Well you really made an old original baby boomer laugh out loud tonight, UT – and that would be me! Ha!
This reminds me of a quote from a former co-worker of mine who SAID she was talking about “another” co-worker of ours, but who knows (and who cares! – didn’t care then and don’t care now):
“She sucks the life out of anything that ever happened to her.” (insert my picture here)
Congrats J’OB!! You are the shiz-nit!!!

In April of 2010, the gossip site Gawker.com posted an article entitled “Triscuitgate: Why Do the Islamic Extremists Who Hate South Park Also Hate Triscuits?” (Somalia, 2010). The article discussed the group Revolution Muslim, an Islamic group that had previously made headlines because of its threats against the cartoon South Park for its depictions of the Prophet Muhammad. The Gawker article reports that Revolution Muslim called the South Park creators “Darwinist faggots who are as despicable as the rest, walking around eating your Triscuits.”
Like the Gawker writer, several analysts in my group wondered, “Why Triscuits?” There was a lot of lighthearted discussion in person and via email about why Triscuits were targeted instead of saltines or Ritz crackers, and whether it had to do with round vs. square crackers. One co-worker posited that the Revolution Muslim member had eaten a Triscuit and torn the roof of his mouth when he had been expecting the “cashmere of wheat,” as advertised on the Triscuit website (“Triscuit: A Simple Story,” n.d.). The phrase “cashmere of wheat” quickly evolved into the “Cadillac of crackers,” and, perhaps inevitably, someone brought in a box of Triscuits to decorate the office and renamed them “Freedom Squares” by pasting a picture of Mel Gibson from the movie Braveheart on the box with the caption, “Tastes like FREEDOM!”
Will be forever grateful to our compatriot, zizi, for her very personal and motivating post!!!!

Each of us LIVES in precisely that type of moment.
What WE DO determines the quality of life for ALL future generations.

Thank you, COS, and everyone else who commented. It’s just a little thing, but I’m not sayin’ it’s not thrilling!
Congratulations JO’B Superstar. We are all proud of you.
Aren’t our birthdays a few days apart?
Both Libras, both named Jackie? Hmmm! (Mine is on Friday. Please forgive me, but I forget yours?)
Mine is tomorrow. I couldn’t remember if yours was the 11th or 12th but knew it was coming up soon. I think we are the same age too.
I’ll be 67 and proud of it (although I prefer even numbers!).
Hey, I own the CR on even.
No idea what CR means. Only thing I can think of is continuing resolution – Ha!
Congratulations Jacqueline, You truly are a superstar!
aww, thank you!
Well we are close in age. I turn 64 so I’m am an even number this year.

Bob – As a mini-bt, I can see your two tweets in one post pending. I think it’s a fywp problem where it triggers a pending if the post has two tweets. Some times it approves, sometimes it doesn’t. As I said, FYWP.
Bob, I think I found out the problem. You posted the same tweet twice in one post. fywp takes that as spamming and puts you on hold. When ut is back, she will release you.
Thank you amk!!! I should be more careful!!
Nothing to it. Tweet away.
Well done JoB! That’s cool!
2x tied for 1st, 1x almost tied and a confirmation on my OBAMACARE!! It has been a stellar day! Btw, I have been meaning to say, back in 1861, the Internet was not even a dream in anyone’s subconscious – the crusty old rich whiteys may have money, but WE THE PEOPLE have the POWER of communicating with millions all around the world in nanoseconds. PBO can carry on a conversation with 36+ million people throughout the course of a day. It will not be as easy for them as they expected, despite all their well-laid decades of planning. We Shall Overcome!
Around the world we are MP – congrats on the health care confirmation – and the world is watching the GOP let their hate take over their reason
THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW (2 great segments tonight)
1) Boehner Frantic for shutdown exit (17 minutes)
Rachel Maddow reviews the year long Republican plan to sabotage the Obama presidency at any cost and talks to Ryan Grimm about how Speaker John Boehner’s struggle to find a way out of the government shutdown he allowed his party to force American into. Believe it or not, this started with the freshman Congressman Mark Meadows. Rachel also talks about the meeting that was held on the day President Obama was inaugurated in 2009 and the meeting that was held after reelection to plan the shutdown of the government (Led by Ed Meese). It will give you chills.
2) Public record shows there are 217 votes for clean CR (7 minutes)
On This Week with George S, Speaker Boehner said there were not enough votes for the clean CR. President Obama, Majority Leader Reid, Senator Chuck Schumer and just about everybody is saying get hold a vote and let members vote their conscience. The 217 votes are there. The bottleneck is Speaker Boehner. He’s the leader, but he can’t count and he can’t herd cats in his own caucus. The tea party tail continues to wag the elephant. What does that say about Boehner’s leadership skills?

