Even though I wasn’t here when the gates were opened, I’m crying ‘Foul!’! That’s all…… (Well except for the fact that I hope Danny pays you back for me tomorrow.)

I think we know that Ezra Klein and his wife are anti-Obama administration. They don’t like this President. I think you would find Mr. and Mrs. Klein paling around with Glen Greenwald and Edward Snowden.

I’m trying to imagine the database that has to be built on the back end of this system……..seems daunting.

      • October 18, 2013 at 7:08 pm

Understatement of the year, Meta. Just imagine you have to verify one’s identity (wait on Experian Credit Agency to approve), create software look at tax records for subsidy eligibility, provide 20-80 Plan options depending on the state one lives in, combine all that information with a correlating application submission, all while working in concert with the insurance provider to complete any transaction!

        • October 18, 2013 at 7:36 pm

Exactly the way I was thinking about it this afternoon!! The levels of info and verification and validation required…….I can’t even wrap my brain around it.

So let’s cut these people some slack!!

          • October 18, 2013 at 7:48 pm

I have been trying to get premium quotes since Oct. 3, when Experian verified my account. The following week if I could log in it would just say “application in process” the week after that I couldn’t log in anymore. The people on the hotline are not getting any assists from the IT people, and are just getting yelled at 24/7. I spent a hour with a lady last weekend just having a nice conversation, telling her I understand they left her out to dry, and she was so appreciative. The problem is for the last 10 days around 10 p.m. EST they shut the site down for maintenance and in that process they erased the passwords of the accounts of early applications, due to privacy conformity. So my suggestion to anybody is create a new account and skip the “subsidy eligibility” info (much shorter process) and try to get the plans offered through that process. I got the furthest by doing that. Still haven’t been able to see what Plans are available, but am noticing improvements every day. My asshole A.G. is also suing the Federal Government to prevent anyone from receiving subsides, on top of RWNJ Gov. Mike Pence not expanding Medicaid(after passing laws to prevent union organization last year)……. because he is running for President in 2016. I have till Nov. 6, before I have to decide to keep my current coverage with AnthemBCBS…..so I just implore patience to everyone. In due time………

            • October 18, 2013 at 7:54 pm

WHOA. Can’t believe the hotline doesn’t have IT back-up. What’s the point of that? Wow, I hope it all works out for you, SOON.

              • October 18, 2013 at 8:48 pm

It is B.S. the I.T. folks leave the phone reps in the wind, Meta. One other option I suggest for people trying to sign up is have the Telephone Rep. fill out an application manually. It is a much more longer/tedious process, but they are happy to do it if you wish. By doing so, they submit the paper application to the proper channel, and you are supposed to be contacted within 10 days by either Healthcare.Gov rep or an Insurance Provider personally. At that point they will walk you through your coverage options, but it is a guaranteed way to have your application processed, and bypass any website hiccups.

HEALTHCARE MARKETPLACE (17 STATE BASED vs 34 FEDERAL)

      =======================================================

Early reports seem to indicate that individual states (like CT, CA, NY, KY) who decided to set up and run their health insurance exchanges have not experienced as many glitches as the federal marketplace. This makes sense because there are 17 state based exchanges and 34 run by the federal government either solely or in conjunction with states.

Needless to say, there are different reasons why some states decided not to implement their own exchanges. But we know for a fact that one of the main reasons is red states where Republican governors decided they wanted no parts of setting up their own marketplace because they were totally against the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion.

I found an interesting chart at Kaiser Family Foundation dated 5/28/13 that shows the breakdown of state vs federal exchanges. As I see it, two issues impacting the rollout are — The number of states the federal government is handling because states opted out is huge and the response from the American people for quality / affordable healthcare coverage has been overwhelming. Far beyond what was expected. The pent up demand was enormous. So running out of bandwidth because so many people want your product is a good thing. Additional bandwidth can be arranged and the glitches will be addressed at the state and federal level. Bottom line, the uninsured are finally going to get the healthcare coverage they need starting January 1, 2014.

