Good Morning Chips
Good Morning. Up early today huh? When do you get your new puppy, Danny? Coming up soon?
Nooooo. You off again?

And no, green doesn’t suit you.
Just catching up on WHPC. This press is just idiots. And stupid gotcha questions. I don’t know what they don’t understand when the President says he will not negotiate on the Debt Ceiling. Piss pour media.
I probably should have waited until this afternoon, my blood pressure would stay normal.
Hi Roberta. Congrats on 1st.
Good Friday morning Chips and friends from SoCal.
Hello early riser folks. I am about to go and watch the next episode of a UK TV show “Scott & Bailey”. We get it months – if not years after it screens in the UK – but I like it – half soap, half police drama, all entertaining. Watch it if you get a chance
Back later to real all the good news
99ts – was it you I was discussing Broadchurch with?
Saw the final episode (it’s been renewed for a second season). I got more caught up in it, after I’d lost interest after the beginning episodes and it was ‘not-miss’ TV for me. I did not predict the ending at all (although apparently in England they did). But I was unhappy with the writing of the last episode.
The actors were excellent. I think the story (especially the last episode) could have been better crafted and their acting talents would have been better served.
I agree with most of what you say 57 – perhaps there was too much hype – and I think the last episode treated the watchers as if they were quite stupid in that they had to explain what was so obvious. I did pick the end (and told Mr 99 before the last episode) – they were beginning to run out of suspects & he was a bit strange throughout the story.
I liked Olivia Coleman (the police lady) – have seen her in a few things – most recently replays of Midsomer Murders.
I hope the 2nd series is better – this started so well, I was disappointed. See if you can find Scott& Bailey – it is series 3 I am watching at the minute – it is getting better every episode – tonight was the best to date (Ep 4)
Yeah, I expected better. The hype, apparently. I have not seen Scott & Bailey here but I’ll look for it.
Morning, 99ts. Love Scott & Bailey. The characters are so interesting in a crazy & hilarious way! Also love the idiomatic dialogue.
UK character actors are amazing – we see much UK TV in my world & you seem to know the character names – but not always the actor names – they are so tied up in the parts. And the next year the same person can appear in a completely different part – & I still don’t know their name!
I know what you mean! I see a lot of the same great actors in a multitude of roles in these interesting British dramas. Someone here mentioned Last Tango in Halifax so now I’m watching that.
Saw that a few months ago – Derek Jacobi (whose name I do know) I first remember in “I, Claudius” in the 1970s – and how very different is his role in Last Tango in Halifax.
Exactly, it’s a bit of an adjustment!
It’s a great show, 99ts. The two characters are terrific.
Can I ask, do you watch it on cable or download? We have very poor quality (& very expensive) cable – and it doesn’t go anywhere near us regardless, – so I have to wait for one of our main networks to show the series. Could be a problem next year as Fox (cable of course) is apparently getting the BBC shows – so no idea when they might be shown by a newtwork. At the minute our public broadcaster (ABC) shows most of the UK shows.
I watch it all on YouTube:
Ooooh – I’ve never looked there! Silly me
Honestly don’t know how we get it 99ts. My husband find it and we watch it and I’m ashamed to say I don’t know how he does it.

I need to rant. My daughter works for a consulting firm in the DC area which has many contracts with NIH. By next week there is nothing new in the pipeline and she may be laid off and even worse the company may go under. This is all due to sequestration. I am upset and furious. I am sure this is happening to other firms that do work for the govt.
Diane, this is the time for activism. Call OFA or join in your local Democratic Party. Call you congressman everyday if necessary. Work for Democratic candidates for 2014. Wake up your neighbors and tell them not to be fooled by Chris Christie since Republicans at any level are not their friends. People did not get angry enough at the sequestration and it seemed to Republicans that they had gotten a pass on it. Make sure they know you haven’t given them a pass. You’re mad and you’re not going to take it.
