Well, howdy do to you O’s! How’s it going on this great getting up Chips earth day afternoon? Happy Birthday Chica may you have many more. Thanks for adding so much to my otherwise unexciting life. You really keep it spiced up for me, not to mention all of the political space you provide for the family.

Given the T-shirts the staff wears, they’re serving sharks too – how do sharks taste ?

    • 23 hopefruit2

Like fish. Shark & Bake (a Trinidadian favorite) is just divinely scrumptious!!

    • 24 MightyPamela
      August 13, 2013 at 3:41 pm

I truly hope those are shark protection tee-shirts and shark is NOT on the menu ~ the worldwide shark population is in very serious trouble and if they do not become protected worldwide very soon, life in the oceans will take a true beating. If life in the oceans suffers any more abuse, there is no hope left for life elsewhere. Pretty simple, but sadly true.

      • August 13, 2013 at 3:50 pm

This is indeed is a larger problem than I thought. Even before I saw this list, I stopped eating shark fin soup:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threatened_sharks

        A quote:

“It is estimated that something like 100 million sharks are killed by commercial and recreational fishing every year.[10][11] Sharks are often killed for shark fin soup, which some Asian countries regard as a status symbol. Fishermen capture live sharks, fin them, and dump the finless animal back into the water to die from suffocation or predators.”

  7. August 13, 2013 at 3:34 pm

There are some early signs that Netanyahu is realizing the price his country may one day pay for its settlements, in particular those near Palestinian population centers. He met recently with some of Israel’s leading manufacturers, who expressed their worry that their products may one day be boycotted in Europe, a worry he shares. Kerry, capitalizing on this anxiety, has warned Netanyahu in recent weeks that if the current peace talks bear no fruit, Israel may soon be facing an international delegitimization campaign — in his words — “on steroids.”

    • August 13, 2013 at 3:57 pm

If he’s this worried why did he sign off on new settlements? Can’t have it both ways.

    • 29 Jessica
      August 13, 2013 at 3:58 pm

I wonder if PBO is still fustrated that he had to put off John Kerry being Secy of State 1st term to please the Clinton coalition. We could have had a lot more progress in the middle east by now.

      • August 13, 2013 at 4:05 pm

For a while it looked like John Kerry got more headway in this issue than Hillary. Now I’m skeptical. Perhaps this was just optics …

But I keep an open mind. Perhaps Bibi is walking into an open trap.

I normally am not particularly fond of the politics of the European Union (even while I *can* vote there), but I think their move on blocking trade with settlement products is *the right move at the right time*. It’s not earth-shaking, but provokes the right response – showing that it matters.

That writer is a big Clinton fan. He doesn’t care for Kerry or Hagel. IDT he likes PBO either. He is viewed with a grain of salt. He and Andrea Greenspan try to make everyting a competition within the foreign policy/national security team. He doesn’t want our SOS and FP to not succeed. Anything to prop up the predecessors.

That said, IDK where this is going, but hope for the best.

“Several months ago, the communications office at the White House asked me to join Instagram as another way to show my unique, inside view of the Presidency,” Souza told TODAY.com via email. “But I waited until now because I wanted to first become comfortable with using my iPhone in a creative way.”….

“Bo is a great subject because, well, he’s Bo. Everyone loves Bo,” Souza said of the first dog. “He is challenging as a subject, mostly because of his black hair. So you really need to have optimal lighting and the right background to make pictures of him work.”…..

Besides their professional relationship, Bo and Souza share something else in common: They’re both of Portuguese descent. And while Bo may be a presidential pup, that doesn’t stop him from having a little fun in some of the White House’s most prestigious rooms. Plus, he gets something from Souza in exchange for time in front of the lens…..

Now if someone could get him equal length socks :-)

    • August 13, 2013 at 4:05 pm

      LOL.

How cute is this: “He is challenging as a subject, mostly because of his black hair.” (hair, not fur)

Pete and Bo have something special, I think. Probably what makes Bo the ham that he is (associates getting photographed with Pete Souza).

