Morning Africa and Carol – and everyone! Back in a bit.
Yes we are!!! Have a great day!!!!!
Good Morning Chips. Any update photos on Danny?
Triplets, we are. Morning Carol.
Good Morning Africa.
Good morning TOD peeps!! Have a wonderful day!!!
Did anyone check out Lovely Plains website about old wars? There was a tweet from DOD on the POWMIAs. I replied to the tweet and got this back. :).
@CarolMaeWY thanks to you and your husband for your service!— U.S. Dept of Defense (@DeptofDefense) September 22, 2013
Very nice CarolMae. Congrats on a well deserved recognition.
Glad to see that @DeptofDefense provides such positive feedback on twitter.
One of the 8,598 reasons to be grateful that Barack Obama is President now, is that his Administration spans the beginning the “Twitter Age.” And people in this vast bureaucracy are making Twitter work for both the government and its citizens.
People who are children now (and those born in the future) will have no concept of a world without Twitter. It has established itself as the way governments can communicate with the world, and a more nimble way of networking people with common interests.
When Twitter was brand new (in late 2007, I think), I remember reading an article in Time Magazine where the author made this prediction. For the life of me, I cannot remember the journalist’s name; I think she left the magazine shortly thereafter. She was their Tech Writer, an African American woman. Does anyone here know who I’m referring to? Thanks.
Isn’t it more like 300 million good reasons Barack Obama is our President?
As an OFA member, we are working hard and long to spread the word. Obamacare is Better care for Less cost. No one should sensibly NOT want that. We are trying to stop the lies and the fear. We have to continue to talk to everyone who will listen, those that won’t listen, we pray for their enlightenment.
Can’t understand how the GOP can feed fear and legitimize lies. Usually an ‘our program is better than yours’ would make sense but they don’t even have an alternative to offer. From the outside looking in, all I can say is just Wow! Unbelievable? There are no words.
Good morning everyone. Wishing you all a beautiful day.
So I’m finding out from Chris Van Holland (sp) that the budget that ‘pubs have put up assumes all the savings in Obamacare (i.e.medicare savings), but are running around saying get rid of it. So they really don’t want to defund it, they just want to demonize it.
This is about the 2014 Senate races. GOTV is more important than ever.
Heartsick to hear that Zizi’s worst fears were confirmed in the wee hours this morning.
Such a good man who contributed so much to the world. Such despicable terrorists.

This is so sad.
The baby whisperer strikes again.
I’m giving up on football after today. Too painful.
HOLY BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Manchester United didn’t score one goal against Man. City? 4 – 0?
4 – 0?!?!?!!!!!
OMG……….I can’t even adequately mock you because I’m so shocked. 4 – 0?!!!! I expected a 0 – 0 or a 1 – 0 with Man City winning but 4 – 0?!?!
Also Arsenal won their game 3 -1. What the bloody hell is happening this season? It’s all topsy-turvy.
What the heck happened to Manchester United today?
Hey, it’s not over yet – and the way it’s going it could end up 24-0.
Utterly abysmal, I cannot believe this
Bring Back Fergie!
Your optimism makes me go MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I told you before and unfortunately, (dances with glee on the inside) I have to say it again but without Robin van Persie, Manchester United is W-E-A-K. He’s the only one pretty much holding your team together. He’s out today due to a groin strain, I believe, and see what’s happening? You all are losing 4 – 0?!?!?!!!!
When a team is built around one player, disaster can strike in an instant. Now, if only he would just sign with Chelsea and join up with Lampard, Mata, Oscar, Hazard; that would make me very happy indeed.

I have a feeling you’ll be needing this today Chiparoo. Today’s Man City win must have evoked horrors of their 6 – 1 win against Man United two years ago.
Wiggling my bare bottom in your direction. But thank you for the Cheesy Puffs.
THE HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP GAP
The Shutdown’s Real Goal
BY E.J. Dionne September 19th, 2013
What’s fascinating, and this speaks to the perceived power of the Tea Party in primaries, is that it’s taking only a small minority of House Republicans to push toward Armageddon. The Washington Post’s Lori Montgomery and Paul Kane estimated that roughly 40 conservatives revolted against their leadership’s efforts to keep the government open past Sept. 30. That’s 40 in a 435-member House of Representatives. What’s become of us when less than 10 percent of one chamber of Congress can unleash chaos? What does this say about the House Republican leadership gap?
But it’s also important to understand why the Republican right is so fixated on killing or delaying Obamacare before it goes into effect. Their central worry is not that it will fail, but that it will succeed.
GOVERNMENT IS GOOD
‘An Unapologetic Defense of a Vital Institution’
TAXES ARE GOOD
This idea of taxes as dues is not original to Lakoff. It is an idea that has often been expressed, but has not been promoted with the same ferocity or persistence of the taxes-as-affliction metaphor. Franklin Delano Roosevelt once remarked that “Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society.” And Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. expressed a similar sentiment when he said that “I like to pay taxes. With them I buy civilization.”
