Your enthusiasm cracked me up. Congratulations on first and a fist bump to you too!
Virtual fist bumps to all of you at TOD! Am happy to be home from a trip around Oregon.
Yes, UT, the Fist Bump Generation! Sweet pictures.
Well, lookachu Miss Second Place. A fist bump to you too!
Awwww! You are so sweet. And I’m lovin’ that sweet image!
Think I’m gonna have to say goodnight – can’t keep my eyes open! Speaking of sweet ~ sweet dreams, UT and all of TODville!
Touching and agreeing!
Would love to see our President fist-bumping Janet Yellen!
She’d reach up and fist-bump him back!
You kinda bumped off of LL’s post, didntya?
beebs breaking : Libyan prime minister taken away by armed men.
FIST BUMPS TO ALL!
I just finished viewing the Baltimore Massacre. Wow! Just Wow!
How blessed we are have POB for our President.
I am speechless…..
No wonder the shot has hit the fan!
Repubs said to be considering short term debt ceiling increase. Isn’t that sweet of them? Hisssssssssssss!
And—–still sounds like too many strings to me.
And then we have to do this dog & pony show again in a couple of months?!
since most of us don’t watch fox, we may have missed where the people who caused the shutdown try again to shift blame to others.
if they continue with the talking point, they Sec Hagel will need to be defended
@InaMaziarcz grandstanding galore! Sec Hagel is not the 1 who cut off the funds; ppl who should resign are the instigators of #GOPshutdown— Linda Kyambadde (@globalcitizenln) October 10, 2013
of course fox gets the opportunity to attack Hagel – a person they wanted to derail
Totally irrelevant, Africa, but whenever I write or see this word, I always wonder if I prefer ‘ignorami’, so my head ends up playing each back and forth for a while ‘ignoramuses’ – ‘ignorami’; ‘ignorami’ – ‘ignoramuses’…over and over …(until something sensible jumps in).
Have yourself a good day (in spite of your crazy TOD relative)!
thanks for the uplifting fist-bump photos;
these have been a tough number of days for many people;
thanks everybody for bringing something to the table and helping to keep the focus where it ought to always be ==> on the section of community that most needs protection and advocacy;
wanted to end on a positive tone tonight so I am going to watch the brief clip from National Geographic documentary of the President’s Photographer, Mr. Pete Souza, as he narrates the final passage of Obamacare;
I need to remember that at the time, POTUS put it all on the line & that a number of people were betting against PBO succeeding in passing ObamaCare – we know how that turned out.
like Bobfr constantly reminds us : Trust Barack!
Hang tough, Linda! Had to sneak back to post a song. I’ve commented a couple of times that when the President grants interviews to certain pundits, sometimes they come away with a whole new positive slant on covering his policies and actions. I like to think of it as the President’s sprinkling some of that magic Obama dust on their little goofy heads, smiling at them during the interviews. Meant to post this earlier today – about John Harwood’s temporary transformation – and how I think President Obama got to him. I can just hear it playing in the background during the interview. Enjoy (it’s an oldie, but it never gets old)!
thanks! will try to hang tough
Oh, JOB, love the song and love the outfits–so fifties.
Of course, some of us were only babies in the ’50s, but still listened to the music!
I’m reminded when Elvis was first on Ed Sullivan, my two sisters and I were sitting on the floor in front of the teevee to see him, and my 30-something mother was sitting right there with us! Ha. I later was able to take her to one of his last concerts in Philly, a couple decades later, which she totally enjoyed.
You’re welcome. Figured we needed something uplifting to deal with the craziness.
Before departing, dear Linda, just want to express gratitude to your for your positive spirit and note that our President never deviates from this core value ….
Yes WE DO
And, YES WE CAN …
… And, WE WILL NEVER RELENT
rest well, or welcome to a new day (depending on time zones) dear TODers ….
love this video Bobfr. I reposted on this morning’s rise and shine. The HOPE of our nation was expressed do beautifully in his some and in our President’s words and that is what the GOP is afraid of. Today is a good day to spread this video far and wide as a reminder of why we are in this. Why we do what we do at TOD in our communities and beyond.
Yes. We. Can
Yes. We. Did
and we will do it again.
fat fingers. Trying again.

A congratulatory ‘fist bump’ to you, Judith, though nothing remotely comparable to experiencing one from our dear President Obama.
Way past time for accountability ….
Dear #PBO, We understand the enormity of the threat to our Democracy. Time for the #DoJ to act. cc @VP @Pfeiffer44 http://t.co/YGRyqjp09r— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) October 10, 2013
… I have ZERO doubt our President & AG are on it.
