Thank you GGail!
Well , whadoyaknow! Nice to see you dancing up there, Hopef!
Here is a nice primer on the wonderful woman (and first democrat) in over 3 decades to head the Federal Reserve.
Nine amazing facts about Janet Yellen, our next Fed chair washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog… and a profile of her washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog… via @dylanmatt— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) October 09, 2013
Most qualified: Just look at the competition. When he was appointed chairman, Ben Bernanke’s only prior government service was three years on the Fed board and six months as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). Alan Greenspan had three years as CEA chair. Yellen, by contrast, has served for three years as vice chair, headed up the San Francisco Fed for six years, ran the CEA for two years, and before that did a three year stint on the Fed Board of Governors. She also did a stint as an economist at the board in the late 1970s, for good measure. Only Paul Volcker — who had a multi-decade career at the New York Fed and the Treasury — even comes close to that, and he had nowhere near as much exposure to the highest echelons of the Fed system as Yellen has. If experience is your main criterion, Yellen is hard to beat.
Powerful voice for the unemployed: In various speeches — perhaps most notably at the AFL-CIO — and in Fed deliberations, Yellen has been clear that she thinks subpar growth and too high unemployment are the biggest problems facing the Federal Reserve. “Maximum employment,” she has emphasized, is the main goal of the Fed at this point in time. In her words, “With employment so far from its maximum level and with inflation currently running, and expected to continue to run, at or below the [Federal Open Markets] Committee’s 2 percent longer-term objective, it is entirely appropriate for progress in attaining maximum employment to take center stage in determining the Committee’s policy stance.”…. 7 more additional (did you know)
LOL! Congrats japa

White House: What about obligations to Americans? http://wapo.st/1c0jMkf
This is the game plan. Republicans have been laying this out for two years. Read the chronology yesterday but I don’t remember where. They keep trying to get bills through where the interest is paid, thereby keeping bond holders happy and therefore Wall St. will shut up. Everyone else in America suffers.
I heard a logical point yesterday from an emoprog that I loathe but it made sense. Where is the incentive for the RWNJ’s to give in? The parts of the government they love, like most of the military, is not a part of the shutdown. And perhaps Hagel didn’t help by bringing back the civilians, thereby robbing the administration of one of its leverage points.
The parts that are shut down are the parts of government that Republicans want to obliterate. So the question was raised and I ask it as a point of discussion with the TOD family – do we have the leverage we need, especially if there are Democrats like Chuck Schumer who could easily side with Wall St. on something like ‘paying our interest on the debt.’ See, that sounds reasonable, when in fact it destroys everything that matters to Democrats and the Evil Ones get away with it.
remember PBO has called in the Dems to meet later today – he is going to provide guidance about the plan of action

WWII Memorial Closed? Let’s Privatize It
Are you fantasizing about Congress ending the shutdown so you can once again have access to the capital’s blocked attractions? Well, here’s another approach you may not have considered.
“Why not simply sell off the government museums and monuments and memorials to private concerns?” Edward Hudgins asked in a recent YouTube video. Hudgins is director of advocacy at the Atlas Society, a think tank devoted to promoting Ayn Rand’s philosophy.
That is a positively grotesque suggestion. Any private corp would charge admission, put up advertisements, make it all like Disneyland!!! These people just want a chance to make more money off of suckers….of which, as P.T. Barnum said, “There is one born every minute.”
Good to bring this to our attention…….
Rep. C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.) announced Wedensday in a Tampa Bay Times interview that he has decided to retire when his term ends in 2014.
The congressman, 82, told the paper in a phone interview from Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, where he is recovering from a back injury. “I’m a little disappointed. It seems there’s too much politics. It’s a different Congress,” he said.
He is Florida’s longest-serving congressman, having first been elected in 1970. His district voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, making it a possible Democratic pickup.
Linda, the DCCC and local Dems have to act quickly to get a good Democrat primed to run. We can’t take advantage of opportunities if we don’t have a candidate.
Will persist ….

[LOL! LOL! Cucci-Boo-Hoo on Raphael]:
[.....] Said Cuccinelli: “I don’t think he’s dragging me down. He’s a Texas senator. . .(so) it doesn’t have a whole lot of resonance in my race.”
Cuccinelli avoided a photo op with Cruz last weekend.
Ha! After inviting Cruz to campaign for him.
Not that I’m a Terry McAuliffe fan, and God knows if he can govern since he’s never held political office, but ANY Democrat is better than that monster Cuccinelli.
57, McAuliffe HAS to win this. Cuccinelli is far too radical for a purple state like Va and he would literally destroy it. Every women in VA has to come out in full force on election day.
It’s simple. Enough Dem’s need to vote. I’m sick and tired of Democratic voters ceding their government to a bunch of crazies because they’re too lazy too vote.
@chucktodd @SimonWDC BUT CONVERSATION!— meta (@metaquest) October 09, 2013
Surprised Toad reported the facts! That’s new for him. His tweet does not make Boehner sound good either.
And the GOP keep complaining that he won’t talk to us. Republicans are despicable.
AND Republicans have blocked a budget conference 21 times, two up from the count yesterday. Un-freakin’-believable.
Meta, Boehner is being unspeakably contemptible at this point. He thinks that dismissing and demeaning the president is a winning strategy. He will learn the hard way it’s not. His idea of ‘negotiating’ is not to attend a meeting, which we all know is so very effective. He will likely send the hardest-headed TPs to this meeting because he’s just that kind of prick.
I think he’s incapable of sobering up.
I wonder if there were any complaints or push-back from the 214 for whom Boehner declined the invitation.
WASHINGTON — WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner’s office says a small group of House Republicans will meet with President Barack Obama Thursday instead of the full caucus that the White House invited.
Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said Wednesday that the meeting is only worthwhile if it’s focused on finding a solution. So Buck said only the elected leadership and select committee chairmen will attend — 18 lawmakers out of the 232 invited.
Obama was having the entire House Democratic caucus on Wednesday. The White House said the president intends to also invite senators to talk in the coming days.
Republicans are demanding talks on deficit reduction and Obama’s health care law to approve spending legislation. Obama says he won’t negotiate until the budget is approved with no strings attached.
Among those from House GOP going to WH: Boehner
Send Peter King . Boehner you are acoward !
Boehner is trying to make sure he controls the message to the House GOP. Do you think he will tell them what the President REALLY says in this meeting?
So Boehner lies yet again. He doesn’t want a ‘conversation’. He wants his ransom demands.