THIS is what the MSM should be bringing to American’s attention, instead of acting like Reagan’s snake oil (trickle-down) was an actual economic theory.
Only those people who benefit from trickle-down endorse it. It DOES NOT WORK, and look what has happened to American since Reagan.

BREAKING: Exit poll shows Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives strongest party in German election.— The Associated Press (@AP) September 22, 2013
RT @breakingpol: German Chancellor Merkel's Christian Democrats party ahead in election, according to ARD exit poll – @dw_english http://t.…— Breaking News (@BreakingNews) September 22, 2013
Both are ahead???
Is it one and the same party?
Merkel´s party = the conservatives (read: American trending towards liberal), the CDU is currently trending at 42% which is quite a win in comparison to 4 years ago. Her challenger´s party, the social democrats, currently are prognosed at 25%.
So far, and these are only first careful predictions, two coalitions are possible, both leaving Merkel at the helm.
1) CDU and the Free Democrats (currently trendign at 5%, they had to suffer losses and with first prognosis in only, these numbers are estimations. Should they end up UNDER 5% that means they´re out, because here your party has to have at least 5% to be allowed in the parliament.
2) Which leaves number two: A grand coalition of CDU and SPD. Seeing that the SPD could not even get the majority in a coalition with their traditional partners, the Greens (and even in a three party coalition with the additional votes of the Left (which they ruled out because nobody likes the Left :P), it is unlikely, that a Grand Coalition would be one led by the SPD and thus with Steinbrück as chancellor,
Niliathiel is Merkel still for unwavering austerity or have things changed any?
So a coalition government is necessary because CDU didn’t capture over 50% of the vote?
Is Germany looking at something similar to what happened in Great Britain a few years ago (Conservative-Lib Dem coalition govt)?
Thanks for the insight. Most news here seems to reporting a “win” for Merkel.
Arapho: This IS going to be a win for Merkel. This is a country where four to five parties matter in each election, I am thirty-one now and there has been no government in my lifetime that was NOT a coalition. So there will be either a Conservative / Liberal Democrats coalition or a Conservative / Social Democrat one.
I personally favour the second option. Don´t be fooled by the title Liberal Democrats, they are mostly economically liberal and have made a few bad choices in the last years which clearly shows now in the results. I think what we see as first careful results now shows a mood here:
People want Merkel to stay but they want another coalition. Same goes for me btw.
DerBingle: You got to be careful with that, i would not overgeneralise it, mostly also because international news tend to break down news from here into more simpler terms which often means quite some stuff gets lost. She is often painted as the no sayer, but I think that´s too strict an image. Let´s take Greece as an example: they are in a bad mood against her right now, there are protests etc. and some not so nice and not so appropriate name calling… Merkel here says that austerity has to go with the support and to me that makes perfect sense if we consider how Greece ended up in the mess they are in rigth now. For example, people used to retire at 55 and wages were very very high in international comparison. That are just two of the examples that show there was some bad management going on there that led to a lot of trouble, one being that about every second young person is out of work. That´s the background that Merkel´s call for austerity has to be seen against. And as I said before, she cannot be compared to what you´d see as “conservative” over there.
Thanks for updating us about the German elections. Please keep doing so as it progresses.
Will do. It will probably take a while till we have realiable results. and even a bit longer till a coalition is established. Talks about that will be this week ift hing go like they went in the past.
One last thing to understand the austerity debate. This is the EU. When a state fails there are just two options: let it fail (which will cause issues for the entire EU) or help it out of the mess. Which for me as a German citizen means that my tax money goes into bailing out a country that has possibly done bad economics. Just as an extreme case. And since Germany is a country that made it through the financial crisis well (we´re the second largest economy, just behind you guys) and we´re economically thriving right now, people get pissed because it´s always us that are expected to give money to EU states that are in debt.
Very interesting. Thanks for your response.
I wonder if California (where I am) is leading the way for change in US politics.
We recently voted to unjerrymand our Congressional Districts (my gerrymandered CD was a reliably GOP until CD lines were drawn geographically (as close to squares as possible) and now we have a Dem congresswoman (yay).
Primary winners are now the candidates who gather the most votes (the fist and second place finishers, regardless of their party or how many candidates there are), which could encourage more parties to join the primary fun (instead of just Dems and GOP).

In honor of today’s Autumnal equinox, here are couple of items that I made the mistake of posting in middle of last night’s CBC festivities (LOL).
A friend in Alaska reminds me that we’re all equal each equinox, meaning that on each solstice, Alaska may be the land of the midnight sun or not see the sun at all, everyone in the world gets the same daylight/darkness every equinox.
