I am still confused as to what Pres Clinton achieved during his 8 years in office – the stock markets did well – otherwise bland.

      • September 21, 2013 at 8:55 pm

Actually, he totally screwed us by allowing Glass-Steagall to be repealed, for starters ;)

He was lucky to be followed by the disaster that was GWB – allowed Clinton media to rewrite his history with few noticing.

On top of that the people who are now in love with Bill Clinton, like Newt Gingrich and John McCain, voted to impeach him and remove him from office, respectively. For the record, Bill Clinton is one of only two presidents, in the entire history of the United States, who was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives and tried by the U.S. Senate, with the possibility that he may have been removed from office. The other was Andrew Johnson. Lest we forget, 50 Republican senators, including John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Orin Hatch, and Charles Grassley, voted to remove Bill Clinton from office. What saved both Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton from being removed from office was the Constitutional requirement that 2/3rds of the Senate vote to convict a President impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives and then remove him from office. So in both cases, the U.S. Senate was unable to get the 2/3rds votes to remove them from office. History will, however, record that 50 of the 55 Republican Senators voted to convict President Clinton and remove him from office before the end of his term. Only 5 Republican Senators had the courage to vote NO!

Interestingly, many of the white “holier than thou” liberals created “Move-On” to try to defend Bill Clinton during the impeachment from the vicious attacks from Republicans; and,the vast majority of members of the CBC were probably the most vocal and the most passionate defenders of Bill Clinton against Republican attacks. Yet these two groups have been MIA when it comes to defending president Obama from the most ugly and vicious attacks he is being subjected to by Republicans. What’s even worse is that many of them have actively participated in launching their own ugly and vicious attacks against President Obama.

Many thanks Nath – you all know so much more about the political history of the US than I will ever know. The 2 pieces of information that were in my world when Pres Clinton was in the white house

          1. He failed to pass a health care law
          2. He was impeached by the house – Monica!

The world over – the media likes to control the message. I am so glad the internet has stopped that happening.

TAmron Hall at CBC gala says Bill Clinton is the most transformational leader of our time? What is she smoking?

But, but, but, his Clinton Initiative is this coming week? What do you all expect a 66/67 yrs old Bubba to do? After all, TODAY….9-21-13 is the 15th anniversary of his deposition for the Monica Lewinsky case. It depends on what Is, ;) Is…..tape.

Absolutely Amazing, Zizi! These people are determined to re-write history. Fortunately, they will fail miserably because there is a historical record to contend with. See my comment above about Bill Clinton being one of the only two Presidents in history who was impeached by the House of Representatives and tried in the United State, with the possibility of being removed from office. Fifty senators, out of 100, voted to remove Bill Clinton from office.

Thank yuo. Still no news yet. Then I just found out the terrorists are holding some people hostage. I don’t know how a 77 yr old man can handle that if he was one of them. Patiently waiting by phone to hear something. Anything

Zizi, this really must be a very, very, difficult time for you and your family, and the family of your mentor! It’s so hard to imagine how it feels to be so far away and unable to get information about what’s going on about your loved ones in the wake of this horrendous mass murder. I am praying and keeping positive thoughts that your mentor will eventually turn up physicality unharmed. Believe me, older people are some of the toughest people in situations like this. So, please don’t let his age discourage you from remaining hopeful and positive. I am also praying that his son will make a quick and complete recovery from his wounds. Obviously, there is no way for any of us to truly experience the pain you are gong through, “waiting by the phone to hear something…” But all of us who love and respect you are praying and hoping that when the phone does ring it will bring you positive results.

Prayers and blessings to you, your family and the family of your mentor. Prayers and deep condolences to the people who lost loved in Nairobi, Kenya.

    • September 21, 2013 at 9:01 pm

Hope you have positive news about your mentor, soon, zizi. Keeping all of you in my thoughts!!

Bare in mind , that thru. 8 years, Bill Clinton had a Republican House and Senate.

    Food for thought.

ONLY from 1995-2001. Bill Clinton had Dem control when he took office on Jan 20, 1993. He had more Dem House members than when pres Obama took office.

Sorry but that’s just not comparable. The “GOP” of the 1990′s were far more cooperative than the ConservaDEMS of 2009 and beyond…

And I haven’t even begun to talk about the GOP of 2009 and beyond….

You might have called it Correctly on the Debt Ceiling…….I am almost there with you. POTUS may go the Coin printing deal. The other version…..his once Tutor, Prof Law Tribe,…. said Nope…….that it was not Constitutional. POTUS might not go with the 14 Amendment section 5? Was it?

      • September 21, 2013 at 9:41 pm

Am not a lawyer, but from all my reading, the coin printing seems rock solid. Lots of folk – good lawyers – strongly view the ‘debt ceiling’ as Unconstitutional per the 14th. We’ll see. But, when #PBO is as forceful as he has been on this issue it’s obvious he has a plan and he will implement it – and drink the Republicans milkshake at the same time.

      • 138 Betsy
        September 22, 2013 at 12:44 am

Sorry I missed the previous conversation. What’s the “coin deal”?

        • 139 Nena20409
          September 22, 2013 at 11:47 am

POTUS can direct the Treasury to print a Coin for say; $2-3T Dollars. That Coin would be enough to help US borrow or cover our debt…..allowing Us to pay our bills.

There is nothing in our Constitution that would stop a POTUS for giving that directive. Congress could moan and foam, but as of now, there is No law to stop PBO from doing just that since the House of reps are being destructive about raising the Debt Ceiling.

Bobfr does a masterful job in explaining this. He did that about 5-6 posts back.

  36. September 21, 2013 at 9:31 pm
