Okay, time to buy a lottery ticket. And ironically, I am slaving away today at work and just happened to check my tweets (d/t an ongoing kind of dispute with Goldie Taylor where she told me to get off her TL) and saw the new post.
I think Goldie Taylor tells quite a few to get off her TL!
Japa21 has Gold medal. Congrats.
ACA PLAN COSTS STARTING A ZERO $$$!
@CreditSuisse report bit.ly/15WvAmx estimates ~6.5M could pay $0 for the lowest tier #ACA plan in #Obamacare! http://t.co/zttYuVGH4R— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) September 27, 2013
Bottom Line: Our deep dive analysis of the 48-state public exchange rates from HHS suggests that affordability may not be a roadblock to achieving the CBO projected 7M exchange lives in 2014. Based on our analysis we estimate ~6.5M people alone will be eligible for a $0 premium plan. Simply
put, we don’t see any logical reason why anyone in this population wouldn’t take free healthcare coverage vs. remaining uninsured.
@OFA @Pfeiffer44 @vj44 Per Credit Suisse #ACA could cost ZERO $ for ~ 6.5 Million Americans twitter.com/DaRiverZkind/s… That's indeed a #BFD @VP— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 27, 2013
Thanks for the shoutout, Bobfr!

John McCain looks quite “happy” on the Senate floor today. I’m thinkin’ it’s because he realized overnight that he isn’t Ted Cruz. I feel pretty happy for anybody who isn’t Ted Cruz, myself.
I think JMcCain just likes a good fight
Yep. And he got to “tell off” Cruz yesterday. Ha!
MSM reminds me of watching my goddaughter’s first version of softball when she was about 5 years old. A kid would hit the ball and all the little kids would go chase it, leaving the bases, etc.
Such is the MSM with polls. So Cruz has gained 8 points with ‘Repubican primary voters’ and leads the field. I have a few choice words for the MSM concerning these types of polls:
I’ll add that while the MSM remind you of your goddaughter’s (priceless) first version of softball, it reminds me of my son’s first version of soccer. The soccer field was near an airport. Every time a plane would fly overhead, all of the “action” on the field would stop as each and every kid would stare up at the plane with their oohs and aahs. Then the coach would get their attention again, and they’d continue the game, as if nothing had happened.
Bottom line: It’s funny when kids do it.
Adorable in five year olds. In people making 6, 7 figures to deliver the news or run the government, not so funny.
That’s right. The only one laughing today is McCain. Maybe he realizes if he loses the 6 figures himself, he can always use his wife’s $$$,$$$,$$$.
The image of Ted Cruz lecturing Americans on giving up a chance at health care when his wife has a $40,000/year policy from Goldman-Sachs – it is astounding how stupid so many Americans have become.
And getting more stupid by the day, instead of less stupid.
Looks like the Senate chewed off the “defund O’care” part of the CR and will now send it over to the kids table in the House for another vote. What a waste of time and space these GOP are.
My goddaughter is a surgeon now, with a three year old son. I remember when she wanted to do something herself she’d say to me, “Go be busy.” I don’t care how accomplished she is as a surgeon, she’s still that little girl to me, chasing that ball all over the softball field.
*Go be busy.* <<< the best ehvah!
Tell me about the "still that little girl to me" part. My son's 6'1, 44 y/o, has 5 kids and 2-1/2 grandkids, and he's starting to get a little gray around the temples (which I like to point out to him). But I practically laugh in his face at all of the adult things he tries to say to me now, because I still see him as the little blonde, blue-eyed toddler who'd grab me around the legs if some "stranger" tried to talk to him outside of Mommy World.
Well, that brought a tear to my eye!
Fond memories to share……
I’m so sick of these RWNJ talking points: “Why would any young person buy insurance if they can pay $100 tax instead?”
BECAUSE THEY WON’T HAVE HEALTH CARE. IDIOTS!!!!!
Hope the yung’uns are not the idiots.
It’s astounding, amk, to see billionaires lecture young Americans to NOT get health insurance. We’ll see how many follow their advice.
A new iPhone, concerts, car insurance – plenty of $$ for that. Will health insurance be such a terrible burden? And good grief, I didn’t reach my late teens without understanding that you needed insurance. Then again, I’m ancient.
I think millennials are smarter than we old grumps think. If only they were smart enought to vote in mid-terms.
Ain’t that the truth.
My expectations are that millennials will sign up a lot more than they’ve been given credit for. And that doesn’t me on Day One, but throughout the enrollment period.
Are they truly dumb enough not to know that a car can hit them while they’re crossing a busy street on their cell phones? Okay, maybe I aim for them before honking the horn, but someone has to wake them up.
