3:45 EDT: President Obama Speaks on the Next Generation of Middle Class American Workers and Entrepreneurs, Brooklyn
Congrats GGail on #1
And you WERE #2 the last thread, as you had claimed!
Oh man, I better buy a lotto ticket today – huh?
I stepped out and bought one after being first on last thread…
Did you win….anything Alycee?
You know, if either/both of you win the lottery, then morally you should really share it with your friends here. Just sayin’.
If I win, I’m gonna take the first thing smoking out to the East Coast to visit POTUS & FLOTUS. I’ll leave the rest to you all in my “Will”
Again Hopefruit, I suspect the use of performance-enhancing drugs
GGail, a first *and* a second in the one day? #Suspicious
“I did not have…” WAIT that’s not the correct response
….. performance-enhancing relations with TOD???
ROFLMAO! You read my mind – hahahaha!!!!!
Ha, a confession!!!!
No Chuckie, I mean Chips, that was just an observation that you and I were on the same wave-length “joke wise”!
As Jodi Kantor would say, Hmm….
Ok, peeps, focus….!
Where’s the President to interrupt when you need him?

If he runs he will beat Rick Scott.
I hope he runs too hf. If he does, he’ll have a lot of big supporters
//Last night in a speech at the Center for American Progress, Hillary Clinton said this:
“We are careening from crisis to crisis instead of having a plan, bringing people to that plan, focusing on common-sense solutions and being relentless in driving toward them.”
// With President Obama and Congressional Democrats putting themselves on the front lines of battling the Republican neo-confederates, this statement is WAY to immersed in false equivalence to have much bearing on current reality. So Hillary, I’m watching. If you think you can run in 2016 by distancing yourself from President Obama and the coalition he built, you are in for a very rude awakening. //
Yes, a VERY rude awakening. Same one she and Bill got in ’08. “We” are watching.
HF, I want Hillary’s awakening to come in the primary so we have a candidate we can all support wholeheartedly in t e General. She needs to understand that we’re watching and listening. There is no one with a clearer vision and PLAN than PBO and all the “crisis” lurching is coming 100 percent from the GOP.
Implementation of ACA, push for immigration reform = focusing on common-sense solutions.
It’s obvious that Hillary is running. She’ll wait till the last minute to make it official, so other candidates won’t be able to prepare. But I agree with others. She’ll have to find a way to promote herself WITHOut using language that looks like she criticizes the president.
Another note: I’m concerned that a Hillary candidacy could unite the republicans. They are very divided right now, but if there is one thing that unites them, it’s the hatred towards the Clintons.
Hillary has a short memory. The RW hates the Clintons almost as much as they hate PBO, and they have learned all too well how to direct and stoke that hate.
If she thinks she’s immune, she’s crazy. If she thinks they’re her friends, then her judgment makes her unfit for the Presidency.
Remember what the Clintons taught us in 2008 – they default to an ugly, petty, self-absorbed place.
Just like the Clinton administration relentlessly implemented health care reform??

Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), a deputy majority whip and close ally of Speaker John Boehner, told Bloomberg’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt” he wants the newly formed budget conference committee — of which he is a member — to reach a deal that includes entitlement changes and some added revenue via curbing tax loopholes (but not by raising rates).
“Well, I think that’s possible,” Cole said in an interview set to air Friday night. “I think both sides would like to deal with the sequester. And we’re willing to put more revenue on the table to do that, and we would like to do it with entitlement savings.”
I am a doubting Thomasana when it comes to Today’s TGBOPers.
I’ve got ‘entitlement change’ for Tom Cole: Raise the cap on SS/Medicare. Lower the Medicare age to 55.
How’s THAT for ‘entitlement reform’.

