Oslo, 2009

If only some of his opponents – not least on the left – actually listened to his words….

The interview of Jon Favreau after he left the White House I think was where he said this speech was done a few minutes before he spoke after almost no sleep on the flight over there working on it. I’m not 100% sure of the details but that was the general situation I believe.

Of course you wouldn’t know that based upon the most impressive speech itself. He’s just amazing.

There you go, my sweet Layla. Your space is filled with that format of a peace. “the wings of the angel wrap themselves around this wonderful man and protect him.”

I did something while lighting my candles tonight. I place a candle on both sides of President Obama’s photo (the one on the top shelf of my bookcase. There is always two stone that say,”Believe.” and the other: ” Peace.” My spirit just led me to place those two candles in my space for our president. Then on the other side of my brother’s photo on the top shelf also, is a hand painted stone that was painted just for my brother’s photo reads:” Lord, show me the way.” The room is peaceful in this time of turmoil way on the other side of the world.

We will trust that our president will be given the pure facts, pure truths, and let his actions be guided with truth, compassion, clear orders, and a heart content on honesty and humbleness for all concerned. He will do what is right. That is his core. We must pray for those around him. () () () Remember when we signed or clicked on that, ” I’m In.” Okay. HZ

People project what they want to project onto Pres. Obama as though he were a blank slate and not a human being with thoughts, ideas, and policy positions. They hear him speak, but they don’t actually listen.

I read his speech again today and who he is now is the same person who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.

Some are interested in faux outrage that misleads the public while lining their pockets. Pres. Obama is interested in solutions that make not only America, but the world a better place.

He is President because he wants to do something not be something. He sees the world not as it is but as it should be; and we are better for it.

And we have had such a dearth of true leaders, here and around the world, that many people look at President Obama and do not understand leadership when they see it smack ‘em in the face. It’s almost as though they are afraid of it, because it’s “too large.”

I think he has confused the nation, or a big chunk of it, because he is simply the personification of a smart, well meaning, kind, and selfless leader, and he’s not looking for glory. He has a gazillion other attributes some of us haven’t seen in ages and some have never seen, from the men (so far, all male) who’ve been at the top of our government.

Maybe one day he’ll reveal a leadership flaw, but I haven’t seen any yet, and I ain’t kidding. Maybe the President’s race has not been the biggest reason why people attack him daily. Maybe it’s simply the overwhelming content of his character, but people are so empty inside they think they hate him because he’s an African American, because surely it couldn’t be because he’s just a better person than they are. How’s that for convoluted thinking? Who knows. These are just my random thoughts tonight, for what they’re worth to anybody but me!

      • August 30, 2013 at 10:45 pm

You have stated the nugget of truth so beautifully. He’s so much without artifice that people cannot believe such a human is real and walking in their midst. He makes their insecurities overwhelm them that they hate him for exposing their phoniness without him saying a word. It is very fascinating and frightening to watch. Glad I’m alive to see this.

^^^ I have no idea why, but I feel the same way. It’s frightening but we can’t take our eyes off of it. It’s really a gift to be alive during the presidency of Barack Obama, as you said – emotionally draining, but truly a gift.

That is because they know THIS president can take the heat…they feel ok bombarding him with such negativity. I am so sick of the media. There was an article in WaPo today about Rubio and how he was booed when he talked about immigration reform, but as soon as he mentioned ObamaCare, he was applauded. And then one of the GOoPers said how the MSM is afraid to go after the president because he’s black. The projection with these ignoramuses is just amazing.

  10. August 30, 2013 at 9:21 pm

Chips, you note “If only some of his opponents – not least on the left – actually listened to his words….”

I suspect many have and the words, the person delivering them and all his accomplishments combined leave them in a puddle of self-loathing because they know they’d never be able to muster even 1% of his ethics, his courage & his intellect.

His enemies are 1. a small number of plutocrats, 2. a larger number of greedy rich folk and a way larger number of minions who either work for or are mindlessly enslaved by the groups 1 & 2.

