White House Live * Everywhere
Everyone should know by now that 1 of #PBO's most reliable strategic tools is he can count on US #MSM & #GOP to always distract cc @VP @vj44— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 11, 2013
Congrats! Good leaning-on-the-door job!
Was posting at the bottom of the previous thread …. where I often seem to be …. and suddenly noticed the door opening
I don’t blame you, Bobfr. When the Lord opens a door, you’ve got to step right in!
He learned from the master:) Or is “learnt”?? Can’t WAIT for my President to speak!
Desertf! You are back and ready to take your seat! Okay, I’ll move over a bit … there, make yourself comfortable.
Thank you, lovey! Right next to my vc:)
Happy! Happy! Okay, Mr. Pres we here are all ready, even the nervous obots.
I’m not nervous. He’s got this!
Oops! I forgot Dudette and GGail are still on the way home. You can walk slowly Mr. P, there’s no rush. / Phew! wouldn’t want those two to be mad at me because I encouraged PBO to start earlier than expected./
Wonder if Amk will be able to see it live?
I’m home!!!!!, scoot over vc, & df
Good. What a relief!
Hi, GGail! Ready???
Hi df, I’m listening closely with PRIDE
And yardarm…stuck in the N. woods!
Maybe YA will still be able to follow from the north. After all this is a little more than normal TV.
Hey darl’n …. just loved the story about your father & that you brought Danny to all of us on this special day!!! Thank you!!!
Ah, thank you Bob, ‘Danny’ is just perfect!
Danny is adorable Chips. You’re gonna make a great pup-mommy!
Congrats on the new addition to the family…Danny…I like it..
Ms, Chips, Congrats again on adding Danny to the family. It looks like Danny is a beautiful Black Lab?
Late with this…but Congratulations on your new puppy – Danny!
You will have lots of fun with him (including cleaning poop) – Sorry for that image!
Ha, thank you Marlz, the first three-ish months of my life after he arrives will, I suspect, be poop-scooping-a-arama!!!
I love this man.
me too meta.
I, as well.
This entire Presidency has been like one amazing saga of a movie.. I swear I will absolutely hate when it ends.
I’ve basically tuned out the negative nellies over the last week because I refuse to allow the media to manipulate my emotions over this issue. I have had complete trust in President Obama through this entire ordeal. I have watched this man govern our Nation through think and thin and honestly I really believe that he ALWAYS has this countries BEST interests at heart. I consider myself a dove when it comes to war but we are really fortunate to have PBO as our Commander-In-Chief during these volatile times in the middle east and Northern Africa. He is the master of diplomacy. All the cable chatter in the world cannot change my positive feelings about PBO’s leadership qualities. I’ve Got His Back!!!
Beautifully stated Donna. Agree 1000%
“All the cable chatter in the world cannot change my positive feelings about PBO’s leadership qualities. I’ve Got His Back!!!”
At your side, Donna. Well said!!
Yes We Can
You speak for me, Lady DD. TY
Same here. And everyone I’ve talked with has been doing/saying the same. Media has done this everytime. I’m off their little merry-go-round. I decided I’ll just #TrustBarack
You speak for me too Donna!
You will probably notice I am reading and responding on this old blog post instead of the current one. I am way behind the time curve here basically out of some sort of inner fear, not about what PBO will say in his speech, but about how it will be received. I have been purposely avoiding the media for more than a week now due to their blaming game and unprecedented negativity to the Syrian crisis. I have relied on this site for my news take.
I have pretty much unconditionally supported PBO since before he decided to run for the presidency. I am proud of how hard he has worked for us and ashamed of how the media has portrayed him. This morning I had turned on NPR for the news and had to turn it off immediately when I heard they too were presenting a view against PBO instead of neutral facts. I set my TiVo to record his speech, but came here first to read the outcome before actually watching it. I am reading on now, but want to thank Chips for the site!
