@petesouza: Pres Obama at Junior’s Cheesecake in Brooklyn yesterday
Helloooooooo Obama Grandmama, VC and Allison!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi There OG!
Hey Obama Grandmama – are you enjoying your perch?
You again! Can’t keep a sistah down or out, can we?
Especially a sistah who ignores her ‘chores’ to hang out online. (What doesn’t get done today, will get done ….when I feel like it.’
I guess we are all three ready for a chat!
Tho what we’ll talk about is anybody’s guess.
A Triumphant Trio! Way to go Ladies!
Just came on starting at the top instead of trying to catch up!
Afternoon, OG! Sometimes this is an excellent strategy.
Well look at that – a 3 way tie!! Congrats to all and to OG for making it through the door 1st. Kind of you to hold it open for her, VC
Happy Birthday, df!!!
Yea. Right, Bobfr. You know me well.
Thank you kindly, Bob!
The President’s weekly address is one of the best he’s done. Hope all of you spread it far and wide!!
Yes #PBO, it's time for #KOCH minions (#GOP #Emotarians) to stop rooting for #ACA to fail. youtube.com/watch?v=3o1N3k… #USANotKochville cc @OFA— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) October 26, 2013
Yes We Can
Not knowing the previous conversations puts me at a loss. Just skyped with my daughter who is living in Germany. So glad I can see her and talk to her regularly.
Technology really has made the world smaller.
Make the Coup Happen
And, guess what? The GOP is coming to the end of the line with being able to spin the sequester as a workable solution to our budget problems. The military’s service chiefs have already testified before Congress, and no one can deny that next year’s scheduled sequester cuts are too quick and too steep to be politically viable. I’m all for massive cuts in defense, but only as part of a coherent and well-planned strategy that is consistent with the strategic guidance laid out by the administration. And it’s not just defense; it’s everything. No Republican House majority can pass a transportation bill or a farm bill. If the farm bill doesn’t get done, we could be looking a $12 gallons of milk next year.
So, the reality is, that the House Republican majority doesn’t really exist. It’s a mirage. They can’t keep going the way they have been going. Their cohesiveness will not hold because it cannot hold. There are things that absolutely have to be done that the House majority in incapable of doing.
And those things will get done. All I ask is that the House moderates and the House appropriators come to their senses sooner rather than later and realize that, unless and until one of their own rank-and-file steps up to fill the void, the only viable leader in the House is Nancy Pelosi.
Tom Cole said yesterday that REVENUE is on the table. I don’t trust them. But Time will tell as to how serious these bat poops are….the TBGOPers…..
If he’s GOP, he’s lying.
Cole knows the GOP has to make a deal and the only thing that will pass the Senate and get PBO’s signature has to be Dem friendly. Yesterday was an opening salvo. The sequester is bad but the dirty little secret is it has the potential to wreck havoc on red states via those Defense cuts. I expect a lot of people are going to move off the ideological log to get a deal.
That was the rationale for the sequester. President Obama said that the cuts were so harsh it would force people to make a deal. It looks as if it’s going to come true but only in the second year. The first year of sequester cuts wasn’t harsh enough for them apparently.
Revenue in exchange for entitlements. I keep seeing this tpm headline that does NOT tell the story and Cole getting credit as if gop was getting reasonable. Cole said closing of loopholes, no tax rate increases and all in exchange for ‘entitlement changes ‘. This is b.s. and yet the left is perfectly happy to give him credit as if he said he was ready to raise taxes to 50% on the rich. Lets not spread this crap at tod
Well said, 57. The amount of covering up for Republicans is truly sickening. The media is desperate to raise Republican poll numbers; they are very, very uncomfortable when the Democrats are on the rise. The order has gone out to bring the R’s up and the D’s down and they are slavishly dedicating themselves to that task.
What infuriates me is that even WE fall into it sometimes, and this is a perfect example. TPM had a misleading headline and within hours it became truth, even here at TOD.
Let’s be clear: Cole wants to cut SS and Medicare, and he’s willing to close a few (I assume meaningless) loopholes to do it. He has ruled out tax increases, increases on the caps. Let’s also be aware that from the minute GOP backed away from (officially) destroying ACA, they began lumping it in with ‘entitlements’.
I HATE when we get played. We have to be vigilant and we have to suck the air out of any and all of their nefarious efforts. I posted the truth of Cole’s proposals no less than three times in the last two days, and it prevails.
Congratulations to the three winners!!!
Good West Coast morning to Chipsticks & TOD family.
