Now, I’m running swiftly to keep up. (bringing over from bottom of last thread)

Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family!
I had to come to work today to get some rest. I spent this weekend being the official tour guide for Lady VC and her delightful offspring and let me tell you – the paparazzi was all over us!!! WHEW!

      August 26, 2013 at 1:25 pm

Indeed, I never really **understood** before how truly annoying, crippling AND TIRING the paparazzi can be! Thank you so much GGail for being a stand-firm bodyguard, shielding us from the wind and the cold….and of course the crowd on the beach! It was all much appreciated – unfair too, because you have to work today, but extremely appreciated!

Cold?? ‘Crowd on the Beach’ ~ In the cold!!?? C’mon VC, this is a mature audience you’re pitching to!!

No, really, MP. I was almost tempted to ask a few of the ladies if their navels didn’t feel chilly. When I mentioned the crowd, GGail did say that it wasn’t LA’s idea of crowded since we were actually able to move along the pier, but, what can I say? The fact that I had to shift directions several times to avoid walking into someone means crowded to me. I couldn’t believe school has supposedly already started!

I’m so glad you and GGail had a chance to meet. I saw the photo of the two of you last night at the Pier. I’m glad I can now see you when I read your comments.

The general Republican response: I am absolutely furious Obamacare and it’s forcing America into a socialist/commie system that makes Stalin look like a capitalist. This is the end of this great land as we know it.

By the way does anyone know where I can go to signup? See I have this preexisting condition and my daughter just got out of college and…well you know.

GGail, I didn’t tell you my camera wasn’t working, did I? I forgot. I ran out of film the last time I used it and forgot to pick some up before leaving home. It’s a special type of film too, which I would dare say is not available in U.S. Maybe, next time, when you come to my corner of the world; I’ll make sure I have enough film.

Chips, as I explained to GGail, my camera was under stress so the pictures didn’t quite make it. Take my word for it though – they would have been mah-vel-lous! GG was an awesome and patient tour guide, chauffeur, restaurant guide/critic, conversationist….er, maybe that should be conversation-person. I would highly recommend her for the Chips-Obama Travel team in any or all of the roles mentioned.

Colin Powell Sang ‘Blurred Lines’ on a Stage
    BY MAUREEN O’CONNOR

Along with Katie Holmes, Lenny Kravitz, Ellen DeGeneres, Jamie Foxx, and Pharrell, former secretary of state Colin Powell “jumped onstage” at the Fourth Annual Apollo in the Hamptons benefit this weekend. He “even sang a few lines of Robin Thicke’s summer hit ‘Blurred Lines,'” reports “Page Six.”

Now, we cannot say with certainty whether or not the following picture shows Colin Powell singing the lines, “But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature / Just let me liberate you / Hey, hey, hey

OT-I think it’s high time we use Senator Cruz’s full name, Rafael Edward Cruz and ask him to explain his fathers link to Communist Cuba. How say you all?

I watched him yesterday on C-SPAN campaigning in New Hampshire. Why is he doing campaign events? Is he even eligible to run for President? I thought he was born in Canada. Could someone please help me to understand his true motives besides wanting to repeal and/or defund Obamacare.

      • 44 yardarm756
        August 26, 2013 at 1:04 pm

He was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1970. He’s trying very hard to ignore his roots to Hispanics and his link to Cuba where his father is from.

      • August 26, 2013 at 2:17 pm

His Mom was an American citizen many in law are saying that qualifies him. He is giving up his dual citizenship with Canada. Seems crazy that the Birthers accept Cruz’s right to be President but not PBO’s legitimate right. That only furthers the racist hate argument. What is equally confusing is that most racists hate Hispanics as well, but guess ideology enters in here as they only seem to hate Dem minorities.

        • 46 ericfive
          August 26, 2013 at 3:28 pm

PBO’s mom was an American citizen too, but he was still “required” to prove he was born in the USA. That birther nonsense was always 100% racially motivated. Cruz, like Clarence Thomas are useful pawns used by white supremists to further their agenda. Let either of them start to act on behalf of minorities’ interests and you will see how quickly the Tea Party crowd will turn against them.

I was actually at the same showing of “Memphis” when they saw it in 2010. It was a matinee showing and we got discounted tickets at the TKTS booth, completely oblivious to the fact that there were going to be a special attendees at that show.

The idea that you’re watching the same play at the same time as FLOTUS when you did not know ahead of time is surreal. No one knew before hand that they were going to be there. The applause when they first entered was deafening and I remembered thinking at the time that this is unusual to have applause at the beginning of a play just as the lights dimmed. No sooner than I had completed my thought did I look to my left and a over to the center aisle where I saw a group of people walking down towards the front with some tall men in front of them. Then I saw someone who looked like Malia, and that’s when I realized what was going on….