I really like this map because you can clearly see where the Continental Divide is in the US (i.e., foliage changes at the same time in southern New Mexico as in Washington DC, which is much further north). Many people don’t realize how high an elevation New Mexico is at. Even the “low” desert is at 5,000 feet and Santa Fe is the highest US capital city, at over 7,000 feet.

What the hell is Peggy Noonan talking about now ? She said that Obama staffers called the President “Oba-me” and that everything is about him. I’m so sick of these beltway morons making up stuff and pretending that they know what is going on in the white house.
Well its worked so far.
Why is anyone still listening to Peggy Noonan? She’s always wrong. She’s childish and immature and lives in some Reagan fantasy-land.
Peggy Noonan fantasizes about something in her dreams and writes it the next day in a column as if it were truth. It’s like reading the rantings of an idiot who has long since lost the distinction between make believe and reality.
Exactly ! Why would anyone from the white house even talk to her when everyone knows she is a republican who hates the president.
You know what I’m going to say this, and I mean exactly what you think it mean……”F” that dried up old bitch Peggy Noonan. And this time I will not ask to excuse my language !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The DC echo chamber does not realize that the bus has left station.
MSM thinks that Noonan, Sour-Face Maureen Dowd, David Brooks, etc. opinions matter.
The audience for these shows is shrinking to include the DC echo chamber only.
The political MSM has proved to be essential worthless this month. Seems like most of their twitter feeds now is on the MLB playoffs. Left in the dust.

Condolences to zizi and all those who mourn for loved ones due to this senseless stupidity. Senseless stupidity as acts like this reinforces support and sympathy for the victims and isolates the perpetrators, surely not what they want. I would think if you want the world to be sympathetic to your cause and assist you in achieving your goals you would be using peaceful means and not going about blowing and shooting up innocent citizens. Fanatically stupid is an apt description of all extremists who just hurt their cause with such senseless acts. There is no arguing with those who are convinced their opinion is the only true opinion, RWNJs are unfortunately showing the same traits..
CALLING OUT THE HACKS
Why We Fight: Holding Journalists’ Feet to the Fire
By Nicole Belle
This is what David Gregory, Chuck Todd and NBC News think is journalism. They cover politics as if it was sports. They report stats, they list plays in the game and the players. It’s dispassionate and focuses not on the policies themselves, but the dance of politicos.
It’s also fundamentally dishonest. Politics is not a game and shouldn’t be treated like a sporting event. At no point during that little cheerful recitation of polling results does either Gregory or Todd actually point out that the raising of the debt ceiling has never been a point of extortion until President Obama took office. Nor did they bother to mention that the debt ceiling has nothing to do with cutting costs, as it only reflect already-committed budgetary items. Do any of the people who they poll understand that the GOP is essentially refusing to actually pay for items they’ve already approved spending on?
Read the full post here …..
I guess even a clock can be right twice a day, lord knows I could do without Nicole Belle’s commentary but on this issue she is absolutely correct. At best Gregory and Todd are stenographers for the GOP, at worst they just don’t give a damn about the truth as it relates to politics.
I think I made this comment a few weeks ago but it bears repeating now.
Do not buy into anything along the lines of “the ACA messaging could have been better.”
The messaging has been fine.
This is a complicated law.
Rolling it out bit by bit is the only thing that could have been done.
Detractors of POTUS are now saying the ACA isn’t ready. It Is ready.
Other detractors are claiming that The Clintons would have prepared us better. hahahahahahaha.
The will do anything–ANYTHING–to undermine the implementation of the ACA. They’re now reduced to throwing dog poo and litter to see what sticks. It’s too late. Health care is ON and it will work!!!
with clintons, there would no aca to start with. end of story.
There WAS no aca to start with – nothing to do with “would not be” – they failed at health care
Vicki, you are absolutely correct about the message, the message was never the problem. When millions of dollars are spent on confusion, then the result will be confusion. The GOP is in total fear about the ACA because they know that at 12:00 am on Tuesday October 1, 2013 that golden nipple that they have been sucking on will no longer produce milk. And please don’t get me started on the Clintons and health care, if their asses could have gotten health care done in their eight goddamn years in office they would have done it.
i agree Don.
People forget that Medicare Part D didn’t poll that well during implementation. Actually President Bush’s Medicare Part D program was more unpopular than the ACA, but I don’t recall the media blaming the president for failed messaging. After it was implemented people came around to the idea and accepted it.
Now when it comes to the Clinton’s I recall Bill Clinton laughing when Wolf Blitzer asked if his white house was better at communication than the Obama white house. He said that it’s easy to say that now because he is out of office but during the 90′s people complained that the Clinton white house was disorganized in terms of communication. They pushed hard for health care reform but they failed so it’s not like the Clinton’s were perfect strategists.
