Good Morning Chips.
Mooooooorning Roberta, moooooooorning Marlz!!!
Good Morning Chips…and yes Roberta…we are both tied at first.
I literally tried to stay away from TOD as I was celebrating my week long birthday! That was the hardest thing I could imagine doing…DID.NOT.WORK! So here I am. So much happening so little time to catch up. If you miss a day, you miss a boatload of information.
Happy Birthday Marlz, I have mine on the 14th. Something going to happen in DC on the 14th right? Stop the GOP.
I start my BD celebration Sunday, Monday I am going on a bus trip to a Casino in Red Wing so play for the day with other Seniors in our building & eat my way through the buffet. Woot, Tuesday Lunch with Family & recuperate on Wednesday, maybe celebrating the opening of the GOV & debt ceiling fiasco end. In my prayers anyway. Hope you had a good week. It’s hard to stay away from this place & TPV.
See yo u all later, time to go to work today for a few.
Happy Birthday to all the celebrants recently. I haven’t kept up well and have missed a few. Enjoy!
Good morning Chips and TOD. Two beautiful men – a sight for sore, tired eyes.
Good Morning TOD
Good Morning Marlz, looks like we share 1st wooot!!.
I love George Clooney. Two gorgeous men. Makes this 71 yr old heart flutter. GOOOOD MOOORNING TODER’s. Back to the last thread. Still catching up.
Good morning everybody. Flooding has really devastated our area. Roads closed; some people evacuated, basements flooded. We’re getting a little break today, but rain is forecast again. I hope someone somewhere is enjoying dry and even sunny weather. Have a great day. Maybe the Senate will save the economy today. Fingers crossed, candles lit.
Good Saturday Morning Everyone!

Awesome…. Wise beyond her years!
isn’t she something? One young lady, a child when this all first started yet just this one girl brought up the importance of educating women in her country. And in spite of the things that have happened to her she has never wavered from this. I just think she’s incredible.
THIS! THIS! THIS!
Morning Everyone! Another day is another chance to make a difference in ways small and big.
great exchange between these two people!
It captures the sentiments of “card-carrying members of TODville”
Most people I know feel this way.

