And look out, Serena:
I knew it! I came back for a second look!
Written and visual apology needed here, Ms Chips!
VC!!!!!! You caught up!!!!
That’s not an apology!

Can you make him smaller, Chica? I didn’t intend for him to take up so much space – just to thumb his my nose at you.
He’s perfect VC, looooooove him!!
vc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re not left behind!
You noticed, Df? I’m now awaiting CC’s abject apology for dissing me earlier – an apology which I’m not sure yet that I’ll accept.
Hey, you’re not only caught up, you’re FIRST! Wooooot!
One of those rare moments when my instincts kicked in, Dudette. 😉 And ‘caught up’ is a loose translation of the truth; ‘climbed over’ might be a more accurate rendition of how I got here.
Hot dog. VC!! VC!!!
You saw ‘hot dog’ before I even sent him to Chips! Wow!
Hot dayum! vc is on First
WOW VC congrats!
reading the comments at the end of the previous blog post, I thought Ms. Chips had succeeded in tricking you!
I will not admit that I was smirking as I imagined your face reacting to the trickery!
/in a far-in accent/ ‘*I* wills not be trickt, GCL’ – except when I am, of course!
Hilarious…. My stomach hurts from laughing so hard. Too funny.
NEW: EU points finger at Assad; number of countries willing to go in on military strike on Syria in "double digits" cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-5…— (@NewsBreaker) September 07, 2013
The EU are a bunch of Cowards, someone need to ask them if they remember Adolf Hitler.
Really! I agree with you! There have been some excellent articles written about the impact of Bush, Iraq and the lying. I think that’s a lot of the world resistance. And Putin is doing pushback. What EU and others are saying is they want proof (Bush problem) and they want the results of the testing which will be about a week. I’ve seen a lot of articles saying privately they agree. I think once that proof is in place they will have something real they can point to support them.
In the meantime, POTUS will be speaking on Tuesday. We can contact our GOP reps and senators. Tweet, facebook or whatever and be a part of all this.
I hoe to one day get the opportunity to work out with First Lady Obama. I could keep up with her I believe.
Ha! Good one Chipstah!
Barafa Nadal, Alice!!!
Wow….Earlier it was Michael Jordan and Now Rafael Nadal
POTUS hands down no Competition.
This is so sweet.
The mascot behind POTUS is weird.
*Ahem* It’s staring at Pres. Obama’s shall we say, gluteus maximus.
Can’t stop laughin’ at that!
Either can’t help it because of its height, or is a naughty mat TODobot in disguise.
I’m actually in pain here …. went up to have a look ….. tears flowing!!!!!!
I had to go and look again and you are RIGHT!!! LOL! Big smile, too.
LOL! Wouldn’t you? I know I would!
Hahahaha! I had to go back and look too!
So, I had a wonderful experience in the library today which, combined with the story I told everyone about teabaggers trying to defund KY libraries, and what PBO is doing in regards to Syria, has me thinking of a new post for tomorrow.
You know you are actually confusing me, LL. For some reason I thought you didn’t work Saturdays.
Goofy is good too but those basketball pics are ….
POTUS loves golf, FLOTUS loves tennis. I wonder if POTUS ever play tennis with FLOTUS and FLOTUS play golf with POTUS.
there is a video in which FLOTUS says that she plays tennis with POTUS & that is a very competitive game because each one wants to win.
in addition, reports from their holiday vacations in Hawaii always include a few day where the press reports that they had a tennis match
Posted on the last thread. Reposting, but there is a space after (?)
Oh I love this post! Well Done, Chips!!! LOL!!!
SoS Kerry speaking French…..
Goodness heavens, even John Kerry speaking French makes me moist! WTH is it about that language?
I feel like you have written. I have no clue what he said. Had ONLY one semester of french many moons ago. I gave it up for there was Zero Time left to quiz in a french class.
That clip is so cool! What a cultured, confident man. It seemed to me even his gestures were French. Well, now that I think about it, wasn’t French the language of diplomacy in the 1700′s. Anyway, loved this. Thank you!
The part that elicited the most laughter (at the end) was when he said he had to continue in English otherwise they (Americans, I’d guess) wouldn’t let him return home.
One reason I love to visit France, is just to hear French. It just flows on and over me like a sparkling brook.