… time for a bit of rest …
We have been warned and The Obama Diary is one of the power bases where change is happening. Most of the states on healthcare.com are the ones run by republicans which also have not expanded Medicaid. The state sites which have implemented their own exchanges hold the power. When I say I am thankful for this site, it’s for many reasons, but the push to get as many people covered through the exchanges is the key to fighting this hostile attempted coup, and if any of you think your voices are not some of the most powerful in our country, you are wrong.
I see how the words you speak are picked up every day. Yes, we must register people, voting is our most powerful tool, but healthcare is second in the U.S. because we will never again be chained to the corporate monsters who took over so long ago. When the Mighty Joe said this is a bfd, he meant it.
Education and immigration will be tied to the implementation of healthcare and we must never ever ever ever slip into complacency. I’m sending each of you mighty warriors all the strength I have to keep up the good fight.
We are living in the greatest time ever. Whether we are pushed past the debt ceiling, whether they close our government for an extended period of time, whatever they throw at President Obama and the country, keep pushing to get people covered. They’ve shown us what they fear most. The state exchanges are leading the way to the most awesome change this country has possibly ever seen.
I know they are after President Obama and his legacy, but they are also desperate to take back the power President Obama has gifted us and every generation to come. One of those children being covered right now will be President of the United States long after we are gone.
I cannot express how thankful I am to this site. You are making a huge difference and it is a bfd.
Well said, Sue. I agree with you about the importance of healthcare reform, and the freedom it will afford all Americans. This is change that will reverberate for generations to come.
You are very correct about your focus on the
– influence the push back from ordinary people – as here on TOD – are having on contributing to the changes PBO is implementing;
- the role of healthcare and specifically Obamacare will have on enabling many to be untethered from their (often abusive) employer, and leave dead-end jobs and embark on new innovative/creative/satisfying careers; I am one of those people holding on till dec 31st
- education and immigration are critical and must be advocated for;
- need to enroll as many people as possible in ObamaCare for healthcare reasons but also as democracy empowerment (GOTV tool);
- we must demand Medicaid expansion in those red states
excellent comment!! we all just gotta keep on keepin on!
Brilliantly stated, Sue. “They are desperate to take back the power President Obama has gifted us and every generation to come” could not be truer. But that genie is out of the bottle. We know now what we can do if we work together and the president has taught us how to make that happen. You’re right, we can’t relent and we can never give up.
How many remember when PBO and FLOTUS did that fist bump, the Fox chick asked if it was a terrorist bump or something of the sort? I bet she is working somewhere.
she probably got a raise and her own show by doing that one.
That was E.D. Hill I think she said ” Terrorist Fist Jab ”
She was gone shortly after and then popped up over at CNN. She did not last long their . She has disappeared.
events in Libya are confusing and happening very fast
I hope Chips or Ut will highlight this video. Found it on twitter this a.m. Lawrence and Carl Bernstein debunks the false equivalence meme.
SPECIAL DELIVERY TO .@ChrisCuomo. No. Your both sides meme falls flat. Listen to a credible journalist tell it. nbcnews.com/id/45755883/ns…— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) October 10, 2013
thanks so much for posting this interview. I watched it last night and could barely contain myself. I was out of my seat with both fists in the air several times. It was high fives all around. That was a righteous rant coming from a real journalist.
One of the first articles I read that predicted the bogus both sides do it meme was from James Fallows. It was a terrific analysis about the dysfunction in reporting on the shutdown/debt limit crisis. But it was so refreshing to hear Carl Bernstein say out loud on cable tv what needed to be said. It really is infuriating that just telling the truth is the exception and not the norm. The very idea that we have to be excited that Carl Bernstein did something that any self respecting ‘real’ journalist should have done is depressing. But I will take this bit of truth from Mr Bernstein and hope that it gets a million views or more. I consider his remarks as another breach of the firewall and it’s a good thing.
Dan Froomkin, former Washington Post and now AJAM reporter also did a good piece on the false equivalence notion. But it was good to hear Bernstein and Lawrence discuss it. Of note also, Bernstein goes into that little discussed story about how GOP connived on the night of PBO Inauguration to destroy him. These people know the truth, few are willing to state it.
Seems that morning joe may have some investments that he’s very worried about – suddenly wants the GOP to face reality. Shame he’s been supporting the a..holes for 5 years
It’s always been about hurting PBO. But they lose every single time.
IMO, ONE reason they lose so often is that in their hatred they see only PBO; they never see the people he’s ‘protecting’ – those standing behind him.
MJ announced on one of last evening’s shows that he’s a Club for Growth kind of Republican.
In VA, huge majorities oppose use of shutdown or debt limit as weapon against Obamacare: quinnipiac.edu/institutes-and…— Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) October 10, 2013
It seems an unintended help to the democrat in the Virginia Gov’s election – Boehner & the RWNJs know not what they do.
