Back in a bit!
Congrats Allison, and hello. I’ve been gone and just turn on Cspan.
Glad to be here.
Congrats on 1st Allison.
Chips, thanks for the posts. It has been a fantastic day.
A pleasure Allison, thank you!
Yes, thanks Chips.
Agree with Allison, Chips……. you’ve been pumping out posts with an efficiency not seen since the concoctions you produce whenever you venture in to the kitchen
Ha, thank you LP – I think!!!
LOL…….all in good fun!
That’s good to hear.
I guess it’ll be a very late night waiting for the House and Senate to vote..
Does anyone know if the President will speak to us no matter how late the vote is?
My cynical self thinks that delaying the vote until the wee hours is yet another GOP tactic.
This is so heartwrenching. Truly. It is.
These fools in DC need to see this and stop thinking about themselves.
I can understand this. It’s a reflex and sign of acknowledgement that few outside the military understand. I will even do it, under certain circumstances, to this day and I’ve been away from the military for over 40 years….(water works)!
Thank you for your service, sir.
It was an honor.
This is quite a story. I just wish that the amount of emotion expressed in this video was equal to the outrage that the GOP should be experiencing for voting against the Vets Jobs Bill. These military folks have an uncommon valour.
One day OBAMACARE will be a way of healthcare in American life. It will be President Obama's legacy. THAT irks certain Republicans.— Victoria Rowell (@victoriarowell) October 16, 2013
Wonderful actress and her tweet speaks truth.
Yes that irks them….FDR still irks them for Soc Sec, and LBJ still irks them for Medicare. They live in a constant state of “irkdom!” And always on the wrong side of life and history.

Words from the Sen. Marco Rubio on the Floor now. He’s warning of disaster far and wide!
What is Rubio’s problem. Didn’t get enough breast milk last night?
One can never get enough breast milk.
You are speaking for about ~50% of the population!
But back to the topic of Rubio and his insatiable appetite for various liquids…
Must not believe in reality – too harsh – can’t believe we didn’t get our way – y’all will pay for this….I mean it!!! (stomps foot/pouts)
Who cares about Rubio? Get him some water.
To be honest, this feels like election night 2008 and the outcome all but certain.

Love that Japa.
Thank you. This was not the work of one man or one woman, but Reid and Pelosi, with the example of PBO before them, kept their troops together, and we all know herding cats is easier than keeping Dems together.
Yet media is trying to give credit to Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell. Not once did I hear Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid’s name mentioned. And as for PBO, the only context in which his name has been mentioned in MSM today is the ACA website glitches….
Well, I did put a qualifier there that pretty much eliminates most of the media.
We certainly do! thanks Bob!
Yikes! I didn’t read who the author of this tweet was – it’s Japa, not Bob.
My apologies Japa. You do good tweets too!
You would pop in and notice this – wouldn’t you!
tsk, tsk, tsk!
Countdown to Danny……….
I started to tell you the tale of my naughty little dog, but decided you didn’t need to hear it just now.
Thanks and although I noticed, the mere fact the tweet was of such quality you thought it might be Bob’s is flattery enough.
Thank you kind sir because it is a good one!
Thank you Sir for recognizing these exceptional public servants who always put the interests of the Country above politics.
House Dems Sent Boehner a Message: Strike a Deal and Maybe We Can Help Protect Your Speakership
He said, “I’ll get back to you.”
About two weeks ago, as tea partiers in the GOP-controlled House were forcing a government shutdown, some House Democrats sent a private and informal message to House Speaker John Boehner: If you need to break with the die-hard conservatives of your caucus to keep the government running and avoid a debt ceiling crisis, we might be able to try to help you protect your speakership, should far-right Republicans rebel and challenge you. This offer was conveyed to Boehner just as he was entering what has turned into the toughest stretch of his speakership, according to two senior House Democratic lawmakers who each asked not to be identified.
That was a very generous offer, Nena, that would never be returned under any circumstances from Boehner to Pelosi. Generosity exists on one side only.
Yes indeed, Jackie G!

