Hello TODers, Great Afternoon. Hi Chips ;)
Hello Lady Chips. Thanks for all you do. I see that we are approaching another milestone soon at TOD ;) 21M………The TOD Village is getting it down. Thank You so much.
Ha, I’ll be 21 again Nena!!!! Thank you very much!
Oh Jeez there will be no living with you, will there?
No there won’t 57 – another day long party when it happens!!!
But how would we live without her?? Just askin ‘ ..;)
Hmm? :) 21 yet again? I love it.
Here’s a Great Shot from Rafa Nadal Parera :)
Enjoy TODers ;)
Now I can go get all caught up…..see you all later.
The Pictures above says a lot. Just like the VMA and their awards? Just like the News Media……they can’t help themselves……seriously?
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
Chipsticks, from the previous thread, you wrote “and she didn’t even notice” – yea, that’s the kicker – she didn’t notice her omission of any women of color who are on twitter.
Again, I thank you for picking up the battle cry – you Go girl :D
The only thing is GGail, it struck me that I don’t actually know the color of some of my buddies from here, so left them off my #SmartBlackWomenOfTwitter list :???: So now I fear they’ll think I don’t think they’re smart!!!!! Why did I start my list?!
Well, hell, many of us don’t really know your color either – so just list all of us – hahahahaha!!!!!
I’m cheesy colored, GGail!!!
I know that!
With lovely green hair
I sound like the Irish flag:
Great goodness! I refreshed and those colors burst onto my screen – YOWZA!
:D :D :D :D :D
I’m purple with baby blue hair!
Okay…… that sounds lovely Layla!!!
Hahahaha – Chips. You can be so delicate sometimes.
What!!!! you don’t like my color!!!! lol
What? No ‘gurple’? Bigots……
“Soledad O’ Brien Spotlights Education in Next ‘Black of America’ Documentary”
The award-winning journalist is hoping to conjure up some serious debate and action with her newest Black in America project titled “Great Expectations”.
The documentary will examine the disparities that currently exist within America’s public education system by spotlighting a group of young black boys in a low-income area of Minneapolis. She also speaks with several educational experts about the controversy surrounding the charter school system and what can be done to close the achievement gap within the African-American community.
The documentary is set to air on CNN Friday, August 30th. This will be her sixth installment in the Black in America series.
She’s gonna speak tomorrow too. I think.
@KamalaHarris … so many more. Appalling.
Did not see FLOTUS ether.
Or Susan Rice or Oprah or a gazillion others.
Dr. Susan Rice, Dr. Condi Rice? Dr. Malveaux? Ms Winfrey? Ms Mary Frances Berry? Dr. Fulani? Etc, etc.
She needs to join the SmartBlackWomenofTwitter!!!
O/T (and I’ll get back to this topic, later), but I’m reminiscing a little about “the ’60s” this week, because of the events surrounding the March on Washington, and was looking for a particular quote. Found this little ol’ remark from Tip O’Neill about JFK, which reminded me of how some people underestimated the young Barack Obama, that other skinny kid with the big ears and funny name!
At First Glance The War Hero Seemed Little More Than A Runt
“The first time I met Jack Kennedy, I couldn’t believe this skinny, pasty-looking kid was a candidate for anything. It was just before St. Patrick`s Day in 1946. When I first saw him, he was talking with Chick Artesani and Peter Cloherty, two friends of mine from the legislature.
“It was Chick who introduced us: ‘Tip, I`d like you to meet the next congressman from your district.’ I was sure he was joking. Jack Kennedy didn`t seem vigorous enough to be campaigning for Congress. He was 28 but looked younger, and he still hadn`t fully recovered from his war injuries. He also looked as if he had come down with malaria. Certainly he was nothing like the hearty and extroverted types who dominated public life in Boston.”
Elizabeth Warren should voluntarily give up her spot to a black woman in order to make a statement! Now that might have an impact on this absolutely horrible BS!
Great idea. Each of these women should voluntarily give up her spot, and nominate someone to replace her. Who would want to be associated with this list, now, in any event?
Does it make me twit that I can recognize only one woman in that ‘list’? elizabeth warren.
And who the fuck is ann charles and why should we care about her and her list?
I do not give a fuck about Ann Charles but I do give many fucks about what she has just done!
Pushback’s a good thing Amk, might just make people like her think twice next time around. Ask Paula Deen.
Wow! How insulting. It amazes me that they didn’t see a thing wrong with that picture. Sigh!!!!!!!!
Only PBO has to concern himself with diversity.
Just Like CNN did when they did a promotional ad on the faces of CNN. Same thing. It never fails.
