Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
It is a great day in the Obamacare neighborhood – woot!
It’s amazing how easily the “GOP = terrorists” reference has now become widely accepted even in corporate media. That’s a good thing
I read that Chuck Todd (!) actually did a segment on this on the nightly news. Wonder why the change of heart, Chucky……
Zizi, I think the references have become readily accepted because GOP’s actions are clearly a replica of terrorist behaviour. Now that the media is being taunted into calling a spade a spade, I hope there will be a bigger and bigger upsurge of indignation. As we here all know the GOP has been undermining governance for far too long, without true real-world consequences.
Morning y’all, from a cool, wet Pacific Northwest. Whew.
There are days when teh Stoopid is just too much to stomach. I am well documented here at my efforts to calm down nervous seniors about ACA – why good Dem’s are willing to believe RW lies and not willing to believe me is a frustration.
And today, some new frustrations with teh stoopid. People in their 30′s – both highly educated. They carry individual insurance (one’s an actress, one’s a part time college teacher). The actress went into a tailspin because she got a letter from her ins. company (private insurance) that they were not in compliance with ACA and would be cancelling her policy by January 1. Is she living under a rock?!? She’ll do better on the exchanges, for God’s sake. Obviously, her current policy is shit, she’ll qualify for subsidies, etc. The college teacher (!) is bemoaning her high deductible plan. Go on the exchanges, you idiots!
They are both Democrats. They are both furious at Republicans over the shutdown. But they don’t know that they can get insurance?
she got a letter from her ins. company (private insurance) that they were not in compliance with ACA and would be cancelling her policy by January 1
Wouldn’t that mean they will cancelling all the policies for non-compliance ?
I’m beginning to question her intelligence, frankly. I’d like to see the letter. I do think that junk policies can still exist, insurance companies are not forced to participate in the exchanges. Why an individual would choose junk insurance when they can get comprehensive, subsidized insurance on the exchanges is beyond me anyway. How can you be obviously decently informed on the shutdown and know nothing about getting yourself affordable health insurance on the exchanges?
She played my daughter in a play I was in about 10 years ago. She was a pain in the ass then.
In all likelihood, she had what is called a limite benefit plan: high deductible, but more importantly, a very reduced benefit for hospital care (say $5,000 per tay) and a limited annual and lifetime max, say $50,000 annual and $100,000 lifetime). Under ACA those caps no longer can be in place.
When you hear about ACA premiums being 95% higher than current, this is what is being talked about. Premiums for this kind of policy can be as low as $50/month. However, the lowest level ACA plan can still have a high deductible but no caps on benefits so if anybody uses argument about ACA costing more, tell them to check into comparable coverage and then come back to you.
Got into this with a friend from Florida the other day, who was buying into Scott’s misleading apples-to-oranges comparison of policies.
The girl I’m talking about above has a series of health issues. She should be jumping up and down about the exchanges. They are designed specifically for someone like her.
Instead of letting myself get annoyed, I’m welcoming the opportunity to inform, one person at a time. Silver lining and all.
Of course, it would help if Illinois’ plans were not a secret unless you can create an account at healthcare-gov. I do not understand why the Illinois site can’t at least list the plans while those of us are patiently waiting to be able to log on.
hope that you take time to calm these people down and then inform them (very SLOWLY and REPEATEDLY) about WHY it is okay to enroll in ObamaCare instead of what potentially-crappy insurance they are mourning for
Already seeing folks concerned Obama & Dems will cave because of invite to WH. Chill folks. No evidence of that happening, just the opposite— john miller (@deaconmill) October 02, 2013
Why do I think this “caving” narrative is being instigated by the media – none other than MSNBC? Just to get Dems attacking each other once again and distracted from GOP’s crap.
Indeed – if they’re already using the word “caving”, then THEY are the ones caving – not President Obama. They ask (tell) him to stand strong and not negotiate, but at the first sign of change, they start hyperventilating. People need stronger spines. The President has one made of steel.
Japa, I swear some people enjoy worrying. If they actually supported the president, they would relax. He, more than anyone on the planet, knows how to deal with terrorists. If they don’t support the president then their opinions are worthless.
I’m convinced some of the worriers will do/say anything for attention. They can’t be so dumb as to not have learnt YET that PBO CAN lead. Can they?
@deaconmill:@tarr4o Some people enjoy worrying. Guess they need reminders PBO has a track record with terrorists. http://t.co/EFWrViOEPj— Vick C. (@sonamie) October 02, 2013
Unbeliebably, AP tweeted that since Boehner agreed to the mtg. it meant that PBO was now “open to negotiating” ——wonder where they got that notion—-from Boehner’s office? Seemed like it was a set up to make it all “Obama’s fault” if shutdown continues.
Also Boehner’s office released a statement that mtg.was a hopeful sign that PBO was willing to “bridge our differences”.
That’s some of why we’re seeing premature frets about Obama and Dems caving. Taking these partisan and purposeful tweets and releases as fact, with no evidence of same.
Let’s all remember not to let the media or anybody else take away our JOY that Obamacare was rolled out and is going strong!
Bringing this over from the last thread:
Big crowd of Democratic reps led by Pelosi for debut of immigration bill at House— Benjy Sarlin (@BenjySarlin) October 02, 2013
Here are the Democrats – doing what the people sent them to Washington to do. Anyone who tells you that there is no difference between GOP and Dems is lying, and probably a closeted GOP or GOP sympathizer….
HF, it always makes me happy to to see Nancy Pelosi in the lead. I miss her leadership so much and this country, did they but know it, owes her a world of gratitude for any health care benefits they get from ACA. So glad she’s not giving up the fight on immigration.
So true, Jackie.
As I read this it popped into my head that Nancy Smash must be having the time of her political life – working with a president who has goals/objectives and who moves to accomplish them with intelligence, strategy AND integrity (despite the bugs fluttering around in their path)!
I Love it.
Love it that the dems are springing the next trap for the thugs.
YES and it’s a biggie. Boehner is completely lost.
She was bitching bit time about the computer glitches. ZZZZzzzzzzzz.
She got lots of pushback.
I just realized I left that comment in the wrong place. Sorry!
Oh! The threads got all tangled.
great move to push the immigration debate forward – it is past time the nation completed this very necessary step
Good day TOD!!! Thank you, Chips!!!

