And I just love it how VP Biden stands by like the quiet conciliator and great support. The two are powerful in their simplicity.

    • August 31, 2013 at 2:17 pm

      Yes.

A cooling off period, hopefully for Assad as well.

All eyes will be on Congress (whenever the heck they return). The MSM will have a circus to entertain them, while the President is doing the actual International work next week at the G20.

      Chips stated it perfectly.

      MASTERFUL.

  4. August 31, 2013 at 2:12 pm

    Pitch perfect.

The President is always several steps ahead of the so-called pundits.

Hope this results in the GOP and emoprogs wildly chasing after the next shiny object, since their target can no longer be POTUS.

    High five, Mr. President.

    This made me laugh.

I am so proud of my President. I agree that Congress is saying “Oh shit.” I just pray that they will be able to dig deep down inside of themselves and find that little bit of leadership that they used to have and use it. I am also praying that they will know that the world is watching and they will leave their partisan politics back at home.

Cindy, while it would be wonderful if they showed the leadership necessary to get us through this, I’m not really confident in their capabilities to do so — but I trust our president, he’s got our back, I’ve got his.

Since so many members of Congress, both dem & repug have been in front of every camera running their mouths, they should return to Washington today and get to work. I am so happy our President is laying all of this on Congress. They have to make their choices public.

Indeed. This was jaw-dropping. He was dead serious. Everybody, especially the critics, should realize that President Obama is always preoccupied by the long term consequences of things. He’s EXTREMELY preoccupied by the potential of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, chemicals, nuclear. He’s thinking about the next decades, the next century even. And he’s willing to take enormous risks in order to avoid a more chaotic world in the next century.

That being said, I’m sure he’s praying each night that the Russians will finally cave in and do something…

And I have to add: President Obama is now confronted, on the international level, with the same kind of idiotic and petty opposition that he faces at home. The president and his team have worked very hard for more than two years now to obtain the collaboration of the Russians in Syria. But instead of doing their part to build a safer world, Putin and his gang are playing power games. Just like what the republicans are doing domestically.

I watched this on CBS (on line) and signed in and commented. There are people on there that were just putrid. I asked that they please respect the President of the US & the Office. Not so. One wanted to shot him he said. It was pretty disgusting and of course one brought the bible up and said he was the anti-christ.(in so many words) he is bringing the country to and end. This aught to set them all back a bit now that Congress has a roll in the decision. I Love this Mn, Our President, Barack Obama. Whoot!!!!

Kristof twisting himself into a pretzel to find some way to criticize PBO. Just imagine the confusion this is causing for the gasbags. I bet most of them are babbling incoherently right now. They just got a rude awakening. I am sure they liked it better when they could complain that President Obama was going it alone without the approval of congress. Now, they will have to find something wrong with asking for congress to vote on the matter. Actually, the tweet from Kristof is exhibit A. Exactly the kind of swill we can expect from the gasbags in the media. They are so full of themselves second guessing every move President Obama makes.

      • 89 jacquelineoboomer
        August 31, 2013 at 3:02 pm

Exactly ~ Exhibit A. Kristof and so many others think because they’ve left our shores and interviewed people in other countries, and profited from it, they are now foreign policy gurus. Some people don’t even bother to leave their desks, but still think they are FP experts.

Exhibit B has already begun – some are saying President Obama is a coward. What fools they all are.

          August 31, 2013 at 3:12 pm

Exhibit C – Peter King of NY statement – “President Obama is abdicating his responsibility as commander-in-chief and undermining the authority of future presidents.”

Or would that be putting to shame past presidents like Bush, eh, Peter King?

Peter King can’t even stand the fact that the President clearly stated he has the authority and he’s not abdicating anything. Peter King can’t stand the fact that there is now a precedent set for future Bush-Cheney warmongering presidents to consult with Congress, while retaining presidential authority.

          Love it.

I even love the fact Charlie Rangel was just on CNN stating he’s against the narrow limited strikes on Syria. President Obama reminded Charlie Rangel that he, too, has a voice and he should use it. After Wolfie asked him what he thought of King’s remarks, Rangel said that King’s voice is “1/535th” of Congressional voices, so he could say whatever he felt like saying.

Stand up, Congresspeople! President Obama just gave ya the floor, and parts of it are laughable.

This is a brilliant political move by the president. In one shot he silences critics on the Left and Right, gives the U.N. more time to present the evidence, allows international support to build AND he avoids a tricky situation at the G-20 next week.

Congress will vote for military action because voting against it would mean that the unspoken threat to stop Iran’s nuke program by force, if necessary, would be meaningless. Also Assad would then quickly win the war and thus signal to every despot and terrorist that using chemical weapons is perfectly fine.

Plutocrat and former third party presidential candidate Ross Perot donated $1 million to Planned Parenthood of Texas, to help fill the gap left by the state’s defunding of the Women’s Health Program.

“For nearly 100 years Planned Parenthood has helped to educate men and women regarding family planning and general family health,” said Margot Perot, speaking for the Perot Foundation of Dallas. “Our family has supported this nonprofit for many years because we are impressed with the work they do—providing birth control; scientifically based education; breast health exams; and basic, life-saving healthcare for women who cannot afford services otherwise.”
