I am so proud of our President
Yes we are! Congrats, Trekkiewife. Let us all press the media to amplify President Obama’s message. They enabled the dysfunction, and now they need to make amends.
I am too trekkiewife.
Ain’t he just the greatest!! I live in Alabama and I can tell you that there are some here that really like him but feel so uncomfortable speaking about him, well, it’s almost like a secret club.
The building I work in is so Republican/Tea Party heavy that I feel like you have to walk on egg shells. When they start talking about President Obama negatively, I just tell them, “I would prefer not to speak about politics with you because no matter what he does, even if he takes a few of the republican ideas, you won’t like him. If he gave you a cabillion dollars tax free, you would still hate his guts”…sad.
They are my friends, really they are, but they know not to speak to me about PBO. LORD have mercy!!
Okay, what is going on here? Trying to confuse me? It won’t take much.
UT just stompled on LP and kicked her to the side.
LP is a guy and I’m not the one editing. Chipsticks is. Don’t throw around baseless accusations.
Aw, I think Japa was just kidding around. Don’t take his comment so seriously.
UT, I was just kidding.
Thanks for clarifying. You should have made that clear from the onset. I don’t want TODers thinking I saw LP’s post and deliberately posted a new thread and shoved him aside. That would be rude.
I would never use the word rude when talking about you, unless it was the way you talked to Chips about ManU
This was a crossing of traffic, Japa. Was posting something prior to going to class. The fault is on my end….didn’t realize UT had a post ready in the queue…. not her fault at all. Apologies to everyone for the confusion!
No problems. I figured that must be what happened. Jeez, nobody can take a joke nowadays.
You didn’t indicate that it was a joke. The internet doesn’t have a joke button and the onus was on you to make that clear not make it sound like you were accusing me of something weird.
I don’t want two of my most-loved people on planet earth falling out, pleeeeease! Once again everyone, it was me who stepped in to sort out the double post, not UT, she made hers private once she saw LP’s, but she had already been working on hers by then so I – me! – wanted it to go first. Just to avoid this in the future, please blog tyrants, just DM me or UT if you want to post something, that way we’ll avoid double-posts. Thanks! Back in a bit.
Hahaha. Japa and I are good Mrs. Rooney. You can rest easy.
I second that. Kind of like brother and sister squabbling. All in good fun with honest love and respect behind it.
I gotta step in! It was me who sorted out the double-posting, UT had already been working on her post so that needed to go first. I’ll sort it out later, only five hours, 36 minutes behind my deadline today, see ya in a bit.
HI everyone, there was a clash of posts there so I’ve made LP’s private and published UT’s – thank you UT, back in a while.
LP!!! where are you???!!!!! come baaacccckkkkkkkkk………
Now i cannot find that other post on which I recently entered a comment. Utal? P. Plains? Trying to mess up my mind are you both?
vc, I feel like we’re in a tornado – hang onnnnnnn
I decided to go for a walk through the last post – I wasn’t initially going to go backwards – until the winds/dust settles.
Wait up – I’ll go back with you
I’m there already, doing a more careful read, than I had done during my previous breeze through. Will wave if I see you in the crowd.
vc, where ever you are….I’ve sent you an email.
Fact: The number of Oregonians without health insurance dropped 10% in just 2 weeks —> bit.ly/1cyCbF8 #ThanksObamacare #GetCovered— David Simas (@Simas44) October 17, 2013
We never hear any of these positive stories from the media. They are to busy b******* about the glitches.
And there are tons of these stories. David Corn is collecting a bunch on Twitter. I never go to twitter without seeing a whole slew of new ones. Even the Orange Satan is has them. I just saw a diary there that the preliminary numbers from states running their own exchanges are ahead of schedule on sign-ups. and ALL exchanges are ACA.
OFA and all kinds of sites. But no – the media will carry on about the computers. Jackasses.
The president’s speech today was absolutely brilliant and necessary and I’m glad the WH filled the room with real people and workers, rather than the idiot press corps. Looking at interested faces actively listening, rather than smirking, was very refreshing and a much needed antidote to the last two weeks. Finally found and got to see Nancy Pelosi’s press conference and was so impressed with her respect for facts which is so sorely missing among Republicans. I hope her remarks push the press to insist on access to the budget talks so that the Republican idiocy can be shown in the full glare of the lights and cameras. Our job is make sure people never forget that 62 percent of the Republican caucus voted to bring down the economy and continue the government stoppage. The full force of this outrageous action needs to be brought home in every phone call we make to voters.
terrific comment JG.
Did you see the article below? This shutdown is going haunt the GOP from now on. If the fallout from the Republican Shutdown doesn’t wake these fools up, they are in for a rude awakening. I have not seen President Obama this angry in a long time. He is not playing.
You’ll Pay for This, GOP
How Obama will make the 2013 shutdown a political weapon.
Just read it, LH, and I would be thrilled if this shutdown became a political weapon. The president sets the tone and provides the framework, but we will all have to learn to use these weapons ourselves block by block, district by district across the country.
The President’s speech was pitch perfect. He is the BEST MOST AMAZING President EVAR!!
@BarackObama picks Jeh Johnson thebea.st/1gOKfnU Top @DeptofDefense lawyer (pushed through DADT) during 1rst term, to lead the @DHSgov.— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) October 17, 2013
President Obama plans to announce his intention to nominate Jeh Johnson, who served as the Defense Department’s general counsel during the administration’s first term, at a White House ceremony tomorrow, one of the sources said
Johnson, a well-known and trusted figure in the Obama White House, was a central player in many of the administration’s most sensitive national security and counterterrorism policies, including the ramping up of the drone program, the revival of military commissions to try suspected terrorists, and the repeal of the Defense Department’s ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces
So all the emoprog hullaballoo about POTUS picking NYC police chief Ray Kelly for HS was fiction, as usual
Has there ever been a time when the emos were right about anything where PBO is conerned? ANYTHING? LOL!
I just saw an ad against De Blagio for Gov in New York. Can you say Willie Horton? Disgusting.
Did you mean deBlasio? Isn’t that for Mayor?
yes, that’s it mayor, deBlasio. The ad was complete with the motorcycle guys banging on the car window and a lady on the subway appearing afraid with graffiti all on the walls. There were other clips done at a fast pace with the announcer saying very ominously that this is what to expect again if he wins.
Thanks for the correction.
That is utterly disgusting.
This is another way in which the Republicans are out of touch with the electorate. New York City had a heavy crime problem back in the 1980′s. There was a “Willie Horton” subcontext of race, in that the “liberal mayor” of NYC was a reason for the high crime rate. Things and the people have changed. New York is now multicultural, multiracial, and international in a way that wasn’t true before. And in a city where the crime rate has so plummeted that young yuppies now live in Harlem and the Bronx, it won’t work. Especially when the young yuppies are black and Latino and asian and first-generation immigrants whose parents came there after 1990 or so.
Exactly Carol! Very well-said. The GOP is really out of touch and need to get with the times – quick.
It was essentially the new Obama coalition that made deBlasio the nominee. Calling deBlasio a “radical” and trying to scare New Yorkers regarding his support for the Sandanistas doesn’t work when a lot of those folks who fled the civil war there now live here. The Republicans have’n't come to terms with the fact that there’s a whole new generation of kids who were born after the fall of the Berlin Wall, another group that was under ten, and a whole bunch of us who lived during it all and like not living in fear anymore.
That ad might have worked in the Koch/Dinkins/Giuliani era. However, I can assure you that it won’t work now. Not in 2013.

