Barb! A much delayed Congrats on 1st, honey! Yeehaw!
Hi Barb from a Toronto 4 Obama supporter. Can never remember a new thread in the middle of my night shift.
Upbeat article from Bloomberg on the first day of ObamaCare exchanges open: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-01/obamacare-exchanges-debut-with-websites-down-and-state-delays.html
Obamacare Demands Signals Potential Success for Exchanges
By Alex Nussbaum – Oct 1, 2013 9:01 PM PT
“Obamacare’s opening day drew millions of consumers to the law’s core insurance exchanges, offering supporters and investors confidence that if the websites can stay up and running, customers will follow…”

They’re a weird mob amk – seems that some prefer to be the enemy within.
Complete and full set of nutters controlling american system of government totally sux.
For some reason I thought Morning Joe might have realized the GOP has a problem – Joe has the man who inflicted Sarah Palin on the unsuspecting lower 49 – who is NEVER right about anything – Bill Kristol explaining that all the GOP wants to do is remove 2 parts of ObamaCare – and Joe explaining that “both sides do it” as to why congress is dysfunctional.
Joe concludes that it was the left of the left policies of PBO that gave rise to the teaparty.
ALL of the GOP is insane. I rest my case.
Morning joke is just as wacko as the right wing radical terrorists Tea Party Republicans. Joke, meaning Joe is a liar.
He was talking in circles because he knows the Republicans are to blame……

Shutdown coverage fails Americans (A MUST READ)
Commentary: We need journalists to hold politicians accountable for extremist actions, not to enable them
By Dan Froomkin
The truth of what happened Monday night, as almost all political reporters know full well, is that “Republicans staged a series of last-ditch efforts to use a once-routine budget procedure to force Democrats to abandon their efforts to extend U.S. health insurance.” (Thank you, Guardian.)
And holding the entire government hostage while demanding the de facto repeal of a president’s signature legislation and not even bothering to negotiate is by any reasonable standard an extreme political act. It is an attempt to make an end run around the normal legislative process. There is no historical precedent for it. The last shutdowns, in 1995 and 1996, were not the product of unilateral demands to scrap existing law; they took place during a period of give-and-take budget negotiations.
But the political media’s aversion to doing anything that might be seen as taking sides — combined with its obsession with process — led them to actively obscure the truth in their coverage of the votes. If you did not already know what this was all about, reading the news would not help you understand.
Excellent, Ladyhawke! This should be on R/S!
This is why we need to atch Al jazeera and tweet this article.

From a distance it seems that the political right in the USA cannot exist without someone to fight. Nixon fought Vietnam (he did not want the peace), Reagan had his cold war with the USSR & a few other spats, Bush I had his Iraq war & Bush II had 8 years of war.
President Obama is a President for peace, he sees no purpose in war and the horrors it entails – so the GOP having no “enemy” to attack, turns on its own and the President and the people of America. I see nothing but war mongering villains – they would pay to annihilate people who live far from home, but will not pay for food and health care for their own people. Such a society cannot survive.
Why the media aids and abets them is beyond any logical understanding.
Spot on. Governing based on fear & anxiety is the rw mantra. Everywhere.
Good insight, 99. Sad.

The political press should be the public’s first line of defense when it comes to assessing who is deviating from historic norms and practices, who is risking serious damage to the nation, whose positions are based in irrational phobias and ignorance rather than data and reason.
Press is constitutionally protected…but when the press is becoming more and more corporately own and serve the interests of their owners they betray that public trust…

Good Morning TOD
Y’all have got to read Alex Baldwins Timeline on Twitter this morning. He is taking Morning Joke and his guest to the woodshed. Now I hear he is going to have his own show on MSNBC soon and I sure hope he doesn’t turn out to be another emoprog cause he sure isn’t bowing to his Corporate masters this morning.
Check it out and pass the popcorn….
The story on Huff and Puff about his tweets this morning. hehehehe

Hey Jovie – good to “see” you on TOD – and Kristol is a nut – also permanently on the wrong side of history
Hope you’re feeling better, Jovie. You’ve been missed.