I’ll start any day with those two. Good morning everyone.
good happy Saturday morning Chips & TOD .. a little break in the rain here- finally- hopefully it’ll last. Cross your fingers for my 14 yr old son today… he is one of those quiet people (a rarity in my family) and threw us all into shocked mode when he joined the ‘debate club’ at school.. today is his first debate “tournament”.. and his last words before getting on the bus were: I just want to throw-up. The whole family will be there today to cheer him on- which may or may not please him
Your son is a smart cookie then. Good luck to him. And enjoy his time in the limelight.
thank you Roberta, he did pretty good and he did have a good time. His school fared pretty well also.. it was their first time, so not too shabby.
Whether he will admit it or not, he would probably be more disappointed if you (and the family) were not there. They really do appreaciate the support. I found that out from my son…especially when he was in high school when it starts to become a rarity for parents to be a presence at their children’s schools/events.
I’m rooting for your son and his team!
you’re correct sw, he did I think enjoy us being there- in fact we were the only family members at any of his 3 debates- and there were 6 of us- and we enjoyed all the kids immensely- it was a great way to spend a Saturday.. and luckily my kid enjoyed himself
That’s great Sherijr! The fact that he enjoyed himself will help to alleviate his anxiety going forward — your being there played a big part in that.
You may come to find (as I did) that not only did your son appreciate it, but his classmates/teammates also took notice of your presence. Over time, they may even begin to look at you as a surrogate parent/family. By supporting your son you are also supporting them.
OMG! I was a high school debater back in the day! He’ll be fine…it IS very unnerving, for sure! Hopefully, he’s got a great coach and I’m certain he’ll get better and better as time goes on. Please give him a thumbs up for me and I’m proud of him:) Tough to do, especially if you’re quiet by nature…that would NOT be me! Please tell us how it all went for him his first time out…..now, sherijr…..why the ” ” around debate club and tournament??? They are really, real!!
Let him know that he’s allowed to heave, but then he has to get right back out there! A debater’s motto: If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. Learn it:)
Love that df!
Kudos to your son, sherijr for choosing to overcome his fears and step out of the box. This will serve him well in today’s debate and throughout life. Well done!
Great photo to wake up to – two exceptionally good gentlemen who are setting high standards inside and out!!!
We are lucky they are on the same team and proud of each one’s contribution
The Republican Fever Is Down. It Hasn't Broken Yet newrepublic.com/article/115166…— Smarty Pants (@Smartypants60) October 12, 2013
Global, whether the fever is down or broken, Republicans are still hallucinating if they think this scorched earth approach to every issue is going to work with our president or enable them to keep the House. I think that these current antics will encourage many Democratic candidates who were a little daunted by the odds to step forward to challenge Republicans. Specifically, I hope and pray that people will step up in Boehner, Cantor and Ryan’s districts. They are all beatable with the right candidate.
I see some whiny tweets about Obama ‘caving in’. Will the loony left ever learn?
Yes, they are whining about the medical device tax being delayed. But they fail to recognize that the device tax is not a major component of the ACA.
Except it funds the ACA for the tax credits.
Thank you Roberta, I thought that the device tax would not be a major stressor if it was delayed or ended due to the volume of people that would eventually sign up for the ACA.
It’s estimated to save $30 billion over the next 10 years.
I saw that the other day.
Dems should ask for offsets by eliminating the oil & gas subsidies or some such.
Good Morning Chipsticks…TOD Early Birds!
“Pelosi Slams House GOP: I think they think everybody has a trust fund”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) talked about their meeting with the President, in which they spent a good deal of time discussing the hardship the shutdown is causing.
Ms. Pelosi explained why Republicans don’t seem to think the shutdown is hurting anyone – apparently they are so out of touch with the lives of everyday Americans that they can’t imagine a life sans trust funds, “I think they think everybody has a trust fund they can fall back on. They make noise about helping veterans, while a large number of people who are hurt are veterans, disabled veterans, veterans who are government workers who are not getting paid.”
While Republicans might not actually believe that everyone has trust funds, the point is that if you aren’t living paycheck to paycheck, it’s hard to appreciate the economic threat of one missed paycheck. People with stock portfolios (almost everyone in Congress) don’t understand the NO MORE MONEY concept.
#Congress now has a approval rating of 5%, hey #GOP you built that. http://t.co/qLxYxMJ4mI— Curtis (@ZonkerPA) October 12, 2013
Goodness trumps evil.
(UPI) –The United States Postal Service has fired a Fresno, Calif., mailman who admitted he threw away letters about “Obamacare.”
Residents of a Central Fresno apartment complex took photos of a nearby dumpster filled with mail about “Obamacare.” Witnesses saw the postal carrier discarding the mail.
“He just kept glancing over his shoulder over and over again. It was like he knew what he was doing was wrong,” said witness Jerry Dills. “It was just amazing, I looked down in there and there was a bunch of people’s addresses and right away… I knew this was absolutely wrong.”
Dills brought the mail from the dumpster to his local post office and filed a formal complaint.

They probably would now

Pete Santilli, the online radio host who helped organize the convoy to demand the resignation of President Barack Obama, among other causes. He told POLITICO on Tuesday that he hoped 3,000 truckers could inspire a general strike of “100 million people [to] get out on the street, get out on the roads and demand that our Legislature follow the Constitution.”
The protest drew widespread media attention starting Monday, when U.S.News & World Report reported the plan to clog the Beltway and said the truckers hoped to arrest congressmen. Protest organizers quickly disavowed Earl Conlon, the Georgia trucker who announced those plans. On Tuesday, The Washington Post took Conlon’s word when he said the whole thing was a hoax.
While Santilli told the media not to treat Conlon as a spokesman, Conlon continued acting like one on Twitter, blasting out messages like: “those people listening to the scum bag reporters let me make it clear this Protest is going to be PEACEFUL, !!!”
Supporters were all over Twitter on Friday, although one photo of a truck-jammed highway that made the rounds was actually from a Make-a-Wish Foundation charity event last spring in Lancaster, Pa. The sunny weather in the photo offered a hint that the photo wasn’t taken Friday in D.C.
These nuts aren’t even talking to each other and they expect 100 million to follow them. Atleast, the old gop had message control