I agree completely. In fact, I have also tuned out. I have only watched a litter since last Wed. I was just disgusted, even with some of my favorites. The only person whose opinion really matters is PBO. When he speaks, I listen. If the MSM actually LISTENED to what he says, maybe their commentary would be more coherent.
They mock him and then demand that he take the steps he has already outlined, while ignoring the fact that he outlined them. I am totally disgusted. They don’t deserve him, but we certainly do.
From an outside viewpoint – this is quite amazing to watch – No GOP administration would ever have given Syria time to admit it had the weapons – and hand them over.
The media and the GOP are fighting hard to stop this looking like a big win for the President – they have not a clue what he might say this evening.
yes they are
Diplomacy works because it’s mostly done in secret. What part of that does the MSM not understand? Where are the grown-ups?
It’s go time.
Is anybody arching MSNBC? The have their usual panel on. I have the volume all the way down, because I don’t want to hear them bashing or second-guessing the president. It’s shame too; I remember when I couldn’t wait turn on MSNBC to hear about the president. Now, I have to be very careful.
Why give them the ratings? Chris Hayes and Rachel are hosting so it can only devolve into an Obama Bash…Right??
Will only watch via whitehouse.gov or CSPAN. Will never give those #NEWSTAINMENT sites any traffic in situations like this.
PBS NewsHour. Cut to mute as soon as the conjecture began! Usually I just walk away by now, but decided I will stay to see the credits tonight (if they show them). One of my brothers is stage manager at WETA!
Never had cable in the 24 years since I returned to the USA! kinda proud of that!!
cspan the after he speaks it ‘click’
I watched the speech then turned to NCIS, more interesting than the pundits. Didn’t want to shout at my tv.
I watched, but had to mute chris matthews. I turned to C-span for the speech. Rachel seemed to be trying to moderate like an adult, so I’ll give her a few props.
Here's a way to find out what the president is going to say: WATCH THE SPEECH. #punditfail— Spandan Chakrabarti (@thepeoplesview) September 11, 2013
Donna, I echo this great comment. It certainly opened my eyes to the people that have an agenda, and it’s not to better the nation, but their own pockets.
Exactly, which is why they don’t get even a nanosecond of my viewing time.
@washingtonpost How do they know?— Perseus (@jovie131_mike) September 11, 2013
Chris Matthews is an idiot. He hasn’t tried to reach out to Congress ? He hasn’t tried to reach out to Putin ??? Americans have stopped listening to him ? Please !
Chris Matthews is becoming more irrelevant by the day. He has been irrelevant to me for a few years now. Can’t watch him.
Didn’t watch Matthews but will send him this tweet.
As POTUS heads to hill today, admin has now had #Syria discussions with at least 93 Senators and more than 350 House members— Matt Lehrich (@Lehrich44) September 10, 2013
He doesn’t make any sense. People say he’s “bipolar”. Frankly, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s simply that he and his producers are doing theatre. Pure and simple bullshit theatre. Just playing hot and cold, in order to create some ratings, and keep all sorts of viewers interested. I don’t know.
Any second…WH’gov on
It’s on right now.
Listening with a proud heart to PBO!!
POTUS is painting the picture of the events and educating at the same time.
“The United States Military doesn’t do pinpricks”
“United States military doesn’t do pinpricks”
Thank you, Mr. President. I’m glad I lived long enough to see a true statesman carry our country forward.
Right there with you, Lynn! Our President makes us all glad to be alive!
I’m watching on PBS. As soon as the speech is over, tv goes off. I don’t need to hear mindless pundits. I’d much rather read the thoughts of the TOD family.
That’s the Leader of the free World!
And the TV goes to the US – Mexico match.
He made a compelling case for action. I stand with our President!!
Rats! WH.gov cut it off before I could watch his walk back down the corridor. Grrrrrr!
C-Span showed him until he disappeared through that door. I have the entire speech recorded. He did not disappoint.
COS, for some reason I couldn’t access c-span tonight, but I got it on WH.GOV with a couple of glitches here and there. Not sure why my wi-fi was acting up.
