The Rev. Bobby Turner of Columbus, Ohio, places his hand on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
yes we can!!!!
Congrats 4more on #1
YES WE CAN keep moving this country #FORWARD
Hey 4more congrats
Super, super day!
August 24, 2013 is the start of days to be remembered. HISTORICAL!
And to top it off, we have some exceptional Blog Tyrants (as AMK would say) in Chips, UT and LP who not only portrayed the day for us as we could not be there, but did it with such love, patience and dedication.
Today was so peaceful and as Hopefruit mentioned couple treads back that this was so much the opposite of what we would have seen at a TeaParty rally. There would be signs – misspelled, angry, effigy, guns/weapons and hate. Typical of that group of people.
Thanks for this place of calm and knowledge.
Really enjoyed the day.
Hard to look at these images and not be reduced to tears. Thanks UT and Chips for allowing TOD regulars and lurkers alike to share in this historic event
Of course, LP as well!!
Congratulations, 4morefor44. Yes indeed we can and will!
That picture at the memorial … takes my breath away.
I cannot wait to walk on that hallowed ground next week.
I know that you will take us along with you. I am so thankful for all those here who are sharing their experiences with all of us.
I’ll do my best.

Oh, I like his reference to #TaleofTwoCities – very telling. If he’s elected Mayor, I certainly hope he gets to work on that issue (and so many others) right away.
Just for fun
And just for fun, a moment about Bo!
Adorable. All of them.
Well, then, look here – in honor of how our President and First Lady still look at each other! (What a gorgeous couple.)
Aw, don’t get me dancing. I’ve gotta go to bed so I can get up early and work!
One last dance tonight!
Okay, just a little one…
Oh, my goodness. I was listening to (and being reminded of) some of his music just the other day! What a unique voice. Oh, and, I looked up Doris Troy’s bio (there were so many singers my generation was exposed to, it’s hard to keep track) and she was discovered by none other than James Brown, while she was an usherette at the Apollo.
i’ve been having thoughts similar to bobfr’s comment on the last post.
“America has never seen what it will experience in the next 14 months and the subsequent 26 months. Our President, Our AG, the entire Cabinet and many many others are going to put it all on the line. #KOCHSTERS (aka GOP), #Teabaggers, various libertarian cults, etc., have no idea what is headed their way and they have absolutely no capacity to contend because, at their core, they are chicken shits.
#TrustBarack And get ready to rumble ….”
one of the things i’ve learned watching president obama operate is the importance of proper timing. he doesn;t let “the news” or republicans bait him into responding to their fabricated “issues” of each day. that comeback he had to ed henry about not responding to things until he understands what he’s talking about was a perfect example.
he doesn’t activate his organizer followers until it makes sense as part of a larger strategy. as any true community organizer would know, people do indeed get burned out, and it’s important to let people regroup and recharge in their lives after a big campaign, and then activate them again once they’ve had time to recover and it leads up to an important vote. i too have noticed subtle changes in his recent talks that signal he’s about to the release the hounds again on the america-hating republicans and media owners and their lies.
2010 was disappointing, but he did this then too and i feel the results would’ve been much worse had he not done what he did leading up to the 2010 midterms, namely losing the senate too. plus, he’s learned a lot since then and the dynamics have changed considerably. o.f.a. is much stronger and established this time, so i can’t wait to get the marching orders from our commander-in-chief!! we must win big in 2014!!!
Excellent commentary! I am very optimistic 44more, and I agree with Bob’s comment as well.
ooo I’ll have to go check out his whole comment – thanks 4more!
“… plus, he’s learned a lot since then and the dynamics have changed considerably. o.f.a. is much stronger and established this time, so i can’t wait to get the marching orders from our commander-in-chief!! we must win big in 2014!!!”
Agree fully, 4more, with your assessment. As I and others have noted, here and elsewhere, when Barack Obama was elected President, the process of ‘reconstruction’ post Civil War truly began. His re-election affirmed that that ‘reconstruction’ was gaining momentum.
Those who have benefited mightily (American plutocrats – aka fascists) from the failure of ‘reconstruction’ and the perpetuation of an impoverished, under class society in America finally recognized they had an adversary who had the skills to defeat them – community organizer skills of the highest order.
And now, President Obama is their worst nightmare come true. A President with no further personal political aspirations or need of more $$ with 3+ years of the power of the Executive Office and an ever expanding ‘base’ of Americans who trust and support him. And, he has the OFA network finely tuned to intense, focused activism.
We are going to see something never before experienced in American politics, of that I have no doubt.
Yes We Can
nice bob! and so true!
OK Gotta sleep
this web site is so important.

That image actually was taken Aug. 20, but, for me, it epitomizes how our spirits all soared today, with Dr. King looking on “from the mountaintop.”
Beautifully put, jac.