One experience I remember vividly was visiting the Orangerie, where Monet’s wonderful HUGE water lily paintings are. They’re in two round rooms with comfortable benches in the center for viewing. My husband and I sat down, and in came three teachers with three groups of five year olds. I thought…..oh no…..very selfishly…..I do not want to share my viewing of Monet with noisy five year olds. What a marvelous surprise….each teacher sat on the floor with her little group, and talked to them in a very soft voice, they responded in very soft voices, and I forgot they were even in the room. One little boy got up and left a group, and the teacher, very quietly, told her group to sit still, and tiptoed after him, brought him back, never raising her voice. All three groups operated that way. No voice was ever raised, just this soft murmuring of French in the background.
The first time I went, my daughter was with me, and it was a delight to see and hear her speaking French, and by the end of the time being very comfortable.
I just finished reading the first set of compositions from my class. This is a literacy autobiography…..how they learned to read and write, and how that impacts their life today. One young man is from Burkina Faso, a French speaking country in West Africa. His first language was a tribal language, but at five he went to French school, and is now trilingual. He talked about learning to read and write in French school, and had an interesting comment. He said that in his country’s system, they have the same teacher for the first two grades, so they can bond better and build their skills in the same environment. I thought that was intriguing as an educational strategy.
‘Lucky duck’ you are! I have never visited France. In fact, I have never left North America, and only recently started to stray farther away from home. I like to hear different languages though I get really frustrated when I don’t know what is being said. In truth I periodically tell myself I really should learn another language, but so far TODvillage has taken up all my time (yeah, right!)
let me know when you are looking to visit East Africa;
last time I drove through the small town next to were PBO’s father is buried (i.e the famous ancestral home where his siblings & grandma live)
Let me learn some Swahili first. I truly would be uncomfortable in a situation where I don’t understand the main language being spoken around me.
A significant population in E. Africa use English (Uganda & Kenya were British Colonies) in addition to Swahili. You would be fine and would have a free interpreter who has your back
Swahili is just one of the many languages in East Africe. English is widely spoken and understood. Learn a few Swahili phrases and you’ll be welcomed with open arms. (You’ll be welcomed with or without.)
GM, VSW! GCL planted the seed, and now you are helping to water it. Thanks for the reassurance and welcome. In truth it will take a while to take root and grow, or not, especially since I’ve never seriously considered going so far from home. Don’t tell anyone else; I’m not really a very adventurous person (= a real coward), AND I don’t like flying, so ….. time will tell.
Magnifique Monsieur Kerry! Quel bon choix!
This must have made the French very happy! Bravo for Secretary Kerry!
Seeing and hearing SOS Kerry speak French makes me want to go back to school. Mrs. Kerry speaks five languages herself. I love actual seeing the many gifted and brilliant members of POB’s Cabinet have opportunities to use their gifts. We do have one of the most gifted and brilliant people in this administration.
I hope and pray that Sec. Kerry will be very blessed in his traveling and speaking with all world leaders. I really do believe that he will also be a great SOS for this administration. We have so much to be grateful to POB for seeking the brightest, boldest, and graceful men and women to serve in his administration.
Mrs. Kerry looked very nice and strong as well at the hearing. She is no push over either. I respect both of them greatly. I believe that Sec. Kerry has President Obama’s back as well.
I took French in my junior year because I had to., but I Will Not Embrace any conversation in French here at TOD. There are great scholarly TODers here, and I am no fool to even attempt to go there at all. But hearing Sec. Kerry makes me want to listen to him all night.
Oh, the banana pudding, Desertflower is delicious. Lord have mercy. Now if I can find a hubby, my cooking skills would improve tremendously. That is how I graciously lingered with my last romantic one for 10 years. He loved my cooking. Still might be hope for me. I am praying on that also. HZ
