Hi, Marlz:) Did I miss your birthday celebration??? If I did, a very happy belated birthday to you:) Mine’s the 26th….all I want is for all these RWNJ’s to be thrown in jail…is that too much to ask for??

      • October 12, 2013 at 1:08 pm

This is not about Obamacare or even President Obama. This is about punishing the citizens for voting in a democrat for President and they losing twice. Its all about them not winning.

    Democrats reject Susan Collins proposal

    ————————–

Democratic leaders in the Senate are rejecting an offer by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) to end the budget impasse, arguing it asks for too much in return for too little, senators and aides tell POLITICO.

The development comes on the same day that the Senate voted 53-45 to block a Democratic bill that would raise the debt ceiling through 2014 without any spending cuts or changes to Obamacare.

the whole problem here is that republicans seem to believe that funding the government and paying bills is a concession to democrats that deserves something in return.

until they drop this false premise, nothing will happen.

I know. The Republicans think they should get ‘free stuff’ for doing their job on a basic level.

The Shutdown in 10 Infuriating Sentences

    —By Kevin Drum

    ——————————————

    1. Democrats have already agreed to fund the government at Republican levels.

    3. Democrats in the Senate have been begging the House to negotiate over the budget for the past six months, but Republicans have refused.

    4. That’s because Republicans wanted to wait until they had either a government shutdown or a debt ceiling breach as leverage, something they’ve been very clear about all along.

    5. Republicans keep talking about compromise, but they’ve offered nothing in return for agreeing to their demands—except to keep the government intact if they get their way.

I going to bed smiling after reading this. Mind you, this is from the moonie times.

The whole idea behind the “Ride for the Constitution” is flawed.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 10-12,000 trucks drive the nation’s capital beltway daily, so it would take a substantial number of trucks to impact traffic and promote the so-called “Ride for the Constitution.”

Even if thousands of trucks arrived to snarl traffic, this would do nothing but anger commuters. Since participants did not obtain permits to demonstrate in Washington, D.C., they would also risk having their rigs impounded.

Independent truckers are barely squeezing out a living these days and they often take jobs just to make their rig payments so to ask them to come to Washington and drive around in circles with diesel fuel at $3.85 per gallon and getting about five to six miles per gallon at highway speeds, a trucker would have to ask themselves; “What is this going to accomplish?” Some who did show claim the fuel alone cost them $700.

The Ride for the Constitution organizers presented photos of trucks on the beltway as proof of some sort of victory. May of those trucks were driving on the beltway as part of their regular job, not because they were participating in the demonstration.

At one point, four tractor-trailers drove in tandem for a minute, but state police quickly broke it up.

    ///

Earl Conolon, self-proclaimed Ride for the Constitution organizer, drove up from Georgia and was spotted by a US News reporter as he stood alone at the mall complaining: “I’ve been here for hours and I ain’t seen nothin’.”

He went on to angrily declare “I’m downtown where the rally is supposed to be but I haven’t seen anybody or heard anyone on the radio.”

Conlon concluded by ruminating “If they (the truckers) are circling the loop (beltway) what good is that going to do? Sure taught D.C. a lesson, didn’t they?”

Conlon had previously threatened that truckers would arrive in D.C. and arrest politicians and then admitted he made those statements to “attract attention.”

    http://infidel753.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-republican-civil-war.html

Nor is this the first time the Republican establishment has joined forces with a movement of dangerous fanatics in order to profit from their zeal. In the late 1970s the party embraced the rising new Christian Right, unfazed by its anti-gay, anti-female equality, anti-science, anti-modernity fervor, or by the theocratic totalitarian implications of its ambitions. The fundies helped get Reagan elected, and the alliance has been tightening ever since. It was only after forced ultrasounds and gay-baiting and slut-shaming and “legitimate rape” started losing elections that the establishment started gingerly trying to dissociate itself from the crazies.

And now that the latest bunch of nuts has come within an inch of wrecking the global economy that the financial parasite class depends on almost as much as the rest of us do, the establishment wants to disown them and go back to being a sane party and accepted as such.

Sorry, but after a premeditated criminal fuck-up of this magnitude, you don’t get to bounce back. You can’t just say “sorry,” hit the reset button, and wipe the slate clean. You enabled this. You put the Christian Right and then the Tea Party into positions of power, knowing full well what they were and what they wanted to do. You don’t deserve the chance to redeem the Republican party. It needs to be smashed and destroyed and flushed out of our country’s political system forever. The nuts are fighting back and I hope they and you obliterate each other. You knowingly and willfully tried to sacrifice the prosperity and freedom and human rights of millions of Americans for the sake of your own political power and greed. If this is the end, it’s the end you wrote for yourselves.

    To hell with you.

Hey, I found this little gem!

… and an interesting article when I was looking up Lena [check out the photos]

The First African Americans to attend a Presidential Inaugural Ball in 1949

    http://www.zimbio.com/Lena+Horne/articles/BQ47xSA6sas/First+African+Americans+attend+Presidential

” In 1949, President Harry S. Truman revived the official ball. 200 African Americans attended the official inaugural ball of President Harry S. Truman on January 20, 1949 at the Armory. It was the first time African Americans attended a Presidential Inaugural Ball. Guest included luminaries such as Lena Horne, Mary McLeod Bethune and John P. Davis.

