President Obama reacts after missing a putt at the Farm Neck Golf Club at Oak Bluffs on Marthas Vineyard, August 11
Congrats on 1st Kreen.
Yay. My president. I hope you and family having a wonderful vacay.
A much deserved vacation as well.
That’s pretty tame, I would do more than that :)
That is just begging for a caption.
“Body English” sounds about right!
Fast and furious today.
I LOVE our President….but I could snap his legs like a pixie stick. I hope he and his family really enjoy their down time. They earned it.
You’d be in big trouble if you tried. :-(
BIG, BIG darn trouble indeed.HZ
“I could snap his legs like a pixie stick.”
Au contraire to the rude TJ Williams above. I see a great pair of legs! And a ton of muscle.

PS….go to your town halls and call them out on their obstruction! Lazy ass haters.
Psst! Some folks have some ‘splain’ to do.
End of last thread:
Edward Snowden is now out of his limbo at Moscow’s airport, presumably ensconced in some Russian dacha, wondering what the next phase of his young life will bring. Having spent 30 years in the intelligence business, I fervently hope the food is lousy, the winter is cold, and the Internet access is awful. But I worry less about what happens to this one man and more about the damage Snowden has done — and could still do — to America’s long-term ability to strike the right balance between privacy and security.
What did Edward Snowden get wrong? Everything!! latimes.com/news/opinion/c… "..hope food is lousy, winter is cold & the Internet access is awful"— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) August 11, 2013
My Spanglish is very poor, but from what I can determine, this 15 year old girl is singing something by Puccini at a talent show.
OMG yardarm!!!! She sent shivers all over my body! ty for this!
To tell the truth, she turned my water works on.
Well Yardarm, you have done the impossible with your find (how do you guys stumble on to these things?). I don’t like opera, I didn’t understand a word she was saying, yet I actually LISTENED TO THAT THREE TIMES!!! Wow!
Yeah, it can it to ya sometimes.
She’s amazing, yardarm. I hope some excellent opera company was listening and auditions her. She has a big future in front of her with the right breaks.
There in lays the question. It ain’t gonna happen though. She’s got the wrong kind of hair! :-(
Yardarm, beautiful young lady and voice. What a beautiful gem you found for us. Wow!! She is superb!!! She is singing an Aria from Puccini’s beautiful Opera Turandot. Some of the words:
Nobody shall sleep
Nobody shall sleep
Even you, o Princeess
in your cold room,
watch the stars that tremble with love and with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me.
My name no one should know
On your mouth I will tell it when the light shines
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine.
Vanish, o night
Set, stars, Set, stars
I shall win, I shall win.
This is to the best of my rememberance. This was one of eight songs that I had to sing for my final’s recital for my voice class in college. I was not good at all in Italian and will never sing it again because the language is so lovely. I refuse to mess it up. So my voice teacher allowed me to sing part of it in English. I am old, but this is one of my favorites to this day . I love to put the recordings by Pavarotti, Carreras, and Bocelli, and Leontyne Price and can listen to them all day.
Yardarm, remember Leontyne Price’s hair? We will sing to the music angel to let the notes rise through that beautiful young lady’s head and glow in her beautiful hair. For the record, my hair was just like this lovely young girl when I was 19 and in a college where ironing the my hair was like a seasonal ticket to my dorm room for lessons. Lots of loving memories even then. It made me even stronger. I graced my grandmother’s hair and my beautiful precious mother’s even through singing Puccini. ((((( Thanks for sharing this beauty, yardarm)))))HZ
HZ thank you. YOU ARE A TREASURE!
You, my precious gift are among that TREASURE for SURE. (((((TY, my dear one))))). Now you have me listening to Price and Bocelli, and of course Pavarotti while reading. You, added an unplanned gem to my space today. TY. TY. HZ
I’m just a small cultural funnel.
And a gracious and beautiful one indeed. HZ
You need to stop it before you blow my image. :-)
Ok. I would not want to do that. You are the best, yardarm. I sent it to Twitterland and a few friends. They know(my few friends) what a brilliant and culturally rich family we have here on TOD. I brag enough all the time. (((((( Love you yardarm)))))))HZ
Wow yardarm. I did not understand one word what that young lady was singing, but it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing.
HZ just supplied the words and it doubles in value for me.
Mr. Yardarm ~ thank you very much for posting this for us. It has turned me into a basket case all afternoon, but I am grateful for that. This young girl, with her immense talent, with her Soul on fire, should be the poster child for all who plead for a chance to give them a future they can work with. What kind of world are we leaving them? Sislena is Malia Obama’s age, and my niece Sophie, and so many bright, full~hearted youngsters whose hopes and dreams must not be compromised by the greed and avarice of the likes of Kochs, Romneys, and the other corporate thieves who would steal the world right out from under our children. I sign off now, we have much work to do. Goodnight everyone, happiest of birthdays again to you DD4O! Hugs all around!! ;)