      • 40 carolyn
        August 13, 2013 at 5:08 pm

Pete Souza is smart to distinguish that Bo, as a Portuguese water dog has hair, not fur. Poodles are the same. That is why they do not shed, like dogs who have fur, and what makes them good for people with allergies. If you have a poodle, you have to accept that regular grooming is part of the necessary care. I imagine it is the same for Bo.
I too love Bo’s uneven socks. They show his uniqueness and individuality.
Our poodle was taken to a kill shelter by her breeder, because she did not meet standards…..she has a white blaze on her chest, her tail is too long, she is not a miniature and not a standard in size. She was rescued by a wonderful woman who runs a rescue shelter in Dodge City, KS. I saw her on the internet, and she did not look like any well trimmed poodle you’ve ever seen! Her hair was at least six inches long, sticking out in all directions, but her description and her eyes in her photo said “Please come get me.” We did, and that was a totally blessed day that we got her. We took her to our vet and groomer the next day, and when she walked out, she knew she was beautiful, and a proud poodle! She brightens our lives, and shares it with us so that we are very wealthy to have her. I have a feeling the Obamas feel the same way about Bo!

Beautiful Carolyn. Thanks for sharing. I love our First Dog. He seems to still have fun, but seems to know that he is so special and he seems to have a sense of POB’s job as something very special. I just feel(IMO) that Bo feels a very close respect for the office of the Presidency. I have never seen a First Dog with so much respect for his President. Just me.HZ

I don’t think those hopes are realistic. The best Weiner can hope for is that his raised profile will bring him more consultancy jobs and fees. Although who would want this nutty guy around for any reason I am sure I cannot guess.

        August 13, 2013 at 4:23 pm

I watched the clip of him in that interview. It was painful. All politicians are in it for the power, but some actually take the job they are running for seriously. Anthony Weiner has absolutely no interest in running the city of New York. He has zero interest or experience in administration or management; and it is obvious from his bombastic record and this cringe-worthy interview that he has absolutely no skills at bringing parties together to solve the problems of a complex city. Much less any interest in keeping it running efficiently and effectively.

I hope he implodes and tries to find a real job.

look at that. the clinton family disgusts me now attached to this slimball. if hillary does run, the jokes will be never ending now that weiner would be attached to the campaign, and of course already her sexual predator husband. for years it has seemed to me that the clintons keep forcing themselves on the democratic party specifically to keep it divided and down, and if she runs again, then i’ll know that is their role for a fact. she cannot win a national election and just look at how divisive she and her supporters are already. all the rehabilitation the obamas have done for the party will go out the window if hillary selfishly tries to run yet again.

“According to Stokes’ family, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston reversed course this afternoon and has agreed to add the 15-year-old to its donor list. The decision comes days after the hospital informed Stokes’ family that he would not be a good candidate for a new heart, because he had a “history of non-compliance.”
“We met with hospital officials about 30 minutes ago. After reviewing the situation, they said Anthony would be placed on the list for a heart transplant and that he would be first in line, due to his weakened heart condition, said family spokesman Mark Bell.

      >>>>>> Bell said the hospital did not offer a reason as to why they changed their mind. <<<<<< :-D :-D :-D

The hospital is planning to make a statement later this afternoon.
Anthony suffers from dilated cardiomyopathy, in which the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, fails to pump enough blood. The condition is generally treated with medications or devices such as pacemakers before a transplant is considered. Stokes’ mother, Melencia Hamilton, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday that without a new heart, her son was would likely die within six to nine months."

This is a GREAT article on the stuff we’ve been saying at TOD for the longest while – that the loudest media representatives for so-called progressive agenda are former staunch Republicans (and the author actually calls them out by NAME…Cenk, Ariana, Kos, GG, etc)!!!