Hey, HZ. You sound like you’ve lived a very interesting life – I love hearing about the snippets you share with us here.
I didn’t know Mrs Kerry was at the hearing. I’m glad she’s doing better health-wise.
@Gus_802 @TheWarRoom_Tom @Green_Footballs Wikileaks only pulled 1% of Aussie vote? Weird, the lunatic fringe usually does better than that.— (@eclecticbrotha) September 07, 2013
The lunatic fringe was there – there were just so many lunatic fringe parties to vote for. In Victoria (where Assange was on the ticket), the party who will probably win the final senate seat is called the “Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party”. They had 0.52% of the primary vote (half the number of wikileaks) and came in just ahead of the “sex party”
The new Prime Minister had his 3 adult daughters in attendance – all dressed in virginal white.
Oh dear! how long is the PM’s term – or is it one of these instances when a PM can call & schedule an election at any time.
you are headed in a sad, sad place – unless people see the light and rise up again
Outside of very rare events the term is a max of 3 years from when the new parliament first sits – the PM can decide on the date within that timeframe. Parliament can be dissolved at any time for a new election – few times has it been done outside of the 3 years.
I’m not sure yet what the senate figures will be. If the government does not have a majority in the senate that can stop some of their worst excesses.
It will be a hate on the poor government. They have promised some excessive expenditures which they will suddenly realise are untenable – after the wealthy have taken their cut. Like the GOP they claim fiscal conservationism but have low taxes – high spending.
99ts, what’s the difference between “virginal white” and plain white? By the way, my nephew, who lived in Australia for 25 years before he moved to New York is deeply disappointed by the results of your election. He thinks your new PM is almost as bad the GOP right wingers in this country. Is he right? What’s your take on your new PM?
Ahhhhhh – I just lost my reply – sigh
Your nephew is correct.
If you google Tony Abbott and his daughters you may see why the virginal white description. Three women in their 20s, all dressed in white to celebrate the election of their father is weird – but represents the sexist, women’s place in the home views of our new PM.
When I was young white was the color for 1st communion (RC), confirmation (Anglican), making one’s debut (rich & wannabe socialites), marriage – each of these being seen as appropriate behavior for virgins.
I cannot believe I was still following this “big thinker,” with her big brain.
@KatrinaNation You can barely send out a decipherable tweet, and yet you are a foreign policy expert. You're making a fool of yourself.— (@JOBoomr) September 08, 2013
To think that for years, I respected this woman? Seriously? I thought that she was one of those who clamoured for action in Syria? She was using the Libyan intervention…..screaming and questioning the difference between the two nations. Now she is sitting in her plush penthouse and she can afford to sit by while people are gassed by their own government?
Indeed Nena, she moves the goalposts – and thus has ZERO credibility. Hence my comment to her below.
Well said Nena! I was a devoted reader of the Nation Magazine, but I never regarded Katrina Vanden Heuvel as an intellectual powerhouse. I cancelled my subscription two years ago because of the Nation’s constant attacks on President Obama.
@KatrinaNation: Why not address the issue of why elected officials need to be 'lobbied or strong armed' into debating a topic objectively?— Vick C. (@sonamie) September 08, 2013
Yep @KatrinaNation, Assad *very* open to diplomacy, as he's shown by gassing his own internal opponents. You truly are an idiot.— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) September 08, 2013
Great response, Chipsticks! Yes she is an “Idiot” if she believes that the best way to respond to Assad’s use of chemical weapons to kill his people, including children, is through diplomacy. Does she even understand what diplomacy entails?
Excellent point Vc…
@KatrinaNation President has "credibility" with me. I can't say the same for the news media.— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) September 08, 2013
“President has “credibility” with me.”
Me too Africa! It’s Katrina’s Nation that has no credibility with me. I cancelled my subscription to the Nation magazine because it had degenerated into an emoprog propaganda machine focused on attacking and denigrating President Obama.
And like POTUS, Rafa is a Leftie too

