On Eve Of Shutdown, House GOP Rigged The House Rules To Prevent Democrats Reopening Government
Under this special rule, such an attempt to fund the government “may be offered only by the majority Leader or his designee.” Thus, with a shutdown looming, the power to allow a vote that would likely have prevented the government from closing was left in Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) hands. Cantor, of course, chose not to exercise that power.
The GOP’s little rule change they hoped you wouldn’t notice
excellent find LadyHawke. ihe Gop is ridiculous. Who’s the dude sitting in the big chair?
Another great day to call @SpeakerBoehner (202) 225-0600 to demand an end to the #GOPshutdown! http://t.co/9YD606Duun— ProgressiveHelp PhD (@CallOut4) October 13, 2013

Hey .@ezraklein quite sure you knew this when you were talking abt how Dems have no plans to reopen govt. thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/1… No?— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) October 13, 2013
See .@ezraklein even GOP pundits are well aware that GOP needs to fix this mess. So, please proceed. nytimes.com/2013/10/13/opi…— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) October 13, 2013
Bob Orange Sherbert Joan of Arc and KornHacky giving thoughts about shutdown .
Yup, it’s now Bidens fault, not Obamas .
They are grasping at straws here…their emoprog desperation is beginning to kick in. They were all secretly hoping that PBO/Dems would have given in to something by mid-week last week, and that turned out to not be the case. Not even Allan Grayson or Bernie Sanders are appearing on MSNBC to trash PBO. So now the emos have to scrap their “Obama caves!” narratives, and put off the fundraising – until when, they don’t know.

That put a smile on my face. Thanks Chiparooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Happy Sunday morning! The dog was staring me down at 7:30 last night…this damn change to fall darkness is KILLING ME! Who goes to bed at 7:30??? Me. Chips, thanks for the bottle of BS…I took you up on that, which would be part of the reason for the 7:30 bedtime, just easier to blame the dog:)
This song popped into my head…. Chain of Fools…guess who!!
7:30??!!?? Now, that was a STRONG bottle of BS!!!! Morning DF!!!
Seriously:) I had ONE drink…coupled with the 3 HOURS of math tutoring AND the week from hell at work….WALA! 7:30, lights out! I miss all the fun here if I keep that up…this has to stop!! Morning, Chips:) Serious countdown to Danny now!!!
This is PERFECT, df! Hope you are nice and rested!
Love me some Ree-Ree in the Morning!
The WH, Senate Democrats and House Democrats certainly Do have a plan:
This hideous impasse—not of their making—— will be leveraged to relitigate the sequester.
Soon, I hope, the government will re-open, a longtime debt ceiling will be in place and a CR will do the funding until bloody and battered Republicans agree to spending levels sufficient to meet America’s needs.
A better world is possible.
Little Ezra is just mad that his predictions of an Obama cave are not panning out, and the Emos are getting restless and frustrated as a result….
F**k Herbert and Joan of Arc, before President Obama came into office we never had health care on a level such as Obamacare. Our gay brothers and sisters were getting kicked out of the military. Our gay brothers and sisters also had to endure DOMA. Without President Obama black farmers would have not gotten their money for all the injustice they had to endure. I could list many more things that would not have happened if not for President Obama. Life changing events have happened because of President Obama, not even the Democrat’s lord and savior Bill Clinton achieved what President Obama has achieved. So spare e what Herbert or Joan of Arc or any one of a thousand wanna-be leaders have to say when it comes to President Obama.
Good Sunday Morning Chipsticks…TOD Early Birds!!!
THIS is what needs to happen. The very words “debt ceiling” is a misnomer, sounding as if it is the authority to raise the amount of debt that America can take on, when in fact, it is just the authority to pay the bills that Congress has already approved. Many Americans don’t understand this, Republicans use this misnomer to confuse their already confused and ignorant base, and here we are.
I can’t seem to copy from this link, so here’s the original: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/10/11/here-are-three-options-for-ending-the-debt-ceiling-crisis-forever/
This is, by far, the easiest way to stop future debt-ceiling crises. Get rid of the debt ceiling. After all, it serves little purpose anyway — except to cause chaos.
A bit of history: Back when Congress enacted the statutory debt limit in 1917, it was arguably a useful device for Congress to prevent the president from spending however much he pleased. But since 1974, Congress has created a formal budget process to control spending levels. The debt ceiling doesn’t do anything to determine the level of spending. It only allows the Treasury Department to pay for bills Congress has already racked up.
As such, many experts don’t see why there’s any need for a separate debt ceiling — especially when a failure to lift it is so devastating. In a January survey of academic economists by the University of Chicago, 84 percent agreed that having a debt ceiling “creates unneeded uncertainty and can potentially lead to worse financial outcomes.”
So how do you repeal it? One option would be to simply roll back the 1917 statute. But maybe that wont fully solve the problem. After all, Article I of the Constitution clearly states that only Congress has the power “[t]o borrow Money on the credit of the United States.”
If we did this, Republicans would no longer have a way to extract a RANSOM from the people to get their way…so the ONLY WAY to even get Congress to consider this intelligent scenario, is to VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS AND GET RID OF THESE REPUBLICAN RANSOM TAKERS/ TERRORISTS!! VOTE!
Good morning you lot. I see that several of you have left port under a full head-o-steam. Hopefully toward calm waters.
This is great, but I can’t get it off of here!! HELP! ( and yes, I would!)
That’s excellent, DF!
Thanks for getting this here for all to see:) Isn’t that the truth!
It’s brilliant DF, and so so so so so true!

Daisy and her friends look quite content amid the hustle and bustle of storm preparations.
Amazingly, the casualty is only in single digit so far. Both federal and state govts did a good job of moving nearly 900,000 people to shelters.
This is excellent news, amk! Thanks for the update
Yup, entire India is relieved since last time nearly 20,000 people perished. Extensive property damage but that can always be rebuilt.
My Jenny and her new BF, Mac. Guess who is Mac? http://t.co/9mX5JboHZp— (@amk4obama) October 13, 2013
Amk! Did you get a new dog, is that jenny’s permanent new best friend, or just a visitor??
Yup. Her new BF for life. And No, we can’t have that wimmin ruling the roost.
See, now I feel bad. I’ve been going on about Danny for about a month, you just quietly go out and get a new dog with considerably less fuss! Congratulations – what a lovely couple!
Thanks. Only now jenny is a bit peeved that there is competition and hence completely ignores him. You can see that in the pic. Mac is a bit too rambunctious.
Yeah, my fault we got her a BF.

Good comment by Henrik Hertzberg at The New Yorker on the 14th Amendment.
“What also matters, of course, is: compared with what? In the end, Obama could have no honorable choice but to invoke the Fourteenth. There is little doubt that he would prevail. The Supreme Court would be unlikely even to consider the matter, since no one would have standing to bring a successful suit: when the government pays its bills, who is damaged? The House Republicans might draw up articles of impeachment, adopt them, and send them to the Senate, where the probability of a conviction would be zero. This would not be a replay of Bill Clinton and the intern. President Clinton was not remotely guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, but he was guilty of something, and that something was sordid. Yet impeachment was what put Clinton on a glide path to his present pinnacle as a wildly popular statesman. President Obama would be guilty only of saving the nation’s economy, and the world’s. It would be all he could do to head off a post-Bloombergian boomlet to somehow get around another amendment, the Twenty-second, and usher him to a third term. ♦”
A lovely picture of POTUS and Sasha.
The entire First family, lovely.