Bill R – Happy Birthday! You made it! (And you’re a “baby” compared to me – I’ll be a whopping 67 on Friday, with two years on Medicare under my belt.)
Fabulous tweet JoB – what a star – TOD folks sure talk with all the better people. Happy 67 on Friday – you have just a couple of months – and I’ll catch up
Thanks (another “baby” compared to me) – I’m just waiting for the phone call from my nearly-three-year-old great grandson on Friday! He always sounds as though he’s waited all day to talk to us, although that only lasts a minute or two – then he must run off to play!)
2 months does not a “baby make” – we surely are the “real” boomers – but … my only grandbabe is 1 year old & you have a great grandson! Bit slow in my family it would seem. Enjoy the call and the love.
I’m 66, my son is 44, his oldest daughter is 22 and her son is 2+! The best thing ever was his first Christmas, my granddaughter’s mom brought out the Christmas ornament I gave his mommy when she was born, and my great grandson hung it on their tree! I cried like a baby, from afar, hearing that!
I was the oldest Mom at kindergarten – 35 – how times change – that is now younger than usual!
It is already your birthday in my world Bill – so happy birthday!!! I’m sure you are one of millions telling the GOP to stay out of the way.
Happy Birthday Bill!!! You’re in grand company with Jackie & Jacqueline celebrating theirs in the same few day period!!!!
Thanks, Bob, and I see nobody got much sleep late last night – Ha!

☤Why Kentucky's #Obamacare/#AffordableCareAct Healthcare Exchange Had A Smoother Roll-Out Than Some Others blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/… #uniteblue— Healthcare's a right (@BlazePhoenix_) October 08, 2013
State officials and outside experts attribute the smoother rollout to a variety of factors, including intensive testing of the system, a less-flashy but more-efficient website and strong coordination among state agencies involved in the effort.
As a result, Kentucky’s exchange, dubbed Kynect, logged solid results in the first day and a half of operation. As of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, 10,766 applications for health coverage had been initiated, 6,909 had been completed and 2,989 individuals or families had enrolled in new coverage.
To be sure, the rollout wasn’t glitch-free. On Tuesday morning, the rush of online applicants overwhelmed the system, and users were soon prevented from setting up accounts. They could still browse the site and look at different plan options, but couldn’t file an application.
Technicians responded by bringing two more servers online and adding processing power to computers. “We added 50% more horsepower,” said Chris Clark, technology program manager for the exchange. By 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, the website was fully functional again, state officials said.
“It’s very straightforward in allowing consumers to browse plans without first creating an account.”
After Ms. Nash, a 38-year-old director of a nonprofit organization in Louisville, filled out an application online, the website returned numerous options. They included gold-level and platinum-level plans that would run $575 to $775 a month for all three of them. That would mean savings of roughly $5,000 to $6,000 per year, accounting for coinsurance and other payments, she said.
Ms. Nash, whose total household income is about $78,000 a year, said she isn’t sure whether they qualify for a subsidy. While the system said they did, the amount came in at zero—a discrepancy she hopes to work out with a call to Kynect representatives. Given they will save money regardless, the only decisions left for her family to make are what plan to choose and whether her husband will keep his employer coverage or join her and her son buying a policy on the exchange.
“I’ve been counting down the days” to this moment, Ms. Nash said.