For the vast majority of humanity there is no confusion about who President Obama is and that is why they love, respect and want to do everything they can to support him.

One of those folk is you and TOD is your contribution to the fact that the 2nd word in Yes We Can is WE – not I – and it is for each of us to do whatever WE can to contribute to the Change and expand the Hope – for the sake of humanity.

    • August 30, 2013 at 9:39 pm

      Hiya Bob, you’re lovely!

At times like this I remember what attracted me to PBO in the first place – it was reading Dreams from my Father and being struck by not just his liberalism, but his pragmatism too. There were some issues where he was quite conservative (eg gay marriage), and I admired that honesty, he wasn’t just a packaged, plastic politician with positions set in stone according to what political wing he supposedly was appealing to. He was real, he was true to himself. And at the time I was tiring of being a hardcore leftie because I finally concluded unswerving hardcore ‘leftism’ achieved nothing, except the luxury of feeling pure. But here was a man who you truly felt would get things done, no matter how incrementally – and that’s the only way things ever get done – and would always strive to actually make a difference to people’s lives.

      And he has.

I trust him implicitly, and my thoughts are with him through all of this, the weight on his shoulders is immense. It’s a terrifying situation, and no matter what he decides there will be a whole bunch of factors beyond his control. That’s what’s so frightening. I don’t want any American boots on the ground, that would simply inflame the Middle East again, understandably, but I do want to see these people helped. The world cannot stand by and let this continue.

      • August 30, 2013 at 9:47 pm

Appreciate your taking the time to write that comment, Chips. Could not be more aligned with how I feel about President Obama or the situation. Thank you.

      • August 30, 2013 at 9:57 pm

Yes, it was this very unusual authenticity that first drew me to Senator Obama. He has real human ideas and thoughts that are his own. He values open discussion and growth and excels at decision-making in very tough situations. Above all, he is honest. He really is the most astonishing breath of fresh air in politics and in the world. I will always trust him.

Totally off the subject of Syria and our beloved president, but tomorrow is the day a small group of us have planned for, raised funds for and worked very hard all summer to bring about–our second annual Latino rally/festival. Please send your positive thoughts our way, especially as rain is threatening to dampen the day. We’re expecting hundreds of people and we will be providing free food, a live band, a group of Latino dancers, a bouncy house for children, many many games, sno cones, cotton candy, a balloon man, wonderful door prizes, health care information, immigration reform information, voter registration and a chance for people to “practice” on a real voting machine. This is partly in support of local Latino candidates–the first ever–and partly to gin up voter registration and enthusiasm for the big 2014 push. We are attempting to build strong and long-lasting bonds between the Democratic Party and the Latino community and we’re trying to make voting a habit, something people will do for every election and not just every four years. Please, please cross your fingers that all goes well, the wet weather holds off and people leave having had a good time and knowing more about the power and responsibility of voting.

This is how I feel…. thanks @MagicalEarth for saving me from writing this all out. ;)

‘On an intellectual level I’m excited to see what President Obama will come up with. Excited about the change he brings. I want people to see what a wonder he is! The old ways are raising their voices loud as always, not doing anything constructive. I believe he is one of the greatest president’s we have had, certainly in the top 5 or 10, and we are seeing history in the making with him in so many ways, including in Syria. What I wish for him is comfort and rest when he needs it. And that everything that is good in his desires for this situation fall into place easily and effortlessly lighting the path for him to this new policy and our new place in our relationship with our brother and sister nations in this world.’

The ‘feeling’ is the same for me, VC, & I’m grateful for MagicalEarth making it explicit.

The next few days are likely transformational in ways that will unfold not for weeks or months but for decades. We are observers of, and way more importantly, must be participants in the writing of a just history.

We can do so by being forthright and unrelenting in our support of President Obama.

We have no excuse if we are not.

Had YouTube & Twitter existed on 8 Dec 1941, if not by 9 Dec 1941, certainly by 18 Dec 1941 no person of conscience on the planet could have ethically or otherwise not committed themselves to stopping Hitler’s genocide against the Jews.