Boehner, as he was praying, thought “there must be a reason” he was in his position, according to sources close to the speaker.
Boehner reportedly shared the story with a small group of lawmakers, who urged him to be more vocal about it, but Boehner quickly dismissed the idea.
“I’m a Catholic — not a Baptist!” Boehner reportedly said.
The moment of prayer was a turning point and Boehner began to rally his caucus behind him, according to National Review’s Jonathan Strong.
John Boehner is a bat poop leaderless incompetent.
So, even in his “deeply devotional” state, which he managed to get publicized, he’s still putting down other religions? #DrunkAss
Killing Americans and causing financial ruin due to lack of health care is a God-given calling to Boner?
How nice, students at P-Tech are all spiffly dressed up in honor of PBO’s visit. Bright young folks.
Public apology to Bobfr
Yo, dude, to borrow from your favorite intro, remember when I was teasing you about whether or not you “dream in hashtags”? Well, this morning I was having a dream right before I woke up, and in the dream someone was communicating with me in a tweet, and as I woke up, I was reading the tweet to myself in my mind. And then I smiled thinking how I, too, apparently am now dreaming in hashtags.
So, bottom line, I forgive you.

I didn’t realize that PBO had lived in Brooklyn?!?!? Nice.
Ah…that’s right. Thanks for the link! I believe he also lived in Harlem NY at one point too? I may be mistaken.
Wasn’t it when he went to college, before transferring to Harvard.
Yes, he went to Columbia U.
Yes it was. For some reason I’m thinking it was Harlem all along.
Listen to that roar!!! These young folks will carry the Dem brand for all of their voting years. It is said that voters pretty much decide their voting inclinations at a very early age. First time voters, who voted for PBO in ’08 will be about 26 years old in 2016 and they know what the Dem organization has done for them and their families.
Many of these high school youngsters, who are seniors in high school today, were in grade school in ’08 and remember the excitement around PBO’s election. They will likely vote Dem as well.
That’s why the ‘pubs are in despair/distress/desperation mode. They know they’ve lost generations of voters.
“They know they’ve lost generations of voters.” So true, cookemom.

Russell Brand – impassioned and dead wrong
Dudette – Martin Bashir played this after a segment on his show yesterday (obviously after calling out Republicans) – only the first (best) part applied to his discussion, but isn’t it great?
I agree. He doesn’t Vote but he has ideas of what he wants changed? Hmm?
Utopia? Revolution? Then he should lead it and start building a grassroot for THIS Revolution.
that was an interesting interview but I found myself shouting at Brand – not vote? That’s exactly the kind of thing that got us into trouble in 2010. Another thoughtful message from my in-box.
I’m sure this has gone around before, but, it is worth a repeat!
What would you do?….you make the choice. Don’t look for a punch line, there isn’t one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?
At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its
Dedicated staff, he offered a question:
‘When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.
Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.
Where is the natural order of things in my son?’
The audience was stilled by the query.
The father continued. ‘I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.’
Then he told the following story:
Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, ‘Do you think they’ll let me play?’ I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.
I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, ‘We’re losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning..’
Shay struggled over to the team’s bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt.. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.
In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay’s team scored again.
Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.
At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?
Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn’t even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.
However, as Shay stepped up to the
Plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay’s life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.
The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.
The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.
As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.
The game would now be over.
The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.
Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman’s head, out of reach of all team mates.
Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, ‘Shay, run to first!
Run to first!’
Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.
He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.
Everyone yelled, ‘Run to second, run to second!’
Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.
By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball . The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.
He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher’s intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman’s head.
Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.
All were screaming, ‘Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay’
Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, ‘Run to third!
Shay, run to third!’
As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, ‘Shay, run home! Run home!’
Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team
‘That day’, said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, ‘the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world’.
Shay didn’t make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!
AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:
We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate.
The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.
If you’re thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you’re probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren’t the ‘appropriate’ ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference.
We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the ‘natural order of things.’
So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:
Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?
A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it’s least fortunate amongst them.
You now have two choices:
May your day, be a Shay Day.
MAY GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHO DECIDES TO PASS THIS ON IN MEMORY OF SHAY…………..
Thanks for posting that, YA. The glory of the “natural order of things” is sometimes amazing, if we open our hearts. And minds. And eyes.
That’s a lot to open for some folks.
Ah, and there’s the rub.
Thank you yardarm. We need these reminders every so often.
Beautiful story, Yardarm. Thanks for posting.