“Power doesn’t have to show off. Power is confident, self assuring, self starting and self stopping, self warming and self justifying. When you have it you know it.”

Millions of lives saved because one man said enough is enough. Millions of lives saved because one man said healthcare should not be a privilege for the fortunate few but a right for everyone. Millions of lives saved because one man envisions a world not as it is, but a world as it should be. Millions of lives saved because one man refused to give up in the face of huge obstacles. Millions of lives saved because one man decided Americans should have the same level of health coverage that they provide for members of Congress.

    Thank you, President Barack Obama.

Obama’s two Virginia victories demonstrated that the Democrats’ coalition can carry the state in a high-participation presidential year. But Republicans swept the 2009 statewide races partly because turnout plummeted among young and minority voters, while whites and seniors soared as a share of the electorate.

This year, Democrats are employing targeting techniques from Obama’s campaign-data wizards to identify potential supporters. Yet McAuliffe’s advisers recognize that better mechanics alone won’t drive turnout and that his fate will pivot more on exciting intermittent Democratic-leaning voters than reassuring right-tilting whites. “It is difficult to create enthusiasm and engagement among both Democratic voters and Democratic activists if you don’t step up on these issues,” said Geoff Garin, McAuliffe’s pollster.

Democrats beyond the bluest states have often hedged on social issues to avoid alienating culturally conservative whites. But as the party relies less on those voters, other purple-state Democrats, such as Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, have placed the same wager as McAuliffe and aligned with the social priorities of their new coalition, even at the price of goading conservatives. That has solidified Democratic unity on previously divisive issues such as gay marriage and immigration. Yet this consensus is likely to last only if it produces swing-state victories, starting with McAuliffe’s race next month.

LOL, Tally! I waited till I had a week off from school and watched season’s 3-5.5 in binge fashion. Somehow watched the first 2 seasons before the national bandwagon, and missed 2 years for no explainable reason. It just kept getting better and better. Can’t decide which series I enjoyed more “The Wire” “West Wing” or “BB” You’re in for a treat regardless!

        • October 18, 2013 at 7:47 pm

The Wire is on my list.

        • October 18, 2013 at 7:51 pm

          I’ve turned into this:

        • October 18, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Right now this is my list:

          1. Game of Thrones
          2. West Wing & Battlestar Galactica (yes the NEW one!)
          3. ROME
          4. Firefly
          5. The Newsroom
          6. BB

          • October 18, 2013 at 7:57 pm

Tally, I’m sooooo relieved that I’m not the only one still trying to catch up!

Watched West Wing about three years after everyone else – I have nooooo words for how much I loved it.

Only finished catching up with The Wire this summer – majestic.

And I’m only in the middle of Breaking Bad

          • October 18, 2013 at 9:10 pm

Rome, was such a good series. I hate that cancelled it after 3 seasons. I don’t know if you have seen the “Shield” or “Sons of Anarchy” they were/are on FX channel. “Boston Legal” was another one of my favorites. If you are talking present time “The Good Wife” and “Scandal” are the best on Network television. As for cable USA Network has two really good shows “Suits” (3 Seasons) and “Graceland” 1 season……based on a true story about a FBI agent who went rouge, but lives with 2 other FBI agents, an ICE officer, and a DEA agent all under the same roof in Malibu. They all work cases in conjunction, but the newest FBI recruit was personally sent by the FBI director to investigate/take down the *rogue* FBI agent who is running a Heroin ring under their noses. Finally I can’t leave out “Homeland” and strangely enjoying a new STARZ series called “Devinci’s Demons” ………that’s not to big of a list is it”

            • October 18, 2013 at 9:54 pm

ROME only had two seasons, and like Firefly, the executives in charge had no idea of the hit they had – because the Nielson’s are a JOKE – until after they wrapped season two, thought they had a flop, cancelled it, tore down those gorgeous sets, and released all the actors from their contracts. Then Season 1 went on sale on DVD and broke records.