#SmartBlackWomenOfTwitter @TheObamaDiary @FLOTUS @vj44 @TheReidReport for starters Ms @annmcharles— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 27, 2013
Thank you for the shout-out on Twitter Chiparoo. I logged on Twitter and saw you and others flooding my mentions with the #SmartBlackWomenOfTwitter hashtag. You all are the best.
It’s 2013 and Ann M. Charles wants everyone to believe that she couldn’t find one single smart Black woman on Twitter to add to her ’25 Smartest Women on Twitter’ list? Not even First Lady Michelle Obama? My timeline is full of smart Black women who inform, make me think and laugh everyday. They can appropriate our culture, our food, our music, our style, our words, our ideas, our work, and our history but they can’t credit us with anything. Disgusting.
Don’t ever mess with Twitter. They were finally shamed into responding.
Thanks for all the feedback on yesterday's Twitter list. We agree with you. You're right. Full post coming from us very soon.— Fast Company (@FastCompany) August 27, 2013
@FastCompany Well, perhaps you've learned the Paula Deen lesson … Don't mess with the #SmartBlackWomenOfTwitter ….— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 27, 2013
Edited as to be more inclusive …
@FastCompany Perhaps you've learned the Paula Deen lesson. Don't mess with the #SmartBlackWomenOfTwitter & their white/hispanic/etc friends— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 27, 2013
That @FastCompany tweet is still bullshit. I’m sick of all this bullshit. And they can STILL kiss my white ass! Ha! #NoColorWheelInAmerica
Love you J’OB!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you back, Baby O’Donna. And you’re on MY list!
(Never got to kid you about that photo with your honey Gov. O’Malley. You sure hang with the right people … phone call with PBO, walk in the sunshine with Gov. O’M … Ha! I’d like to see your speed dial sometime.)
Ha! there are some things that a girl just has to keep to herself!!! ;)
I’m with ya on that! :)
Thank you Chips, Gail, Jacqueline. I’m as white as you can get and when I see stuff like that it infuriates me.
Me, too, Bob, and I feel like exploding. It’s 20freakin13.
You’re simply the best Bob!!!
Thank you Donna!! :)
BTW, Donna, will be thinking of you and your family, tomorrow. Please be my family’s proxy at the celebration; so wish we could have been in DC for it.
Bob, you can count on me having all of my TOD family there tomorrow in spirit. I’l try and get as many pics as possible to you all as well.
Thank you Bobfr, for joining forces with the brigade.
Good job, Chipsticks and UT for sounding the alarm!
@FastCompany Don't bother. Your lists are totally inconsequential now. I'll stick with multi-cultured Slow Company. #NoColorWheelInAmerica— (@JOBoomr) August 27, 2013
JOB, you’re on fire today. Bravo!!!
Shame on the idiots. Feedback? Feedback?
Wow…..the saw it as they published and tweeted the list. Feedback my butt.
UT, I have no idea what Fast Company is or how it’s associated with Ann Charles, but they should not have had this discrepancy pointed out to them. It should have been immediately obvious to anyone who looked at it. I am proud to say that, except for Elizabeth Warren, I don’t follow any of these women.
@RollinOnARiver @TheObamaDiary I'll point out that @annmcharles @ariannahuff can kiss my white ass! Start a new list! #NoColorWheelInAmerica— (@JOBoomr) August 27, 2013
And that ladies and gentlemen is the BOOM in jacquelineoboomer!!!!!
Ha! So I can go drink my lunch, now? (Not that I ever do, but I think I might today!) Thanks, Layla.
JO’B – you tell ‘em!
Wow Chipsticks!!! TOD Twitterers don’t play.! You get results!!! Kudos to the TOD Twitter Brigade! :-D
Those who Care, participate. Brilliant, TOD Brigade………You all Rock :!:
Premieres on PBS Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Check your local listings.
‘The March’ is the story of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, told by the people who organized and participated in it. It includes interviews with some of the key actors; members of the inner circles of the core organizational groups; Hollywood supporters and civil rights campaigners; John F. Kennedy administration officials; and the ordinary people who became part of the crowd of thousands, who thronged to Washington D.C. by all and every means: plane, bus and car.
Thanks a gazillion GGail!
You are most welcome Chipsticks.
@SpeakerBoehner you & your fellow #KOCHSTERS are the gravest threat to America since the Confederacy & for the same reason. cc @NancyPelosi— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 27, 2013
Take ‘em down, Bob!
We must stop them. They are totally out of control and hell bent on destroying America if that’s what it takes to undermine our President – Because He’s Black. Period.

My local PBS channel is showing the replay tonight (at 7C) of “In Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement” from 2010 (Yolanda Adams, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Jennifer Hudson, John Mellencamp, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, Smokey Robinson, and the Howard U Choir).