The atmosphere during the intermission was awe-inspiring and funny at the same time. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE had their camera/cellphones out, standing, waiting for when the First Family returned. Then we got scolded – a stern sounding voice on the PA system ordered us to put away/turn off the cameras/cellphones and sit down!!! Then once everyone was seated and the cellphones were out of sight, the lights were turned off and the group came in just as they had done earlier – with similar applause.

What a wonderful experience! I recall that weekend quite clearly because it was also the very day (or weekend) that Obamacare was passed in the House.

I love this memory. Thanks for sharing. This family tears my emotion in two all the time. Part of me would vote that they be allowed to enter and leave functions without everyone taking pictures, and the other part would be busily trying to use her cell phone, which she doesn’t really know how to use as a camera, to get her own picture.

HuffPo link because original article is behind a paywall. :(

Hayes really is stupider than I thought. He’s so dimwitted that he’ll never be able to view #Snowdenwald objectively.

    • 61 57andfemale
      August 26, 2013 at 1:30 pm

I think you can go pretty far left and keep progressive principles that benefit people. It’s the loony left that Hayes embraces; and the more I hear these guys, I realize that they are completely un-tethered from reality or consequences. It’s a game, an exercise, an intellectual construct. They are as heartless as the tea party when they refuse to accept that their words might have consequences for voters.

Hey, I don’t mind MHP and even Hayes using their rarified salon model once in awhile. I actually have heard some really good discussions. But that cannot and should not be all there is when there are people watching you on TV. The effect of their purity has very negative connotations for those of us living in the real world.

Hey, you can carry on about DRONES! and how bad they are and how every yahoo plotting against the U.S. and the world should have Rights to our Courts, etc. But tell that to a middle class Hispanic family whose young son is in the military, putting his life on the line. He would prefer a precision drone, which in the hands of PBO is focused only on bad guys and minimizing civilian casualties – rather than a battalion of young Americans shooting everything in sight, dropping shock & awe bombs. The notion that these loony far-lefters can’t see an advantage to the new type of warfare for everyone, including all those young kids, is disgusting.

      • 62 hopefruit2
        August 26, 2013 at 1:47 pm

You’re right 57, what we dub the “loony left” are actually self-titled Libertarian (mostly former Republicans) who have co-opted “left” causes as a way of making money. Hayes did not go “too far left” he embraced the Libertarian wing of the Republican party – it’s time to tell it like it is.

Rand Paul and Ron Paul are Republicans, they are not Democrats or 3rd party candidates. Julianne Assange is a RW propagandist, and has identified Rand & Ron Paul as his leaders of choice. And their philosophy is the one that Hayes and his sidekick Maddow endorse much of the time. And THAT is why his ratings tanked. Obama supporters do not need RW Libertarian crap shoved down their throats under the guise of “liberal left”

Howdy doody all you O’s!!! What a great getting up day again for all l us TODsters!!! I decided to make an impromptu trip to see #1 and the grandkids, so I hopped this teeny weeny tiny plane to Williston No Dak. No Dakota is a red state, but has a Dem senator. From the folks I’ve met so far, they aren’t that political.

However, I did go to a national fishery that had this huge sign that said unless there was more federal funding, they will close on Oct 1. Well, all the folks there were a buzzing and a gnashing. They were in total shock, asking what could be done, and where were the funds. That was my clue to jump in so I chimed up and mentioned the sequester. Actually, only a handful of people even knew what I was talking about.

After explaining, starting with the ‘pubs defunding stuff, a few just walked away, but most stood there while I gave them the low down. I told them to write, call, and email their reps and demand that they end the sequester and fund their national treasure. Evidently, this is a spot that people have taken their kids for generations. It’s a park with streams and trout, and all that outdoorsy stuff. The park person stood and shook his head in agreement and by the time they disbanded, he had gone back into the cabin to get the names and numbers of organizations and government people who can help.

Then off to Mt. Rushmore I went to see those stone faced presidents carved into the side of a mountain. As far as I can tell, there will be no defunding that park. Afterall, how can they explain ol’ George’s nose falling off? Not to mention, I already picked out the spot for PBO’s head. It’s right next to Abe’s.

Not sure if this has been posted yet – it’s the President’s proclamation for the annual Women’s Equality Day 2013 commemoration:

“As we reflect with pride on decades of progress toward gender equality, we must also resolve to make progress in our time. Today, we honor the pioneers of women’s equality by doing our part to realize that great American dream — the dream of a Nation where all things are possible for all people.”
