Such sadness. When will we say, ENOUGH?

We need to keep saying it every day to our Congress critters that they must act in the best interests of public safety. The gun nuts as well as the NRA lobby them mercilessly, so we must rise up and make our moral argument louder and stronger than them. I don’t ever want to see such sadness on POTUS’ and FLOTUS’ faces again. They have borne this grief publicly for us too many times already.

I know. I hate to say this but if meeting with the parents do of Sandy Hook couldn’t do it, it sure is an uphill climb. We desperately need every Democrat to come out and VOTE in 2014 and get the gavel back to Nancy Pelosi!

    Congrats on 1st Pamela!!!

    Thank you, once again, Chips!!!

BTW, when the Fox clowns start challenging #teabagger Cruz you know the “GOP Establishment” is totally freaking out over any notion of a government shutdown or default.

What time will POTUS and FLOTUS be heading to New York tomorrow?

  7. September 22, 2013 at 10:02 pm

President Obama has now addressed the seventh mass shooting of his presidency, and we certainly heard the weariness in his voice Monday as spoke about the massacre at the Washington Navy Yard: “It’s a shooting that targeted our military and civilian personnel. These are men and women who were going to work, doing their job, protecting all of us. They’re patriots, and they know the dangers of serving abroad, but today they faced the unimaginable violence that they wouldn’t have expected here at home.”

Sen. Morse and I started the 2013 legislative session amid a constituent outcry to curb gun violence in our communities. The movie theater shooting in Aurora last summer and the Newtown massacre in Connecticut had brought guns to the forefront of our agenda. We passed laws that extended our state’s background-check system to include private sales, to keep guns out of the hands of criminals; limited ammunition magazines to 15 rounds; and made sure that domestic abusers aren’t allowed to buy or keep guns.

Each of these laws is already making Colorado safer. According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, 28 criminals have been denied a firearm through a private sale in the first eight weeks of the expanded background-check law. That’s more than four criminals a week, when we know all too well that it takes only one person with a weapon to shatter a life, a family, a community.

I can actually feel the hurt that is showing on FLOTUS face as she looks at her husband.

FLOTUS knows him, and she know how this truly affects him. It isn’t any show for the camera , POTUS is truly concern.

        September 22, 2013 at 10:56 pm

Yes, that expression on Michelle’s face just seared me. She is worried about him and what he carries. She knows how he cares, and how he is hurting for the families and the country. We need to continue to keep her in our circle of concern and prayers as she sustains him.

      • 31 anniebella
        September 22, 2013 at 10:58 pm

And POTUS would love to do something about these mass shootings. I remember FLOTUS talking about how she and the girls can make POTUS smile. Probably right when he need it the most.

        • 32 HZ
          September 22, 2013 at 11:34 pm

Anniebella and Carolyn, you both read those expressions from POB’s and FLOTUS faces right on point. He is strong and she is strong; but these shooting situations are very heavy on him because he knows that Congress is just doing thinking that will wear him down; but trust me when it seems the darkest, there are so many people who are right at this moment on bending knees praying for POB. Many who are very close to him know for sure how strong POB is; however they also know that he is human. This really hurts him because it is so cowardly done and Congress can change things, but because of the hate that they have on him, that hate affects others; and that really hurts POB.

We will just have to stand steady with him and really do all that we can to lift him up in our prayers. Also, POB has many things that we do not even know about. But not to worry, just keep praying for our president and FLOTUS. I sometimes just spend long times in my music room/library/prayer room and just cry out in supplication on his behalf. That will count a lot for his space. Let us keep doing whatever we personally feel we can do in that spiritual realm to keep his space as peaceful as possible.

But know this for sure; he Will be Fine. He Will get through all of this. He Will. Trust me on this one.
Everyone have a great evening and thanks so much Chips, our beautiful soul for the beautiful haven here and all of the support you give to President Barack Obama. Things will get rugged before they get smooth; but they will smooth out. President Obama has faith, and Lord knows he is working as hard as he can. We Will Get There Together as our TOD family always does. (((((Good night everyone)))))))HZ

Thank you, Bob. That’s what a warrior does and it’s what our president shows us every day. Never give in and never give up. We are on the side of humanity, decency and the true ‘right’ to life that every living person deserves. That’s why we can’t ever surrender to the darkness of ignorance, greed and madness.

      September 23, 2013 at 12:58 am

Thanks Bob! You always propose sensible solutions. I wish members of Congress, and members of state legislatures, would seriously consider them. I strongly support the concept of liability insurance for all gun owners. I also support holding accountable “gun/ammo manufacturers & sellers” for manufacturing and selling products which are exclusively intended to kill. In addition, I think that at least 30 days should be the minimum time required to conduct a thorough background check, to find out the mental health status and records of prior criminal convictions, for any individual trying to purchase a gun. After all the right wingers have no qualms legislating all sorts of restrictions and checks before some one can be allowed to vote. So why the objections about trying to make sure that guns don’t fall in the wrong hands?

      • September 23, 2013 at 2:33 am

“After all the right wingers have no qualms legislating all sorts of restrictions and checks before some one can be allowed to vote. So why the objections about trying to make sure that guns don’t fall in the wrong hands?”

    http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/09/20/the-house-republicans-ghoulish-defunding-rally/

There was something ghoulish about the rally that House Republicans held today in the Rayburn Room after they voted to defund health care reform. The party atmosphere was so boisterous, the cheers and laughter so loud, that it was easy to forget everyone in the room had just voted to keep tens of millions of people from getting health insurance.