Humanitarian and world leader!
that is what PBO is
Is it me or did PBO basically say that both the Left and Right suck as human beings?
YES, and he is right.
That’s a cogent summary, LL.
That’s what I heard. Right again.
A bit of hyperbole LL ha ha. ha … No doubt President Obama is frustrated with the ideologues, but he didn’t attack them as people, he asked them, respectfully, to confront their own contradictions. Never forget who his heroes are: Ghandi, Mandela. Men who fought hard for their beliefs but men of reconciliation, men who refuse to degrade any human being.
Maybe I’m a bit “dense”, but I would prefer to avoid saying that PBO thinks that so and so “suck” as human beings.
Ah, but remember the Mahatma’s cutting remark: “”I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
yes he did
And GOD Bless President Obama.
And he spoke slow enough and clear enough so even Rand & company could understand his words and hear the meaning behind the words.
Oh how I love President Barack Obama!
Dear Mr President, with humility & resolve you are serving humanity & America like very few ever have. Thank you. cc @VP @vj44 @FLOTUS @OFA— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 11, 2013
I watched at WH.gov. Wasn’t gonna give the pinheads any ratings. I’ve avoided them for quite some time now and I’m gonna keep on, keeping on
Have been doing the same, Lisa!
I’m definitely not watching them, especially to night.
Watched from desk at work. 17 minutes of breaking it down like a fraction. This is not a game. No drama, no hyperbole, just speaking it plain. I do so love my President and am glad that he is the President for this moment to guide the world through this with steady hand and heart.
I did the same purpleshoes and a co-worker even joined me. I feel exactly the same way as you and I STAND WITH THE PRESIDENT!!
Yep- no “axis of evil” BS.. just the facts, which is why he is so awesome.
PBO did everything he needed to do. I’m so proud of him. I know he is in such a difficult position but he is so impressively decisive and clear. BRAVO.
Dear pundits: I'd rather watch a World Cup qualifier than you. Because you're awful, and football isn't. xoxoxo LL— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) September 11, 2013
I missed the first eight minutes. I clicked to watch it here and all it showed was a still picture with the clock moving; when I decided to go to the whitehouse site.
Chirs matthews is an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He started his show today with stupid commentary. i turned off his stupidity.
i am sick to death of the MSM.
They all need to SHUT THE FUCk UP
My President is totally AWESOME.
i watched C-Span.
I watched a local station, which went to “Family Feud” right afterwards.
Ha! So much better for your sanity.
Thank you President Obama, for your courage, your determination and your faith in the American people. I hope we are worthy of your trust.
PBO is asking for our morality & trusting humanity of the country the same way he did when he trusted voters to judge him by the content of his character & policy stands
Sober and dignified. Listening to him, I had three words in my mind: “maintaining the pressure”. The last couple of days have been encouraging, but there is still some hard work to do.
Those who call this man naïve don’t get it. At all.
Those who call him weak don’t get it. At all.
He’s the epitome of leadership. REAL leadership. Not chest pumping, bullying, and cheap political theatre. Media and critics, when will you GET IT ?
Perfectly stated LovePolitics. He is all that… and they will never ‘get him’.
Absolutely. A leader I can finally respect.
Two words–Long Game. ’nuff said.
Wasn’t able to watch, just got online so looking at twitter comments. Many positive, some neutral and of course a few idiots. Then there are the ones that combine positive with idiocy, which of course I have to respond to:
@NicholsUprising @tshare26 You do realize he has done that throughout. What is progress is that Russia and Syria have responded to it.— john miller (@deaconmill) September 11, 2013
@NicholsUprising No. #PBO has been pursuing removal of CW from Syria for past year. Assad gassed his people. #PBO escalated. #Assad blinked— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 11, 2013
And there lies part of the problem. So many believe that the President’s immediate (and only ) response was a call for military action. There seems to be little or no awareness that a diplomatic approach has been ongoing for a period of time.