What’s up with Steven Benen’s site? I haven’t been to the blog roll for awhile, which is odd for me. But there’s nothing current on the link?
Steve Benen is on MSNBC; on the Maddow blog. Did you check that? He also tweets links to his new articles so you can also check Twitter.
The blog roll link was weird. But there’s also a direct link on the right hand side of TOD, which brought me to the current stuff. I always got right to the MaddowBlog from the Blog roll link, so I was startled. Not that big a deal.
I saw in my twitter feed that the BRAND NEW MSNBC site launched on Tuesday, I believe.
It looks like this:
has replaced “maddow blog” — it’s what Google links me to…
Thanks! That’s why! Much appreciated.
MNBC is in changeover mode to their new website. You will find The maddow Blog there with a new look. Very nice, IMHO.
Remember when emoprogs were certain PBO was going to nominate Ray Kelley for Homeland Security? HA!
Yep, meta, and I remember all the hysterical petitions, which I deleted, unsigned.
Kudos for remembering emoprog blather.
For me, it’s the proverbial “in one ear, out the other” unless they really infuriate me (which is most of the time, LOL), so I only RTS of emoprogs.
This is offered tongue-in-cheek, so please, no offense to anyone in the TOD family.
Every emoprog pundit needs to have a designated BBFF (best black friend forever), someone to bounce the cockamamey (sp) ideas the emoprog comes up with. The BBFF could say to the emoprog, “WTF? You think POTUS would entertain for ONE SECOND a stop-and-frisker like Ray Kelly as Homeland Security Chief? Have you lost your MARBLES???”
Would save a whole lot of embarrassing speculation that emoprogs have decided failed at this year.
Nah, I think they’re all part of the folks POTUS mentioned this morning – the ones who profit off of conflict and discord!
They are deluded enough to think that the President’s choices will be impacted by their drivel.
Remember this? “In his second term Hillary will be VP and Biden will be SOS.”
I have a question on the % of voters that came out to vote in NJ. I voted by mail. In New Jersey we can now vote by mail. Does the percentages that the media are pushing, include all those voters. I know that Senator Elect Cory Booker was going to events and encouraging us to vote by mail.
I would think so. If your vote had to be in my election day, I would assume it would be included in the totals. But what do I know?
Thanks for answering, 57. I wasn’t sure if they were included in the totals or were added after.
Mary Landrieu surges ahead in the polls ahead of her Repub challenger. So what’s that about red state Senators having to be afraid of voting for what’s right?
Good news. Mary Landrieu is the best democrat we can hope for in Louisiana.
Is it true that in LA the Landrieu family is very popular? Not just mary but Mitch also? And are there others in public service?