I do all you mentioned. I also write letters to the local paper. This part of South Jersey at the shore where I live is very republican and the mainland area is Tea Party repub. Also the south Jersey dems have somewhat of an alliance with Christie. He calls it bipartisanship, but I call it sleazy politics of the worst kind. You scratch my back, I scratch yours so we both stay in power but the people’s needs be damned.

I find it deeply sad when my excellent doctor has fallen for all the Republican lies on Obamacare, because there were ‘seminars’ given on it. By who? The Koch Bros.?!?!
I’ll be seriously pissed if he isn’t included in one of the Exchanges. There are disturbing reports that the major medical centers in Chicago will not participate (at least the first year, I’m hoping). I have had to pay for all of my asthma care out of pocket my entire life no matter what insurance I had (and I currently have none). I would, for once, like to have my primary illness taken care of by insurance. He’s been my doctor for 28 years and we have a delicate balance with my meds. I’m unwilling to just try another doctor.
We’ll we’ll know in a few days, won’t we?
57, please hang in. It will be a bumpy road at first, but I think eventually the doctors who won’t participate at first will find themselves in the minority and increasingly shut out. Anything new takes time.
That is also my prediction. If there are even decent numbers of people signing up, other plans, hospitals, doctors are not going to shut themselves out.
I’m just so anxious to get the information – IL won’t release anything until October 1!
Tell him that he went to a seminar put together by people who are intent on making it FAIL.
Tell him to try listening to these folks who want it to SUCCESS and THEN make an opinion based on FACTS:
Doctors for America has a listing of webinars that they’re offering on their website http://www.drsforamerica.org/
SUCCEED / SUCCESS… you get the picture! My hands sometimes won’t type what’s in my head (or heart).
Happens to me all the time.
I see NBC has Chuck Todd at the opening of the President Washington Library.
What next…grand openings of New Wal-Marts ?

If anyone thought that Mr. West would amount to anything outside of Politics, the answer is a resounding no. As a Politician you had better have other skills other than being a professional asshole. Sad to say, with President Obama being elected again, there just isn’t a market out there for black male Republicans that say the stupidest shit they can think of.

Noticed that too Mary, afraid I don’t know. Did anyone see her mention going away or anything?

There is sometimes a gap in her posts I think.

Good morning Chips!
Good morning TOD!
It is Friday….finally.
Well, what a week. It is bring n us closer to affordable health care thanks to Obamacare.
My niece who loves in NJ is listening to negative information. I referred her to here and I told her that I would answer any questions after.
My heart felt prayers for Jovie and Mr. Yardam this morning is that peace prevails throughout their mind, body and soul.
Have a great day everyone!
Love our President. So glad that I voted for him twice!
Sending healing, peaceful, positive energy to yardarm & Jovie. TOD family keeps them in our hearts.
LDS, if NJ had a Democrat governor who worked as hard as Martin O’Malley in MD, the state would be flooded with positive information. We are seeing the cost of having Republican governors.
Jackie, it is so funny that you said that.
I told her the exact same thing. It is the state that you live in which makes a difference.
Don’t temp me. I am that close to moving to MD.
Good Morning…..I really don’t know what to say….drama, drama, drama…..and if there was anyone who was inclined to give David Gregory the benefit of the doubt…well…not anymore……and I have a prediction….a large part of the population that needs Obamacare will make no effort to get it……and why is that….b/c they are basically so unaware of what is going on that unless they are MADE to sign up they are not going to….and a tax penalty isn’t going to have any threat b/c a good majority do not pay taxes…..and for the most part these folks are registered R’s….and the only message they have received is Obamacare is bad but doesn’t have anything to do with me so I’ll just go and buy the newest violent video game or Duck Dynasty merchandise instead of spending any money on healthcare………..don’t get me wrong…I know that a lot of folks will benefit from Obamacare and are responsible citizens……but here in NC there are a lot of people that if it isn’t free and given to them or if they are not physically made to sign up….it ain’t gonna happen……..don’t get mad at me for being negative, I just see it as a problem from my observations.