By keeping spending at its current levels through mid-December, they had also voted to continue the sequester, which is preventing millions of people from getting public housing subsidies, Head Start seats, and unemployment benefits. The sequester is also taking a serious toll on scientific research and investment in infrastructure, not to mention its infuriating drag on employment and the economic recovery. How about another round of applause?

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, of course, from a House that had voted the previous day to cut food stamps for 3.8 million low-income people, including many very young and very old recipients. But at least they didn’t have a party to celebrate that vote.

Today, though, everyone was in a great mood.

“When we acted, it wasn’t just a group of Republicans, but it was a bipartisan vote,” said Kevin McCarthy, the Majority Whip. (O.K., fine. Two Democrats voted for it, and 188 voted against.) “Let me state that again because I want to make sure you write it correctly. [Huge laughter.] It was a bipartisan vote because we’re Americans first! [Cheers, applause.]”

These are sick, despicable creatures. HOUSE/SENATE 2014!!!!

” Attacking the President (this President) is fair game. Confronting their lies and biases is attacking them. They are a joke.”

Very well said, Theo! This is exactly what we are facing with respect to the so called mainstream media (MSM). They want unlimited freedom to use any lies, hype, exaggerations, and spin, to attack President Obama. But pointing out their unethical attacks on the president is interfering with Freedom of the Press. I am so delighted that TOD twitter Warriors, like JOBoomr, have been relentless in exposing the hypocrisy and the unethical behavior of members of the MSM. It’s so funny to read that Chuckie Todd wants his remarks put into context despite the fact that he routinely attacks the President, using GOP talking points, or using some of the President’s remarks completely spin out of context. to make the President look bad.

“Why Barack Obama looks so exhausted”

    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/why-barack-obama-looks-so-exhausted-97191.html

    —-

Barack Obama looks exhausted these days. He looks about as tired, in other words, as the nation feels…he said that people are always telling him to “hang in there.” “Don’t worry about me!” Obama said. “I am still fired up, because I still see the work that needs to be done!”

…in the world’s greatest democracy, our national government is so broken that it cannot act to save the lives of its citizens from mass slaughter. And the president admits it.

I do not blame the president. I do not blame the nation. Nor will I say “the system” is to blame. The system is not to blame. The scorpions are to blame.

There are scorpions among us. They sit in Congress, committed not to solving problems, but blocking solutions…They would take the food out of the mouths of children. They would put the insurance companies back in charge of health care. They would shut the government down, refuse to pay the nation’s bills, destroy the trust that other countries place in us when they buy our bonds, they would do all this rather than give President Obama the slimmest of political victories.

They don’t have real alternate plans to help people. They weren’t, they believe, elected to help people. They were elected, they believe, to keep the other side from helping people.

    • September 23, 2013 at 8:07 am

This is an excellent analysis, SW, and I’m glad that the article singles out the source of our national problems–the scorpions. I would add that the goal of the scorpions is also to wear the president out and then to discourage all of us from ever again voting for someone like him who seeks to change this country for the better. Well, they are in for a big surprise. The president may be aging, but I believe he has infinite sources of strength–from his faith, from his own internal convictions, from his beautiful wife and daughters and from the certain knowledge that all of us love him. It isn’t some mysterious “other” that is going to save the US at this point. It’s us, working together to get every single one of the nasty scorpions out of the Congress and out of our state houses.

      • September 23, 2013 at 9:09 am

” The president may be aging, but I believe he has infinite sources of strength…”

I agree. Listening to him speak at the memorial on yesterday, I had a sense that the President was fed up and will not hesitate to call people/groups out. But all the craziness, the deliberate acts of sabotage, the constant obstruction, the attacks on his character, etc., wear on a person; a lesser person would have given up in defeat.

The scorpions definitely need to be swept out.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2013/09/23/obama-united-nations-iran/2853233/

“…Obama’s first meeting Monday is with President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. The two leaders will discuss efforts “to advance transparent, democratic governance, expand trade and development, improve security, and create opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs,” says the White House schedule.

Later, Obama will host a reception for heads of state, and what the White House calls “representatives of civil society, multilateral organizations, and private foundations.”

The group will “explore ways to protect the critical role civil society plays from growing restrictions in a number of countries around the world,” the schedule says.

In the evening, Obama will meet employees with the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.

The day ends with the president and first lady Michelle Obama hosting a United Nations General Assembly reception.”

Busy day! Somewhere in there he might squeeze in a meeting with Iran President Hasan Rouhani. :-D

CAIRO — An Egyptian court has banned the Muslim Brotherhood group and ordered its assets confiscated in a dramatic escalation of a crackdown by the military-backed government against supporters of the ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

Egypt state TV said the court issued its ruling on Monday.

The Brotherhood was outlawed for most of its 85 years in existence. But after the 2011 ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak, it was allowed to work openly, formed a political party and rose to power in a string of post-Mubarak elections. In March, it registered as a recognized non-governmental organization.

The ruling, which can be appealed, opens door for authorities to track down the group’s elaborate network of social services, dealing a deadly blow to its pillars of grass-root support.
