…..Lastly, there is an argument that Obamacare disproportionately helps older people because healthy young people who pay slightly higher premiums subsidize them. Irrespective of the fact that this is how health insurance has always worked, boycotting a system because a segment of the population other than yourself will also be better off under a policy is in no way a credible reason to invalidate it. But even more importantly, you won’t be young and healthy forever. Health circumstances can change at a moment’s notice, and your age circumstance definitely will. You may or may not get sicker. But you will definitely get older. Do not be so myopic to think otherwise.

Thanks for all the info you bring here, LP, so we don’t have to go lookin’ for it! Really appreciate it.

Well, like the rest of us, both. Love ‘em all.

Maybe it’s an odd word to use, but I really ENJOY reading these health stories. Above and beyond the griping of the nay-sayers people are reaching out for what they need. Utal, thanks for the regular reminders that there are real people out there reaching out AND getting real answers to their various health concerns!
Hello there, Miss D! How’s senior Mr. D doing these days?
He’s doing okay. Thanks for asking. About to go in 2nd cataract removal tomorrow.
Then we won’t be able to keep the old man from hanging out all night playing poker.
Good! Good! Maybe he’ll teach me to play poker after.
Oh good lord, please no!
You had me really chuckling with this response.
Perhaps the fact that Mom refers to it as “The Damn Poker” might give you an idea of what his new obsession has wrought.
Do *you* play?
Keeping him in my thoughts and hope all goes well tomorrow, Dudette!
I haven’t been able to read all the threads – can you catch me up on what’s up with Dudette?
My Dad’s going in for cataract surgery maryl1. Had the other eye fixed a couple of months ago and other stuff a couple of weeks ago. He’s itching to get past this one, so he can get back to the poker tables.
Well he will be in my prayers for a successful operation and a swift recovery, Dudette.
“Utal, thanks for the regular reminders that there are real people out there reaching out AND getting real answers to their various health concerns!”
Yes, VC, that’s what it is all about and that is what our President has always focused, no matter how many, even within his own Cabinet, tried to dissuade him from pursuing.
The amount of pain, worry, and death President Obama has already alleviated because of his stalwart commitment to pass the Affordable Care Act is beyond calculation, already. Just imagine what it will be in 2, 5, 20 or more years from now.
Yes We Can
#TrustBarack, indeed. We got ourselves a real winner – a man of his word! It cannot be said enough that, in so many, many ways, President Obama is a great model for our young people (our world really) to have!
“President Obama is a great model for our young people (our world really) to have!”

Thanks for the kind words, VC.
The United Nations Climate-Change Conspiracy Theory—the idea that human-caused global warming is a false construct invented by the U.N. to justify government control of economies and people’s daily lives—is alive and well in the United States. The flames of the theory were freshly fanned last month after the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a landmark report concluding with 95 percent scientific certainty that burning fossil fuels are warming the planet, with dangerous consequences.
The report “proves that the U.N. is more interested in advancing a political agenda than scientific integrity,” said Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., author of the book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future. Inhofe is far from alone. Around the country, Republican lawmakers, bloggers, and even some local TV weathercasters panned the report as further evidence of the U.N.’s plans to use allegedly false climate data to justify a global takeover.
So what do the U.N.’s top officials make of this?
Debunking the @UN #ClimateChange Conspiracy nationaljournal.com/energy/debunki… A top official dismisses conservative fears that false data is being used— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) October 22, 2013
LP, UN conspiracy theories are rampant among local TPs. They are doing everything they can to scare small communities into thinking that the UN is going to control their lives and take away their freedom. A lot of the insane won primary elections and we are working hard to cut them off this November. Our candidates are finding that once the paranoia takes root, it’s very difficult for low information voters to let go of it. This is how the TP infiltrates the political system at the lowest level and then worms it’s way up the ladder. Stopping them before they grow is vitally important.
“… A lot of the insane won primary elections…” You know, I think it’s really good of the Republicans to find jobs for the mentally ill. A lot of people won’t, you know!
(And you know I’m not making fun of truly mentally ill people, right? That phrase just struck me as funny.)

Of course, global, the media is not deluded; it’s purposeful in distracting attention from GOP failures and fomenting a loss of confidence in the president and his party. They won’t succeed, but they’ll keep throwing all the brickbats they can find.

Oh my, Pf, ALEC has totally lost it. Just the kind of issues that are bound to get Dems stirred up and out to the polls. Why don’t they throw in a little more focus on denying women access to birth control pills and pushing for Social Security and Medicare cuts so they can have a perfect trifecta of voter anger. Then stir in a little anti-immigration frenzy and they have a sure fire winner.
” Why don’t they throw in a little more focus on denying women access to birth control pills ….”
They are definitely in self-destruction mode or, as Jim Wright terms it – “conservikaze” mode!!!

Thank you so much for posting this. So much great information.
I have awesome statistical data from the beautiful state of Washington:
35,000 have enrolled in just three weeks.
I have more good news: 56,000 additional residents have completed applications, and the only thing missing is their first premium payment, which isn’t due until December 23rd.
And still more happy news: 14,000 additional applicants have completed their Medicaid applications, except for the final step (which is awesome for the hospitals, who no longer have to rely on as many charitable donations and they’ll have less bad debt on their books).
That is over 100,000. I am doing the Happy Dance!
fyi: Kentucky has enrolled 16,000 and 45,000 have started applications.
I hear Oregon is doing well, too, despite not having a working website.
And we all know California is doing grrrreat!
Thanks Sue and thanks for updating us on the GREAT ObamaCare news.
Great news! Thanks for sharing, Sue in Seattle! In my humble opinion, most people in Washington, Oregon, and California are very sensible, compassionate, progressive and pragmatic.