LABRADOR: You guys in the media continue to report that what conservatives were asking for was a full repeal of Obamacare — that’s absolutely false. We have never asked for a full repeal of Obamacare because we know that we can’t get that. We have voted on a full repeal of Obamacare that the Senate has rejected every single time.
But what we were asking for, our position from the beginning, was exchanging a one-year [continuing resolution] for a one-year delay of Obamacare. That was something that we thought both sides were giving on something. We would be giving on the fact that we wouldn’t be fighting the president anymore for a year on funding the government, and the president would be giving on a one-year delay of Obamacare. So every time you write a story that says that Republicans and conservatives were unreasonable in asking for a complete repeal of Obamacare, you have actually been lying to the American people.
I think Chris Hayes told this Labrador person that he is a ” Rising Star ” in the GOP.
Labrador quit the immigration gang .
I just came from walking out of my weekly art guild meeting! Today was impossible for me and I said if you are not going to abide by our no politics here agreement I am leaving. I have mentioned before that I am surrounded by diehard Republicans as I live in a rural area in a blue state. So it could be worse and half of our guild members are Dems. No other Dem was there today. I have tried reason, facts and everything possible before we decided to leave politics out of our premises. I see that there are many people that are just not reachable.
Sad but true…… Sorry you had such a frustrating day, when art guild should be a haven.
What the GOP didn't expect: A totally united Dem Party. Hopefully a sign of things to come because it spells doom for GOP and a win for US.— john miller (@deaconmill) October 16, 2013
You’re on tweety fire, Mister!
Japa is on fire like PBO!
You know Hopefruit, I’m beginning to think they’re one and the same!
Sometimes I feel that way. Notice that every time you post a pic of FLOTUS….
Hmm…… an excellent observation Hopefruit …. hmm….
Could you just let us know if you’ll be addressing the nation tonight – afraid to go out in case you do. Thanks Sir.
If I do, the wink will be for you.

A hand full of those TP House members have announced Senate bids. The shutdown will be an issue…— Goldie Taylor (@goldietaylor) October 16, 2013
Now Goldie seems to be echoing a concern that Jovie expressed earlier – that the GOP is going to try to pull a stunt in which they only raise the debt ceiling but continue to keep the government closed.
WHY!?!?!?!?!?!??! What good does that accomplish?!?!?!?!?
Okay – nevermind my mini-meltdown here. I see what she’s saying. She’s talking about the Tea Baggers in the House who want to run for Senate in 2014. They have caused problems for themselves.
They will find that running statewide is a whole different ball game. You can’t play the types of games that they are playing and expect to get the majority of a state to vote for them. They can not win with just conservative/teaparty votes in a statewide election.
So will Darrell Issa be having and conducting hearings to determine who caused US 900K jobs per Moody Group since Jan 2011 and a 1% drop in GDP?
Now this current manufactured crisis has cost over $15B per CBS evening News last Week.

Any Republican who has been within touching distance of the shutdown and debt ceilling fiasco might as well forget 2016. No chance to win.— john miller (@deaconmill) October 16, 2013
I truly believe that people will not forget this shutdown when they are in the voting booth. A lot of people were affected in their pocketbooks, especially small businesses. I was concerned about my 401k losing again, since I am now retired. Of course I was also concerned for all of the people who were affected by this.
Not so sure. I ran into someone at work who didn’t even know there was a government shutdown. I’ve always thought of her as fairly bright – now, not so much… She’s certainly not alone in her ignorance.

How 2 Depose Boehner nym.ag/1c0Xa5B "…House GOP rule is an unmitigated & unsalvageable calamity for the US" http://t.co/32Iatd2gcD— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) October 16, 2013
“This sounds unlikely, and it is. But it’s not impossible. These sorts of coups have happened in the state of Washington and in Texas. It is, sadly, easier to imagine this happening after the disaster of a debt-ceiling breach than before, even though it would be far saner to forestall a catastrophe than to react to one. But it’s increasingly clear that House Republican rule is an unmitigated and unsalvageable calamity for the United States, and resolving that calamity is where the energies of sane people must be directed.”
This put a smile on my face
oh dear… I just snorted…!
Politico is reporting that the Reid-McConnell deal includes the McConnell rule on raising the debt ceiling: basically, the debt ceiling will go up unless Congress can override a Presidential veto. If that’s the case, the GOP has unilaterally disarmed. They started this mess roaring into battle, and were just handed their Waterloo.
This one said it all, LL:
unreal. to end up where we started cost us $24 BILLION. #shutdown— Sam Stein (@samsteinhp) October 16, 2013

