In honor of the autumnal equinox.

The best thing I’ve heard about the equinoxes from a friend in Alaska is “we’re all equal that day.” Meaning that Alaska may have the midnight sun in the summer and no daylight at all on the soltices, but on the equinox everyone on earth has the same amount of daylight and nightfall.

For those that may have missed this part of the rabbit hole the GOP is currently descending.

Republicans hate domestic spending, but their hatred is not completely indiscriminate. Some programs offend them more, and others less. The general pattern is that social programs offend Republicans to the degree that they benefit the poor, sick, or otherwise unfortunate. The struggle over the farm bill is not the biggest policy dispute in American politics, but it is the one that most clearly reveals the priorities and ideological identity of the contemporary GOP.

Olsen also neglects to mention that House Republicans are not only locking in high agriculture subsidies, they are throwing more money at agriculture than Democrats want to spend. Obama has attacked the GOP farm-subsidy bill for spending too much. Here is the one chunk of social spending where Republicans are not only failing to issue hostage threats to secure the cuts they demand, they are also refusing to cut spending as much as Barack Obama asks. And the program they pick to defend is, on the substantive merits, the most unjustifiable program of any significant scale in the federal budget.

Been wanting to catch up with you Ms Chips – I could not believe my ears – on my TV a day or so ago – there was talk of Cheesey Puffs – I thought the crazy things only existed in the imagination of TOD – was I wrong. No-where in my world could I even imagine something called cheesey puffs – and there on the TV was the man explaining that any worthwhile quiz show in existence gave the losing team – at a minimum – 1 years’s supply of cheesey puffs.

      • September 21, 2013 at 7:41 pm

99ts!! The LOSING – losing!!!!! – team won a years’s supply of cheesey puffs???? Holy smokes, that’s the ultimate losing incentive!!!

        • 31 99ts
          September 21, 2013 at 7:50 pm

And my crazy father used to say “To love the game beyond the prize ….” whenever I was on the losing side – he didn’t know about cheesey puffs I guess!

And now that cheesey puffs have your attention – could you have a few words with the powers that be & explain to CBS that there are millions outside of the USA who want to see the President & Mrs Obama at the awards tonignt & this message

“This content is not available in your area due to rights restrictions” – could well mark the start of WWIII against the US media.

Also, too – noticed on an earlier thread all the blog tyrants have been working overtime to keep the RWNJs out of the comments – thank you so much – they must really hate that their hate never is seen in this part of the cyber world

          • September 21, 2013 at 7:54 pm

“To love the game beyond the prize ….”

Seriously 99ts, will the streaming not work for you? These links neither –

            http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml

            http://www.ustream.tv/cbsnews

            ??

Whatever part of the planet I’m in, those links always works for me – I’m confused!

Ooooh – thanks – the widget works – I forgot to try that one – the one you have at the top of the page is giving me the “go away” message

My dad was a teenager of the great depression – he used to go to school on days when he couldn’t get some casual work – and had the works of shakespeare, english poets – and various other saying stored in his brain. They would often be heard at the dinner table :)

              • September 21, 2013 at 8:03 pm

“The one you have at the top of the page is giving me the “go away” message”

Weird!!! I noticed recently that CBS blocked viewing of their live stream on any site but their own, but they seemed to undo that – am I the only one who can see it on this site?????!!!!

Ah, sounds like your Dad was a well of wisdom!!

If I remember correctly—–weren’t they spittin’ mad at PBO last year at this event——about somethin’ or other? Hopefully, they’re not so crabby this year. I could never figure out why they picked out THIS president as their most venomous target, as the one to finally arise in unanimous opposition.

Good evening, TOD! PBO, TOD and the rest of the world obviously DIDN’T read my memo — I’m on vaca, therefore the world must freeze in place until I return!

OK, now that you’ve stopped LYAO… I bring you greeting from stop #2 – Rome, Italy! My Mom is having a blast! and if she’s happy, I’m happy.
We set sail tomorrow, will read you when I can get access.

Yeah, my annual jazz cruise. I’ve been having TOD withdrawal — seems I’ve only had time to occasionally gglance at the front page since the end of August.

        Miss you folks!

        • September 21, 2013 at 8:15 pm

Alycee, how on earth could you miss these crazy people when you’re on a JAZZ CRUISE?!

Easy, the folks here are what Rev Lowery calls “good crazy!” and each time I travel outside the US, I’m reminded (1) how blessed I am, and (2) how much work there is still to do at home! We’ve got to get the idiots out of congress…

Oooo, I’m inspired. What an amazing trip that must be! Hmmm, might have do something like this as my birthday present to me next year!

Enjoy! Keep us posted as you go along. :-)

O/T Attention Dudette, and all TOD Geeks……. DARPA is doing some crazy/awesome stuff. Minature hurricane drones, dragonfly peripheral camera lens’s, “Upward Falling Payloads” aimed at developing storage capsules for military assets that could stay at the bottom of the sea for years until needed, DARPA’s big eye: 1.8-gigapixel camera for air surveillance (could provide entire surveillance of Paris w/ 6 cameras) and many more out of this world innovations.

The photo of the 2012 Phoenix Awards Dinner (one at the bottom) is that one of the lady members of US Secret Service Agent standing near FLOTUS & all dressed up?

Wonder if the female agents wear high heels when they work such duties – how can they run?

I have only seen them during campaign events and they are always polite but no-nonsense

Did you know that the big bad U.S. govt. has a fancy new internment camp in S.D. where they’re going to throw tea party peeps and other “rouge” American citizens? Don’t be too alarmed though—-it comes with a McD’s, Taco Bell and Wal-Mart—–all the comforts of home. Nice!

Remembering, was last year the time that PBO pushed back hard at the CBC which had spent the weeks leading up to this dinner calling him all kinds of names?

wasn’t this the time PBO completed his speech with a podium slap and leaving all do-nothing whiners really quiet?

wonder how many in the AA academia came to the dinner tonight AFTER they had already written their columns which are ALREADY critical of PBO – before he even says anything

Today in 2001: ‘A Tribute to Heroes’ was aired commercial-free on most of the major US TV networks. The live program was organised to raise money following the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and New York’s World Trade Center. Neil Young, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, U2, Limp Bizkit, Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam all performed. Manning the telephones to take pledges were celebrities including Jack Nicholson, Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Robin Williams, Meg Ryan, Cuba Gooding Jr., Kurt Russell, Adam Sandler and many more.

Hi Dakota! Thanks for the birthday wishes. I tried to get back to thank everyone individually. So sorry if I missed you.

Which video isn’t working for you — the Billie Holiday one? I just it off of Youtube. Couldn’t find a different version of it by her, but there are versions by other artists. I’ll post another one in the next thread.
