Sharpton hosts de Blasio in Harlem, and declares a new ‘identity politics of policy’

    By Azi Paybarah

    12:17 pm Sep. 14, 2013

On Saturday morning, the Rev. Al Sharpton welcomed Bill de Blasio to his weekly rally in Harlem, and did his best to explain de Blasio’s strong showing among black voters in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

“What the election showed the other night is that a lot of identity politics of 20 years ago, 30 years ago has now become the identity politics of policy,” said Sharpton.

“Bill Thompson did very well in some white areas,” he continued. “Bill de Blasio did well in some black areas. You can no longer take yesterday’s map for today’s politics.”

According to exit polls, de Blasio tied Thompson, the only black candidate in the race, among black voters, with each receiving 42 percent support.

The line doesn’t get more ‘bottom’ than this America …

    Or this …

You cannot overcome tyranny if you do not admit it exists, focus precisely on its source and are diligent in eradicating it.

    That Is Our Solemn Mission.

    Yes We Can

…. time for a bit of rest

Have you read Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns about the great migration of more than 6 million African Americans out of the South between 1915 to 1970? A great history which highlights not only the resilience and grit of those moving but also the racism that they encountered wherever they went. It’s not so long ago and despite electing PBO it’s clear that many of the same prejudices and behaviors persist.

Good Morning….everyone must be sleepyheads on this cool morning……I just wanted to start your day off by restating just how much I think Alan Grayson is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party and the USA as a whole………..He is the most blown up toad frog, in love with himself, know it all, piece of ca ca, with a smirk that is worse than Bush’s………and on that, enjoy your coffee…

Kathryn I totally agree with your assessment of Alan Grayson. I just watched that segment and as always he comes across as the skunk at the picnic. Pompous, smug and negative. You know he has all the answers. Anyway, yesterday Congressman Jim Moran was on Up With Steve Kornacki and he totally supports President Obama and the discussion was very informative. Such a difference in tone. You can check it out here …..

Rep. Moran: Credible threat of force brought Syria, Russia to table

Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., joins Steve Kornacki and the Up panel to discuss the latest developments on Syria and the proposed deal between the U.S. and Russia on Syria’s chemical weapons program.

Alan Grayson has been so completely disgusting throughout this entire Syria episode. Thankfully Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, my fellow New Yorker, has been consistently clear, calm and respectful of PBO as he was this morning on Up with Steve.

Oh, how timely. My friend (also in her 60s and also part-Irish) recently was told by her yoga teacher that she should get one of those big ol’ exercise balls to use, to help with a minor problem in her lower back. So, yesterday, she tried it out and it felt great, but then she was distracted having a conversation with herself about how great it felt, lost her balance and scratched the crown of her head on an umbrella stand that had a metal bottom. She was fighting off gushing and yet minute bits of blood from the top of her head, last time I spoke with her. So, obviously, I just sent her this image, with the caption, “Oh, this explains a lot.”
