Not a fan of Bill Maher by any means but I’ll have to give him a thumbs up on this one:

“Black-track,’” defined as, “The act of changing one’s mind because President Obama has agreed with you. See also: ‘Pulling a one-hatey,’ or the ‘Kenyan boomerang.’”

His show was good last night. Don’t agree with Maher about everything—-altho I don’t agree with ANYONE about everything—–but I agree with much of what he has to say—-and even tho he can get on PBO about some issues, he always gives him his due re. his accomplishments—-sometimes belatedly but at least he does.

NEW YORK — A New Jersey-based newspaper publisher is suing Sarah Palin and her political action committee for copyright infringement over the use of an iconic Sept. 11 photograph.

A lawsuit filed Friday in Manhattan federal court by North Jersey Media Group Inc. says Palin’s SarahPAC posted a copy of the photo on its website and Facebook page without permission.

The photo depicts three New York City firefighters hoisting an American flag among the rubble at the World Trade Center after the attacks.

Arlington, Virginia-based SarahPAC did not respond to a message for comment.

The lawsuit asks the court to stop SarahPAC from using the picture. It also seeks damages.

NJMG publishes The Record and Herald News newspapers plus 40 weekly community papers, twelve magazines and two websites.

Kerry on his way to Israel. I would not be surprised if we get peace and two states prior to 2017. With the ME so crazy now I think Israel has more incentive to reach an agreement and it’s something a hawk like Netanyahu could pull off (think Nixon opening to China). PBO has put together a great team.

    • 37 Don
      September 14, 2013 at 11:05 am

Trust me; Netanyahu is going to get his ass in line this time. The world knows that President Obama is an honest broker, and I don’t think that any leader of any country wants to be seen as someone that can’t work with President Obama.

As a Jew and a supporter of Israel, I concur, taiping. We WILL see peace in the ME, and Bibi will just have to suck it up and go with the President. My hope to is that the Palestinian people hold their own leaders accountable for what their people have had to live with. They can’t blame Israel for all their problems, they need to see that their leaders have done to them what our “leaders” have done to our own low-information voters.

I’m almost giddy with excitement over this Syria deal. I’m old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis, and how we all lived on edge then. I worked in D.C. and Senate staff members were talking about buying land in Montana to hide…..people drank their lunches….then, the President and Adlai Stevenson brought us through. I remember President Kennedy’s address to the nation afterwards, and my dad, who had been a staunch Nixon supporter, said “He’ll make it. He’s done well.” Wish we could hear some of that kind of talk now.
Thanks to all of you TOD warriors for your twitter work, and also for the info I got when I opened up today.
Thanks to President Obama and SOS Kerry, without whom this would not have happened. They are a formidable team.

President Obama got the Russians to engage in diplomacy, Syria to agree to give up its CW and best of all, the repubs to be the anti-war, anti-military party. Finally, the repubs can stop calling the Democratic party “weak on defense.”

President Obama has taken away the repub party’s hold on national defense. Now the Democratic Party is the party that is strong on defense and national security. He did it by taking out OBL, ending the war in Iraq, and getting Putin to beg the US not to attack it’s ally, Syria.

When has a Russian president ever bowed in fear to the US, by writing an article essentially appealing to the American people to “please don’t attack?” HAH!

    • September 14, 2013 at 12:28 pm

It’s more that there was a perception that the GOP was stronger on national defense. I think reality proves that wrong. The GOP are strong on the military industrial complex, but that has little to do with national defense – particularly since many of those contracts run way over budget, and produce military equipment that doesn’t even work, or is never used! The only thing the GOP has been successful at is hoodwinking the American electorate into thinking that they are working for the people and their security – when they’re really only working for a greedy few, and charging everything to the people they’re supposed to serve. For half a century, the GOP have been very successful at this and nothing else. There’s nothing they can point to that has helped America and been sustaining. Nothing.

    GM TOD…..

The United States and Russia have reached a deal on a framework for removing all of Syria’s chemical weapons by mid-2014, Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in Geneva Saturday. Under the framework agreed after three days of negotiations in Geneva, Syria would declare all of its chemical weapons sites within seven days, allow inspectors on the ground and access to any site by November, and the removal of the weapons from Syria for destruction by mid-2014. .

“The world will now expect the Assad regime to live up to its public commitment,” Kerry told a packed news conference in the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva Saturday, the Associated Press reports. “There can be no games, no room for avoidance, or anything less than full compliance by the Assad regime.” “We have committed to a standard that says, verify and verify,” Kerry said.

The framework would mandate the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to report on Syrian compliance or noncompliance with the agreed measures to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions, under Chapter 7 of the UN charter.

“In the event of non-compliance, including unauthorized transfer, or any use of chemical weapons by anyone in Syria, the UN Security Council should impose measures under Chapter VII of the UN Charter,” the framework states.

I think Gwen’s tweet is great. She is holding the media and critics accountable. Essentially she’s saying that The POTUS and Kerry were being skewered by the media on Syria. Now that it turns out that their judgments were right, will they get the credit they deserve or will all of their critics move on without acknowledging their success.

      What a fantastic day, Chips!!!

I had posted this late last night. Given reactions to the stunning success by our President, Secretary of State and National Security team, it is something many on the left and right need to reflect. I don’t ever expect President Obama to speak to the issue – we know how assiduously he has avoided doing so because it would distract from his endless pursuit of a more perfect Union. But, each of us has a responsibility to him and that Union to confront blatant, incessant racism.

