BTW, President Obama’s UN speech and this conversation with President Clinton are not only ‘must view’ they are ‘must view many times and share profusely’ videos.

Spectacular clarity of vision, mission, rationale and specifics characterize both.

#TrustBarack President Clinton certainly does :)

    Bravo Pres. Obama!

GE Chips, TOD. Congrats on first, Bobfr!….. I sent you a DM Chips, but PBS Newshour was on it! Another failed exercise in futility by me :( I am Going to return to the rock that I crawled out from under now………..

Missed all of this today. So grateful for TOD where I can catch up with everything.

  7. September 24, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Non-trivial to say the least …

That had to have been approved by Khamenei or Rohani would never be allowed to return to Tehran …

    • September 24, 2013 at 8:39 pm
    • September 24, 2013 at 9:04 pm

      Absolutely, BobFR.

Those of us old enough to remember the gut-wrenching Iranian hostage crisis / oil crisis / double-digit inflation of the late 1970s know what a BFD resuming a relationship with one of the oldest and most refined cultures in the world would be. (For some reason I was always partial to the Persians during my childhood world history lessons.)

Now the shoe is on the other foot (re: double-digit inflation).

PBO is the right man to make this happen, especially because he (unlike 99.9% of the rest of us) is able to tune-out the noise (MSM, pundits, GOP, emoprogs, etc.) and keep his eye on the prize.

      • September 24, 2013 at 9:12 pm

“For some reason I was always partial to the Persians during my childhood world history lessons.” As was I, Araphao. The 1st substantial essay I ever wrote, in the 5th grade, was on Babylon :)

Yes, President Obama is the type of global leader required to mend the relationship and then expand it. I lived through all those crises and agree with you. If America can perfect an cultural and economic relationship with Iran, Israel can finally be free and the Palestinians can finally begin building their Nation. Iran is the linchpin and President Obama is brilliant enough not only to realize it intellectually, but also realize it effectually.

Considering that the sanctions were triggered by a brutal crackdown on people protesting peacefully for their democracy, and the ill-advised rush to nuclear weaponry, I’m not sure i can take Rouhani’s criticisms of sanctions as being “violence, pure and simple”. It’s a bit more complex. But – it tells us that the sanctions are crippling and working. And not one bullet fired by the United States.

        • September 24, 2013 at 9:21 pm

“But – it tells us that the sanctions are crippling and working. And not one bullet fired by the United States.”

Roger that, theo. And, you betcha Khamenei and his fellow mullahs realize they better cut the crap or the citizens of Iran will do more than attempt peaceful protests. It’s ‘all on the line time’ for those dudes.

I listen to some of the media talk about Ted Cruz and how smart he is, and how he is setting himself up for 2016. My question is how is he doing that? Cruz is appealing to his racists tea party base and he can not win in 2016 with just his tea party party. Ask Mitt ? Cruz is not appealing to any minorities of any kind. The only ones he is appealing to are those right wing “I Hate Obama” tea baggers. What’s smart about that? Ted Cruz is Herman Cain, Michele Bachman, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, all roll up in one ,except Cruz went to Harvard. And he is a Canadian, not an American.

        September 24, 2013 at 9:17 pm

The only one who think anything of Ted Cruz is the media and those right wing tea bagger haters.

        September 24, 2013 at 9:20 pm

The media displays their motives with that kind of praise for Ted Cruz. What has Cruz proposed that would lead one to think he’s “intelligent”, or ready to lead the country and the world? What economic proposals has he offered? What are his views on education, infrastructure, growth, trade, foreign relations, climate change, war, equality, laws, immigration, etc.? What makes them think that Cruz has the best interests of this country and its people at heart?

I would ask these questions of all the potential candidates – not one has articulated a plan that will move this country forward even one inch. Not one has articulated a plan. And why do we have to think about 2016, when the current President was only inaugurated a few months ago? It’s ridiculous. Being President is not just about being elected.

By now you’ve see the creepy Koch Brothers ad trying to discourage young people from signing up for Obamacare.

Well, here’s a timely and spot-on smack back!

  15. September 24, 2013 at 8:46 pm

Some underreported news (since MSM is busy caring and feeding the Cruz missile debacle):

“At the very same time Governor Perry was disparaging Obamacare, and Senator Cruz was trying to kill it, the director of the Texas’ high risk insurance pool (known as THIP) was notifying Texans that Obamacare sign up is set to begin October 1, telling them how great the new program is, and encouraging them to enroll…”

Mr. Bobfr, my granddaughter got a free summer scholarship there four years ago. I was so proud I could not sleep the whole summer.
Lots of hard work for her. I was in another realm of pure proudness(if there is such a thing).
She is in high school, now. Different interests.
She is a better person because of that experience. We are supporters as well. Whenever her studies allow, we go see performances of modern dance and ballet living in NY helps to make it accessible. That is our little “bond bash”. Real special to us.

I would love to be on the committee that personally hands the petition to Upchuck in his office at MSNBC after all 127,000 of us throw up on it, of course.
Now, will they fire his lying ass and give him his slot at Faux News where he belongs.
He and that prick, Mark Halpern should be collecting unemployment insurance.

Aren’t those number amazing, LDS?! Needless to say, the turd, like Halperin, will stay in his job, but it’s soooooo sweet that he’s been exposed on this.

Yes, it is. Keep exposing him.
Maybe, just maybe it will take that silly smirk off his face for a while and humble him enough to become a fact finder since journalist is a word too big for him to understand. I really felt uncomfortable watching him MC that press party last year.
Even then, he was too confident to relax and enjoy himself.
Now, that we know who his pimps are, I have no mercy for him.
He sold his soul. Now, deal with it!

And have you noticed that MSNBC/NBC are in full Save Our Chuckie mode? Every program every hour has been forced to have the Toddler as their guest pundit, hoping that his detractors (petition signers) would have a change of heart and find him absolutely endearing and truthy. Even all the NBC news programs—–they also were forced to mess up their shows with his ugly, smugly mug. Too bad for them—-a big wasted effort—-it has been a huge fail—–everyone barfed.