BTW, SoS Kerry is elegant and powerful as he puts whiny Mrs Greenspan in her place and don’t think all the non-US (real) journalists in the room noticed ….
Bob, wasn’t Mrs. Greenspan something with her hostile criticism of the President, and the SoS John Kerry, that she disguised as a question? I guarantee you she would never have asked such a question, in the manner she did, to a Republican SoS. Where was she when millions of people worldwide held protest rallies against Bush’s planned invasion of Iraq? Does any one here remember her asking that question to SoS Powell?
You make your case so persuasively, Bobfr.
I think your patience and persistence will be rewarded.
On the other hand no reward would be too great for putting up with Craig Melvin and his Golf and Optics crap on TV today.
“On the other hand no reward would be too great for putting up with Craig Melvin and his Golf and Optics crap on TV today.”

Obama's credibility is certainly higher than that of @KatrinaNation or other media figures who move goalposts to suit their own agendas.— (@aspirational12) September 08, 2013
I knew I shouldn’t read anything from Katrina van bitch.
She is so completely OFFENSIVE. Can’t stand these emoprogs who constantly fish for click bait.
You know Hopefruit, a gifted writer needs to write a book focused on how during the Obama presidency most U.S. media figures, both left and right, were all united in using lies and propaganda to demonize and undermine President Obama. At 67, I don’t remember the media being this hostile towards a president; and mostly over made up stuff!
I’ve decided to try and remind people in general that our Commander in Chief isn’t a Johnny-come-lately to the issue of war, and WMDs, and taking a stand.

VC, you are absolutely incredible! I am so glad you are on twitter fighting a heroic effort to counter revisionist history propagated by the haters of President Obama.
TY Nathk. Are you on ‘the twitter machine’ too?
Not yet, VC! I am totally tech challenged. I just enjoy and learn so much from all the fierce TOD twitters who share their tweets with us.
Believe me when I tell you that I am an extremely tech challenged TODobot! If it wasn’t for being surrounded with so many experienced and patient techies I wouldn’t even BE on twitter. Resident techies plus a deep need to be involved with PBO were what got me onto twitter. You can do it. Ask Japa and Dudette who hesitated at first and are now having a ‘great’ twitter time.
The FLOTUS pic is new, right? Or did my eyes fool me again?
Yep, added it to the post Nena.
Oh, thank goodness. I thought I had missed it.

Progressive Insurance hiring 900-plus in 9 states
….Openings include IT, call center, analyst, legal, claims and corporate positions. The Mayfield Village, Ohio-based company said it offers paid training and flexible work arrangements, including working from home and compressed workweeks.
Many insurers are hiring to prepare for key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as they kick in.
Last month, State Farm held job fairs in Atlanta to fill up to 800 openings by the end of the year. The positions were mostly entry-level in claims, service and sales support functions. Other professional/technical level positions also were available….
New York Magazine on Saturday edited a quote that appeared in an interview with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in which he seemed to accuse Bill de Blasio, the Democratic frontrunner in the race to succeed him, of being a “racist.”
In the interview, Bloomberg described de Blasio’s campaign as “class-warfare and racist.” When questioned about his use of the word “racist” by New York Magazine writer Chris Smith, Bloomberg immediately said, “Well, no, no,” according to the latest version published by the magazine. Those three words were not included in the original version.
An editor’s note was added to the story to explain the change.