HEADLINE: Why Do We Allow So Many Ex-GOP to be “Authorities” on “Real Progressives”

// In am just as liberal as anyone out there who claims to speak for the progressive cause, and I have been for pretty much my entire life. So, it really pisses me off when someone comes along and insinuates or says that I’m not a “real” progressive, because I don’t think exactly the way they do. Being liberal or progressive is about being tolerant, and about understanding that not everyone sees every issue the same way. There are a lot of moderates out there who are actually progressive, but they don’t know it, in part because some of the loudest elements of the liberal media scream at the top of their lungs, telling us all what we should believe on every issue. Because they don’t believe exactly that, they figure they’re not very progressive. The problem with this is, they may hate the right wing, but they also come to hate us, even though they probably agree with us on most things.

What that means is, they’re more likely to stay home, which is virtually a vote in favor of the GOP. How can anyone call themselves a progressive, and claim that voter suppression is a major problem, at the same time they’re discouraging people from voting against the right wing? It makes no sense.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve been looking at some of the loudest and most influential voices on the left, and I’ve detected a pattern. Let’s see if you can tell what it is. // (READ MORE….)

    http://pleasecutthecrap.com/why-are-so-many-real-progressives-former-republicans/

    • August 13, 2013 at 4:50 pm

Brilliant stuff Hopefruit, I’m constantly intrigued by the number of ‘former’ GOPers who now, supposedly, are leading progressives. As I always say, I completely understand how people can change their politics as they get older, but some of these ‘transformations’ – from extreme RWers to progs – are, well, pretty hard to believe. Of course, my beloved Cenk is the greatest fairytale of all.

Will include link in next post, thanks a million HF!

    hey TOD Team,

Many of you spent last night advocating for the 15 year heart transplant patient Mr. Anthony Stokes.

We are very happy to hear that the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston has reversed its decision and will now place him on the list.

Yes, it angers many of us that this crazy unfair decision had to be made in the first place.

However, this is the point at which we (as people who appreciate the forgiving nature of PBO) show that we recognize and appreciate the hospital for listening to the advocacy of so many and reversing its decision.

Please take a few minutes and send a word of appreciation to those who remembered that First do no harm is the oath they chose to uphold.

I hope I am not asking too much of us to send a note of appreciation to @childrensatl

This country is getting deeper and deeper into the woods when compared to other places.

I’m not going to praise this hospital for doing what they were supposed to do in the first place. I hope they lose their public funding, in their eyes another black youth isn’t worthy of help. Malcolm X was right, if someone sticks a knife in your back six inches, you don’t clap just because they pull it out three inches.

I understand your opinion on this matter – was my first reaction.

change happens slowly in the minds and hearts of some – positive reinforcement may sometimes be needed to help change along

Agree Linda——positive reinforcement is most likely to continue to bring positive results. You get more bees with honey, as they say.

‘voter fraud is “rampant and undetected”‘

That’s “True Believers” for you. As Eric Hoffa said, they (true believers) are “absolutely certain about things they do not know.” They know for sure that “voter fraud is “rampant,” even though they have not been able to detect it.

Thanks for that excellent tweet, Tally!

I knew North Carolina was on it’s way down when it elected that hearfless Pat McCory, dam racists jackass.

I dont think we have paid nearly enough attention to the election process that got these crazy TGOP governors into office. I think there is a very good chance the ballots were tampered/mis-counted, etc.

It’s plainly obvious what the teabag Republicans mean when they say they want their country back. The country they want back is the Jim Crow era country when “white supremacy” reigned supreme. Just like during the Jim crow era, the right wing majority on the U.S. Supreme Court has given a green light to those who want to restore “white supremacy.” In other words, democracy must not be allowed to stand in the way of “white supremacy.” Lets hope that the coalition that made up the majority of Americans that elected, and then re-elected, President Obama, will stand firm by resisting this push by the teabag Republicans, aided by five men on the U.S. Supreme Court, to go backwards.

All we need to do is vote. The only reason we’re in this horror show is because Republicans voted for Republicans no matter what – all the time, in sufficient numbers. It is our side that ceded this country to a small sliver of crazies because we let perfection be the enemy of the good.

I hope and pray that we’ve finally learned that lesson. As of 2010, we had not. We MUST vote. We have always been the majority, but our side has chosen to cede their power at the polls to the most regressive party in American history.