              OOOPS.

Same thing happened to Firefly – which is why Serenity happened. There’s been talk of a ROME movie…. in my dreams. Why am I not watching Grey’s??? Mystery.

Loved The Shield until the last episode. Same with LOST. I hate writers who fall out of love with their stories.

I hear Sons of Anarchy is Hamlet. Might be fun. Could never get in to Boston Legal. I tried. I LOVE the cast. Just couldn’t. I hear Scandal and The Good Wife are awesome.

              Recent favorites:
              - The Borgias – so damn good, and perfectly cast!
              - Strike Back – OMFG AWESOME. There’s a season one that no one knows about, that was only shown in the UK that is only available on that region’s DVD – I’ve got an all-region Bluray player so I’m lucky, then three seasons have been shown here. Awesome. You’ll be in after the first 10 min of the US season 1 pilot.
              - Parade’s End – if you’re a Benedick Cumberbatch fan, this is not to be missed.
              - John Adams – awesome
              - True Blood – I’m still in, but……. they kind of jumped the shark this last season and might end up on the Quit list.
              - MI-5 (Spooks) – awesome – all on Netflix – what 24 wished it were.

Things that were okay that I stuck with:
              - Entrouage
              - Flight of the Conchords

Things that sucked that I have no idea why I watched until the end:
              - The Tudors (historical & costumed trainwreck that I have no idea why I kept watching)
              - Camelot – time I’ll never get back

Things I stopped watching because I ran out of time, but want to eventually catch up on if they end up on Netflix:
              - Once Upon A Time
              - Revenge
              - Person of Interest

Things I quit watching because they started sucking the life out me and boring me stupid:
              - The Sopranos
              - 24
              - Treme (just too fucking depressing. Season 1 was awesome….. then I got tired of getting kicked in the gut every episode.)

              Currently on my DVR:

              - The last few eps of The White Queen – really like this.
              - Project Runway – haven’t watched in years, but the deaf guy sucked me in.
              - NOVA – because, well, it’s NOVA
              - Key & Peele
              - South Park
              - Daily Show
              - New Girl
              - Masterpiece Classic
              - Great Performances (The Hollow Crown!)
              - Catfish: The TV Show
              - Family Guy
              - Da Vinci’s Demons (LOVED the pilot! LOVE that all the episodes are named after Major Arcana Tarot cards! Just haven’t had time to sit down and power through the rest of the series.)
              - Strike Back (season 3)

NEW SHOWS THIS SEASON I LOVE!!!
              - The Blacklist – ZOMFG I am SO IN. Spader is rocking the fuck out of this show.
              - Sleepy Hollow – more fun and more well written than I expected, with a hot boy who played an annoying man in Parade’s End.

              On my LIST:
              - The Wire
              - American Horror Story
              - Homeland (Loved the pilot. Need the time.)

              • October 18, 2013 at 10:33 pm

Kevin McKidd(Lucius) from “Rome”, has been on Grey’s Anatomy for a while…..
Morena Baccarin from Stargate SG-1 is a main character on Homeland..
Melissa George from Strikeback( who I loved in “Alias”) is a new character on “The Good Wife” this year
Spader(Who was awesome in “Boston Legal” is great on the “Blacklist”
Jeremy Iron’s from “Borgias” is awesome as is the show
Paul Giamatti’s best performance ever was in “John Adams” along with the movie “American Splendor”
“True Blood” jumped shark last season, but next season is the finale
MI-5 was awesome (BBC always makes TV gold) I don’t really like “Luther” many do, but “Copper” is great spinoff of “Gangs of New York”
In the same boat as you with the “Tudors” but a great movie suggestion featuring Jonathan Rhys Meyers is “August Rush”
Watched “Revenge” for 3 Episodes because Emily Van Camp(so hot) was all grown up from “Brothers & Sisters”
If you like Timothy Olyphant/Ian McShane, another great series that ran on HBO “Deadwood” was incredible same fate as “Rome”
If you are into occasionally dark drama’s then “Dexter” was great….spinoff from “6 feet under”
Speaking of comedies “Key & Peele” is premo…….did you Peele was cast on SNL, but couldn’t get out of his “Mad TV” contract
Marie Louis Parker of “West Wing” is on one the best comedies in the last decade “Weeds” and the creator Jenji Cohen, has an awesome Netflix Show “Orange is the New Black” and another Netflix original if you liked “West Wing” is “House of Cards”
Amazon Prime has a great original series starting in a few months “Alpha House” (free pilot episode) http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-HD/dp/B00CDBTQCW ……..it is based of the true story of Dick Durbin, Chuck Shumer, and a few other Senators who actually all live in the same house in D.C. In the show the Senators are all GOP, but from the first episode it look hilarious!