G’nite Nena. Sleep tite! Don’t let KatrinaNation bite!
Look what I found! lol
I’ve seen quite a few articles on the blue states advantage. One is marriage equality with LGBT couples moving to blue states. Another is ObamaCare
People living in states that back the Affordable Care Act will get substantial help unavailable to those in states that are fighting it.
Colorado residents shopping for health insurance next year will be able to compare health plans using a star system that ranks insurance companies on quality.
In Oregon and Maryland, consumers will save as much as 30% on some plans after state regulators forced insurers to lower 2014 premiums. Californians will get extra help selecting a health plan next year from a small army of community workers paid in part by foundations and the state.
As President Obama’s healthcare law rolls out next month, even supporters acknowledge there will be problems. But Americans who live in states backing the Affordable Care Act will receive substantial protections and assistance unavailable to residents in states still fighting the 2010 law. That could mean confusion and higher insurance premiums for millions of consumers in states resisting the law…..
Why is it that many are describing this potential air strike as a war ? When Clinton ordered air strikes against Iraq for UN violations, and air strikes on Bosnia and Sudan I don’t recall people calling them wars. Even though I was in middle school during the late 90′s I would follow the news and I don’t remember hearing from the vocal critics we hear today.
That seems purposeful to me—-also keep hearing proposed strikes as “going to war with Syria”. I hear the media frame it that way and see demonstrators with signs saying “No war with Syria!” That’s why people are so negative, imho—-they hear the word war and think Iraq and Afghanistan and years and years of war and they revolt.
Yep. I just can’t stand the double standards and lies.
‘Why is it that many are describing this potential air strike as a war?’
THIS is one of the main aspect of this that I’ve found annoying, Jziglar. The Obama principals talk repeatedly about ‘degrading’ Assad’s supplies or whatever and ‘deterring’ him from using CW in future, but MSM refuse to follow their lead, inserting their own incendiary terminology at every opportunity. US MSM disgust me, they really do.
Because “war” is more provocative.
I know. I know. Which is why it ticks me off. Listening to them I get the distinct impression they aren’t listening to a word he or his principals actually say. Their only reason for being present is to add ‘credibility’ to whatever garbage they come up with after. Grrrr!
These are frustrating times, for sure…
Frustrating partly because these jokers won’t do their jobs with integrity, but unusual times as well, because the best man for the CiC position is on the job.
You are absolutely right! We’re so lucky that President Obama has the helm. I can’t imagine where we’d be if anyone else had prevailed in 2008 or 2012! I don’t want to think about 2016…
You pose a very good question, Jziglar! I’ve been asking the same thing; and I was not “in middle school.” I was middle aged 53+ years- old-man. I was also in my late 30s and early 40′s when the GOP conservative Saint, Ronald Reagan, bombed Libya; and bombed Lebanon (resulting in the loss of over two hundred marines); and invaded tiny Grenada over some supposed threats to U.S. medical students studying in Grenada. I bet you very few people in the U.S. can find the tiny Island of Grenada on the map. Basically, Reagan invaded it because it had elected a supposedly Marxist Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop. It was also a predominantly black country. Then there is George H.W. Bush’s invasion of Panama to apprehend a Panamanian President, Manuel Noriega, who was formerly worked of the CIA, and was now now accused of being a drug dealing. Just think about that. It was perfectly acceptable for President Bush, Sr. to invade a sovereign country, and kill hundreds of people, just to apprehend the country’s President accused of drug dealing. Yet, President Obama is regarded as a despicable war monger for trying to hold accountable a dictator who violated International Law by gassing his people, killing thousands, including hundreds of children.
Most of the people criticizing President Obama’s proposed military strike on Syria are shameless liars and hypocrites. Their opposition has absolutely nothing to do with their interest in peace. Their main goal is to undermine and discredit President Obama. The biggest culprits in this Obama hate fest are the U.S. mainstream media. They are the ones promoting the propaganda about a Syrian war. I suspect that they are doing this partly to atone for the fact that they were the biggest cheerleaders for George W. Bush’s war on Iraq.
Worthy of your review:
So thoughtful, so introspective, so honest – I find myself eyes welling up with tears. This is an honorable man.

Great tweet, Meta! see my comment below.
Thank you so much Meta for re-sharing President Obama’s Nobel speech. This depth of his compassion and his honesty shines through. I dare any one to show me how President Obama has been inconsistent or betrayed what he promised to do. Even his current position on Syria is very consistent with what he said then; especially when he discussed the concept of a “Just War.”

And if we need further evidence that this is all about Obama Derangement Syndrome. Actors Ed Asner and Mike Farrell are calling Obama a warmonger and a corporatist. Blaming him for not closing Guantanamo and seeking diplomacy. And he said that some in Hollywood are afraid to challenge Obama because they don’t want to be viewed as anti- black.
I love how the talking points from the far right and the far left sound alike.
The woman whose book is titled, “What the matter with white people” is accusing others of not being deep? Ironic.

The Syrian army is believed to have tested missile systems for poison gas shells at the end of August, statements from various witnesses indicate.
The tests took place near a chemical weapons research center at Safira east of Aleppo, witnesses told SPIEGEL. A total of five or six empty shells devised for delivering chemical agents were fired by tanks and aircraft, at a site called Diraiham in the desert near the village of Khanasir.
Iranian officers believed to be members of the Revolutionary Guards were flown in by helicopter for the testing, according to the statements.
The Safira research center is regarded as Syria’s largest testing site for chemical weapons. It is officially referred to as a “scientific research center.”
Hoping for US Troops
Scientists from Iran and North Korea are said to work in the expansive, fenced-off complex. According to Western intelligence agencies, they produce chemical agents such as sarin, tabun and mustard gas and test them on animals.
In recent months, the guards have been replaced and reinforced by more than 100 elite troops from the 4th Tank Division. In addition, power generators and large supplies of diesel have recently been brought to the plant to safeguard the supply of electricity in the event of an attack by rebels, reports say.
Anyone watched the news this evening? did the other news outlets show or reference the Syrian sarin gas attack that CNN showed earlier today?
I could not watch them (had already seen enough evidence of the carnage);
but there may be some people who are not political junkies who believe the claims of some members of congress that they did not get “any strong evidence”