Fixed it for you! | .@samsteinhp: unreal. to end up where we started cost us $24 BILLION. #GOPshutdown— Alycee (@jazziz2) October 16, 2013
Way to go Alycee in calling a spade a spade! If the media people won’t tell the whole truth, we can always count on TOD twitter warriors to set them straight.
I had the same reaction, Alycee. They are still giving cover to the GOP by avoiding pointing the direct and well-deserved finger at the people who caused this mess.
You have got to be kidding, LL, I know damn well McConnell didn’t just make that concession? My god, who’s advising McConnell, the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Ok, I’ve read the Politico story, and it seems that this concession only applies to this debt limit. I’m also reading the text of the Senate bill, and it does seem to apply just to this instance. But I will leave it to those better versed in legalese to parse the language.
Here's the full text of the Senate bill to raise the debt ceiling and end the shutdown: scribd.com/doc/176682822/…— brad plumer (@bradplumer) October 16, 2013
I need a translator. And I used to be a paralegal.
Don’t feel like the lone stranger. I used to read and help write these bills as part of my job at OLA and I’m having a hard time following. Would be much easier with strike-throughs and replacement text in italics…
Thanks. I was feel uber-stupid.
Wow, Ezra Klein is really going all out against the Obamacare ‘glitches’, endless stream of stuff from him bashing every aspect of it, amazing stuff. No wonder Drudge is his new best friend.
Ezra is like a little kid that you baby-sit, though he gets into mischief from time to time, half the battle is just knowing where he’s at.
Ah, excellent!! Mystified by him, though, he’s just taken on this smart-assed mocking tone about the glitches, tweeting and writing about them relentlessly, not a single reference to all the stories coming out about how the ACA is changing people’s lives for the better.
He is trying to shift the MSM narrative. He probably is not very happy about the outcome of the gov’t shutdown – because there are no “obama caves” stories for him to write about and the Emoprogs have very little material at this point.
i think you hit on it, hopefruit. he probably pre-wrote a whole series on pbo’s caving and shaming, which he now has to tear up.
Indeed Susanne. It must be a real wretched feeling having to now shred all those manuscripts you stayed up many nights working on (and getting high over).
Lil’ Ezra is weeping and gnashing his teeth! He’s taking out all his anger and frustration on the ACA website.
I avoid Ezra as much as I can, but he is squarely in the CW “OMG ACA rollout is a disaster” group, which seems to be the entire DC echo chamber.
Don’t these pundits remember being about 100% wrong on *everything* this year? Don’t they realize that we’ve tuned out (I hope that’s the case for most people).
Pointless speculation and no corrections for the many times they’ve been wrong means they’re just talking amongst themselves at this point.
What really bothers me is that it is impossible for them to shift the narrative. They are only capable of viewing whatever “debacle” they’re reporting on from their blinkered perspective. Thus we get NSA “scandal” (shocker – you should be careful what you post online), IRS “scandal,” Susan Rice and Larry Summer snubs, ACA debacle.
They are unable to consider what actual horrors look like, such as war, being unable to purchase health insurance, etc.
So annoying that the echo-chamber is in lockstep against ACA. They are all on the wrong side of history, and I hope their editors have longer memories than the GOP.
Karma will introduce herself to him one day soon.
Ezra always wanted to be a villager and now he is one. He and his wife do not like this president and will do everything in order to attack the president.
I knew this would be the next bright shiny toy. I heard Klein say that we should be discussing the glitches once when the topic was shutdown. This was a real clue.
Yes, I meant to say that in my response to HF2 above.
He was on some MSNBC show last week and was filled with glee when he dramatically announced that the ACA debacle was the real story, and that the Obama Adm should be grateful for a diversion from the “real” story.
That’s why I detest these snobby, smug “pundits” who are incapable of viewing the world from any perspective than their own.
am I the only person who cares nothing about the glitches? I can’t fathom any person who has gone years without health insurance or unaffordable insurance sitting back and saying… omg these glitches are so bad, I refuse to get health care.
I don’t see it happening at all so these Obamacare glitches on website is simply stupid.
All reasonable, thinking, empathetic people are shaking our heads at the insensitivity and shallowness of these Ezra-types, who care nothing for those who are finally able to see health security after so long. I could care less about glitches. We already know that when President Obama is involved, they keep working at something until it’s right. So, this “glitches” story is nonsense. The real story is the people being helped. Full stop.
I don’t want to post what I’m thinking about Klein right now….but lets just say that he and Ms. Lowery could both use a vacation. Their Obama obsession is out of control!
That’s because he got Drudge linked yesterday…….. riding the wave of click bait. He is a despicable tool!

Recent gifts from Canada: Ted Cruz, Keystone, and the company that built Healthcare.gov. Time to keep an eye on the northern border?— Jon Favreau (@jonfavs) October 16, 2013
Every once in a while you just bomb on Twitter. Favs just had his moment.
Incredibly dumb of him.
Not to justify Fav’s tweet, but he is referring to the fact someone in HHS IT department didn’t do due diligence when hiring the company to create Healthcare.gov. That company was fired by the Candian government for the same problems a year prior to being hired by CMS/HHS. http://iowntheworld.com/blog/?p=208042
This comes after Gibbs went of Alex Wagner’s show saying whoever built the site should be fired……providing more cable fodder.
Nice to know the people who are supposed to be a counterbalance to misinformation are sometimes more self-interested……
Yeah. It’s a blunder, to be sure. I wish we could talk about the truth dispassionately without it screaming AGENDA. Ah, the good old days when the news informed and didn’t sensationalize.
When he thinks about it later, he is going to wish that he could take that back. Specifically about healthcare.gov.
I think everybody is a little punch-drunk from this week’s drama.
As I said, every once in a while you drop a stinker on Twitter. Favs just had his.
something must be up Chips. First Gibs and now Jon? Jon doesn’t go off script.
Yeah, surprised by both of them Nospin, glitches inevitable, why aren’t they focusing on all the wonderful Obamacare stories??
I think this is deliberate deflection. The timing is …odd… we are not even 1 hour past the debt ceiling debacle.
Something is going on I am curious to see what that is.