Your afternoon must-read: Benen eviscerates Fournier – http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/remember-the-pundits-who-urged-obama-cave
Greg Sargent had a good back and forth with him this morning on Twitter and @KagroX also had some funny tweets mocking him.
Ron Fournier prints out the same BS, morning, afternoon, and night. He desperately searches for respect and credibility like some search for the fountain of youth.
And, as I posted below, there is now a parody Twitter account. Good times.

“Va. kicks 40K off voter rolls over Dems’ objection”
Virginia elections officials say they have already purged nearly 40,000 names from the voter rolls, despite an ongoing lawsuit filed by Democrats seeking to keep those voters registered.
The Democratic Party of Virginia filed suit in federal court earlier this month over plans to purge as many as 57,923 names ahead of November’s gubernatorial election between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli. State officials pushed for the purge based on evidence from a multistate database that the voters had subsequently registered in other states. Democrats say the list is riddled with errors.
Democrats are seeking an injunction that would order the purged voters restored to the rolls. A U.S. District Court judge is scheduled to hear arguments Friday.
The only way the GOP can “win” is to cheat.
So sad and so true
EVERY state needs to be subjected to Pre-Clearance!
There are times when it is appropriate to clear up the voter rolls. For example, people move, reregister in another location but keep their old registration active, people move, etc. However, indiscriminate purging is unacceptable.
Since, unfortunately, the states get to determine the processes, it is important that Dems get elected so this type of purging doesn’t take place.
Now if I were the King, then I would dictate the following conditions for removing someone from the rolls:
1. There must be a very specific set of circumstances required that allow names to be removed. (Note: being a minority doesn’t count.)
2. Convicted felons who have served their time should be allowed to vote.
3. Prior to any removal, at least 3 legitimate attempts must be taken to contact that person which would include
a. Standard mailing of notification
b. If no response, a certified letter must be sent out.
c. A personal visit must be made to the person’s listed address.
4. Every effort must be made, via checking DMV, for example, to determine if person moved or is registered under another address.
In addition, same day registration should be allowed in every state.
All that would be a start toward some fairness.
Republicans are nothing but disgusting. So they want the Cooch to steal this election, huh? They are not pro-democracy.