If the yunguns and the latinos turn out, it’s a a trifecta of congress, senate and presidency in 2014. Talk about lame duck.
That has always been true. Supporters of sane governance are in a healthy majority. Our side doesn’t vote in large enough numbers and Republcians ALWAYS vote. I am continually astounded at the stupidity of American Democrats or Democratic-leaning voters. They have ceded our government to the narrowest fringe and it’s their own damned fault.
And the tax is the greater of $95 or 1% of income, which ever is greater. They can’t seem to get anything right.
The cap is $675, I believe.
GGail, Second and third your comment about depression in regards to having TOD readable on my iPhone. I’ve just checked it……..still very bad and frustrating on my phone.
tnmtngirl, it’s my mobile connection to TOD – 24/7. It’s a habit that I don’t want to break – ugghhhhhhh!!!!
I. Need. A. MOBILE TOD. FIX. NOW
Working on it tnmtngirl!
I’m at work – help me here
Is the House on C Span 1 And the Senate on C Span 2?
The LIES folks tell….
A Time Bomb in waiting. Karma will deliver. That I am sure.
Yeah, those rules about tags and tinted windows only apply to every other driver in Florida, not Zimmerman.
Senate voting now to remove OCare defund language from CR. Next up, vote to fund government through 11/15 instead of 12/15.
Please…can you tell me what CR means? I just can’t keep up with all these initials! Thanks!
Continuing Resolution. It’s a resolution to fund the government in place of an actual budget. The budget won’t get passed because Boehner won’t let it go to committee for reconciliation. This has been the case since PBO was elected. So each year they have to vote to ‘continue’ the resolution to keep the government funded at the level of the previous budget, whatever that is when the last budget was passed.
Thank you cookemom. Now what is ICBINB? I’m joshing…I actually KNOW what that means!
Glad I could help…..now what does ICBINB mean?
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! LOL!
ha, ha, ha, and I actually have tubs of it in the fridge.
In rolling the dice on Iran, Syria and Middle East peace, President Barack Obama has made Secretary of State John Kerry the chief executor of his foreign policy legacy — a role denied to Hillary Clinton. Intriguing comparisons between Obama’s first and second term top diplomats broadened Thursday, when Kerry took charge of nuclear talks with Iran. He already had a heavy load, marshaling peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians and thrashing out a deal with Russia on Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal……
Ubiquitous @StateDept Kerry casts shadow on @HillaryClinton record news.yahoo.com/ubiquitous-ker… "In rolling the dice on Iran, Syria & ME Peace..— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) September 27, 2013
….And it was the White House, not the State Department, which pounced on Russia’s plan to dispose of Syria’s chemical arms. “At the end of the day, it’s the president who is going to be making the big calls,” said a former senior administration official.
It just passed 68-30.
Poor Ted…..he was wandering around on the floor all alone….he seems to be being shunned.
Cruz is up 8 POINTS with Republican primary voters! 2016 is already decided!
who are the other 28 idjits?
Hi All – I have been lurking and am peeking in to ask if it is possible to rethink the font change. The font is cleaner looking but I can’t see a thing with my glasses on. I can somewhat make out the words without my glasses. However, even with my face stuck to the screen most of the comments are a blur and after a while I get headaches because I am putting a strain on my eyes.
I get that the decision is yours to make and I respect that but for folks who are visually challenged the font is a bit problematic.
Hi Nospin, I’ll definitely change it, it seems to be fine on some browsers/platforms, but isn’t working well for others. Leave it with me!
thanks Chips. I can’t see a thing. My eyes are crossing outside of my control and I am seeing doubles. So I figured out a strategy that sort of works… I close one eye and then the other and then I can pick out the letters. Then I write them down in order to figure out the comments. lololol
Pitiful and I look like a total insane person when I do it but I can’t help it as I am addicted to this site.
so thank you for your consideration.
Nospin, and anybody else having font issues…….. If you hold (SHIFT/CONTROL/ and +/- you can zoom in and out of a page like a camera lens. Hope that helps
You know now that you mention that, I’ve found it harder to read this new font with my glasses on–and it’s a new prescription!!!! Until you said this, I was thinking it’s just my iPhone that has the issues, but earlier this morning, I remember I kept moving my laptop so I could easier read TOD.

