Media Outlets Spitting Mad At Obama For Spoiling Their Plans To Cash In On War

    By Rick Ungar

    ——————————–

    And the media was pissed.

Some focused on their having been misled by the speech given by Secretary of State John Kerry—a speech that appeared to be the final case for war in Syria and a warning to the media get reporting staff into the region because of what was coming. So angry was the media at this bit of perceived misdirection, many suggested that Kerry would now have to resign his post in embarrassment.
    .
    .
And then there were the pundits appearing on networks representing all sides of the political spectrum—including those who claim to play it ‘down the middle’—who took to the airwaves to angrily argue that the President’s backing off an attack pending Congressional approval would weaken America in the eyes of the world.

    Really?

“In reality, there are two things that are driving the response to Obama’s “surprise” Syrian move—ratings and politics.”

Our media is a disgusting cesspool.

      • September 3, 2013 at 9:23 am

This is so unbelievably sad, dudette. The corrupt, myopic US media has lost the plot. This is not about them. This is about Syrian children and their families who are dead because a mad dictator chose to violate international law and use toxic gas on his own people. Does anyone even care about this? SOS Kerry talked about the moral obscenity of what went on in Syria. He is always respectful of the president and did not jump ahead of his boss in making a commitment about the use of forces. He merely described the situation and its dire implications. PBO made it as clear as possible that he was prepared for a very limited, very short term engagement and would NOT commit to a war or to troops on the ground. And yet nobody but the people here at TOD understood either one of them. I would sooner listen to a roomful of kindergarteners commenting on international affairs than anyone in the mainstream media. It’s why I NEVER turn on TV news or watch ANY pundit. And yet, like all of us on TOD, I have a firmer grasp of what’s actually happening than 95 percent of the people I talk to. Thanks to the blessed Chips, her stellar partner, UT, and the host of superb posters, we actually hear speeches directly.
We don’t have to have a twerp like Mathews tell us what the president thinks or says, we see it ourselves. We’re witnessing history as it is, not as it’s interpreted by mediocre propagandist with their own axes to grind. That makes us very lucky and very smart, which may be one reason more and more people are turning to this site.

The media is completely and utterly worthless, I have learned so much from coming here and, as you say jackieg, getting my news straight from the sources. Even when I see arguments, I feel folks here work it out and are not rude, or condescending to each other. I was an avid Huffposter, but no longer, they are more my entertainment now.

Kudos to Mr Ungar for saying what needed to be said and what all of us here at TOD knew from jump street. I guess we can say that the Grand Dame of MSNBC (aka Mrs. Greenspan) was exhibit A in this spectacle. She was apoplectic because her breathless reporting was all wrong. And don’t even get me started with her outrage about the optics of playing golf. The GOP and MSM obsession with President Obama’s vacations and golfing is sick and twisted. Anyway, I sincerely hope this post will be tweeted (Thank You Dudette) , emailed, face booked, and communicated in every possible way. It’s great to see an article pulling back the curtain on our inept and amateurish media. We deserve better.

      • September 3, 2013 at 9:26 am

LH, I firmly believe that most decent Americans see through all this barely disguised hatred. There are a few ignoramuses who are impressed with the words from tv blowhards, but most people have enough common sense to either disregard the likes of Greenspan or turn her off. I’ve only ever seen a clip or two of her and I find her absolutely insufferable. There are so many wonderful things to do in this world that wasting one precious minute on that woman is one minute too long.

I see McCain is all over the place blabbing that he won’t support the Syrian action if it doesn’t go far enough. I thought he said the opposite yesterday after meeting with PBO. McCain seems to still be bitter about losing, trying to remain significant, loves bombing stuff and full blown war, just not with his kids/family.

I have been trying to learn more about the Syrian rebels, who they are. Oy. I have got to say I trust PBO, but I don’t trust any of the other players in this mess. And speaking of……..Israel test fires a missile today as some sort of warning and show of might. Ay yi yi. That whole Middle East—-a fragile powder keg. A multiple faceted migraine.

    • September 3, 2013 at 9:28 am

Dotster, I believe the president feels as you do, that’s why he won’t take sides and commit to so called ‘regime change.’ His aim is very narrow and specific–take out the sarin gas sites and go home.

    Russia eyes U.S. lobbying campaign

    By Steve Benen

    —————————————————

The meetings between Russians and U.S. lawmakers would be fascinating, wouldn’t they? “Don’t believe your State Department and your CIA; instead put your faith in the Putin government!”

I don’t doubt that there will be plenty of members of Congress who balk at authorizing force in Syria, but I’ll be eager to see just how many of these lawmakers say they were persuaded by a Russian lobbying campaign.

Greenwald Reports NSA Spied on Presidents of Brazil and Mexico

    By Bob Cesca

    ————————————

The goal of revealing this information is clear. Greenwald and Snowden have successfully exploited the “sparking a debate” motive as a Trojan Horse for injecting unrelated information into public view as a means of vindictively damaging the operations of U.S. and U.K. intelligence communities, not to mention the reputation of the United States as a whole, while also pushing the unrealistic message that surveillance is generally impermissible. Yes, we already knew that nations spy on other nations, but to publicly disclose specific instances of international spying — while on the soil of one of the nations being surveilled — confirms these suspicions and sorely embarrasses everyone involved.
    .
    .
Anyway, it’s naive to think other national security services aren’t surveilling various members of our government. And that’s what makes Greenwald’s reporting so simultaneously insufferable and dangerous.

At this point it almost seems to be a standard disclaimer of sorts that authors use, lest anyone calls them an O’bot. I mean, which President has ever achieved exactly or all what they promised? Which politician for that matter has? PBO, in my view has come the closest to doing what he promised, and if you factor in the unprecedented obstruction he has received not just from the GOP but from Dems, as well, his record is superior to that of most or all recent Presidents.

Good GOD they can not STAND that this president is loved and respected, and the fact that Mr. Gross even says that from the opener, and then has to take his little jab there in the middle. Guess it’s to soften the blow a bit.

McCain Blasts Fox’s Islamophobia: Would You Have A Problem With An American Saying ‘Thank God?’

    ——————————————-

“Would you have a problem with an American person saying ‘thank God? Thank God?’” McCain asked, clearly irritated. “That’s what they’re saying. Come on! Of course they’re Muslims, but they’re moderates and I guarantee you they are moderates.” Kilmeade didn’t respond to McCain and quickly moved on with the interview.