MJ is unbelievable – after 5 years – they are talking a disaster for the GOP – If they had told the truth this would never have happened. (Then again – a sudden mention of “both sides”)
Talk about false equivalence – they are praising GOP governors with GOP legislatures – cause they get things done – why to I ever think the media will tell the truth.
I keep going back to Boehner and GOP partners in crime in the media continuously [and dishonestly] spouting that the President won’t talk to “us”. So when the President invites ALL of the GOP House members to the White House to do just that, Boehner declines the invitation for more than 90% of them.
I’m sure that many of the members who are not being allowed to attend the meeting with the President are persons who are straddling the fence – wanting to be loyal to the party but also wanting to do what they know is right for their constituents and for the country. I’m sure it includes members who probably feel that the TP’s antics are hurting not just the GOP as a whole, but the individual party members as well. Boehner is afraid that the President, through fact and common sense will be able to sway these straddlers and cause more dissention among GOP members; cause more damage to their already crumbling strategy.
And if there are GOP House members that really wanted to participate in the talks with the President, why aren’t they saying so?
They are always afraid to buck the leaders. Anyone hear how Cory Booker did in the debate last night?
MJ had some clips – the opponent was very personal in his attacks – called him names. MJ then seemed to think that Sarah Palin campaigning will be the end of Cory Booker – most people think the opposite.
One question. Do you get that idjit down under?
And why do you watch him?
Ok, that’s two questions.
I get him via a weird web site – I watch about once a year – last time I watched was when PBO won Nov 2012 – they tried to turn that into a loss.
I watched today because I was looking for news as to what is happening re the shutdown – I’ve been away a couple of days & missed all the TOD chat – my first impression was that MJ & team were very critical of the GOP – but after 15 minutes I discovered that was my error. They then showed a little of the Cory Booker debate so I watched that because Cory’s opponent was seriously being a tea party front runner – impossible to imagine that will work in NJ – and then I tuned out when they brought on a yound woman who says gun legislation has never stopped any gun deaths!
And the 3rd unasked question – the media in my world seems to ignoring the shutdown – other than to say it is Washington dysfunction.
some idjits never change. I don’t understand the left’s obsession with his show. Our newspapers are covering the ‘DC dysfunction’ too but are squarely blaming the thugs. And no, I never watch indian news shows. They are worse american ones.
Like the US – our media is just going further to the right every year.
I saw a clip of the debate either on Rachel or Lawrence regarding the question something like Who do you admire in the Senate right now? The GOP candidate named Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marc Rubio and other Tea Party members. Cory Booker was quick to mention that the answer given was very revealing since the people mentioned were from the group responsible for the current government shutdown.
I see it as all related to the idea of someone “caving” – If there are any on the GOP side who do not want to shut down the government – it should be addressed as wanting to save the country from insanity and insurgency – but the media – who have caused 80% of this problem – has to have a winner and a loser so they talk about caving.
After watching the “Baltimore Massacre” video, it seems that all of President Obama’s warnings to the GOP are coming to fruition. Their constant attacks, putting a negative spin on all things Obama, turning the legislative process into a war with each bill being a battle have come back to haunt them.
They cannot support anything that this President proposes without being perceived as hypocrites or liars [which they are]. Compromise means surrendering or caving. They have to double down in their rhetoric and dig in their heels, even as they are sinking and the walls are crumbling around them.
And the American people are the collateral damage.
Many outside of the US are also part of that collateral damage – the GOP are winning NO friends anywhere in the world. Even our RW new Prime Minister said one of the most important things he had to do at the recent APEC/Asian meeting was to meet with SOS Kerry. People outside of the US work with the President & administration – not the congress.

Mike Ditka have always been a loud mouth know it all jerk. If I could tell Ditka one thing, I would tell him don’t be so sure he would have defeated Barack Obama, because I seem to remember everyone in the world thought Hillary Clinton would defeat Obama. And we know how that turn out, don’t we Mr. Dit- ka. I’ve never really like Mike Ditka anyway.

Cruz paid for a poll conducted by Chris Perkins, of Republican polling firm Wilson Perkins Allen. The poll found results similar to those run by national firms this week, which showed Republicans taking the majority of blame for the shutdown. Only 28 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, according to findings from Gallup released Wednesday.
However, Cruz argued that because the shutdown resulted from a disagreement over Obamacare, not spending in general, Republicans are in a better position now than they were in 1995, according to the Examiner.
Cruz’s poll found that 46 percent blame the 2013 shutdown on Republicans, while 51 percent blamed the 1995 shutdown on Republicans, according to the Examiner.
why is that all the nutters (ok 99% of them) gravitate to gp?
OK, then. And Mitt is president.
