But…I love PBO more!
Love it UT, the second gif-y thingie is fantastic!!!
Yup. Loving these walks down memory lane.
Our FLOTUS!! :) Congrats Alma on #1!
Where is amk?
He was heading to South Africa yesterday Hopefruit, probably got arrested for telling wimmin jokes.
Ah..that’s right..I had forgotten completely. Thanks for reminding me! Yup, I’m sure he’s in jail right now :) :)
It’s been a rough week for airlines Hopefruit, VC and Amk on their travels.
Oh my – you’re right. VC is also M.I.A. No wonder we finally have some new “First-ers” on TOD today :) Heh. Other than that I do miss vc :(
(Pssst, Hopefruit? She’s back …. she just commented on an earlier thread….
….. you know how she has trouble keeping up)
ooops, didn’t know she was back. Hahahaa..
VC? Have you seen the terrible stuff Hopefruit has been saying about you? I was shocked, totally.
Don’t you DARE, you! Off to complain to PBO about this (as if he doesn’t have enough on his plate).
Innocence always leaves such obvious, and convincing, marks on you, CC. I give you credit for your persistent innocence.
Aaaw, Chips and Hopefruit! You both missed me! I’m so touched (and not in the head)!
“I’m so touched”
Are you safely home VC?
Yes and no. Yes, I’m in my home country. No, I’m not yet in my own home.
Ah, okay – well, safe travels!
TY – I’m staying still here (Montreal) for the weekend, then flying home on Sunday. I really don’t like to fly (if you can believe it with all the gallivanting I’ve been doing recently), so since the best deal was to go through here, I decided to break it up a bit. Plus it gives Offspring a chance to possibly practise his speaking skills, which he did in the Subway ‘restaurant’ this evening.
Ah, lovely trip VC, you’re really getting around! Enjoy your Montreal stay – we want pics of the whole trip when you’re done, you hear?
Oh. You didn’t see my explanation that I wasn’t able to get the proper film for my camera? Such a pity really, but these little mishaps occur often in (my) life.
Oh Hiya vc! Didn’t even realize you had arrived here. Yes I did miss you – not even realizing you had been away for a while :) Hope you are enjoying your stay in Montreal and have a safe flight back home on Sunday.
Hello, FRIEND! I notice you have been having a good time, sharpening your GOP skills. ;)
Was watching Nic Cage in National Treasure. I do love this movie. I liked the 2nd move too. I’ma neat Bruckhemier and Cage to get it together for the 3rd installment. It’s not like Cage is busy right now, plus don’t he still owe the guvm’t taxes on his island or something?
now watching Austin Powers:International Man of Mystery. So what’s up with Mike Myers lately I wonder? I’m guessing he’s just sitting back and collecting the Austin Powers and Sherk residual checks as they come rolling in!
You can tell how smart, out going and confident she is just by looking at her pictures. Have enjoyed all of your posts as usual! Thank you!
Ok, I’m totally old enough to remember those hairstyles on girls in my school.
 Hellooooooooo LL!
Those were the style in the eighties.
Hi, grandpa LL.

Crowd lauds Obama's MLK speech – Breanna Edwards and James Arkin shar.es/ziQ0e via @sharethis— Opinionista (@TheOpinionista) August 30, 2013
Well of course – he wasn’t addressing the pundiots (who all have agendas), but he was addressing the people who came out to the event, the crowds of people who were present and LISTENED to their President as he renewed their inspiration.
Tell Eleanor Holmes and the other AA guy on Lawrence last night who said that they were disappointed in the speech because PBO did not say what he was going to do to fix the problems.
Indeed COS. I pretty much said as much last night. I asked Lawrence why didn’t they ask the young black attendees at the event, instead of bringing a couple professional Black folks/politicians with agendas to criticize PBO.
I agree…were they even listening to what he said?
The day also generated a sad reminder of reality – I found this a reality read – sad but real.
“While the pundits continue to weigh in on President Barack Obama’s speech marking the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, the crowd left with mostly positive reactions.”
Of course! It never fails! The pundits listen to the President with the goal of finding some thing in his speeches that they could spin, or distort, to promote a negative assessment of the President, That is not the case with us ordinary people. We listen intently and seriously for the message the President is trying to communicate to us. You would think that by now the MSM would have learned a lesson about President Obama and his ability to connect with people — and especially African Americans. Instead of relying on privileged Blacks in academia and some envious Black elected officials to critique President Obama they should start interviewing people on the streets. Most of us have these well developed antennas to detect who is real and who is trying to con us. Cornel West and Tavis Smiley quickly found that out when they embarked on their bash President Obama bus tour that they pimped as as a “poverty tour.” Not very many people in the Black community were buying into their con games. That’s why they quietly disappeared. West and Smiley tried to undermine the President in order to deny him re-election. But the African American community, almost unanimously, said no to the two con men. All the people I know who watched the President’s speech (I watched it much later thankfully because of TOD) are absolutely livid about the pundits, black and white, who are criticizing it. They all thought the President gave an excellent speech. After viewing and listening to the President’s speech myself, I agree with them 100%.
the beltway never learns that we love and trust PBO and we can detect attacks based on envy and jealousy
I just love the pictures of FLOTUS.