Kathryn, I’ve no doubt you’re right and will be for some time. But eventually, the word gets out, even in NC, especially when the tax implications kick in for those who don’t get the insurance. And, of course, any major illness that leaves people helpless or bankrupt will help to sharpen the mind.
I hope you are right Jackie, but I tell you…I’m not optimistic about NC…..I think we are becoming more like Texas every day that passes…..just scary….in 70 yrs I have never been so pessimistic and embarrassed…
Good morning and Happy Friday, TODville. Keep up the good work on Obamacare and steady yourselves for the week ahead and all the drama queen dummies in Congress. #FORWARD
I hope the world improves FAST for Yardarm and Jovie.
What happened to Yardarm? I’ve been out of the loop this week due to a very hectic work schedule….
He’s having serious health issues. I don’t know the particulars but he may be going into the hospital soon. He left a message yesterday in one of the mid-day threads, I think.
Good morning TODers,
Beautiful Day. Dear son said he wants to take me to Zappos today to buy me shoes. Am I lucky or what?
Anyway, Chips how are you this morning? I’m just editing a piece I wrote all night last night for posting when you think it best. It’s on Obamacare and Ayn Rand. Will alert you when ready
Excellent, Zizi – our blog tyrants have been on fiiiiiire this week! I’ll have R&S ready soon, just DM me when you’re done and I can post it after that – or later if you need more time. Thanks a billion Zizi.
The days of saying that some people don’t know about the ACA or Obamacare are over. If you don’t know about it, it is nobody’s fault but your own. I’m sick and tired of the argument being, “Obama and the Whitehouse didn’t do a good job of messaging.” Bullshit!!! If your ass know about “Breaking Bad” or some other bullshit ass TV show, well then goddamnit your ass should know about your fucking health and if you have insurance or not.
Dear Don, you said how I was feeling last night.
Going to sleep knowing that at least millions of people will have affordable health care helped me to calm down. This is a choice, something millions of people never had before. But as I posted below, people say a lot of things until they or a family member really needs help. Talk is cheap. So glad we have a President that acts and backs what he says with facts.
Right, I mean what type of person would want to stop millions of people from getting health insurance.? I think the number of people that will sign up for OBC or ACA will be much higher than even the administraion thinks.
is there even ONE Beltway pundit who will step forward and admit he/she got everything wrong abt Obama/Syria???; nyti.ms/1av0KBl— Eric Boehlert (@EricBoehlert) September 27, 2013
Think about this for a moment, before the end of 2014 the U.S. and Iran might have some sort of Nuclear Disarmament agreement signed sealed and delivered. President Obama planted those seeds back in 2009, and now they are starting to bring forth fruit.
That is so true.
They know it is going to work. They want to keep people sick and damn near dead for the simple reason that, within itself, is a money making business.
I have been saying POB arriving on the scene has uncovered so much evil in some, frustration in most of us.
It is seeping out of the seams from all around the whole world. Purging has to happen before there is a shift. It is not going to feel good all the time. But damn! This is so much better than the Bush era.
telling that DC press initial, instinctive response was W's right to invade Iraq and Obama's wrong to seek peace w/ Syria; #libmedia— Eric Boehlert (@EricBoehlert) September 27, 2013
The situation reminds me more and more of the “Black Bush” sketch on the Chappelle Show (which dealt with how the press would have acted differently had GWB been Black. The sketch was always one of my favorites, and time has shown it to be not only funny but accurate.
Kathryn Kivett, the problem is these R’s and anyone else is whose minds are closed to good health will say anything until they or their families really have to use it and really need it. These are grown folks and no one can MAKE them do anything. If they and their so-called representatives are hell bent on not wanting good health coverage, we just have to be patient and wait and see.
The question I would have to ask anyone who would try to discourage me is: Are you insured? If they are, then the next question would be: What would you suggest for me and my family?