OMG, the Texas House rethugs are telling flat out lies about Obamacare! Saying a woman with MS has been excluded, that a woman who worked 40 hrs is now cut to 27 hrs – Unbelievable!
So the senate has voted to remove the “Defund Obamacare” language from the bill and are now voting to fund gov’t thru 11/15.
BREAKING NEWS!!!! THE MISSUS GOT A JOB!!!!!!
I actually squealed when she called me. She goes in Monday for orientation. It’s at a home health company. WHEEEEEEEE!!!!
Fantastic news. Congrats to her and to you for all the support I know you have given her.
She called I don’t know how many nursing homes. NO ONE was hiring. The growth field is definitely in home health.
Oh Happy Days!!!!!! That’s great news LL. Congratulations to Mrs LL
Now, the question is how many visits a day and how many days will she work. She couldn’t talk long to anyone as they were all in a meeting. So Monday we’ll find out more.
Congrats LL and to the Mrs! Very happy for you all
What a relief of stress!
Fantastic news LL, the absolute best!!! Huuuuuuuuge congratulations to your wife, THRILLED for you both!
And soon we’ll be helping the economy more. Since this will involve a lot of driving, we’ll have to buy her a more fuel efficient car.
Spoken like a true nitpicking man. Congrats to missus.
Great News. Congratulations LL.
The funny thing is that when she moved out here to be with me in 1999, she had her pick of nursing homes at which to work. Now? Nada. No one was hiring.
CONGRATS, LL! Really happy for you and your family. Must be exhilarating… and a burden lifted.
Congrats to the missus L.L.! Too bad you all don’t live here…I could have put her to work months ago.
Huge congratulations to your wife (and you as the dedicated supporting cast)!
recalling your stories about the tribulations that her prior employer put you through!
the past few months have not been easy but you survived and are now going to thrive.
good luck in all that is ahead
WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!! This calls for a celebration!
‘THIS IS NOT GRIDLOCK’
Your False-Equivalence Guide to the Days Ahead (A Must Read)
BY JAMES FALLOWS
The details are complicated, but please don’t lose sight of these three essential points:
As a matter of substance, constant-shutdown, permanent-emergency governance is so destructive that no other serious country engages in or could tolerate it. The United States can afford it only because we are — still — so rich, with so much margin for waste and error. Details on this and other items below.*
As a matter of politics, this is different from anything we learned about in classrooms or expected before the past few years. We’re used to thinking that the most important disagreements are between the major parties, not within one party; and that disagreements over policies, goals, tactics can be addressed by negotiation or compromise.
This isn’t “gridlock.” It is a ferocious struggle within one party, between its traditionalists and its radical factions, with results that unfortunately can harm all the rest of us — and, should there be a debt default, the rest of the world.
THIS IS A MUST READ. Read the full post here …..

Blitzer is very upset the PBO will not cave……
Here is a post that Blitzer should read after he brushes up on government 101. Also, the post by James Fallows above should be required reading for all journalists.

You should have a dropped a stone on him when you had the chance.
House Rep Scott Perry of Penn is speaking on behalf of Obamacare for his district.
This is the jackass who was on Hardball last night trashing Obamacare.
He made a fool of himself trying to get the talking points out. I have to say…Chris has been very aggressive this week.

yeah, a charmer. what else is new?
But the Republican Tea party racists kind were piss that Miss America wasn’t blonde blue eyes, skinny ass white woman, a true blue American.
Excuse my language, I don’t want to offend anyone.
Haven’t read through all the preceding threads. Any news on Yardarm? I know he has been on twitter, at least enough to do some retweets.
I haven’t seen anything.
Haven’t seen him today Japa, but I’ve only been in and out. He was here yesterday, though, being his usual rascal-ish self.
Believe he wrote on Twitter that he’s waiting for a second opinion? Let’s keep sending up good thoughts for the “rascal” (you said “rascal-ish” first – not I – I’m totally innocent of those charges!).
A second opinion, J? I’ve completely missed this, is Yardarm unwell??
Chips – Yardarm alerted everybody @comment 45 on the “aca is here to stay” post yesterday. I’ve never linked directly to a comment before, but I’ll try this:
J, just DM’ed you!
Thanks, Chips! DM’ed you back.
Ah, thank you J, I missed that comment, hope our beloved pal is doing alright – Yardarm, if you’re out there, we’re thinking of you and wishing you only the best.
Overall a good report on what the debt ceiling is and the consequences of not raising it. Disagree with this line:
And it’s a tough vote because the minority party often tries to extract concessions from the majority in exchange for their support.
Until 2011, that didn;t really happen. But otherwise, pretty fair.
