Good morning, I have to share this. I watched NBC 10 from Philadelphia this morning and it was reported that 51% of the public blamed the president for the shutdown according to the NBC/WSJ poll. Well, after reading the results last night on this blog , I knew that was wrong. I double checked that the figure is 31% and called the newsroom. I told the woman who answered the phone their mistake and demanded it be corrected. She asked how I knew this and I said I had read the results last night. They are off the air now, but I checked the web and the figure is correct-31%- in their story. So we must all be vigilant.

on-the-ground report about ObamaCare and contribution of Ambassador Rooney who believes in the law.

this area covered by the Steelers is more conservative than Philly so this commitment will be important for addressing the lies most are hearing about ObamaCare

    Amen. http://www.youaredumb.net/node/2314

Taxation is not theft. It’s the cover charge to get into civilization.

Your taxes pay for traffic signals you’ll never use, in intersections you will never drive through in your entire life. You get no benefit from those traffic signals, but society benefits from not having piles of mangled metal, plastic, and corpses at every intersection. so government takes your money and uses it to fund services that benefit other people.

Most civilized societies have also reached the conclusion that it society benefits from not having piles of bankrupt, terminally ill people begging for food money at every intersection, so those governments take some of your money and use it to fund health care services that benefit other people.

Similarly, food stamps alleviate the societal ill of starvation under overpasses and rampaging mobs of hungry people breaking into houses to steal canned goods to feed their families. And nuclear weapons to alleviate the societal ills of being taken over by the damn Russkies.

This is a non-negotiable fact. Your entire life is made possible by government. Even when it’s corrupt. Even when it’s oppressive. It’s still better than the nihilistic anarchy that passes for the modern conservative and libertarian view of ideal government.

Is there inefficiency? Fuck yes. Inefficiency is the price you pay for scale. This is true of anything. If there were one McDonald’s in the entire country, the people in charge of McDonalds could probably ensure that nobody would ever spit into anyone’s Big Mac. But it would be inconvenient for most of us to drive there. So instead, we opt for scale, and inefficiency, and every once in a while, there’s a little spit or a $200 hammer or someone slacking off somewhere when local news has a hidden camera. This doesn’t invalidate the concepts of restaurants or government.

This debate isn’t about health care, or spending. It’s about a bunch of assholes who reaped the benefits of living in a civilized society for the past four to five decades, and now want you to suffer so that they can keep all those benefits for themselves.

Reject them. Reject their basic fucking premise. Shut your piehole and be grateful for civilization, because we both know a Lord Of The Flies libertarian island wouldn’t last a fucking week.

‘KEEP YOUR GOVERNMENT HANDS OFF MY DUBYACARE’

The Only Thing Republicans Really Hate About ‘Obamacare’ is ‘Obama’

    By Bob Cesca

    —————————————————-

On second thought, I’d like to correct that thing I wrote about how the individual mandate is the only aspect of Obamacare that Republicans (suddenly) dislike. They mainly dislike the “Obama” part of the word “Obamacare.” And that’s the point of this little exercise. The dissatisfaction with, and outright hatred of Obamacare has little to do with the law itself. It has everything to do with the president who proposed it and who shepherded it through Congress. If that president had been named “Bush” or “Reagan” or even, heaven forbid, “McCain” or “Romney,” Republicans would be demanding, “Keep your government hands off my Dubyacare!”

As for Stockman, I suppose the silver lining is that he wastes so much time on Twitter instead of, you know, legislating.

Report: CIA Red Flags On Snowden ‘Slipped Through The Cracks’

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/report-cia-red-flags-on-snowden-slipped-through-the-cracks

The CIA raised red flags on Edward Snowden that were never forwarded to the National Security Agency when it hired the contractor and afforded him him access to thousands of classified documents, according to a New York Times report published Thursday.

Snowden’s supervisor at the CIA in Geneva wrote a derogatory report in his personnel file in 2009, citing a distinct shift in Snowden’s behavior and work habits, according to the Times. The CIA then decided to send him home because it suspected the contractor was trying to break into classified files he was not authorized to access, two unnamed senior officials said.

The supervisor’s report and the CIA’s suspicions never reached the NSA and only surfaced after Snowden’s leaking of classified documents to several newspapers sparked a federal investigation, according to intelligence and law enforcement officials who spoke with the Times.

“It slipped through the cracks,” one veteran law enforcement official told the Times of the supervisor’s report.

We’re not in this position because President Obama or the Secretary of the Treasury spent more than they were supposed to. And we’re not in this position because investors refuse to buy our bonds.

We’re in this position for one reason, and one reason only: because Congress told the government to spend more money than we have, and now Congress is threatening to run out on the bill. This isn’t about new spending. This is about paying for the bills we’ve already run up.

The idea that we can renege on our debts without paying a high price is a fantasy – a very dangerous fantasy.

I wish all of you that Tweet, would Tweet this….she speaks in plain language and lays it all out.

I am amaze at these rich old white men like this Welch. They go from one thing to another to attack this black President. Wasn’t it doing the Syria debate they were saying POTUS was a weak leader, now they are saying he is to powerful. If Congress look like jackasses, let me correct myself, if the Republican congress look like jackasses they are to blame for that themselves. When Pelosi were speaker they work and got things done. Under Boehner they have don’t a dam thing but sabotage, obstruct, and say no to anything the President supported. What if they had vote on 42 job bills, instead of 42 times to repeal the ACA (Obamacare). That rich old fool seem to blame President because Congress approval rating stinks worse then a dead rotten skunk.

    • October 11, 2013 at 11:04 am

That idea is what Lawrence O’Donell was talking about on one of his shows this week. That is that the GOP is not really about stopping Obamacare as much as stripping away presidential powers. LOD thought they had come to the realization that their party would be having a hard time winning the presidency in the near future and they had ensconced ithe office with more powers since Reagan’s Imperial Presidency and now need to take that power away.

Pittsburgh Steelers Owner, Former Players To Help Promote Obamacare

    http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2013/10/09/2743711/pittsburgh-steelers-owner-former-players-to-help-promote-obamacare/

The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to become the second National Football League team to help promote the Affordable Care Act when chairman Dan Rooney and former Steelers players join administration officials at a Heinz Field event Thursday.

Rooney, a former ambassador to Ireland under President Obama, will join Dept. of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to headline an event aimed at boosting enrollment in the law’s state-based health exchanges and education about the law’s new health programs, according to release from HHS.

The Steelers will be the second NFL team to promote the law since the NFL decided not to partner with the Obama administration. The Baltimore Ravens, one of Pittsburgh’s biggest rivals, signed on to help boost enrollment in Maryland’s exchanges in early September.

I know that lousy Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones won’t be one of the team to promote the ACA. All he care about is staying rich, (a Republican), he doesn’t even care about his team winning. A big thanks to the Steelers and their owner for trying to help those without health insurance get it.
