Once again, New Jersey is seeking Federal Government money…
New Jersey Congressman Jon Runyan, a Republican, has sought federal dollars to pay for the recovery effort in his district, reaching out to Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of House and Urban Development, said spokesperson Stacy Barton.
Almost first…happy weekend to all going to catch up now
LP, some of those are REALLY funny :D:
Look at you, GGail, dancing around on the stage! Pretty moves.
How ’bout that :D:
Take a few minutes to read and pass this along……. very cogent, compelling, and well articulated case for action
The most common objection to strikes is that the United States is not the world’s policeman; we have poured our resources and blood into two long wars over the past decade, and it’s time for someone else to take care of those duties. That is a very tempting position, but it does not hold water. The reality is that we have staked our military and economic security on making sure that no other country — including our longtime allies — has anywhere close to the military capabilities that we do. We are safe in our borders because we are the only country that can park a ship in international waters and rain cruise missiles down on specific street addresses in a foreign city for weeks on end. And we enjoy extraordinary wealth because our foreign trade and oil imports are protected by the world’s most powerful navy. I find it almost offensive that anyone in this country could imagine they are truly pacifist while accepting the protection and benefit of all that armament. If you have a bumper sticker that says “No Blood For Oil,” it had better be on your bike…..
Finally, there is the problem — the pacifist problem — of having no effective response to the use of nerve gas by a government against its citizens. To one degree or another, every person has an obligation to uphold human dignity in whatever small way he or she can. It is this concept of dignity that has given rise to international laws protecting human rights, to campaigns for prison reform, to boycotts against apartheid. In this context, doing nothing in the face of evil becomes the equivalent of actively supporting evil; morally speaking, there is no middle ground…..
President Obama is not arguing for an action that decimates the Assad regime and allows rebel forces to take over. He is not saying that we are going to put our troops at risk on the ground in Syria, or that it will be a long and costly endeavor, or even that it will be particularly effective. He is saying that he does not want us to live in a world where nerve gas can be used against civilians without consequences of any kind. If killing 1,400 people with nerve gas is okay, then killing 14,000 becomes imaginable. When we have gotten used to that, killing 14 million may be next.

At some point, pacifism becomes part of the machinery of death, and isolationism becomes a form of genocide. It’s not a matter of how we’re going to explain this to the Syrians. It’s a matter of how we’re going to explain this to our kids.
Great read! Thanks LP for sharing it. I loved the toons too. Laughter is always good for the soul

Is anybody here still watching “The Newsroom?” Last weeks episode where Sam Waterston’s character yelled that without credibility a news channel has nothing made me think he was directing his remarks to CNN.
You remember—CNN who “reported” on dark skinned guys wearing hoodies after Boston and who “reported” on SCOTUS overturning the ACA.
CNN ? I haven’t turned them on for a second in months.
CNN is a joke. The shame is that so many people still look to CNN for news. A friend of mine believes she’s informed because she gets her news from CNN. Even Randi Rhodes watches CNN for news. Unfortunately, there’s no news to be found at CNN.

These NRA gun nuts are crazy people. Two guys decide to stroll into the downtown farmers market in Appleton, Wi. with AK-47 assault rifles strapped on their backs and handguns on their waists—–to prove a point, or something—-dangerously harassing the public, I would call it. Police were called by frightened citizens there with their families, who briefly detained the 2 nutballs. Now the 2 goofballs are thinking about suing. I detest these people. There’s something wrong with them—–not normal behavior, this obsession with guns above all else.
What makes these gun nuts believe that the general public are supposed to be able to discern between a crazed gunman intent on killing, versus a gun nut,who happens to be a stranger carrying a weapon out in the open where kids are present – a tool whose only purpose is to kill. I don’t want a gun nut protecting me with his gun – I look to the police to do that. They’re trained and it’s their job!

What many people aren’t aware of is that the same munitions are linked to at least one previous chemical attack. Earlier on August 5th, two areas of Damascus, Douma and Adra, were hit by an alleged chemical attack, with around 400 victims reported injured in Douma, and at least a couple of dozen in Adra. I’ve collected videos from the attack here, and the following video with English subtitles has one of the victims explaining what happen in Adra

If the UN report does point towards these munitions being used to deliver the chemical agent, then it seems to strongly suggest the August 5th attack was also a chemical attack using the same type of munition, and might put previous alleged chemical attacks in the Damascus area in a new light.