According to the 2010 American Community Survey (ACS), one in 10 of the nation’s 12.5 million nonelderly veterans reports neither having health insurance coverage nor using Veterans Affairs (VA) health care. While veterans are less likely than the rest of the nonelderly population to be uninsured, there are an estimated 1.3 million uninsured veterans nationwide. Another 0.9 million veterans use VA care, but have no other health insurance coverage. An additional 0.9 million adults and children in veterans’ families are uninsured. Both uninsured veterans and their family members report significantly less access to needed health care than their counterparts with insurance coverage. Compared with insured veterans, uninsured veterans have served more recently, are younger, have lower levels of education, are less likely to be married, and are less connected to the labor force—all of which could contribute to lower access to employer-sponsored coverage. Uninsurance among veterans ranges widely across states—from under 5 percent to over 17 percent—and state variation remains even when adjusting forveterans’ demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. States also vary in levels of uninsurance among veterans’ family members.

I loved this segment on CBS Sunday Morning, once again the best show on the teevee. A NY photographer grabs strangers off the street and puts them close together, touching and intimate for his portraits. And something human happens. The subjects report caring about their unlikely partners after the touching and the photos.
Thank you for this Dotster…

They’ve made fools of both of themselves. Only stupid people still speak in “birther” language – and I don’t normally use the word “stupid”.
Here is why the media is just to much blame for this birther B.S. as folks like Trump. If I was a journalists I wouldn’t waste my time with these birthers. But here Jonathan Karl is giving that fool Trump a platform.
Also remember Anniebella, Johathan Karl is not a true journalist. He is a crap bin who will have nothing worthwhile to save for history but addends to the “Phony, Hate Dustbins.” Now that is all he will be remembered for, trust me.
And then there is a very brilliant, compassionate, caring, hardworking gentleman who was elected as our 44th President of the United States and re-elected in 2012, who will go in the great historians books and books (the fair and great ones) as ‘History To Know and Never Forget for this Country and the World’.. donna, Happy Birthday. I hope continue to enjoy this lovely day of yours.
I am late to the party! I want to wish you a Very Happy Birthday, Donna! You are one special lady! Hope you have had a wonderful day!
Fruitvale Station (originally titled Fruitvale) is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It is Coogler’s first feature-length film and is based on the true story of Oscar Grant, a young man who was killed by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station in Oakland, California.
The film stars Michael B. Jordan as Oscar Grant. Forest Whitaker is one of the film’s producers. Kevin Durand and Chad Michael Murray play the two BART police officers involved in Grant’s death. The names of the officers were changed for the film.
Fruitvale Station debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it won the award for Best First Film. The film was released in theaters July 12, 2013
I plan on going to watch it Saturday. I heard at the end of the movie, there are many people in the audience crying. Its an extremely emotional movie.

ALEC at it again…news from their Chicago hellfest
It’s a sunny day. Well, we’re led to believe it’s sunny. The pollution is so thick that sans your glasses and their auto day/night vision setting, you can’t actually tell if its day or night. Without any EPA regulations to get in our way, air quality is now measured in how many fingers you can make out in front of your face. Telling day from night requires you to carry a watch, illuminated with radioactive waste from one of the unregulated fracking polluted lakes or discarded nuclear waste from processing runoffs. It’s cheap because there’s such an abundance of it. But the good news is it’s free. Just run tap water over the watch, assuming you have a tap to use, and it’ll glow for hundreds of years.

Whoops! Sorry, here’s the one I posted.
Third time trying to repost this reply. I don’t see it so I apologize if it shows up 4 times. My computer is acting up – hasn’t really recovered from the stunning pics of PBO excellence on the previous threads.
Okay, I apologize again. I refreshed and refreshed and refreshed and it didn’t show up. I will slink away into a corner now. A corner stocked with a naughty mat, from which I can still stare at the picture
‘I refreshed and refreshed and refreshed and it didn’t show up’
Maryl, forget the corner. This is exactly the problem I’ve been having lately, and quite regularly too. I refresh, see nothing except my last comment, then when I comment, or not, I later find several other comments whose time indicate I should have been able to see them. I haven’t a clue what it’s all about so often time I’ll wander away or read for a bit then return. It’s very frustrating because it hinders the flow of the conversation. Sometimes I wish I was able to hold WordP by the shoulders, look ‘em in the eyes and say ‘Smarten up!’
A couple of sharp slaps and a hearty “Pull yourself together, man!” should do it! Glad I’m not alone.
Well, I don’t want to be charged, loving my freedom and all that, so I’ll stick with the eye-to-eye dialogue.
Post it all night if ya want! :)
You staying up to drool over watch it all night, JO’B?
Do I have to answer that question?
(And how are you doing this evening, VC?)
I is fine, JO’B, and your question is answer enough.

Not me! I don’t share well, so I stay away from the naughty mat. I don’t want to be tempted to poke anyone in the side with an (accidental) elbow.