Glad to see that DF is enjoying her birthday today
Happy Saturday, West Coaster!
The west coast weather is PURRRRFECT for DF’s birthday
‘west coast weather is PURRRRFECT’
Bragger! We folks are *ahem* enjoying a refreshingly cool and sunny (without need for suntan oil) Saturday.
Don’t hate vc, you can move to sunny west coast anytime
Absolutely no hate, my dear. I was merely trying to drop a hint that ‘refreshingly cool’ is actually good too better for you.
Refreshingly cool huh? I heard you say a couple of days ago that you had on a top coat. That sounds more like COLD to me.
Picky! Picky! That was only because I had ONLY worn a sleeveless/t-shirt-like top out that day. (Fortunately I always keep a sweater thingy was on the back seat of the car.)
Don’t you know a fresh, cool breeze does wonders for the complexion – while too much sun can accelerate the aging process?
The Birth of Crisis Journalism™ – A Rant!
By Extreme Liberal
Prior to the “glitch” story, the media was clinging to the idiotic idea that President Obama should negotiate with Republicans who were holding a gun to the head of our economy, demanding the defunding of a law that took 18 months to pass through the legislative process, was signed by the President and upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States in exchange for the Congress doing their jobs. The media acted like complete morons repeating the Republican talking point of “he won’t even sit down with us and talk”, as if that is what you do when one party completely circumvents the legislative process and acts like a 4-year-old kicking and screaming on the floor.
Going back a little further, the media was freaking out about Syria and the “red line”, once again repeating the Republican talking points verbatim, as if Frank Luntz was behind them pulling their fucking puppet strings and lip syncing his focus group tested phrases. President Obama didn’t invent our position on Syria’s chemical weapons. The treaty that we are enforcing was signed by President Nixon in 1972 and can be found here. But the media wanted to pin it all on President Obama because the brain-dead GOP plucked the “red line” phrase out of a speech and proceeded to bastardize the context and history of the international treaty against the use of chemical weapons.

Rachel Maddow explains why Janet Yellen may be the most qualified Fed chair nominee in history, so of course Rand Paul plans to block her confirmation.
Things move along so quickly here at TOD, but anniebella mentioned at the end of the last thread an article where Michelle Obama still has POTUS’s back. Nena provided a link; when I looked for the article came across this picture of FLOTUS, so tweeted out the article (photo from another article):

On another note I wonder if you and Liberal Librarian are Treme fans. I find the history and politics to be accurate but it is the music that really sets it apart from any other show. I’d be interested to hear your opinion about this show if you have been watching it.
I’m sad to say that I’ve never watched Treme. I think that’s the next DVD set I’ll get once I get through Downtown Abbey.
Our latest tech update is now live. Today's post, more about the Data Services Hub. The good news? It's working well: 1.usa.gov/1an4Met— Kathleen Sebelius (@Sebelius) October 26, 2013
These stats are remarkable – and make it clear that the numbers reflect “households” not just individuals, a crucial distinction in the actual number of persons who will be insured. Do notice the response times, as well!!
“How Many People Has It Helped?
As of yesterday, nearly 700,000 Americans had completed an application through the Marketplaces – more than half of them through the federal Marketplace. This does not count applications directly to Medicaid and CHIP agencies that also can use the Hub.
A few more stats of note:
State-based Marketplaces and the Federal Marketplace are getting real time and accurate eligibility determinations from the Data Services Hub in less than 1.2 seconds.
The Social Security Administration has reported 4.2 million transactions involving individuals or households who have elected to establish an account. The current overall verification rate for Social Security numbers is 96%. With respect to those we’re unable to verify, consumers are notified online with instructions for resolving their verification issues. The highest numbers of transactions continues to involve individuals and households in the following states: Pennsylvania (323,000), New York (310,000), California (290,000), West Virginia (240,000), and Washington (135,000).
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has received and responded to more than 1.3 million requests for historical household income and family size tax data from the hub. The number of requests received does not reflect the number of people about whom the requests were made (i.e., a single request can involve everyone in a household). Thus, the number of individuals about whom the requests were made could be higher than 1.3 million. The IRS has provided data responses electronically via the hub in “near-real” time (average actual response time is 0.37 seconds).
The IRS also offers an advance premium tax credit computation service, which is optional for state Marketplaces. If a Marketplace chooses to use the IRS service, it sends a few data points, without identifying the applicant, and the IRS provides a math result in response. More than 330,000 requests have been received for the computation service with an average actual response time of 0.21 seconds. “
Thanks Jovie & Bob, this is indeed good news! Can’t wait for the reports next month.