Here’s VP Biden being Joe
Love the Man!
Love that woman at the end who took a picture with Biden. I would have done the same. He’s so handsome!
It is really hard to imagine how Christie can have a 20+% lead over Buono in a state that just gave Booker an 11% victory.
For some reason, New Jerseyites love Christie. I don’t get his charms, but he’s always been a popular governor.
Tough guy sopranos dude.
The popularity started after Sandy in 2012. Prior to that he fluctuated in the polls.
Dems in the state house ….a few prominent of them did deals with Christie and fractured the Dems. Divide and conquer was what Christie did. The Dems were muted and even though NJ is struggling since Christie……most voters are not aware of the problemd for many Dems went and endorsed Christie over the Dem Candidate.
Buono is STILL an unknown with 34% (Quinnipiac) saying they don’t know enough about her. She and her advisers need to do a better job. And the people of NJ need to wake up to the RW mole that is Christie.
People need to remember that Booker had a smaller margin and vote total due to low turnout during a special election on a Wednesday. In 2014 he will win by a much larger margin.
The reason why Christie is doing well is because of his response to hurricane Sandy and working with President Obama. I’m no fan of Christie but democrats have also won governorships in red states so it can go both ways. And Buono is not well known and not well funded.
Give ‘em hell Harry!
I won't subject Social Security benefits to a stupid trade during budget negotiations. huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/17/har…— Senator Harry Reid (@SenatorReid) October 17, 2013
Love that he’s standing firm! Go on, Harry.
I wanted to correct something that was said about President Obama’s margin in New Jersey during the 2012 election. President Obama won New Jersey by 17 points and usually Democrats win the state by 15-20 or more points.
Ed Markey won his seat in the special election in Mass. by a similar margin as Corey Booker but when they run for a full term in 2014 they will win by 20 + % in a regular election year in a blue state. Some in the media are reading too much into special election results.
Thank you, jziglar! I was at the campaign office the Camden County Commitee Headquarters in Cherry Hill last night, and they were very happy with the result. We had made 10,000 calls for GOTV.
As for Christie it’s unfortunate that some of the dems, big money, aren’t backing Buono, but Buono has the support of most of the unions and I know the group I’m with, South Jersey Citizens For Change, are going to do what we can to get out the vote.
Some in the media have an agenda which requires them to find fault with any Democratic victory (and trust me, that agenda does not involve getting more Democrats to vote or raising Democratic enthusiasm). We would be wise to call them out on their bullshit, while not falling for the propaganda ourselves. I saw on prior threads people stressing about what Rep Tom Cole said about the shutdown and ACA, and it quite frankly puzzled me. Cole is a GOP member of the House, his party has just been soundly defeated and embarrassed and he is trying to deflect attention from that defeat by criticizing ACA. Why we should care what spin or bullshit he chooses to spew (and the MSM forces upon us, if we choose to watch) is beyond my comprehension. Democrats unexpectedly won a House seat in Florida and Booker won a convincing victory in NJ. Turnout was low in NJ (which is to be expected in a special election held on a Wednesday) but the fact remains that the Democrat won. Only the 4th AA was elected to the U.S. Senate in the Nation’s history. That is a BFD that I refuse to allow the MSM to taint or minimize. I, for one, will not be cowed into feeling guilty for enjoying Democratic victories, as if Democrats have to be miserable in order to be effective (if 2010 taught us anything it is that depressed and demoralized democrats do not vote). In short, acknowledging victories does not equal complacency or low turnout. I tend to believe that if Democrats begin to carry and see themselves as “winners”, we would attract more voters into our party. Call out the GOP/MSM lies and bullshit, but don’t let said lies and bullshit steal your joy or affect your reality.

It’s so good to be able to post again…so much going on professionally and personally. I’ve been lurking whenever possible because this is my only place of sanity. I had to just say that the sight of the happiness of the government employees returning to work…brought me to tears. It gave me pause…griping about the job notwithstanding, I really do enjoy what I do. Everyone needs their paycheck, but loving what you do is soul satisfying.
This has been a wonderful day. Love you guys and I love my President.

It looks like they are listening. I hope it is not on a weekend. Unless it is to replace Steve Kornacki.
I think it seems like the new pundits start out on the weekends and when they get that under their belt successfully advance to weekdays. It may have to do with the workload and number of hours involved. If she is on the weekend I will have to record the show.
‘ My own analysis of current surveys indicates that in a Congressional election today, Democrats would retake the House with >90% probability and a 50-seat margin. Last week I pointed out that assuming historical patterns, by next November that probability for the actual election diminishes to 50% or less.
However, the last two weeks have been quite strange – as evidenced by the fact that you are visiting the Princeton Election Consortium, reading about polls an entire year before a midterm election! So something might be different. I’ve never seen such a rapid and large shift in the generic Congressional preference. ‘

Why should ANYBODY care what this guy thinks? If Costa says that “the earth is flat” or “shit smells good” does that increase the validity of such statements? I miss the old days when a person had to be correct a few times before people cared what he/she had to say about a situation. Sadly, those days seem to be long gone.