Like It said, until some people are in emergency situations, they will say anything.
For instance, the recent floods in Colorado make the representatives who voted against helping the Sandy victims look like complete fools. How date you think this will not happen to your state? Weather, health and death cannot be predicted. It is better to be prepared.
This is going to work because it is humanly right.
I agree one 100%, LDS.
Sorry for all of the mistakes….did not have my green tea.also, meant to say,”humanly and morally right”.
It’s a damn shame so many people had to go broke and die unnecessarily because of no universal health care.
The richest country in the world. Oil companies make billions. CEO’s bonuses more than some people’s lifetime salaries. They have great insurance coverage. You mean to tell me my health and life is not important?
And we have those who have the audacity to question this and the President of the U.S. who has the balls to take this all the way?
Something is wrong with this picture…..
I agree with what you say……but……there are so many in NC that I don’t care how good the messaging has been, don’t think it has anything to do with them and will make no effort…I hope you all are right…..
Katherine, I am from the south and I hear you loud and clear. But the state where you live has a lot to do with everything.
It is not about the messaging, you are so right. It is the Messenger.
It will take serious illnesses and damn near death experiences before it has everything to do with them.
And we just have to be patient and be encouraged. Without good health nothing else matters. Preventive health is priceless.
This will help and ,of course, those who have and are making billions off our sickness in this does not WANT this to work.
Just look at the whole picture.. Our First Lady promotes healthy eating to combat obesity. Our President cares about everyone being covered with insurance at affordable costs. Do you realize how much money these lobbyist and their pimps would lose?
They want this not to work because $$$$ and power is the game. They could care less about us and the U.S. as long as they could hide their stash in Switzerland.(even that is about to change) and have excellent health care, retire richer than rich, to hell with everybody else.
Sorry, to rant. Green tea is real good this morning. A different brand from CosCo……
Good Morning Chips and everybody. The font in the comments section is different now. Too compact. I would like to have the old font back.
A DISPLAY OF ASTONISHING CONTEMPT FOR DEMOCRATIC NORMS
House Republicans Issue Ransom Demand: Implement Romney Plan or the Economy Gets It
By Jonathan Chait
The second point is a normative one. The fact that a major party could even propose anything like this is a display of astonishing contempt for democratic norms. Republicans ran on this plan and lost by 5 million votes. They also lost the Senate and received a million fewer votes in the House but held control owing to favorable district lines. Is there an example in American history of a losing party issuing threats to force the majority party to implement its rejected agenda?
LH, House Republicans are putting on such an astonishing display of sabotage and outright treason that I’m wondering if it isn’t going to be necessary to take this to an emergency session of the Supreme Court. I realize the Court is not on our side, but when one party is clearly subverting the Constitution, the Supreme Court itself is at stake. The Constitution says that the US must pay its debts. Can the willful caprice of a rogue rump group in the House unilaterally overturn a key provision of the Constitution? Were the SCOTUS to decide that such a group could not override the Constitution, it would settle the debt ceiling issue forever. Is this something the president has had in mind all along–lure the Republicans into acting like such obvious saboteurs that even the SCOTUS justices would be alarmed? Deal with it once and then no president would have to confront this again. I hope it doesn’t come to this. Corporations and rich GOP donors must be furious at House Republicans right now for undermining their profits. Maybe they’ll manage to rein in the crazy kiddies in Washington that they helped create. If not, we, as a nation, may have to bite the bullet and settle this once and for all. Otherwise all of our well being will be help in constant hostage by crazy people whenever they decide to be destructive.
My State Needs Obamacare. Now.
By STEVE BESHEAR ( Steve Beshear, a Democrat, is the governor of Kentucky.)
Frankly, we can’t implement the Affordable Care Act fast enough.
As for naysayers, I’m offended by their partisan gamesmanship, as they continue to pour time, money and energy into overturning or defunding the Affordable Care Act. It’s shameful that these critics haven’t invested that same level of energy into trying to improve the health of our citizens.
