Great stuff, as always, UT!! I can not get enough of pictures of our POTUS and FLOTUS.

Hey TODers, please send me positive, relaxing vibes. I am separating from my husband and heading back to my home state. I am very fortunate to have a lot of support from family and friends, but that doesn’t make the separation any easier. I will also have to leave my dog behind, and that makes me very sad, but it’s for her good.
Looking back on everything in my life for the past few years, I will in fact have come full circle.
Now is the time for me to make a flying leap into the next chapter in my life.
Stressed and nervous, but excited knowing the hard part will be over soon.
I don’t feel this is the end, but the start of a beautiful new beginning.
    Wish me luck!

I’m just thinking of all the politicians and media people and pundits who voted to go to war in Iraq – who believe the spin and GWB – and then about 6 years later realized they had been duped.

Same thing is going to happen with GG & Snodwend – it will just take much less than 6 years.

oh boy! just got a pop-up ad/poll at another site asking if i’d support senator elizabeth warren running in 2016. of course vote for her to run. didnt check through the group and who is paying for that, so i suppose it could some koch brother-type group trying to divide and conquer democrats. internet ads are pretty cheap by koch brother standards. sure was good to vote for her and i hope she runs! first thing is first though, we need to keep the senate and win the House back next year. FORWARD!!!!!

    • August 16, 2013 at 8:04 am

Really, all this talk about 2016 – (especially for the DEMS) is being pushed by GOP operatives. It’s being used to distract from the current issues – PBO’s current and very important agenda, and most importantly to help the GOP in the 2014 midterms by creating division among Democrats early on.

      • August 16, 2013 at 8:39 am

Yep…it appears the strategy is to play up the 2016 election — especially who might run — in hopes of making the 2014 election seem insignificant. They have not taken into consideration the issues that are HERE and NOW. The issues that are impacting people’s lives NOW — the issues that are important to people NOW — are what will raise the interest in the 2014 elections.

Plus, I think a lot of people have learned a lesson from 2010 as to how those seemingly insignificant elections can greatly affect our lives.

GM, TOD. There’s no reason y’all should know about this since it is purely local. However, it shouldn’t be, at least for us here at TOD. Who knew that was just a rambunctious kid? Never mind about sentencing him just give him credit time served and let him go with a stern warning.

Right now, it’s all about him not getting a harsh sentence, so they are pulling out all the stops. Luckily he’s white, so the “insanity” defense will probably work to his benefit.

I hope pundiots like Chris Hayes (who LOVES to compare these nitwits with Black civil rights heroes) notes the white privilege that the Snowdens, Mannings and Assanges are all enjoying, while likening themselves to oppressed civil rights icons.

Yes, as I’ve said on Twitter and elsewhere, all surveillance methods entail a degree of risk – they are subjected to error and abuse, and should be open to constant review.

But if someone is going to raise a stink about NSA, then they had better be prepared to explain why the sudden, intense focus and outrage about NSA to the exclusion of other surveillance methods like Stop & Frisk – which have been shown to have far more incidents of violation and abuse than the NSA ever could.

    Morning all.

    Interesting read:

    http://thedailybanter.com/2013/08/david-gregory-isnt-the-only-thing-at-nbc-news-thats-screwed/

…… ” The thing to keep in mind about Gregory, though, is that while nothing is guaranteed in television news, there’s little reason to believe he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon, despite MTP‘s flailing ratings. The reason for this is obvious: It’s tough to call somebody out for smelling lousy when you’re all sitting in the middle of a garbage dump. NBC News is such a disaster right now from top to bottom — with numbers down across the board, from Today to Nightly to MSNBC — that barring a complete clean-slate wipe, it’s tough to imagine any serious action being taken when it comes to on-air personnel. “

    • August 16, 2013 at 9:53 am

It has been months and months since I watched NBC Nightly News. Watch very little of MSNBC anymore. Occasionally I check out Rachel (always on the treadmill then) but depending on what she’s doing/saying, I may stay with her and I may swtich in 5 seconds. EX. Last night she did a fantastic, researched segment on the NC voting law. When she does things like that, I will watch. As soon as she finished that segment and teased the next segment, I switched to HGTV. :) VERY seldom watch Martin or Hardball; occasionally see Rev. Al. It’s also been months and months since I watched Today. Always switch to a local morning show. Obviously, I’m not the only one or the ratings wouldn’t be so bad.

HAHAHAHA…according to Huffington Post, Snowden now just threw his own father and his legal team under the bus, claiming that they are misrepresenting him when they bad mouth GG and Wikileaks….

// NEW YORK –- National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden wants to set the record straight after individuals associated with his father have, in his words, “misled” journalists into “printing false claims about my situation.”

In an emailed statement to The Huffington Post, Snowden said that neither his father Lon Snowden, his father’s lawyer Bruce Fein, nor Fein’s wife and spokeswoman Mattie Fein “represent me in any way.” “None of them have been or are involved in my current situation, and this will not change in the future,” Snowden said of his father and the Feins. “I ask journalists to understand that they do not possess any special knowledge regarding my situation or future plans, and not to exploit the tragic vacuum of my father’s emotional compromise for the sake of tabloid news.” //

” tragic vacuum of my father’s emotional compromise for the sake of tabloid news”? What does this even mean? I think Snowden’s lawyer nailed it with narcissism.

    From Greg Sargent this morning:

    * DEMS GOING ON OFFENSE ON OBAMACARE: The White House-allied Americans United for Change plans a big health care offensive in the next two weeks. It says it will challenge conservative anti-Obamacare groups by aggressively touting the law’s benefits at staged events, attacking the right and GOP for wanting to return us to a pre-reform insurance industry free-for-all.