………and I’m sure I left some others out but I think many on TOD may think we have no life if they read these posts :)

I’d add Orphan Black. I’m hooked. Tatiana Maslany is phenomenal.

Last episode of The White Queen is on Saturday. I loved it and I swear I never saw the modern water pipes and I would have noticed that. Sorry there weren’t dragons, but it was based on, like, history to which it was pretty damn faithful.

                  • October 18, 2013 at 11:18 pm

I have missed the last 3 episodes of “The White Queen” due to my unhealthy obsession with College Football. It also coincides w/ “Hell of Wheels” (Airs on AMC Saturday’s as well) with one my favorite hip-hop heads/actors Common.

do you watch it on starz? it is repeated frequently. think there’s a marathon all day Saturday but that would conflict with football.

                  • October 19, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Love The White Queen, and the fact they’re not fucking the history. The only 20th century thing I saw was a pipe hand rail during a scene when Queen Elizabeth was escaping in the rain at night with her children, and they were running down some outside stone stairs. But other than that… I haven’t had a problem.

I’ll cut them a break for at least shooting on location.

Thank you! I was so happy that the history is accurate. In fact, I now really understand the events and the people of the War of the Roses like I never have before.

Couldn’t believe some of the reviews – it didn’t have dragons like Game of Thrones. Seriously?! And ‘criticism’ that it was filmed in Belgium. Again – seriously?! Have they ever heard the term, spaghetti Western?

Anyway I love it. The acting is excellent, the characters well-drawn. Much better than the loose-with-facts stuff on Showtime, in my opinion.

And Richard isn’t a monster. As much as I love my Shakespeare, RIII has gotten the worst treatment ever, and his real story is so compelling, yet no one has a clue.

completely political during the Tudor dynasty. I was less impressed with the last episode, however. A lot felt like an afterthought. And American viewers need to be informed that Elizabeth of York was Henry VIII’s mother and Eliabeth I’s grandmother. but still enjoyable.

                • October 19, 2013 at 2:07 pm

EVERYONE has told me about Orange is the New Black – so it’s on my list – eventually.

Just LOVE that there’s so much excellent scripted TV on and that reality TV is dying.

Good afternoon, good evening, eclipse is total in 39 minutes. It is always, at least to me, as fascinating feeling of planetary power during an eclipse ~ as it the Earth is holding her breath. As if in a deep meditative inhalation, when the Silence is palpable, then the energy begins to flow again as opposition passes and the Stillness lifts. Well, as I said, at least to me! ;)

So Ezra Klein purposely chose a noted ANTI-Obamacare “health policy expert” to critique the ACA website – and wants us to think that his reporting of this person’s assessment is objective?!?!? Mr. Laszewski is fully endorsed by the McLaughlin group. That tells me all I need to know right there.