Of course our cracker jack media helps to promote that perception.
This is something I never understand. PBO is all about working with the international community. The MSM has selective amnesia. I am mystified by their inability to recognize PBO’s consistency. I guess true history can’t compete with daily talking points.
Turned off tv as soon as the president finished. He did what he was supposed to do, broke it down, step by step, and appealed all that is decent in us. I don’t know how much decency is left in this country, but I am glad we have a president who models wisdom,a sense of justice, and a firm resolve. Things will work out well, no matter what the MSM, the right and anybody else say. I trust this man.
Spot on, Eve. I turned off the yappers. They add nothing. Our CIC said it all.
I found myself crying. That man never ceases to amaze me. His honesty and honor are always moving.
I'm fairly confident diplomacy will work at this point. And I'm not spending hours arguing about this with random people on the internet.— Imani ABL (@AngryBlackLady) September 11, 2013

As usual, he opened by teaching, which so many need. Then he dealt with the commonly heard questions. Once again, “No drama Obama” Clear, concise, concrete, convincing. Thank you POB.
We turned to wrestling, if you can imagine it…..will not listen to ANY pundits or call-ins.
Not soccer?! The US is 20 minutes away from booking a ticket to Brazil!
I CANNOT believe you were so insensitive to mention Brazil in light of Ireland’s Rio dreams sinking miserably tonight.
The world goes on, love. And your Danny will get a poem from me.

Lol. These supposedly learned communicators are unbelievably disingenuous. Turn them all off, spread the word. There are much sources of information. Thank goodness for Internet, on the ground reporting, your own intelligence etc…
Proud of PBO as well, as always. And, on another note, I have to say that the President’s eyes looked particularly gorgeous tonight!
Yes, I noticed that, too, ouapiti. We can’t let these things go unnoticed, despite the seriousness of the moment…

Darn AJA has usual CNN odd suspects. Will try 2 watch their Town Hall. Uggh gotta switch it off. Geez how clear does PBO have 2 be?
I have had some relatively good natured back and forth with this individual on twitter, She has always been a strong PBO supporter but has been adamantly against any strike on Syria. After the speech she tweeted:
"If we ignore the CW attack, we allow the law that protect our men in the military from being gassed to erode"~ @BarackObama U convinced me!— ProudLiberal (@EdieVP) September 11, 2013
I confirmed she was serious. She has changed her mind. If this impacted someone who was strongly against, imagine the on the fencers. BTW, she has a nephew who was in the military and was exposed to chemical weapons, so that particular argument resonated with her.
Thanks for sharing Japa. Perhaps you can show her tweet to David Corn, who smugly asked whether PBO changed anyone’s mind….
For me this has always been an essential. If we didn’t respond we were saying to our folks who protect us everyday…”Too bad, you’re on your own, because now you are vulnerable to chemical weapons attacks at any time.”
Thank you President Obama. You made it clear and simple that even a Republican could understand.
We benefit greatly from your courage, intellect and savvy. For that I am grateful. May you be blessed always.
Has there ever been a time when a President went to Congress for authorization for military action that he was denied??

Awesome statement – and so true.
I’m not listening to any commentary, but I thought this was a very important point—–that a global audience was also a target of PBO’s speech, namely Russia—-the pressure of a military response must remain for any hope of a diplomatic solution.
Commentators are missing that 1 of Obama's audiences was Russia. He needs to continue threats to sustain leverage for a deal.— Nicholas Kristof (@NickKristof) September 11, 2013
And with that I’m going to go do something mindless~
Thank you Mr. President… pretty soon we will have to invent new words to describe your extreme awesomeness.
Have a lovely evening all
I missed most of his speech but saw the last few minutes. I then moved to a local station and heard a repub from Az say that we “stumbled” on a solution. You just can’t get away from these jackals.
The horrors of the trenches/gas attacks in WW! was the impetus for global rejection. Our President has made his case. I stand with our President.