That just wasn’t enough, was it? Here’s the full speech:

Good Night, D-ette! Seems like you and I are tag team partners tonight. Sweet dreams. I’ll hang around for a bit, maybe someone else will tag me out soon as I am somewhat sleepy..
Just in case anybody hasn’t cried enough today (I love this version, I just happened to find):
Late Night Nostalgia …
And I just realized the voice is that of Moms Mabley – an old time comedienne, who used to be on some of the old TV shows in the ’60s (I remember watching), but had been around for decades. From the link: “In 1969, she became the oldest person in history to have a hit song in the Top 40″ – this song, sung later by Dion and others.
This shows that ya don’t have to be a young Hollywood starlet type to be able to belt out some meaningful lyrics:
Stick a fork in me;I’m done! Ciao.
Wait! Don’t everyone go to sleep at once…..
I just want to share one of the most important days of my life with my TOD family.
I must admit I have not had a chance to catch up with all the posts and I will do that while I spend a week of rest and relaxation in Costa Rica starting this Monday.
This week I was in the lurking mode because we celebrated Holy Convocation at my place of worship. And it was truly what my mind, body and spirit needed to prepare me for today. A whole week of fasting and praying kept me in a calm safe place as I reflected on what it must have been 50 years ago to plan, coordinate and carry out such a huge task without all of the technology, comfort and yes……air conditioning.
While fasting and praying, I committed to consecrate myself and that meant no television, computers and things my flesh craves. So I could not commit to posting today’s events of the March on Washington. We did make a commitment in my community to take children along with us on this historical occasion. They ranged from the ages of 5 years-old to13 years-old.
I cried the whole day. So many people. So many hopes and dreams coming together for so many different purposes. So many lives being touched by one man’s dream. The tears started around 3:00 am this morning when I woke early to prepare food for whomever need on the bus ride to Washington. I thought about the regular people who sacrificed everything they had to make that trip 50 years ago and how much it meant to them to just be there. The celebrities and “important people” played an important role, also. But it was the poor, disadvantaged, humble people that tugged on my heart this morning. After the Mach was over, they had to go back to segregated hate-filled hearts and towns who thought more of their pets lives than theirs.
Sharing this day with the children gave me hope and energy that I have not felt as an adult in a long while.
Yes, POB Inaugurations are very high on the list. But today was different.
It was sadness, yet joy. Pain, yet healing. Peace, yet inside turmoil. Anger, yet anticipation.
As I witnessed the tiny feets of the children marching, I was reminded by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “How long?” “Not long.”
How long do we have to keep marching for basic human rights? Why is the color of these children’s skin and the content of their character still not evident? Why did Trayvon’s parents have to suffer such a loss along with Emmitt Till’s parents?
But seeing the pride and posing for pictures at the Monument of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the children brought it all in perspective for me.
Sitting in a bus that was a replica of what Mrs. Rosa Parks had to endure with the children and being reminded of the “Colored” “White” signs designations. I realized that these children must be told and showed, teached and preached about what happened.
And vow never to let this happen again.
It was ugly. It was cruel. It was inhuman.
And, yes, some may say, tell them to vote…..now, even that is a threat.
I was so grateful and proud of the regular people who made that march 50 years ago.
After returning home, feet and legs swollen and pain in places that I have never felt before, I have to think they were so proud of themselves for doing the right thing and not even knowing or caring that they were making history.
If I was a republican, I would search may soul and change my way of thinking because after all of the people who marched beside each other today genuine love and respect for each other regardless of what you looked like, smelled like, who you wanted to be like, it is evident…….
Change is here. And it is marvelous in our sight!
Sweet sleep everyone!
Thank you for all the wonderful posts. Tomorrow will be a blissful day of relaxing and catching up.
whoa thanks LDS what a profound experience for you – thx for writing about it
Thank you LDS for sharing. You moved me to more tears. (((((( TY so much)))))))HZ
Dad had to have outpatient surgery today. He’s home and doing well. Anyway,we all spent the day with him. Had to watch the day’s events on TV. Seems like every TV at the hospital (Johns Hopkins) was tuned to MSNBC. I, of course, also followed events on TOD. Thank you for the wonderful photos and updates. Hopefully I’ll be there on Wednesday.
LOVED seeing Donna with our great gov too!!! What a treat!
Hope all will be well for your father, Claire.
You are always so kind Bob! Thank you!
Let’s be sure to hurt these folk’s cash flow ….

THANK YOU and BLESS YOU!
I am reminded again of how grateful we all are to be here in this beautiful space that our loving Chips has created. This is such an amazing place, TOD family.
My thoughts are so full of richness in what, why, and how Chips keep the doors open because I see daily how she presents this TOD gift wrapped in order, love, hope, compassion, intellectual inspiration, and total respect for our President. I feel that is one of the most important reasons why we love it here, Respect for President Barack H. Obama. That is what I remember when I first came found this wonderful place. Chips stated how this is to be a place for support for President Obama and a place where positive things are the focus of this space. Well, thank you, Chips for keeping this beautiful space true to who you are. You are the best, Chips.
Good night my TOD family. Thank you to UT, LP and Bobfr, Dudette, Yardarm DF, and all who keep us thinking, enjoying great music, all of the gifted writers, the great and factual information concerning our President and his Administration. TY. ((())))
Let us continue to Celebrate
Let us continue to Cooperate
Let us continue to Liberate
Let us continue to Concentrate
Let us continue to Communicate
The message for our great and compassionate President.
Good Night Chips and my TOD family. May we be well rested to rise tomorrow to give thanks for our blessings that we so enjoyed today. We will move FORWARD, Mr. President with you. Thank you for all that you do for all of us, Mr. President.
Rest well, everyone. Nite, nite. Lovingly, HZ..
Off to work! Everyone have a blessed day! I am still unable to comment on all that went on yesterday as I still waver between sadness, hurt for the American people, joy, pride, respect and lots of crying! However I want to thank Chips, ut, LP and all of the TOD family!
The AA community has a lot of support. Just bc you don’t hear that support in the news, usually you hear the opposite. But, this is America and everybody should have rights.
Republicans are fighting for own lives, passing laws that are only good for The T Bagger base!
I remember when I grew up in Boston that they finally desegregated in early 1970s.
We are not going back to segregation and poll taxes, etc!
Count on it!