Every time I think we’ve seen the lowest of the low in Obama hate, it gets uglier. This is unbelievable—–at the Mo. State Fair—–a bull riding event—–a clown with an Obama mask——announcer asks the crowd “Do you want to see Obama get run down by a bull?” Crowd goes wild, hooting and hollering ——and absolutely shameful “hilarity” ensues. Beyond pitiful and vile.
There are some white people who just believe that a black man should know his place, and these people believe that the White House is not that place. Ad no thanks dotster3 I don’t want to read or see anything about this evil.
in the G.W. Bush years, my question would have been do you think that G.W. Bush should be President? I wouldn’t have said anything about hurting G.W., like a bull running him down.
I know Anniebella….I know how you feel…
In America…it seems to be ok to exhibit racist notions…but when these notions spill lover ….they have tragic consequences….STOP AND FRISK, the Killing of Trayvon Martin….and when they are on the Supreme Court they strike down a tenant of the VRA…and when they are in Congress….they say that they are against Immigration Reform because all the immigrants are drug smugglers…
the only saving grace in all this is The Obama Coalition which was able to come together and re-elect our beloved President….but as PBO says there is so much more work to do….
Sorry Dotster I did not see this before I posted the same story below. Chips can feel free to remove my post. :)

Obama rodeo clown at Missouri state fair draws protest
“I felt like I was at a Klan rally,” Missouri State Fair goer Perry Beam told Raw Story, his outrage stoked by watching a rodeo crowd whoop and holler at a clown wearing an Obama mask while an announcer asked “Who wants to see Obama get trampled?” this weekend.
The fair – which is established by the Missouri Legislature – is formally a nonpartisan event. “This isn’t a Republican state fair,” Beam said. “I want to write the governor and the fair board, because I want my money back. This was shameful.”
A call to a spokesman for the fair has yet to be returned. The rodeo at the fair is produced by the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, which also has not yet returned a call seeking comment……
I bet there was a real ethnic mix in attendance too.
I would suggest emailing the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association and demanding an explanation of this hateful incident.
Disagree with what the President stand for, his policies, but when you start talking about harming him you have gone to dam far.

WATCH: President Obama Can Finally Defend Obamacare
By Jason Sattler
Salon‘s Brian Beulter explains how the president can finally make his signature legislative accomplishment a “weapon:”
Uninsurance rates are about to drop quickly. “Repeal” will soon take on a much different meaning. So it’s no coincidence that just as time begins running out for Obamacare’s opponents, Obama himself is suddenly more comfortable turning the issue on them. The ground is shifting under their feet.
It’s this shift in advantage to the president that’s fueling the effort to defund Obamacare that some Republicans are willing to pursue despite the potential political costs – because telling tens of millions of people you’re taking away their health care is much harder than pretending to repeal something 40 percent of Americans aren’t sure is actually a law.
President Obama has been defending Obamacare ever since he signed it into law.
New post in a bit!

U.S. President Barack Obama and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras have given optimistic outlook over the stalled talks in the divided island of Cyprus.
“There’s a great opportunity as we speak for the decades-long conflict and tensions that exist in Cyprus to be resolved, and I think we’re both encouraged by the messages that have been coming out of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. And we’re going to be I think working very closely together to see if we can make progress on those fronts,” Obama said after meeting with Samaras at the White House on Aug. 8.

Minimum wage for fast food workers in Australia is $16. Dollar for dollar that’s quite a difference!
Yeah, I saw this (different article) in my Twitter timeline today.
Was hoping that 99ts or Bernyp would weigh in on this.
I’ll send Berny a tweet, don’t think 99ts is a Twitter user.
The man interviewed made a good point – US doesn’t research well on issues like these.
Few earn that minimum – most get more. (unless under 21, younger ones are paid less). Different states (like US) have different rates – the $16 is the lowest. Used to be extra pay for weekend and holiday work – I think it is now only sundays & holidays. My daughter worked checkouts when a student – used to get double time – sometimes 2.5 time for holidays – loved it! Most employees also receive 9% employee contribution to retirement fund (superannuation). health care is not covered as that is single payer (1.5% tax levy)
The stores do – however – try all they can to avoid paid breaks – common trick 3 and 4 hour shifts – not good if you have a long distance to travel to work. They also recently lost an attempt to remove the Sunday/holiday extra pay – good.
I’m not having much luck finding the current award rates online. $16 seems low – my daughter was getting $18 an hour about 7-8 years ago.
Happy Birthday to Donna dem! Hope you are having a great day!

Part of our current condition is obviously partisan. Republicans have become the party of “blame the victim.” Whatever your lesser lot in life, it’s completely within your means to correct, according to their logic. Poverty, hunger, homelessness and desperation aren’t violence to the spirit but motivation to the will. If you want more and you work harder, all your problems will disappear. Sink or swim. Pull yourself up. Get over it. Of course, that narrow conservative doctrine denies a broader reality: that there are working poor and chronically unemployed — people who do want and who do work and who do want to work, but who remain stuck on the lowest rungs of the economic ladder.
In this regard, Republicans have all but abandoned the idea of compassionate conservatism and are diving headlong into callous conservatism.