I believe the small business exchanges go online Nov. 1. Milllions will get insurance then
great content – now we need to spread the word
Another West Coaster checking in, late, we were doing our joint project of putting the beef stew together, in the slow cooker, hard part is now waiting for it to be ready. They are so sanctimonious about the NSA and their “Spying” capabilities, right? So Why do they want to know? What business is it of theirs, other than to harass her and make her life another part of their wicked twisted hating games?
So very true Dudette
Reuters) – The United States may have bugged Angela Merkel’s phone for more than 10 years, according to a news report on Saturday that also said President Barack Obama told the German leader he would have stopped it happening had he known about it.
Germany’s outrage over reports of bugging of Merkel’s phone by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) prompted it to summon the U.S. ambassador this week for the first time in living memory, an unprecedented post-war diplomatic rift.
I’m beginning to entertain the thought that the NSA has been out of control for years. That they lie, at least by omission, to the president of the United States. And to Congress.
How, really, can elected officials know what’s really going on at the NSA ? Or at the CIA for that matter. There are entrenched cultures of secrecy over there.
The more I think of it, the more I wished Snowden had sent directly all those leaks to the President himself, and to some responsible people in Congress. And wait to see if there would be some action.
There is no way I’m going to believe that President Obama was aware of the abuses and didn’t do anything. I bet he’s getting more and more concerned himself that he isn’t able to control the intelligence agencies.
What makes me SO furious is that President Obama is paying the price, AGAIN, for the mess created by others.
The NSA is NOT the problem here. And if you think that the likes of Snowden et al are truly concerned about the NSA or spying, I have a bridge to sell you.
Agreed, Hopefruit, this is all BS, no one has seen any documentation, it’s all stories reported without evidence.
Appalling that MSM don’t mention that the “leaks” are from 2006.
Articles tweeted by MSM do mention 2006, but on CBS radio news, not a peep.
Airwave MSM supposedly bend over backwards to make sure we know “both sides do it,” but fail to mention that these Snowdenwald documents were written BEFORE Barack Obama was a US Senator.
The worst MSM since the yellow journalism of 100 years ago.
pretty clear Snowden leaks are less about accountability and more about trying to destroy US's ability to do intelligence at this point— Fleet Admiral Josh (@fleetadmiralj) October 26, 2013
They mentioned it in the 10 paragraph article I read, Arapaho…in the 9th paragraph. Most people read the headline and a few lines, maybe.
I think it’s unconscionable for the radio to NOT MENTION 2006 once in their reporting.
Lots of people only get their news via radio in Los Angeles car-centric world.
Assigning blame to this Administration for 2006 documents is beyond the pale, and certainly not informative.
The entire story about the NSA is beyond the pale. Afterall, NSA surveillance was “Breaking News” in 2003 and became an all-out obsession in 2005. One has no where to go for a complete and competent story anymore.
Most of these reports are based on word of mouth since no one has seen any documentation. She became chancellor in 2005, why would her phone be bugged for 10 years?
oh thanks for picking up on that blatant discrepancy on the time frame – if u don’t mind, someone needs to let Reuters know this doesn’t add up

Assad’s War of Starvation
The Syrian regime is blocking delivery of vital food, medical, and humanitarian aid. And with winter coming, thousands of lives hang in the balance.
BY JOHN F. KERRY | OCTOBER 25, 2013
Just days ago in London, I listened with sadness and shock as Ahmad Jarba and leaders of the moderate Syrian opposition described how ordinary Syrians with no links to the civil war are forced to eat stray dogs and cats to survive a campaign of deprivation waged by the Assad regime.
The world already knows that Bashar al-Assad has used chemical weapons, indiscriminate bombing, arbitrary detentions, rape, and torture against his own citizens. What is far less well known, and equally intolerable, is the systematic denial of medical assistance, food supplies, and other humanitarian aid to huge portions of the population. This denial of the most basic human rights must end before the war’s death toll — now surpassing 100,000 — reaches even more catastrophic levels.
Dang! The Republicans are everywhere! That’s the same thing they’re doing here…trying to cut food stamps and block medical care.
greed shown by many conservative people in power seems to be the trend here
check out the graph of americans’ life expectancy since 1880. nearly continuous increase, but a notable leap after medicare and medicaid instituted in 1965. same thing will happen with obamacare, and long after any 3-week glitches are forgotten, our great grandchildren will see the graph showing the obamacare leap and remember this president.