This “expert” happens to be Bob Laszewski, who maintains his own website and blog – the blog which since 2010 has almost singularly focused on President Obama’s Health Care Law. He claims to be non-partisan but if you read his blog, you will undoubtedly get the anti-Obama, anti-Dem, anti-Obamacare sentiment through his pieces. I reviewed some of Laszewski’s archived entries from the 2008 presidential campaign period – and not surprisingly, he LIKED Sarah Palin, took her quite seriously as a formidable candidate. He thought the “lipstick on a pig” outrage was a defining moment for the McCain campaign. He thought that Palin had serious ideas about health insurance and policy from her term as governor in Alaska.

This was his (gleeful) headline when Scott Brown won the MA special election:

” Stick a Fork in It! The Democratic Effort to Pass a Health Bill is Dead.”
    http://healthpolicyandmarket.blogspot.com/2010/01/stick-fork-in-it-democratic-effort-to.html

And when PBO was actually successful in passing ACA in March 2010, Laszewski responds by citing Peggy Noonan’s snarky, nasty WSJ column headlined ” “What a Disaster Looks Like–ObamaCare Will Have Been a Colossal Waste of Time If We Are Lucky.”
    http://healthpolicyandmarket.blogspot.com/2010/03/what-disaster-looks-like.html

I can give you tons of other examples as to what a Right Wing TOOL this jerk is, but you can access his blog and read for yourself. The bottom line is: Bob Laszewski has NEVER been a fan of PBO’s health care law, and anyone who cites him as an “objective” critic of the ACA website is revealing their own dishonest agenda.

You pegged Ezra, Hopefruit. It would have been easier if the Supreme Court hadn’t let the States choose to opt in or not.

Thanks for researching this HF. Ezra Klein is totally busted and dishonest. I use to like him a long time ago. All of his credibility is gone as far as I am concerned. Whatever he says now will be suspect.

Well done, hf!!! Thought your fine research deserved a bit of recognition!!

      Good Evening TODers.

Excellent HF2. Brilliant. Diligent. Thank you and Doc, Bobfr.

My sister just told me that Thom Hartmann was saying that the people having problems signing in are mostly from those states that didn’t set up their own exchanges. Since CNN is based in GA and their Medical reporter is having problems signing in….so she claims…..that makes sense after the Hartmann’s explanation. MN set theirs up but they had a tough 3 days and now all is Okay. I hope the bugs or glitches are fixed soon for these so called lawmakers from the GOP are looking for failure. HHS must and will prevail.

    Dear President Obama,

Congratulations Mr. President. Once again you win over white bigots and other evangelical Tea Party goofs. Everyone has underestimated you since Day 1. Liberals are full of advice and conservatives… well, enough said.

The economy came back, the deficit is lower than ever, America is producing more energy than we’re importing, gay men and women have been given new dignity and rights, you ended the wars as you said you would, and the Republicans are running for cover.

You are a smart, decent, compassionate levelheaded man. Your craven enemies have been proved to be hysterical liars. You will go down in history as great and every child with health care will bless your name forever.

You have been doing God’s work. Thank you.

    With respect and love,

    Frank Schaeffer

I like these letter to the President that don’t demand anything from him, or try and instruct him to do anything, like he’s a child or isn’t surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the country. These kind of letters just thank him and give him credit.

So sad for his family. I saw the guy on TV just 2 weeks or so ago. Did he have a stroke or was it some other sudden illness?

Yes, that’s what they’re gearing up for – but we will be READY for their bullshit, and push back accordingly.

OK, Chips. I’ve swept and dusted and prepared the fluffy new bed for the arrival of Danny O in TODville.

There are drinks and snax on a table in the corner so we can celebrate the long-awaited arrival tonight!

    THREE CHEERS FOR DANNY O!!!!

Ed was talking about Fox news today, and I saw that lying “B” Elisabeth Hasslebeck running her mouth. I know she is so happy to be on Fox now. On the View she couldn’t spread her right wing lies without some push back. Now she can sit up there and do what she does best which is LIE. By the way I can’t stand that husband of hers either, when he is talking about football I do not listen. He wasn’t a good football player either.
