    More Benghazi hearings coming.

The leaders of an independent review board that investigated last year’s deadly assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, will testify at a House hearing next week.

Retired Adm. Mike Mullen and former Ambassador Thomas Pickering will appear before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Sept. 19.

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa of California announced the hearing in a statement Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

I hope this is an open hearing because Issa refused to allow Pickering to testify where we could watch last time.

Kitty care, birdbaths, tea, TOD, breakfast shortly! It is going to be a hot one today, I think hotter than any summer we day we have had so far.. Very strange. Up early to open the house for the cool air to come in, east facing window drapes closed all morning as the room heat up too too fast! Hmm, maybe that sounds odd, but I think we Seattleites like the cool!! (this one does)!

It’s hot here today too. I’ve had the fan running most of last night and pretty much non-stop all morning, which is unusual. I actually planned to move a few (boxes of) papers around today, as in sorting through them and shredding, etc but gave up after lifting a handful of sheets and starting to sweat. No kidding! Of course I could have turned on the fan in the room in question but it was easier to leave the task for another day and sign on to TOD instead. Funny, I never sweat when in the village! ;) ;)

I like the combination of words…..”diligent…cool and collected”…..diligent they certainly weren’t before 9/11, as we now know, and cool and collected they certainly were not after. What I remember mostly about that time is the absolute hysteria that engulfed the country, and the chauvinistic “patriotism” that took hold.

I also remember GWB on the rubble pile….the “cheerleader-in-chief” Whatever his positive rating was at that time, no one called me! I never trusted him, and did not have any use for him.
I live in the state next to him, and knew too much about him to ever have any use for him.

That was just an excruciating time, and GWB’s solution was to tell us to “go shopping” while the poorest 2% of the country bore the brunt in the armed services with their deaths and injuries.

Hi all. I know it is a humongous newsday but 57&female highlighted an important vote that took place last night on the last thread.
The great state of Colorado voted out of office two people who supported gun control legislation.
ONLY 17.5% of registered Democrats bothered to vote!!!!
If this isn’t a wake-up call please tell me what will it take to get Democrats off their asses???

    • 25 57andfemale
      September 11, 2013 at 11:55 am

I think this is an important issue. I don’t have a huge Twitter presence but I’m tweeting this like crazy. I’m sick to death of Dem’s who can’t bother to vote and then whine about the state of things.

We have always been the majority. We cede more and more power to more and more loons, letting small percentages of Americans turn this country on its ear. We can complain about voting rights being taken away, but the systemic issue is that not enough Dem’s take advantage of their voting rights now.

      17.25% turnout is an outrage.

Yes. Thompson will lose eventually but apparently isn’t ready to give up yet.
He’s a decent guy with zero political skills. In 2009 against Bloomberg he lay down and played dead for the last weeks of the campaign. When those results were tallied Thompson came within 4% of Bloomberg. What would the result have been had he tried to win????

This year he campaigned and marched with former Senator Al D’Amato a Republican. WTF???

Thompson is the old guy establishment candidate that New Yorkers emphatically rejected last night.

Maher has always claimed to be a libertarian. The white male libertarian types seem to be abandoning the Dems and PBO since the President got them gay rights/gay marriage. Once they got what they wanted, they now feel free to let their inner Tea Partier out for the world to see.

But yet, far too many supporters of this President tune in when he airs just in case he might decide to say something positive. All these shows and their hosts that are notorious for showing continued disrespect toward PBO should be ostracized IMO. One can disagree without being disagreeable. We should not be rewarding them with ratings for their outrageous behavior. He crosses the line practically every week and I’ve rarely ever thought that he was funny.

Spoken like a true attention whore. Surprised by the use of “Barry”. Funny how similar the Tea Party set and the PL/Libertarians are now even using, the same terminology to disrespect PBO. His show will suffer the same ratings drop MSNBC is experiencing if he continues with the PBO bashing.

Which is strange because Carter lost to Reagan mainly because Carter was widely viewed as WEAK in terms of foreign policy. The Iranian hostage crisis was a huge embarrassment and really did make the U.S. look weak. Carter should have Paula Deen make him some lunch and stop the backseat driving. He seem to be trying to do to PBO what Teddy Kennedy did to him.

BuzzFeed reported Wednesday that IAC, the Daily Beast’s parent company, does not plan to renew Tina Brown’s contract when it expires in January.

A source familiar with the situation told BuzzFeed’s Peter Lauria that Brown and the company have agreed to go their separate ways, and that a severance agreement is currently being worked out.

The future of the Daily Beast, Lauria reported, is up in the air. The website could either be sold, closed or continue to run under a new editor. A spokesperson for IAC declined to comment.

Lauria’s report comes a month after IAC sold Newsweek to IBT Media, the publishers of the International Business Times.

Since Anthony Weiner stopped bashing PBO 24/7, MSNBC has decided that it no longer has any use for him. Am I remembering correctly? Right before Bush invaded Iraq, didn’t Saddam cave and say he would give unfettered access to anyone and everything to prove he didn’t have WMD, and Bush said, “Too late. We’re going to bomb the s*** out of you because I want to?” Okay, I paraphrase. But the ‘too late’ part – I swear that happened.

Am I delusional? Will I also need Alzheimer’s tests when I finally get decent insurance under Obamacare?

    • 122 japa21
      September 11, 2013 at 2:27 pm

Actually, he had allowed inspectors in, they found nothing, Saddam offered even fuller cooperation, Bush said no and bombed the you know what out of Iraq and then sent in the troops. There was nothing Saddam could have done that would have prevented the war. Bush set him up by giving him an impossible task, prove a negative. Can’t be done.

Been thinking about the criticism from left and right, and how the President and VPresident just keep forging ahead, and I have come to one conclusion. These people are mad because neither of them can be bought. They are truly as incorruptible as any leaders I have seen, and this just angers many people. The President can’t be bought by Maher’s million dollars, or Halliburton’s billions, or Google, or Goldman Sachs, or Wal Mart, or anyone. This is not what these corporatists and entertainers are used to. Maher thinks he owns the president for a million dollars, NO ONE owns this president.
Obviously VPOTUS hasn’t profited from his long Senate career…..he’s not one of the wealthiest people in Congress, like others we could name. McConnell is furious because his cash cow of Senate leadership may be drying up…..
None of the owners of media outlets…. think of the wide range, internet, TV, print own him…..he confounds all of them and is not beholden to any of them. They are writhing in frustration, so the manifestation is all the nasty hate talk. Meanwhile, he just goes about his business for the American people. Frankly, they are not used to that.
We know Boehner and Cantor are bought and paid for, as are many others.
One word about Carter….He had to wait a long time for his Nobel Peace Prize, and PBO won his in the first year of his presidency. That has to smart.
