Fewer than 100 people have managed to enroll in Maryland's health insurance website via @washingtonpost wapo.st/1e0ltiv— Karen Tumulty (@ktumulty) October 05, 2013
Thanks for posting jovie.
The last two paragraphs are very informative. It looks like states (CT and KY) that do not require creating an account BEFORE browsing for plans are having a smoother time with the enrollments.
Kentucky announced Friday that 4,739 individuals or families had enrolled in new health-care coverage. Connecticut has enrolled 1,000 individuals or families. Both Kentucky and Connecticut allow users to browse for plans before requiring them to create an account to purchase insurance.
Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Access Health CT, Connecticut’s exchange, said the goal was to make it as easy for people as possible. In road-testing design features with groups of consumers in recent months, he said, the staff learned that people did not want to have to register first. “It created more fragility and complexity. . . . It’s like buying a car with too many features.”
I’m wondering why the GOP paymasters aren’t pressuring Boehner right now. Government contractors are huge contributors, so where’s the outcry? The amount of money at risk through TP shenanigans is enormous and they should be snapping every string they can to get their paid congressional lackeys in line. I know some, like the insane K brothers, want the US to collapse, but I can’t believe that’s true of WS in general or any other major corporation that relies on a viable government. Just the cancelling of the president’s Asia trip is a big loss of potential revenue for many big companies and the longer this goes on, the worse it will be. We, the people, are calling. Are they?
A Terrible, Tragic Game
By CHARLES M. BLOW
That said, the speaker is wrong once again. This unfortunately is a game. It’s a game that he allowed himself to be pushed into playing and one he can find no easy way out of. It’s a game in which he thought the president would blink. But President Obama is staring straight ahead, wide-eyed like a long-haul trucker at 3 in the morning. This is a game in which the speaker cared more about keeping his job than about keeping the American government running, the people who work for it and those who depend on it.
It is most definitely a game, a terrible, tragic game that House Republicans are playing in the People’s House.
A conversation recorded between the two senators from Kentucky, Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader, expresses as much.
So chips, gcaoi a bhfuil an reifreann Seanad ag dul? Are you a yes or no?
Are you asking chip to get a brew or two?
We don’t have to ask. She comes pre-sozzled to the brim.
Woah, I’m impressed!! I’m a DEFINITE ‘abolish it!’, but it looks like it’s going to survive – which is extremely stupid, it’s just people voting against the government, who supported it being abolished. Crazy! Cutting off yer nose to spite yer face, kind of thing.

Ethics watchdog files complaint against lawmaker who berated park ranger | Raw Story rawstory.com/rs/2013/10/04/…: Excellent ! #TeaPartyShutdown— Jim McCarthy Jr. (@jimmacpam) October 05, 2013
I’m glad to hear that because that Congressman from Texas I believe had some dam nerve going after that park ranger the way he did. He and his Republicans are to blame for this shutdown but he was blaming that lady. What a man, that’s Republicans for you, disrespecting women.
That’s Republicans for you; blaming anyone except themselves for the problem they created. Sociopaths.
Hello Tod, Ms Chips… Happy Saturday to all- loving the October/summer weather we’re having here in Baltimore- 80s. Checked on North Dakota’s weather this morning— 21 degrees. Yes I am glad I moved
Today is my youngest grandson’s 6th birthday- that’s what I received for my birthday gift 6 yrs ago.
Once again I want to thank all of you for your lovely wishes to me yesterday- it was all so lovely.
Something that’s been bothering me: why do we always think Boehner is being led/pushed/pressured? As opposed to wanting this ? I think of all the times that folks who are against POTUS talk like he doesn’t think for himself, or is doing what some advisor wants him to do- being led- and how untrue that is… I just keep thinking that Boehner has plenty of power in this matter and could put a stop to this shutdown immediately… and yet he doesn’t/won’t. I believe he deserves the blame for this- obviously along with all his followers… but I’m just not buying that he’s powerless in this shutdown.
oh by the way- the shutdown is hitting home- my son’s ex, her girlfriend and her mom all work for the govt- so far just the mom (my co-grandma) has been furloughed. She is very upset, we talked last night and she said even the republicans in her office are disgusted with the republican house.
Sherijr, I’m glad that you had a wonderful birthday on yesterday. And Happy Birthday to your birthday gift — your grandson!
I agree that Boehner is not powerless. All he has to do is bring a clean CR to the floor for vote. Part of the problem is his leadership style.
“Why Boehner has to lead from behind”
In an interview on “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Boehner said his job was not to dictate to Republican members what legislation they should support but merely to “facilitate” a process where they found their own outcome.
Boehner may see it as consensus building, but most see it as Boehner’s loss of control of the House. What Boehner thinks is a show of strength against the President and the Democrats, is concession to the the TP bullies. In addition, this “leadership” style has not resulted in any significant legislation…just a lot of exercises in futility at the expense of American citizens.
thank you SW for your birthday wishes… and for the Boehner explanation, both are appreciated
I’m thinking the only reason Boehner hasn’t called for a vote on a clean cr- is because it would pass.
Up With Steve Kornacki concern trolling about Cory Booker race in New Jersey.
Didn’t that start somewhere else LadyHawke – the media doing their thing to help the GOP win in the Senate
Up Kornacki’s ass with his stupid game show.

GOP Rep: 'We've Lost The CR Battle' – huff.to/GB27Vm— (@deecee1220) October 05, 2013
And yet they’re all very excited.
“We’ve lost the CR battle,” he told Bloomberg. “We need to move on and take whatever we can find in the debt limit.”
Sure – so lets move on and let’s blackmail those to whom we owe money as well as the American people.
oh bloody hell- Marsha Blackburn on the floor spewing BS and lying about what a clean CR means. I detest these liars.
Yesterday she took credit for cutting the Federal Debt in half…..
why does that not surprise me? I just can’t listen to them- the repubs in the house.. they are so phony and dishonest.
She doesn’t tell the truth but she’s not “lying”. That woman is ignorant and stupid. She believes the BS.