‘ Evening, TODobots! After spening my entire day (almost) up in the air, I’m grounded for the next couple of days. Naturally I haven’t a clue what you all have been up to so, first .. …Can anyone point me to Dudette’s and DD4O’s commentary re #MOW?
This is probably no surprise to Dudette and swgablue:
Ga. insurance chief brags about sabotage of ObamaCare
Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens bragged “Everything in our power to be an obstructionist” vs. Obamacare.
ajc.com/weblogs/jay-bo…— Arapaho415 (@arapaho415) August 29, 2013
The GOP is so clueless, they will have no idea what hit them in Nov 2014.
Hope this creep knows how many people in GA are uninsured and stand to benefit from ObamaCare
I had posted an article about navigators in Georgia earlier this week. The University of Georgia applied for and was awarded a grant to train and deploy ”health navigators”. UGA would be working in conjunction with the state’s 163 Cooperative Extension offices as well as partners such as the Small Business Development Center and VITA. In addition, they would be reaching out to churches, libraries, “places that people congregate.”
This definitely would have reached a significant portion of the 1.7 million uninsured people in Georgia. This obstructionist law would definitely impact the effectiveness of UGA’s efforts. However, I would like to believe that, as with many laws, loopholes and workarounds can be found so that information can be disseminated and people can be educated as this program was intended to do. Navigators aren’t in the business of selling insurance, but as the article stated, are “providing consumer education…”
I predict that Hudgens’ boasting about deliberately sabotaging Obamacare will come back to haunt him.
They’re still in shock that Rmoney lost the election. Speaking of meltdowns, haven’t heard much from Turdblossom Karl lately.
I normally don’t like name-calling because it’s not productive and just makes the targets angry at you; where’s the benefit in that?
But this is so true:

Arapaho…if you’re here:) I did respond to your initial post, but that was eons ago…you asked about the dust storms and the monsoon happening simultaneously….Yes. Happens all the time. The monsoon is our seasonal wind shift that brings our summer rains. More humid and comes from Mexico. Ahead of a thunderstorm, we often get the dust ahead of the rain…thus, these nasty dust storms you see with dramatic effect…seems like every week! Sometimes, we even get microbursts that are like concentrated tornadoes that do some real damage in the areas they occur. Rip out trees, toss cars, lawn furniture…whatever isn’t tied down. Mustn’t forget about the floods that happen when we get rain coming at us that the desert can’t soak up fast enough…doesn’t have to be much..just 1 inch is enough to cause lots and lots of damage.
Thanks for thinking of me:) We’ve been seeing lots more dust storms this year than in previous years….let me tell you, they are nasty!
Hope this little tutorial was interesting:) Personally, I’m done with summer, done with dust storms, done with humidity…I want FALL!
And a couple of “in case you missed it” (ICYMI) items from yesterday’s anniversary of the most memorable speech in living memory:

They never stop, creating their own world to rant against. I think Chris Hayes must have health issues – hope he has insurance.
Mental health, I hope.
I thought I would leave the missing word to your imagination.
I find questions and probing of this topic, BY ANYONE, extremely offensive. Basically, it’s nobody’s business! If you want to see what a fraud these libertarians( shall we call them emotarians?) are…just look at this invasion of personal privacy to see they are so full of shit. A REAL Libertarian would never ASK that question! Live and let live! But we all know that’s not the way any of them, on the left or the right, conduct themselves. They are frauds, each and every one.
@aspirational12 @steveweinstein @sherifffruitfly So emoprog (aka libertarian) Hayes wants to invade Mayor Booker's privacy. That's ironic.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 30, 2013