      13 Sept 2013

      Dear Mr President,

No more stark a reality could ever have been imagined than a US President confronting a mass murderer who used internationally banned chemical WMD to kill his fellow citizens and for that President to demand accountability and Americans to have responded in a unified, affirmative manner.

That demand could not be more righteous or more inherently consistent with what “America” means.

However, much of the response that we have witnessed during the past 10 days is a montage of distortion, deception,, and distraction by those who have only one organizing principle – THEY HATE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE BLACK.

It would be one thing if that hate cabal were fringe. Instead, they have mega-billion dollar underwriters, not least of whom are the KOCH brothers and all the MIC (aka #NEOCONSTER) industrialists whose insatiable avarice is incessantly seeking more ways for brave Americans to do what they and their children would never do – enlist, serve and die for American principles.

Mr President, please realize that more than a few of your fellow Americans are aware of reality, specifically:

      1. A significant percentage of Americans hate you because you are black;

      2. The dudes lusting for war profits – be they MIC or MSM or whomever – hate you because you are black & because you have explicitly repudiated and rejected ‘stupid war’ and any enablement of ‘perpetual war’;

      3. You’ve got a pack of libertarians and other societal malcontents posing as ‘liberal,’ ‘progressive,’ etc who are nothing more than either members of the ‘tin-foil brigade’ or paid pimps of the dudes in #2.

In the face of all that hate, dishonesty, and lustful willingness to see more American troops placed in harms way as to expand profits, it might be worthwhile to be blunt with all Americans.

No mystery here, Mr President. Those of us paying attention know the reality. I’ll never be so lame as to tell you what to do. Hope the above will just be helpful perspective for you to ponder.

      Thank you,
      Bob

Morning family:) What a wonderful day to wake up! Good read: http://www.politicususa.com/2013/09/14/obamas-thoughtful-diplomatic-truimph-syria-leaves-critics-speechless.html

The idea that has been pushed by the Obama critics on the left that Putin rescued Obama on Syria is even more absurd and ridiculous when the details of this agreement are examined. The pressure is now on Russia to deliver Syria’s compliance. If this agreement falls through, it will be on the Russians. President Obama will credit for the agreement and for not using the military to act unilaterally no matter what.

Syria now becomes a test of Russian credibility. Russia’s reputation is on the line. If they fail to deliver Syrian compliance, their image as a global force will take a huge hit. If Putin was really the hero he would have been able to negotiate from a position of strength, and not take such a giant risk.

President Obamm’s critics on the left and right have been made to look foolish again. The President of the United States will always have more information than they do, so when critics base their criticisms on personal biases or what they think is happening, they will almost always be wrong. The Obama bashers on the left and right demonstrated exactly why they have zero credibility.

Obama has once again triumphed at home and abroad.

I dare say that this is why they hate this man so much. He always leaves them looking like the simple fools they are. They get out witted, out played and out lasted. PBO is a survivor and long term thinker. These morons STILL haven’t figured that out after 5 years. Fools, made to look more foolish every single day.

If this deal goes through, it also proves that dealing with Assad’s chemical weapons was ALWAYS the President’s motivation in all this. That is a critical point because it shows that he is ushering in a new approach to US foreign policy.
What President Obama has been laying out in his Syrian policy is an engagement in the world that rejects warmongering as a solution but also suggests that isolation is dangerous. He wants to promote diplomatic solutions that allow the people of Syria to decide their own fate while upholding the norms against the use of chemical weapons.

If that sounds like a “confusing” policy to anyone – its probably because engaging as a partner rather than assuming our own dominance militarily requires nuance and complexity.
In a resolution to the issue of WMD, this new approach demonstrates how wrong the neocons have been that we have to invade other countries to engage productively. It also proves the President’s cynical critics on the left wrong in suggesting that he is just another tool of the neocons. In the end, it is the blindness of those on the right who call this President “weak” and those on the left who suggest that he’s just another “warmonger” that has been revealed.

Donations to House Speaker John Boehner questioned by Federal Election Commission

The Federal Election Commission is examining whether dozens of political action committees and individuals contributed more than the legally allowed amount to House Speaker John Boehner during last year’s election cycle.
Letters the Federal Election Committee sent Monday to Friends of John Boehner indicated that donors including coal, energy, and gambling interests, exceeded contribution limits to Boehner’s committee by more than $150,000.

Among the groups that were allegedly overgenerous to Boehner were Coalpac and Minepac, which represent the mining industry, as well as political committees representing the Exelon, Constellation and Luminant power companies, and the Ceasars and Penn National gambling enterprises.

it is time to call out those who think that just saying you are anti-war in the face of massive atrocities is enough to make you pat yourself in the back.

I think I am not alone in thinking that the left (and the UK MPs) would have served the Syrian civilians better if they had chosen to strengthen PBO’s hand by demanding that assad not only be punished for using CW but also for the conventional weapons that have killed thousands and displaced millions.

I don’t believe in war for just demonstrating might but military intervention to protect civilians against brutality is sometimes the only thing dictators can grasp.

so the anti-war movement must be held accountable for continued atrocities in Syria unless they hit the street and demand (with the same determination) protection of civilians from conventional weapons & point out the role putin, china & iran have played in perpetuating mass slaughter