The African American women went overboard [] with some of the most exquisite gowns. Lena Horne blew in with an Edmund Kara creation in re-enforced leaf design. It was pale silver gray taffeta and each leaf had to be ironed out separately when she arrived to the hotel from Hollywood. Mrs. John Sengstacke, wife of the Chicago publisher, wore a gorgeous metallic gown trimmed with sequins. Mrs. Lloyd Von Blaine, wife of the owner of the D.C’s Cimmaron Club was in a breath taking silver net with orchids. Marguerite DeMond Davis wife of attorney and publisher John P. Davis wore a winter white silk gown with Italian lace…”

My, how times have changed! None of the folks at that ball could have imagined that some 60 yrs later, the 2009 inaugural festivities would be honoring the 1st of two elections of that skinny black dude with the funny name. :-)

    —————-
Be the way, I wanted to post the link about Ms. Horn’s entry in the International Civil Rights Hall of Fame: http://www.nps.gov/features/malu/feat0002/wof/Lena_Horne.htm

Of course, since the National Park Service is closed, the website is down, but you can get to the cached version of the page from Google search (no images available though) .

I’m thinking at this rate, even ‘pubs in so-called safe gerrymandered districts will have to watch their backs. There’s going to be some mighty upset SNAP, head start, and Obamacare, moms and grandmoms living in red states who will pull the lever in their kids best interest.

It’s so cool to hear Dems all speak as one with the same message. It’s not easy herding cats as we have experienced in the pass. On this one, anyway, there’s much unison. Enjoy it while it lasts, because ours is a party of many voices.

Interesting that neither CNN nor MSNBC carried the Senate Dems presser (which I just saw on CSPAN). Very telling indeed…that’s why I always caution folks to NOT take any “info” from these cable channels as fact – they are burying the info they don’t want people to know about, while putting their own spin on things.

        • October 12, 2013 at 3:16 pm

Unlikely that either Cantor or Ryan would have a House majority if Boehner falls …

        • 79 forus50
          October 12, 2013 at 3:27 pm

I frankly don’t think this is going to end well for Americans. I think Boehner is going to tank the economy before he gives up his Speakership. If he wasn’t going to do that, then he could have solved this problem weeks ago. If he allows Pelosi & company to help him pass a clean CR & DL then he would be voted out immediately by the TeaParty. Of course, they would cut off their nose to spite their face as they would split the GOP caucus & Pelosi would be nominated the new Speaker by the Dem caucus.

          Dudette,

I checked out the pictures in the article. The couple, Raymond Pace Alexander and Sadie Alexander, were from Philadelphia. He was a Central High School graduate and valedictorian of his class, the first black graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, he attended Harvard Law School and became the first black judge appointed to the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He and his wife, Sadie, met at Penn. She was pretty amazing in her own right. Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander was the first African-American to receive a Ph.D. in economics in the United States, the first woman to receive a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and the first national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She was the first African-American woman admitted to the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In 1927, she was its first African-American woman graduate, and the first to be admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. After passing the bar, she joined her husband’s law practice, specializing in estate and family law.

Now THAT’S a power couple. Kinda like those other kids, Barack and Michelle…

PBO: YOU ADVANCE YOUR IDEAS THROUGH ELECTIONS AND LEGISLATION – NOT EXTORTION

    =============================THIS IS NOT NORMAL=================================

It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s not supposed to be this way. Manufacturing crises to extract massive concessions isn’t how our democracy works, and we have to stop it. Politics is a battle of ideas, but you advance those ideas through elections and legislation – not extortion.

I know you’re frustrated by what you see in your nation’s capital right now. But because it’s easy to get lost in or give up on the political back-and-forth, I want you to remember: this is not normal. Our government is closed for the first time in 17 years. A political party is risking default for the first time since the 1700s. This is not normal. That’s why we have to put a stop to it. Not only because it’s dangerous, but because it saps everyone’s faith in our extraordinary system of self-government. And that hurts us all.

    ================================================================================

Really coming close to calamity. All it takes is for US Bond holders to demand payment and the entire system collapses.

Good Morning Chips and my TOD family. Lovely sunny day out here on west coast. Leader Reid is a strong man,and I am grateful for his attitude this morning. Thanks to Sen. Patty Murphy of WA., level head of Sen. Durbin and still hanging in there, Sen. Schumer. And most of all grateful to know that President Barack H. Obama is the President.

We will not give up because so many young children, seniors, our military families, and the average middle-class men and women are in a worry mode this morning. That bring pain to my heart and stress to my mind.

I watched last evening on C-SPAN a hearing held by the Commerce Committee, and this was a very interesting and very informative hearing as related to where we find ourselves today. The people on the panel spelled out some very serious things that are happening to All of us in very serious ways that may have not even crossed our minds because of all of the ‘ugly drama’ that Boehner creeps up to the mic to say nothing to the American people.

I hope someone will bring it , it that is okay with Chips to be viewed by out TOD family. Congress needs to hear from us until their ears and eyes fall to the ground and they all fall in this hell themselves. The hearing was very interesting.. HZ