I answered you @50 :)
Thanks for the explanation!
Still trying to wrap my head around the meteorological physics of the whole phenomenon.
Such a dramatic photo in that tweet from @fergusonphoto!
wow! Is that happening now? I’d scream and run for cover
Oh. Is Corey Booker gay? I hadn’t thought so. I don’t think he is, but is he the only politician whose significant other we’ve never seen? I think he’s the only politician who’s never shoved their partner down our throats. That’s a blessing, at least.
And even if he is gay? So what? And as df stated, it’s not his obligation to tell anyone unless he so chooses.
Hi hf, I’m not quite sure what your point is. Are you under the impression that I care about Booker’s sex life? I reread my statement and the main point of it was, he’s never, from my experience, talked about or shoved a significant other–male or female– down our gullets as most politicians tend to do in their typical, ‘look at me! I have a partner and because I have a partner, I’m normal, just like you. Now you can relate to me, so like me! Vote for me!!’ way. I’ve never cared about Corey Booker one way or the other and even if he were gay, I wouldn’t be inclined to start caring.
Sorry if this comes off as harsh. I just couldn’t read how you meant your response, were you under the impression that I’m a homophobe and that it would make a difference, or were you saying, “yeah, he’s never really invited us in his private life ( in agreement with what i said about him not shoving a significant other down our throats) so even if he’s gay, what does it matter?”
Anyway, hope all’s well with you.
Actually lisa, my question wasn’t directed at you at all – it was directed at the EMOS like Hayes. Sorry if my comment seemed to be in opposition what you said. I actually agree with you, that he doesn’t advertise his love life, which is no one’s business. I was just making a point that one way or the other it shouldn’t matter – he’s running for Senate, not for captain of the LGBT club on MSNBC.
Oh! Okay! I’m glad. I just wasn’t sure. I think I haven’t commented in a consistent matter in such a long time, that I’ve somehow lost the commenting/response rhythm that is purely TOD. that’s why I wanted to clarify so it didn’t sound like I was starting an argument over something that isn’t even our business and isn’t worth the headache of a potential disagreement with family, especially family I haven’t talked to in a minute.
No problem at all lisa – it’s not you – my comment sounded abrupt now that I went back and read it, even though that was the last thing on my mind!!

Linda, Anniebella, 99ts, pkayden, and jackiegrumbacher had a discussion this morning about CNN/Jessica Yellin this morning for getting away with saying that the President “is relieved” that Congress doesn’t work the way the UK parliament does.
MSM is allowed, probably even encouraged, by their corporate overlords to not mention that Congress is in session for less than a third of the year:
While on VACATION, @SenTedCruz has the balls to post this bullshit. UK Parliament came back from vacation. He didn't. http://t.co/abrgAsmxXJ— Mike Coleman (@buddhatree) August 29, 2013
@buddhatree @SenTedCruz shows his 'balls' because MSM choose not to highlight his hypocrisy. Yet they eagerly share his #ACA stupidity.— Vick C. (@sonamie) August 30, 2013
dear heavens – does Cruz know who is responsible to call congress from vacation? I live in Australia and I know it is NOT the President – which he implies by his tweet They spread lies that travel like the Yosemite fire – they are evil.
It is also sad that a large % of the population are so steeped in racism that they believe these lies.
Also – I don’t think I saw him in the 27 members of congress who were interested enough to be part of the briefing call. I get furious just looking at that tweet – I need the calm of HZ.
So @maddow wants to know what is Obama's rush to war that he's been considering for the last 3 years.— SportsGirl101 (@Arianna8927) August 30, 2013
I used to laugh in the past when lisalovesobama referred to Rachel Maddow as Mad cow, but seriously, I’m beginning to think she’s suffering from some human version of mad cow disease with this anti -Obama crap night after night after bloody night.
I cannot watch these overpaid emoprogs tear down the best thing that’s happened to this country since FDR.
I lived through the Vietnam War years.
Lived through one assassination after another, riots, turmoil, upheaval.
Lived through every boy having to register for the draft on his 18th birthday and then later having his fate determined like the Powerball lottery is today.
Where are the boomer producers/managers who can sit these fucking emoprogs down and tell them to STFU. They’re overpaid, and haven’t had an obstacle thrown in their way (not the least of which because they’re white). Remind them that for Hagel and other boomers, they didn’t have the luxury of lolling about in graduate school; in fact, they didn’t have the luxury of going to college because of the Vietnam War.
I hate the emoprogs more than the RWNJs, who are a diminishing threat due to cohort replacement (i.e., they’re not spring chickens) and other demographic shifts.
These emoprogs are intentionally choosing their battle, and that is to second guess, whine, complain and generally question the President’s legitimacy just as much as Joe Wilson, Alito, etc. do.
STFU. Use your frigging brains for once. Try to encourage, don’t leap to the conclusion that the smartest man in the room is wrong.
Sorry about the cursing, but emoprogs are such a danger to actual empathetic and pragmatic progressives. When our President actually accomplishes his second term agenda, I hope the history books record the 3-headed hydra he was facing:
Oh my – this comment ought to be front paged. Arapho you’ve said everything in a way that I wanted to but couldn’t if I tried. Up to this evening a couple people were still telling me how “smart” Chris Hayes was. Being smart is no virtue if it’s not used for the better good of humanity and society. Like you said, when the history books are written, the emoprogs will be on the WRONG side, with the MSM and GOP.
“I hope the history books record the 3-headed hydra he [President Obama] was facing:
– RWNJs ”
I hope so too, Arapaho!
Magnificent comment. Agree with it all!!!!!