Today, re: Assad, we have NO EXCUSE. We are all, the near entirety of humanity, witness to his heinous crimes against humanity.

In keeping with the topic, it is revelatory to me how the emoprogs react to our President. Their unwavering posture is that they are the only ones in their personal ideological purity who possess truth and morality and those who actually take on the responsibility of governance are all corrupt and unworthy of their approval. They don’t get the fact that we have a President who is ruled by conscience, and rules with conscience. Using military force to protect the innocent now and in the future from dictators with poison gas is a matter of conscience with President Obama. There is no political gain, no gain in power or prestige, but he’s going to do it anyway, because it’s the right and responsible thing to do for the world and for our nation. So they try to paint him with all their projections of unworthy motives because they themselves simply don’t have the courage or character to govern and wield power, including military power, with integrity and responsibility.

Besides being so burdened about PO having to deal with Syria issue, I now have to deal with my daughter and her pain, my pain and many other cancer mom’s. What started all this? We all got a letter earlier this evening from the WH about our petition asking to turn the WH gold for September–Childhood Cancer Month. As you all know, it’s always pink w/huge pink ribbon for October. Maybe the easiest way to sum up what I’m dealing with is to share a letter from a cancer mom that is friends with my daughter.
http://monicamfochtman.com/. Please read it and that will give you an idea how high the tension and frustration is. My daughter said Monica Mom said it much better than she could. This issue, like Syria, is majorly complex and fraught with emotions and heartbreak. I just don’t know what to say to my daughter. Open to suggestions from any of you. Thanks for listening.

      Hi tnmtngirl,

The letter at the link you provide is so totally out of synch with everything I know the President and his Administration, ever since 2009, has done that it’s impossible for me to offer any form of substantive response. Perhaps you could explain to those of us who do not have the background precisely what the issue is and then we can try to be helpful to whatever extent possible.

While I feel for all who have lost someone, especially a child, to cancer, it seems to me this woman never was a supporter or voter for PBO. I read his letter and it was not political propaganda. His proclamation for Sept. being dedicated to childhood cancer month would mean more to me than lighting the WH in gold; step by step, give it time.

    • August 30, 2013 at 11:14 pm

      Hi tnmtngirl

I read PBO’s letter and your friend’s response and I don’t see the “kiss off” as she mentioned. Maybe she was tired from the strain of being on vacation with a sick child. I thought it was a compassionate letter and made what I think a better alternative. Maybe it was not logistical to do it this year due to the budget constraints the GOP have put on the WH. I suggest that after the sequester she send another letter requesting the WH be decorated with gold or lite in gold or whatever. I just don’t see what she is upset over. Sorry.

I do not know what you are going through, I have no personal experience to draw on – although it would be something I can only have utmost sympathy with – almost unbearable to have a child so ill & not know what will be the future for your child.

The response to the letter – presumably written in anger and sadness – like too many – attacking the president for the ills that no-one can solve and blaming him for not being there in the right place at the right time for every last person in the world. Has another President ever had to solve every world issue – be it war, politics, gun control, poverty and now every illness. I’m so terribly sorry you have to face the cancer, but I do not see this rant against the President as a solution to anything. Is that the issue you want to discuss with your daughter? It will be truly difficult – it is no doubt the one thing that has currently taken over her world. I have no useful suggestions – except perhaps waiting for the anger to die down before saying anything may be a starting point.

And just to mention – Since the komen attack on planned parenthood – I hate the pink ribbons and wish the White House would give that away.

Here’s the President’s Proclamation for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, if you haven’t seen it:

      http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/08/30/presidential-proclamation-national-childhood-cancer-awareness-month-2013

These proclamations are not just seen by visitors to the White House in D.C. as the lighting-the-White-House events are; they are distributed throughout the country – as well as the world – via the White House website, reaching a larger audience. Of course, there are numerous “awareness” citations issued year-round, and only 12 months, and I’m sure some precedents are already set. Each is as important to one group as another. Childhood cancer is particularly heartbreaking, and my thoughts go out to the suffering children and their families. We all pray for better prevention measures and a cure.