This really is cycling out of control. Ryan now says he’ll push for fiscal concessions with the debt limit and Boehner is reported as being very happy about that, so much so that he’s probably willing to ride the shutdown out so this whole thing turns into a mega-crisis. The lies and distortions about this are brazen and in full swing and who knows what else they have up their sleeve. At this point, it’s really, really, really insane.
they got their EFFING SEQUESTER. We are DONE giving them any effing CUTS.

f- these republicans trying to act as if they’re reasonable now! seriously, we can’t let them get away with this! peter king has been enabling THE CRAZY for years. john mccain brought sarah palin to the national scene. these people are as crazy as any of the birthers. they are one and the same. no separation. all modern republicans are literally f-ed in the head, similar to serial killers. both bring pain, misery, and death into the world, then laugh about it later as if it’s all just a game to them. all republicans….you own this!
their vote says it all…the House Voted…232/190…only 2 GOP reps voted with the DEMs…and in the Senate all 46 GOP voted to not strip the Hse Amendments…
Talk is cheap…let’s look at what they do…
I am wondering what happened to all that public option nuts like that firebagger dame Ms norquist hamsher, the few dkos klowns and such. Have their heads essploded yet?
Oh, nyceve on DKos wrote a piece yesterday which just lurved lurved lurved Obamacare. After, you know, she spent the past 3 years bashing it.
ah, nyceve – the know it all health insurance expert. There used to be another cohort with her whasshername.
thaaat’s the one. I can’t believe I wasted 3 years in that hate filled cesspool.
I totally blame chipsticks for it.
I blame Obama
I leave my computing machine for an hour and I come back to this
slinkerwink, who got banned, and then readmitted to the bosom of DKos
She’s the one that finally drove me away from dkos. She was toxic.
I saw that. I wandered over there for the first time in months. It was hilarous.
I’ve seen Hamsher RT’d where she expressed her displeasure. She’s so predictable.
so still the bitter one, huh? what nutters.
She was bitching big time about the computer glitches. ZZZZzzzzzzzz.
She was AWFUL yesterday. I stumbled on a tweet and actually engaged her for awhile. It was effing insane.
She’s pissed that the law passed, was upheld by the SCOTUS, re-affirmed by the people in 2012 elections, and successfully implemented. She’s just beside herself with rage and venom, and it is an ugly thing to witness.
My heart goes out to you 57, and I hope your blood pressure didn’t rise too much on account of Hampster.
and I’m having blood pressures issues as it is! Doctor is pissed at me. I will be so RELIEVED when I am able to sign up for health insurance.
Our VP Joe will also be at the 5:30pm WH meeting. COOL.
Good, PBO will have his consigliere there.
My man Joe!
Execellent choice of words there LL
I’m always glad when Joe’s in the room.
Boehner & McConnell are about to have the most unpleasant experience of their entire life. As it should be.