It’s easy to revise history and say that a previous administration was perfect, but like Nancy Pelosi said every one complains about White house communications at some point.
Vicki, tell these detractors first of all the Clintons couldn’t even get Healthcare reform pass. Barack Obama did. Tell the detractors to remember the Clintons tried, but fail. I am fed up with all this Clintons are better than Obama B.S.
Somebody just needs to tell the truth…I will. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the message. Americans are just dumb! Dumb, I say. The information is available for anyone who wants to know and it always has been. The President does not have time to explain everything to everyone like they’re three year olds. As for the Clintons preparing us…preparing us for what? Just go buy some damned insurance. It’s not quantum physics, it healthcare!!!
I agree FayPax.
Plus the haters don’t want the facts, they rather be lead around by the nose by those lying GOP politicians like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and those drug addicts and drunk, racists radio hosts,
And to think, they are against education. They should be busting the school door down and trying to camp out. I’m fed up with their ignorance.
Yes, which was also my point, Faypax.
The Administration is well aware of the attention span of many of us.
The Administration is also well aware of the purposeful slandering of the ACA.
I’m guessing that rather than adding to the general din and confusion a decision was made for a careful bit-by-bit rollout.
This way folks will find out firsthand when they apply exactly what’s what.
Or from their family or friends or neighbors or co-workers who apply.
Starting in 9 days word will get out at an ever-increasing pace about the benefits to Americans that Obamacare will provide.
There exists no greater messaging than this.
Hi Vicki. “The Administration is well aware of the attention span of many of us.” Us?!
Don’t put me in that mess.
Seriously, I understood your point. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about, even among those who don’t quite understand. ObamaCare promises “free” services and a subsidy. A whole host of folks will show up without knowing if it’s heathcare or flu shots.
City tramples all over man u 4-1. Poor moyes. Poor bt.
Thank you for your sympathy, Mr Even.
My bet is on gunners this season.
Hmmm, dunno, but if it’s not to be United – – I’d like it to be them. Kinda reckon it’ll be between Manchester City and Chelsea, tough. Barf.
So gunners it is. Glad we agree.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO OBAMA DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (A must read.)
ODS – OBAMA DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
If you believe the following, you are probably suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome (ODS):
If Obama said it, it’s a lie. When it’s proven to be the truth, he got lucky – because it’s just a crazy coincidence that his lie turned out to be the truth after all. If he knew it was the truth, he would never have said it in the first place.
To hear those with ODS tell the tale, Obama is too stupid to know that the Republicans are not on his side, too dumb to know he’s in over his head, and way too idiotic to govern a nation. The fact that, under his guidance, the economy has improved, job numbers are up, and the deficit is being reduced at an amazing pace is just – you guessed it! – “dumb luck.” Makes one wonder how such a dumbass was somehow smart enough to get elected – twice.
Read the entire brilliant post here …..
On CNN’s GPS, Bill Clinton was there and he said that TBGOPers have media encouragement and reinforcement.
Shocked that the obvious was a discussion at Fox via Mediaite.
Oh, come on,” Williams said. “Has it ever occurred to you that conservatives are the media? Don’t you work for the Blaze? Don’t you know about Drudge Report and Red State and Fox News?”
German elections update:
Since it looks like the FDP is out of the parliament and another new, but small party might not make the 5% either, things remain open.
Last poll i´ve seen two minutes ago, see the CDU one seat in favour of an absolute majority. They need 304 seats in parliament and right now they have that.
German elections you can remain under 50& and still get the majority of seats under special circumstances e.g. right now about 9% of the vote would go to parties that do not make it into parliament due to the five per cent obstacle. That might shift seating to the favour of a CDU only government. But again, careful predictions as of now.
WHITE HIOUSE STATEMENT:
President Obama called President Kenyatta of Kenya this morning to express condolences to the government and people of Kenya for the terrorist attack carried out by al-Shabaab yesterday on the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi.
Hi TOD family! Long story but I had to be away for awhile. Glad to be back and love the wonderful coverage. The FLOTUS in that gown is fabulous!
Question for the folks at NBC..how many women and minorities did you interview for the job of CHIEF White House correspondent who only had a high school diploma and some college? I’m betting none.
Perhaps major networks shouldn’t hire under qualified white males who don’t believe in reporting the facts and instead give opportunities to the thousands of highly qualified women and minorities who can’t seem to break the glass ceiling where top correspondent positions are only offered to white males. Maybe we could get real journalism that offers more than the ‘good old boys’ point of view.
Joe Williams…..the veteran Journo canned by Politico. He could do a better job that Charles Todd.
Joy Ann Reid…..a Harvard graduate will do a better job than Chuck Todd. JT Holmes will do a better job than Chuck Todd. Carlos Watson……a former Anchor at MSNBC for sure could do a better job than CTodd.