Ooooogh, I loved that concert Jacqueline, better get my dancing shoes ready again
Me, too, Chips! The good thing is those concerts were all so great, we can watch them over and over and still enjoy every little note … partly because of who’s sittin’ in the front row. And I love the Black Boys of Alabama. Dance!
JO’B, um, they’re the Blind Boys of Alabama
You’re still militant fired up! down girl :D
I like to say that I never stop to get embarrassed by my mistakes, because when I make ‘em, they are such whoppers that if I didn’t move quickly along, I’d never come out of my house again! You followed that, eh? I did get it right the first time I typed it, but oh so funny how I ended up with that, with my head all fired up! You got it right – I’m coming down from my “militancy,” now! :)
I know! that’s what was so funny – you were still FIRED UP.
You are our one and only JO’B and we love you to pieces :-)
Thank God, ’cause I’m counting on that – Ha! (And I love y’all back!)
Aug 28, 1908……LBJ was born.
He would have been 105yrs Old today.
Since his presidency……..Lots have changed, but more still remains unattained.

Jesse Jackson asking President Obama to do what he's failed to do in 50 years. If only Obama really had someone to work with…sigh. #MOW50— #ABWisdom (@adbridgeforth) August 27, 2013
Jesse Jackson should tend to his family. He has always been jealous of PBO (remember the “hot” mic caught him saying he wanted to cut off Sen. Obama’s balls?). Once someone shows me who they are, I believe them.
I never liked his eyes. And, yes, he does need to take care of his home business.
What is Jesse Jackson problem?
I thought I’d seen all photos dealing w/ our First Family (to a point where I sometimes worry that I’m becoming a first class digital stalker :) ), but even I found a couple here that I hadn’t seen. Stunning photos of FLOTUS! I especially liked the photo taken of her walking off stage at the Dem Convention, photo is backview. Amazing how Malia & Sasha have grown in 5 years. Enjoy:
PBO sends Condolences to the slain College Baseball player from Australia.
President Barack Obama has offered his condolences to the family of slain Australian baseball player Chris Lane.
Lane, 22, was a collegiate baseball player studying in the U.S. at Oklahoma’s East Central University. Three teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder in Lane’s fatal shooting on Aug. 16 in nearby Duncan, Okla.
Does he really have to do this – this killing was no different to the thousands that happen every year. The media was screaming about it – equating it to the killing of Trayvon – I see NO similarity whatsoever. I assume Chris went to the US to make money out of his sporting ability. If only there was some way to turn these killing events into a serious “war on guns” – but that ship seems to have passed – so many times before.
well it looks like fast company found good old boy Mitt Romney’s binder full of women! only fitting that none would be of color. I’m sure they are looking for that other binder full of women that was misplaced that held all the black/brown smart women. LOL.
4:0 ET ( whitehouse.gov/live): First Lady speaks at screening of 'Whitney Young’s Fight for Civil Rights'. Trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=5xSuBa…— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) August 27, 2013
I did a little research on Whitney Young (I was wondering about his cause of death at the young age of 50). He died of a heart attack after swimming with friends in Nigeria. Pres Nixon sent a plane to retrieve his body and read the eulegy at Mr. Young’s funeral. I’m no fan of Nixon, but that was a classy gesture. How far the GOP has fallen, when one is tempted to harken back to Nixon for sanity and class.
Does anyone know how strict they are concerning bags on the National Mall? I see that no backpacks are allowed for tomorrows event which is understandable. What about small purses or cross body bags for ladies? Thank you.
You can bring a purse.

New Defibrillator Works Without Wires Touching Heart
MONDAY, Aug. 26 (HealthDay News) — A new implantable defibrillator accurately detects abnormal heart rhythms and shocks the heart back into normal rhythm, yet has no wires touching the heart, new research shows.
The device, called a subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillator (S-ICD), is placed under the patient’s skin and has a wire under the skin along the left side of the breast bone.
“The device detects life-threatening arrhythmias from normal rhythms, and once it notices the life-threatening rhythm it will automatically shock the heart back to its normal rhythm,” said lead researcher Dr. Martin Burke, director of the Heart Rhythm Center at the University of Chicago.
The advantage of the device is its durability — it lasts longer because there is not as much flexibility in the wiring, Burke said. Wires in standard implantable defibrillators need to be flexible to pass through blood vessels to the heart. [.....]
[.....] “It will, however, be a nice alternative for patients who don’t need pacing,” he said. The new device also can be used to replace a defective or worn out standard implantable defibrillator, he said.
The new device is a little more costly than standard implantable defibrillators, Burke said, with a price tag of about $24,000, compared with $18,000 to $22,000 for a standard implantable defibrillator.
The cost of the new device is covered by some insurance companies and Medicare, he added.