This is the kind of junk that is going on. 30 govt. employees in Lake Co., In. got notices that their jobs were being terminated as of Sept. 30 because of—–yup, Obamacare. I responded to @areyou0 of this fact, and @areyou0 blocked me and called me a troll. LOL.
Just FYI, in case any TODers follow @areyou0 “Democrat for Obama” is her ludicrous “name.” @areyou0 is probably the same person as Chips’ threatening and plagiarizing stalker.

I don’t believe they are the same person. “Obamacrat” was more personally insulting and extremely misogynistic. Areyou0 is arrogant and will block anyone who he/she feels challenges him/her in any way.
He’s no Democrat. I blocked him after the Trayvon verdict, where he went on a Twitter rant praising the verdict.
Arapaho415, you’re very protective and kind!!
Just to let you know, I and a bunch of people blocked @areyou0 after his/her bizarre and offensive pro-Zimmerman tweets the day of the verdict, including this one which s/he later deleted. I suspect @areyou0 is not quite as ‘blue’ as the creature makes out.

Tiger is in another rules dispute in the BMW tournament he’s currently playing in Lake Forest, Il. He received a 2 shot penalty when someone turned in a video of his ball moving when Tiger moved some twigs from behind the ball, which is allowed. Tiger said the ball only “oscillated” which must be within the rules—-I’m assuming Tiger knows them well. But—–are people hiding in the bushes taping Tiger’s every twitch? Didn’t something similar happen previously—-when someone turned in a vid? We here at my house believe that some people (hater types) are exhausting themselves in trying to find something—-anything—-to harm Tiger—–a la Obama.
RT @AP_Sports: Tiger Woods in another rules dispute, gets 2shot penalty from video evidence at BMW apne.ws/18Ypbpd (@dougferguson405)— The Associated Press (@AP) September 13, 2013
Ooooooh no, not again Dotster??
“….. are people hiding in the bushes taping Tiger’s every twitch?”
I suspect so.
Wasn’t it a viewer who reported him last time?
That isn’t uncommon. Tiger isn’t being singled out here.
I know golf is a stickler for rules, and plenty of other players have fallen foul of them, but I always sense there’s a little more excitement (glee?) in the golfing world when he is judged to have broken one. But, that’s probably just because of his standing.
Still, I always think back to when Colin Montgomerie cheated in a tournament in Asia a few years back, and got away with it. And was later appointed to European golf’s disciplinary panel where he was one of the guys who dished out a lengthy ban to a British golfer for doing pretty much what he did. And then he was Ryder Cup captain, and now has a tasty TV job as a golf pundit. Funny old game, riddled with hypocrisy and double standards.
Explination of what apparently happened http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golftalkcentral/penalty-drops-woods-to-72-in-second-round/
Woods did not speak to reporters when he left the scoring trailer. Just before he walked out the door, a loud bang was heard, as if someone had punched or kicked a wall.
NP, I’m to pissed about the whole situation……. this might not be a big deal, but there are only 2 Fedex tournaments left. Tiger is currently in 2nd. If you are in the Top 5 going into the last tournament, and win the final tournament…. you win 10 million dollars. So they are really trying to screw him bad.
Golf is a predominately white sport, both among players and viewers. Tiger was great for business, and he served the “but our best player is black”, to detract from the fact that he was pretty much it as far as black players in the top tier went. And, sad to say, for many years Tiger downplayed any responsibility he had to bring more minority players up to the top ranks. He was purely apolitical, following Michael Jordan’s dictum that “Republicans by sneakers too.”
But I think that when he appeared at PBO’s first inaugural, his first overtly political act, things started to change. Now he was just another uppity n*****, marrying a white woman, supporting someone who should have never even been allowed to run for President, much less elected. You should read the vile things written on Yahoo Sports on any Tiger Woods post. Tiger went from proving “gee we’re all post racial” to “see, you can’t trust any of them.”
Oh, you said it LL, you said it.
I never found him a particularly likeable character, but as a sportsman there were/are few more utterly brilliant. And any way, I’d forgive him any personal defects in light of the utterly screwed up childhood he had with a father who should probably have been jailed for his treatment of him.
The GOP re-elect anyone who leaves their job due to an extra marital relationship – but they have to have skin of the right color. Tiger is treated this way because – Obama.
Jovie, how’s your dog doing? Is she getting stronger?
Looking at the tunes – I think the real, unchangeable difference between Democrats and republicans is shown in the recyling toon. The GOP are perfectly happy to re-elect anyone – the dems are not.