White House Says Congress Will Get More Syria Consultation (Updated)
Updated 9:21 p.m. | The White House told Capitol Hill leaders Thursday night that more Congressional consultation on Syria would be needed — particularly when it comes to paying for what now seems to be an imminent operation.
In a 90-minute phone call between various administration officials and House and Senate leaders, as well as relevant committee chairmen and ranking members, 15 members of Congress asked questions of the assembled White House officials.
“The views of Congress are important to the president’s decision-making process, and we will continue to engage with members as the president reaches a decision on the appropriate U.S. response to the Syrian government’s violation of international norms against the use of chemical weapons,” a readout of the call from the White House said.
Secretary of State John Kerry, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Sandy Winnefeld, and White House national security adviser Susan Rice were all on the call.

The best explanation of the relationship of the Scooter Libby scandal was succinctly made in 2007 by Tom Toles:

Meant to say the relationship between Scooter Libby and the Iraq War.
Cory Booker had better watch out! If he wins the senate seat, he will be the emoprogs newest target. They will not let him off the hook for anything, and will hold him accountable for each and every vote he takes, ignoring the good votes, but keeping counts and holding long-term grudges for the “bad” votes.
even before today’s privacy-invading question from Hayes, I have seen a determined group attack him for not being “progressive enough”
Why does O’Donnell have those jackasses on his show tonight. Alex, SAteve and Snowden buddy Hayes?
I warned folks that this show was going to be emoprog central tonight and the correct response was to turn it OFF. :)
I missed your warning. It would not bother me one bit if Chris Hayes go join his buddies in Brazil or Russia.

Friends, I know probably few of you can read Italian, but I just read a nice piece from a respected Italian publication, talking about how Pres. Obama’s policies in the Middle East of undermining Islamist extremism, of negotiations with Iran, of undermining Russian influence, and of isolating Assad are headed toward what would seem an improbable and unexpected success. http://www.linkiesta.it/stati-uniti-medio-oriente
I used the translator:) Works like a champ!!
Did Dudette report in on her trip to WDC?
Anyone have any thoughts on an imminent US strike in Syria? I think PBO needs to tell Congress to get back to Washington and vote on this so that they have skin in the game. I’m shoked that he would take the US into this without international backup. The reporting on this is surprising and doesn’t sound like anything the president has done before. I’m disturbed and need someone to talk me down.
joyfulmeme, all I can say to you is do you trust President Obama to do the right thing? I have never heard the President say that he would go into this without international backup. How often have you heard us say that the media can’t be trusted, don’t believe everything they say, or report. When you hear it from President Obama, then you believe it.
PBO discussed his “real thought process” on Syria during the interview that he did with PBS yesterday.
POTUS said he has not yet made a decision and is still consulting.
A majority MSM are just hysterically speculating – as usual.
Please watch it using the videos provided on earlier blog post on this site.
Otherwise, I trust him to make the right call on this very complex issue.
Take a deep breath and stop obsessing about media speculations and unconfirmed reports. Wait to hear what the President plans to do. From his mouth last night he said that he has not yet made a decision. So why are you all disturbed about what you hear before you hear from the President himself? Speaking for myself, I trust President Obama to do the right thing. I also know that the media, and especially the current US media, loves hype and sensationalism. So, I am not about to set my hair on fire, or start lecturing the President on what he should do or should not do, based on hyped media reports. The reason I voted for President Obama was because I trust him to make these tough decisions. For almost five years he has not disappointed me. Even when he made decisions that I didn’t like, I knew he made them based on sound reasoning.
So, here is my humble advice to you: If you trust and respect President Obama stop obsessing about sensational and hyped reports from the media.
“If you trust and respect President Obama stop obsessing about sensational and hyped reports from the media.”
I recommend you step away from the insanity of the cable chatter machine and listen to the WH briefing today:
The only reporting you need to listen to is the reporting that comes directly from the President. All this talk on the so-called “news” is just rumors and wild guesses and wishful thinking from warmongers. They have declared and fought the war, determined the outcome, filed charges against President Obama for Bush’s crimes and pulled their hair out because he’s ignoring them in favor of people who actually know what they’re talking about. Not one of these reports is based on factual information and not one of these reporters has access to the classified information that the President’s advisors are pouring over.
They are relying on people to freak out and join them in their malarky. Don’t do it. When the President makes a decision, it will be based on thoughtful deliberation and he’ll let us know what that decision is – a decision made from a pool of bad to worse possible decisions.