Counter-extremism think tank Quilliam has announced Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll, leaders of the English Defence League, have decided to quit the far-right group.
In a statement released by the London based foundation, Mr Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon said: “I have been considering this move for a long time because I recognise that, though street demonstrations have brought us to this point, they are no longer productive.
“I acknowledge the dangers of far-right extremism and the ongoing need to counter Islamist ideology not with violence but with better, democratic ideas.”
Quilliam said they had been working with Mr Robinson, who they say wishes to exit the group along with Mr Carroll “because they feel they can no longer keep extremist elements at bay”.
Quilliam said they had previously identified “the symbiotic relationship between far-right extremism and Islamism” and believe that this event “can dismantle the underpinnings of one phenomenon while removing the need for the other phenomenon”.

Senate Democrats plan to introduce debt ceiling legislation: wjla.com/articles/2013/… #ShutdownTheGOP— Jeff Egerton (@jeffe04) October 08, 2013
Democrats controlling the Senate are planning to try to pass a stand-alone measure to increase the government’s borrowing cap, challenging Republicans to a filibuster showdown that could unnerve financial markets as the deadline to a first-ever default on U.S. obligations draws closer.
A spokesman said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could unveil the measure as early as Tuesday, setting the table for a test vote later in the week. The measure is expected to provide enough borrowing room to last beyond next year’s election, which means it likely will permit $1 trillion or more in new borrowing above the current $16.7 trillion debt ceiling that the administration says will be hit on Oct. 17.
The development came as a partial shutdown of the government enters its second week with no end in sight.

@Auriandra: Yet @washingtonpost cravenly suggests that Obama should throw @gop a lifeline.Yeah, fuck the country, it's gop that needs saving— (@amk4obama) October 08, 2013
The title of the Washington Post editorial is pitch perfect. All of this unnecessary hardship for the country for what. Speaker Boehner already has has the lifeline. The 217 votes are there for a clean CR. He should schedule a vote immediately and allow his caucus to vote their conscience.
Not only do we have the lazy both sides do it nonsense. But now there is the President Obama and the Democrats in the end must help Speaker Boehner save face from the mess that HIS LACK OF LEADERSHIP created. Enough is enough. The Republican Party is making a mockery of our democracy. Sabotage, hostage taking and extortion are not governing strategies. It time for the Republican Party to stop acting like bullies and criminals. Speaker Boehner needs to stop the obfuscating and lying and just simply do his job. He is not the Speaker of the Republicans he is the Speaker of the House. What is good for the country should be more important than any threats to his speakership.
Good morning everyone!
What follows is a reply to Nath which I brought over from another thread (hope you don’t mind). I know we are online at different times and I want him to know I did respond (I never know when people later respond to me) even though I’ve little to offer regarding his question about the Insurrection Act.
Don’t know if I’ll be able to be online today, so will someone please alert him that a response follows.
Thanks Nath. Sometimes, I am not as clear as I should be. It isn’t that I disagree with you or Bob, for I am certain both of you are far more knowledgeable than I, but I tend to rely more on how I believe the Constitution will be interpreted by our activist Supreme Court. These justices have ignored precedent, Congress’s duty to regulate and secure the economic welfare of the nation, and the Constitution in favor of a majority ideology that is entrenched in the Articles of Confederation.
Revisiting their debate over the healthcare law, I found it interesting that they deemed the Merchant Marines Mandate “too old and outdated to be applicable today”, but when it came to immigration had no problem reaching all the way back to the caverns of abolitionists to fashion an interpretation.
In determining what the President’s response should be, I think many forget how limited his power actually is. Legislating is the province of Congress. Despite the clamor for the President to act, or influence, the truth is, under the Constitution that is not his duty. It is to enforce the laws enacted by Congress, as you so clearly point out.
The 14th Amendment was enacted because of the Civil War and slavery, which gave way to insurrection. I would expect this “state’s right” Supreme Court to interpret it with that in mind.
The Insurrection Act is what President’s use when they call out the National Guard. My “guess” (can’t remember and too lazy to look it up) is the Act was an offshoot of the 14th Amendment. It would have been a right assumed during the Rodney King riots, Katrina and Operation Wall Street…events where masses of people express discontent.
All that being said, I should be clear that while my opinions are grounded in historical facts, they are my “opinions”, none the less (that’s a clever disclaimer) I am grateful for people like you, Bob and the TOD family…you help clear my muddled mind.
Have a great day!