Shutdown effect: Suspension of CDC flu surveillance program causes serious worries among health experts pentagonpost.com/shutdown-effec…— MΛЯGIΣ (@paeznyc) October 12, 2013
G’morning Chips & TOD!
Here is the latest from CSPAN on the shutdown and debt ceiling issues:
// On Saturday, the twelth day of the government shutdown, House Republicans and Democrats have scheduled activities before the 9:30am opening of the House floor session.
The House Republican Conference holds a meeting at 9am. Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and House Democratic leaders hold a 9:15am press availability to announce the signing of a discharge petition to bring a “clean” continuing resolution for a floor vote.
Over in the other chamber, Senators return for another weekend session. At noon, the Senate is set to take a test vote on a measure proposing to lift the debt ceiling through December twenty-fourteen. If cloture is achieved on Majority Leader Reid’s measure, the bill could be voted on mid-week. //
Reid’s bill is the Holy Grail; if he can get it passed it will tie the Republicans up for a year plus.
And if you’ve noticed, Reid’s bill gets very little or no mention on Cable/MSM “news.” Yet all other silly, time-wasting proposals put forth by the GOP are being given “special report” priority.
That tells me that the media is not reporting what is actually happening, but what THEY are hoping will happen, or what they want the public to think is happening.
Why do they do that Hopefruit? How does it really benefit them in the long run? No big or small business can run smoothly for years in a country with laws that aren’t upheld. That is really why we had the Bush recession. Selling off mortgages and no one can find the land deeds in the local courthouse. Plus the shenanigans by the banks. Overspending on a war that was sold as costing nothing; who believed that? I didn’t believe it for a minute. I really didn’t understand the Dems going along either.
Uh-Huh. same as it ever was.
Good morning, Chips and TODville.
The Senate will vote today at noon on cloture for Reid’s CLEAN bill to lift the debt ceiling through December 31, 2014.

LOL. At least, there is one smart ass in wapo tweet section.
I don’t even think about anything new now. My trust fund could be wiped out in one day if the don’t raise the debt. It’s not big enough to last three days. Here’s the last of my gold. Go for it. . .
More than enough? http://t.co/jprc8YlxFf— CarolMae (@CarolMaeWY) October 05, 2013
LOL!!. The Communist Party? What is that a tweet from the 1950′s?
What is going to happy them? A new phrase used by the kiddies?
I would caution everyone to not get info about the shutdown/debt ceiling from Cable “news” (i.e., CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX or such), but tune in to CSPAN to get first-hand sourcing of of what is actually happening – not what the GOP or cable sponsors want us to think is happening.
Since that horrible poll was released on Thursday evening, cable news has been bending over backwards to find some way in which they could help the GOP – and it appears they’ve received the instructions to make it seem as though PBO is going to “cave” in some way. That’s the only way they feel they could break the solid unity the Dems have had behind PBO, and division among Dems is the only way to help the GOP. If you saw the press briefing yesterday with Jay Carney, you would understand exactly what I’m referring to. So all these cable TV reports of PBO “negotiating” are BS.
thx for the heads up HF. These guys from the MSM are so pathetic
I rarely ever watch that mess. It’s all infotainment. They take political junkies on emotional roller coasters just because they can. I long ago gave up that addiction.
I generally wait until something has been confirmed by the WH before reacting.
Indeed donna. It’s all about infotainment. As Bobfr calls them – “Newstainers.”
I noticed that at the press conference on yesterday. It looked like the instructions to everyone was to to try to get Jay Carney to say that the President was “negotiating” (it had to be THAT word) with the Republicans. To their frustration, Jay did not fall for it.
sherijr mentioned above supporting her son’s debate today. I was just thinking—-this parenting support thing never ends. My very “growed up” daughter asked me to follow her in the half-marathon in Hartford, Ct. this a.m., which is going on as I type. Followed her dot on the google map for awhile (until I got restless ) and will return to see the finish. No matter how old they get, it’s still “Mom! Look at me!”
I fully understand/recognize that this guy probably doesn’t stand a chance of winning, but good for him……being willing to put himself “out there” and say he is a moderate Republican (in a very red area). And, notice what his number one goal/priority is: single-payer!!!!!!!!!! Wow. This, coming from a Republican!! Interesting read, for sure.
Yesterday, I spoke at a rally in front of our congresscritter’s office. Interesting event — pouring rain, building owner called police to bounce us from property, one tv station and two papers showed up. Needless to say, there was no one available from the critter’s staff to speak with us, however, they did manage to give a statement to the press. I put an excerpt of my remarks in the tweet below, please help me put him on the corner of “Front St & Blast”

