Three leaders of Germany’s Green Party have announced their resignations after the party came fourth in the election won by the ruling conservatives.

The Greens’ leading spokesman, Juergen Trittin, said he was stepping down and would not seek a leadership post again.

Claudia Roth and another leader, Renate Kuenast, have also resigned. The Greens will elect a new top team next month.

A senior ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected holding any coalition talks with the Greens.

Christian Social Union (CSU) leader Horst Seehofer said the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) would be potential coalition partners, not the Greens, who got 8.4%.

Obama Enrages Republican Warmongers by Pursuing Nuclear Weapons Deal With Iran

    By: Jason Easley

    ———————————————

For what feels like millionth time, President Obama demonstrated that his foreign policy ideology is almost the opposite of George W. Bush. His address to the UN today was comprehensive and insightful. Obama laid out the damned if you do, damned if you don’t position that the United States faces on many foreign policy issues. He expressed no reluctance to act when necessary, but made it clear to the UN that after a decade plus of war, the American people are tired of military conflict, so we expect the rest of the world to step up and do more.

It is a bad day to be a Republican warmonger. If Obama is successful, the entire Republican rationale for war with Iran will evaporate. After living through more than a decade of Bush instigated war, President Obama is attempting to lay the path for lasting peace.

President Barack Obama not only enrages Republican Warmongers; he is going against the whole gang of war profiteers and their allies within the Pentagon. What we call “the military-industrial complex”. President Obama has so much COURAGE and INTEGRITY.

Watch for the media to become EVEN MORE vicious towards him.

I’ve always felt that the main reason why President Obama is met with such vicious opposition is because he is FEARED. People who benefit from the status quo, either on the domestic or the foreign policy front, have sensed since the beginning that Barack Obama is no ordinary leader. He is a REAL people’s president. And he CAN’T BE BOUGHT. He is patient, willing to compromise if he doesn’t have a choice. But his heart and his soul are in the right place. He will push as hard as he can to make this world a better one, with more peace and justice for all.

wondered about this in my comments on the earlier post today.

Bibi is probably pushing for PBO to not shake hands with Iran’s President.

PB has find a way around those who are resisting change

      • 57 Nena20409
        September 24, 2013 at 2:25 pm

Netanyahu has No such power at the UN. I just saw his face on TV shaking PBO’s hand and speaking to him.

Iran’s president will not appear where Alcohol is served. Their religion prohibits it.

        • 58 globalcitizenlinda
          September 24, 2013 at 3:03 pm

I was thinking more about Bibi’s influence with many in the foreign policy establishment and in through some people who are influential in the congress. reports indicate that Bibi has been pushing back against overtures to Iran.

one thing I know for sure is that PBO is not a push-over and that Bibi has no huge independent influence at the UN.

Netanyahu further isolates Israël. He’s like the GOP; he doesn’t GET IT. Yet.

      September 24, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Netanyahu has never shown respect for PBO and I don’t expect him to start now. He as serious ISSUES. GWB was and remains extremely popular in Israel, largely because he allowed Israel to do whatever it wanted during his presidency. PBO refuses to play that game, so Netanyahu feels the need to act out like a spoiled brat. I found GWB kowtowing to Israel very unseemly, seemed like the tail wagging the dog.

POTUS is solid. Determined. Nobody’s fool. Netanyahu is trying to please his base in Israel and his supporters in US.

He wants US to keep supporting all the Modern version Apartheid form of governance that he has pursued for many years. He helped derail the peace in the 1990s and he is at it again. The Citizens of Israel have got to stand up and reject pure nonsense.

This is to our TOD brother, Jovie.

Jovie, I am so sorry your baby has passed on. I hear the pain and sorrow in your writing. I also have heard the love you and your lab shared and the joy she brought into your life.

While you are grieving, would you share pictures and stories with us so we can help you through the process? We are your family and we want to be here for you.

Jovie, Thoughts, sympathy and big (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) sent your way. Our family has had to say goodbye to 3 cats and two dogs over the years. The pain of the loss will eventually lessen…….never go away completely. A new pet will not replace the one you lost, but it will let you share your love and devotion. Know that we love you and understand your pain and loss.