They insist that the Affordable Care Act will never work — when in fact a similar approach put into effect in Massachusetts by Mitt Romney, then the governor, is working.
So, to those more worried about political power than Kentucky’s families, I say, “Get over it.”
The Affordable Care Act was approved by Congress and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. It is the law of the land.
Get over it … and get out of the way so I can help my people. Here in Kentucky, we cannot afford to waste another day or another life.
Morning everyone…Happy Friday! In reference to Ladyhawke’s post above….can it be any more clear that the RWNJ’S have nothing but contempt for their constituents and the American people? I think this dog and pony show makes it absolutely clear! They all live in their own version of Fantasy Island. VOTE THEM OUT!
Good morning! Happy friday to all, just had to drop in and say how awesome it is to live in a state that elects seriously adults (D) to run the show and work with the president to implent the ACA. MN has some of the lowest rates available on its MNSure exchange. Add to that a balanced budget, gay marriage, etc feels good to be moving forward.
Good morning Kyle. You are definitely one of the lucky ones. What a difference blue makes!
Texas' new teen pregnancy prevention website doesn't mention birth control thkpr.gs/1fMrwZE #sigh— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) September 27, 2013
In any normal nation, this week would represent a time of hope and joy as amazing strides are made toward peace in the Middle East and affordable health care will finally be available to all Americans. If the US had a sane Congress, we would be moving forward to fund jobs, infrastructure, education and immigration reform. The economy would be bustling and the media would be promoting the breakthrough opportunity to insure our families. People would be informed and the president would be enjoying record high approval ratings because he has literally accomplished the impossible– brought our country from the brink, reinvigorated it, improved our standing the world and expanded opportunities that once seemed impossible. But the US is sick, brought low by the disease of hatred, racism and greed that is busily trying to rot the underpinnings of our democracy even as we try to move forward. We have one chance to heal this rot in 2014. The Republican Party has proven itself unworthy to govern. They are incapable of it and they must never again be given the reins of power in any branch of national government. If they want to rant, rave and do insane gymnastics as a minority, let them go for it. But they can’t be the deciding vote in anything. We have no choice but to fight like hell to save our country and our children. It’s war and we have to win.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
MTP and David Gregory to reward Cruz with yet MORE AIRTIME for his bogus rant!
The Senate has resumed consideration of HJRes 59, the CR.
This is where they will take a vote to delete the ObamaCare defunding provision and pass the Continuing Resolution for government funding. Voting starts at 12:30.
Riiiiiise and Shine!
Compromises, trade-offs, and, yes, unintended consequences have been part of every reform in American history. The minimum wage and child labor laws took money out of the pockets of employers. Social Security raised taxes on workers. Today, Americans cherish those programs because the good far outweighs the bad — because what the country gained, in economic security, health, and freedom, more than made up for what it lost. The same standard should apply today.
Morning MUST READ!
Mooorning all you O’s!!!!!! It’s another great getting up day ’round the ol TOD stream, right?
So we’re getting down to the wire for the big sign-up day!!! I can’t wait for the first reports that will come out on participation levels. Let’s all remember to focus on the positives, ignore the negatives (there will be many reported).
I agree with Don and others who say that anyone who doesn’t know by now about OCare has chosen to remain willfully ignorant. They will remain that way until the decide that going against one’s own self interest doesn’t bode well in the long run.
Mainly though, I believe that there will be teabags standing in line to sign up for ACA. Like the election, where ‘pubs voted for PBO, they will never admit it. Those who object the most, doth protest too much.
For me, there will be no gnashing of teeth over MSM coverage, no hand-wringing about the cable jockeys, nor the RWNJs adjusting their tin foil hats. I’ll just continue to spread the good news to friends and family and bask in the knowledge that we get to put another tally in the ‘yes we did’ column.
Jump to the end, scroll backwards.. It’s just easier some days! Morninyall!