Great statement, Alycee! Good for you to go down there and do that…I hope he heard you, even if it was after the fact. They ALL need to hear!!
thanks a lot for your work!
the least I can do is pass on the message
Anyone know more about the discharge petition process?
If Dems get the required number of signatures, then the petition is placed on the Discharge Calendar, which is considered privileged business only on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
So, I think that means it could be considered as early as Monday if they get the signatures. Doesn’t give them much time so the pressure will go into high gear starting NOW. Perhaps the Senate vote today will add some pressure, too.

You all are so right about “children” of whatever age wanting parents to support them. My children are in their forties, and still crave our support. Our son in law is an artist, and shows at various fests and festivals around town. He and our daughter love it when we come to the shows. And we love to go. His mom and sister and aunt also usually go…..family support is so important. Our son in Dallas calls his dad about every week to tell him what’s going on and feel his support.
I can remember when I was directing plays as a professor in college, I wanted my mother to come to the plays…I was in my forties then too. We never outgrow that desire for parental approval.
My heart aches for children who grow up without any of that support or approval, and their numbers are legion.
Any relibale, repeat reliable, info on dems’ discharge petition and on cloture vote on reid’s bill?
See just above about the discharge petition.
Cloture vote will happen at noon Eastern. Some Rs are balking and while I think we should be able to pass it I don’t have a real sense of how the vote will go.
First lady Michelle Obama welcomes Pakistani teen shot by Taliban upi.com/2195288— Alycee (@jazziz2) October 12, 2013
I watched her interview on the a Daily Show, she is a very bright, charming young lady. She described the Swat Valley as being so beautiful. She mentioned the Courts not being responsive and that was how the Taliban got in control. Then it escalated from there. I’m not sure what she meant by the courts, but to me that means that a country doesn’t have good control of its laws and not enforcing them equally. That seems to be what the GOP is trying to do. Or really the big only guys like the Koch heads.
Does anyone have a list of the Republican Congresspersons who said they would vote for a clean CR?
Shouldn’t we be “nudging” them like crazy today to sign the discharge petition???
They won’t. No way they want to be on the outs with their own party.
Riiiiiiiise and Shine!
This is outrageous!

Hey, TOD family! Been trying to catch up/keep up, however, body clock is still off, plus I’m dealing with personal heartache. Oct 1st was the ninth anniversary of my oldest son’s death, Oct 10th would have been his 36th birthday; this past Tuesday, my 91 yr old Uncle passed away, his funeral will be on the 15th; yesterday, a cousin suffered a tragic loss and I have another cousin that has been placed under hospice care. Request prayers for me and my family. Even with the heartache, my testimony continues to be “I won’t Complain.”
My sympathies Alycee and you were still out upholding your oath in the rain. May you find comfort.
Dear Alycee! I can’t imagine the pain you and your family are going through now. I pray that you will find some comfort in sweet music, sweet memories and loving arms of those around you.
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the losses of so many!
I am holding you and your family up for healing, protection and peace.