I don’t even think the effin’ Republicans understand any of this. They are too stupid to see the forest for the trees – literally, in this case. And now they’re keeping America from seein’ the trees!
But don’t most of these small business owners support gop and hate obamacare? Now gop shutdown should teach them something about both.
Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any teachable moments for this crowd. Too blinded by bigotry and/or the almighty dollar.
You want to know when a hurricane is coming and be prepared for disaster relief, you asshat Republican governors – well, the feds are shut down. Do it yourself! Jindal, Scott, Perry, the Idiot in MS – go right ahead. Take care of your own. All your constituents that you keep poor and stupid who rely on the Feds to take care of them.
Do it all by yourself. Please. Secede. Go right ahead.
Thought I’d turn that into a tweet. Of course the National Park Service Twitter feed is down due to the shutdown!

He’s got 200 republican votes plus another 200 Democrats and he’s caving? What is he so afraid of? He doesn’t need them.
I think it’s two things: 1. As many have noted, he desperately wants to remain Speaker; 2. He knows that if he finally corrals the #Teabaggers then the Republican House Majority will crumble.
Probably more than half of the House Republicans will band together behind Cantor/Ryan, at which point, the others will either declare as Independents, switch to Dem, or simply caucus as Rs with the Dems. The outcome is that the House will come under Dem Majority control. That would be a good thing for America, for sure. And, by the numbers totally justified since House Dems received ~ 1.5 Million more votes than Rs in the 2012 election.
But, it would mean the end of Boehner’s carrier, not just in Congress but on K Street. He’d likely receive all kinds of death threats, etc. But, fact is, one way or another his days as Speaker are numbered. And, the President knows it.
As I’ve mentioned before, either climb on to PBO’s steamroller or be prepared to get paved.
Love your analysis. I’m going to tweet your last line there and attribute to you. Love it!!
one way or another his days as Speaker are numbered. And, the President knows it.
then he should go out in a Blazeeeeeee of glory….and be the Speaker of the House not just of the GOP …I think that the so-called Mod Repubs would follow him…
What does Boehner want to remain Speaker for, if he’s not doing anything constructive with his speakership? Ego.
Boehner, Reid, McConnell and Pelosi will be meeting the President at the WH today at 5:30pm.
Now that’s a meeting I’d love to see!!!!!

I’m thinking along the same lines Bob – they have the leverage, and with the 2014 elections looming, there’s not a whole lot of stunts the GOP can pull anymore.
Exactly, hf!! From here on, as long as Ds hang together, it’s gonna be a really, really unpleasant time to be a Republican in America – even in Red States. Demographics is such a beautiful, powerful parameter.
Let’s add a gun bill!!!!! The cherry on the cake!

For all the handwringing by some about PBO reaching some kind of deal on the debt ceiling and the CR, there is one very important reason why ha can’t and why he won’t: Iran.
PBO has been very explicit about not negotiating over either of those two items. If he suddenly ended up doing so, not only would it set off a firestorm on the left (and probably by more than the emoprogs) but it would result in Iran wondering just how good his word is.
After all, one of the reasons (if not the main reason) they have reached out to the US is PBO and their seeing him as a man of integrity, unlike his predecessor.
So his and the Dems sticking to their guns in this battle has more than an impact domestically, but also in the rest of the world (and I don’t mean from an economic sense, thought there is that too)>
This is how MSM loves to present GOP – I guess the Rove/RNC memo must have been circulated to news outlets to not let the people see how desperate the R’s are