Hey guys just checking in… Thanks for all the nice responses, I appreciate it.
I want my dog back so bad.
She has addisons and she started panting, but she had her shot yesterday.
But she had yet another addisons crash, called doctor at 6 this morning, she didn’t have a good night.
By the time he got there, she had stopped breathing.
I keep wondering what if I brought her to another 25 hour vet etc. it’s killing me, beating myself up.
Anyways, just stopping by to say thanks for the support, it helps, trust me.
    10/03/03 Jovie!!!

Jovie, please don’t beat yourself up with “what ifs”…..I know by your writing you did everything you could for her. We had a little schnoodle who had Cushing’s…..our vet said the opposite of Addison’s. Eventually her life because almost unbearable…she lost her sight, and so much more. We let her live too long because we just could not let her go. What happened to your precious is really a compassionate outcome. If she had Addison’s she was suffering, and I know your love did not want her to suffer more.
She will always be part of you, Jovie. Treasure her sweet life.

I had the same experience with my Calliope. the balance between our not letting her go for us and not for her. Mercifully, she made the decision for us. I have been braver, more selfless since. Jovie, you did everything possible. You will know that, in time.

        • September 24, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Exactly what I was thinking, Carolyn. Jovie, you don’t know that a swift passing wasn’t a huge mercy to your lab — if it got bad you’d have never known until she had been through an awful lot of unnecessary pain. Instead, you did all you could not just to sustain life… but to give her a life worth living.

jovie, wonddring what you did right or wrong – that, unfortunately is part of this process. I have haunting guilt about a mistake I might have made with my beloved Pilgrim.

I said on the chat room for his type of cancer that I was wracked with guilt. I had not made perfect choices, and he deserved Perfect.

A friend on the chat said, “Pilgrim didnt expect perfection. He expected your love, your best intentions. You never wavered in that.”

It was time. She knows that. She was secure in your love and best intentions.

    • September 24, 2013 at 3:39 pm

      Jovie,
I don’t comment here, but read this blog daily. It is indeed sad when one loses a pet. Take comfort in knowing that you gave your lab a
good and loving home, that is the best medicine. I lost my dog 4 years ago and still grieve, but it helps me when I remember that I showed her an awful lot of love and received an awful lot of love in return

I believe the main reason the US delegation used to walk out on Ahmadinejad was because he denied the holocaust. Given that there have been overtures to the Jewish community, I doubt we’re going to see this stuff again.

Lawrence Wilkerson, Former Colin Powell Aide, Blasts McCain, Graham: ‘Bordering On Being Traitors’

    ——————————–

    Wilkerson continued:

And then you come to this country and you find Netanyahu’s allies in people like Senator John McCain, Senator Lindsey Graham — from my home state — and others, who are bordering on being traitors in my view, because they won’t let this president have room to achieve a diplomatic solution. They’re all angry now that he didn’t bomb Syria. . . . And so they’re moving on to Iran.
    .
    .
Wilkerson laid out what he considers to be a reasonable compromise: Iran would “limit its enrichment to what would be normally done under a civilian program,” he said. In addition, the country would submit to “very rigorous inspections” for a period of around five years to guarantee that any program is “purely civilian.”

    Hmm?

    • September 24, 2013 at 2:59 pm

      From TPM:

Ted Cruz is reportedly about to take to the Senate floor for what can most charitably be called a mock filibuster. We’re still sorting out the particulars, but it appears that under the rules governing the Senate’s current debate, on the continuing resolution that would either defund Obamacare or shutdown the government, a true talking filibuster is not permitted.

There are 30 hours for debate, 15 for each side. Cruz may be able to talk for quite a while, consuming the rest of Senate Republicans’ allocated time, but it’s not a filibuster. The technical term for it is … grandstanding.

It may be in the best interests of the pursuit for global peace that Iran’s President Mr. Rouhani did not show up at the UN luncheon.

While the photo of a handshake between him and PBO may have been good for diplomacy, I think that their preliminary meetings need to happen out of sight.

There are so many people in the US and abroad who would be callous enough to use ANY gestures towards reconciliation as political football.

We know how the usual suspects would behave – they would become very vocal in their attempts to undermine any progress between US & Iran – as long as they know PBO wants it.

I just heard President Obama’s UN speech. It shows that he has his finger on the pulse of what’s going on and his ear to the ground to hear what is being said and the understanding of how it is being perceived around the USA and the world. He also is very clear about what the USA will and won’t do.

    God bless President Barack Obama.