His show starts on 10-11-13. A week from this Friday. But once he is on…..MSNBC would not allow him to criticize the Mourning Joke…..
They claim the media is Liberal……Yet on all the channels, Not one has a block of 3 hrs or more in the Morning starting the day as a Cheering station as the rest …..CNBC, MSNBC, Fox, FBN, Bloomberg,CNBCW, CNN, HLN, CNNI, AJAM, BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Television, etc have been extreme critics of pres Obama.
All people like me ask is a fair and accurate reporting. But the DC/NY corporate media would not do that form of Journalism.

… [Robert] Gibbs said during a Tuesday MSNBC appearance that the White House’s best move is to “sit back and watch.” He also put all the fault for the government shutdown on Republicans, declining to cast fault at the Democrats in the Senate who refused to discuss the House funding bill that passed and was sent their way.
… Mr. Gibbs suggested [President] Obama stand fast and refuse to talk about any Obamacare concessions … It’s not his job to fix the budget impasse — it’s the job of those who started the mess, suggesting again the tea party crowd… . … Mr. Gibbs guessed the shutdown would last between five and six days. … “And Republicans will probably evaluate after that,” he said. …

That’s just beautiful Zizi, it’s going on top of R&S! Thank you!!!

I told u my mother bought me a new puppy and I am not ready for it. She's cute but she's a terror. I want my old dog http://t.co/2oqWoc70NB— Mercury (@Mercury1311) October 02, 2013
You see she’s crazy?
Aw, you’ve gotta train the puppy, honey.
It’ll be worth the work. In the meantime, keep shoes and loose paper out of reach. And get her a blanket and some new toys.
She is cutie pie. You gonna love her.
Jovie….that’s why there are crates that you need to train it to be in so this won’t happen. It’s not cruel to crate train a dog. If you leave the dog to his own devices…you’ll be angry and pissed at this puppy all the time! That’s not fair to either one of you. Check sites about crate training, make sure that he gets enough exercise (he needs LOTS) because…what he did here…is probably from boredom. This will take some time, some patience and some love. You could have a wonderful dog here…but you have to make him that way:) Good luck…and look for the good things.
THIS x 1000! Bless you, Jovie. ((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))
well she’s not crazy.. she’s a puppy.. or maybe puppy = crazy Jovie, she needs you, perhaps you don’t feel you need her right now, because you’re grieving, but theres no way she comprehends that- of course you already know that. Maybe you and she can go to a class together? If its affordable and available.. it will get her on the training track.. and even possibly help you to focus your mind a little away from grief. Just a thought. She is so adorable.
She is giving all she has for she wants you to grow with her and show her your way.
Lovely to hear from you.
Love is in the air for your new puppy. She is lovely.

Did The Republicans Actually WANT To Close Down The Government All Along?
And it’s not just Maddow who is pointing out that this wasn’t just a bunch of random berserk teabaggers causing this. This is official, well-planned out Republican Party strategy, as Jonathan Chait explained to New York magazine readers yesterday.
In January, demoralized House Republicans retreated to Williamsburg, Virginia, to plot out their legislative strategy for President Obama’s second term. Conservatives were angry that their leaders had been unable to stop the expiration of the Bush tax cuts on high incomes, and sought assurances from their leaders that no further compromises would be forthcoming. The agreement that followed, which Republicans called “The Williamsburg Accord,” received obsessive coverage in the conservative media but scant attention in the mainstream press. (The phrase “Williamsburg Accord” has appeared once in the Washington Post and not at all in the New York Times.)
But the decision House Republicans made in January has set the party on the course it has followed since. If you want to grasp why Republicans are careening toward a potential federal government shutdown, and possibly toward provoking a sovereign debt crisis after that, you need to understand that this is the inevitable product of a conscious party strategy. Just as Republicans responded to their 2008 defeat by moving farther right, they responded to the 2012 defeat by moving right yet again. Since they had begun from a position of total opposition to the entire Obama agenda, the newer rightward lurch took the form of trying to wrest concessions from Obama by provoking a series of crises.
