I see Iowa’s largest insurer, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is running ads making fun of healthcare dot gov and urging consumers to sign up for insurance directly from them, without mentioning they would not be eligible for subsidies etc. connected to ACA. Ia insurance regulator said this deceit is fine and dandy.

I never watched anything concerning GW Bush. Press Conference or anything. And I never keep up with anything First Lady was doing, except our FLOTUS.

      In 1872

      Today is 2013.

141 years later, Women in a more advance modern Century are allowing Men to pass laws telling Grown women what to do with our bodies?

      1872 was the 19th Century.
      2013 is the 21st Century.

      There is a HUGE gap.

Today there are more Single women alive than married women. Women Vote in larger numbers than men. There is a HUGE Gap. We are more educated. More of Us are heads of a household. There is a HUGE Gap.

CNN and AJAM aired more coverage of the Philippines Typhoon than MSNBC or Fox (the skew at Fox is laughable).

As a reminder, Stephen Colbert is probably the canniest media personality when it comes to social media; his hashtags can be hysterical (still remember his “NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement” or something like that about a GOP Senator (can’t remember who) who spewed nonsense about Planned Parenthood and abortion on the Senate floor.

By Monday night, Colbert had collected this amount for Typhoon relief:

After announcing on air and on Twitter how to donate:

To be fair, I did see that China is sending one of their world-class hospital ships to the Philippines.

I’m so disappointed in Senator Reid and the Democrats concerning this filibuster. Changing the subject , I got a letter from Senator Hagan of North Carolina asking for a donation. I email her back and told her that I would not donate a cent to any Democrat who does not fully support the Affordable Care Act. I will not support anyone who want to derail or damage the ACA.

This is highly disturbing, this police cover-up and inaction involving a rape accusation against the Florida State U. QB. I have been aware of this for some time—-I have fam in Fl. who are big FSU football fans, 2 nephews who are graduates. FSU is undefeated this season, the QB, Jameis Winston a Heisman prospect. But for police to warn the victim that she better reconsider these accusations because Tallahassee is a big football town and her life will be made miserable. And when she assumed an investigation and DNA tests etc. were being conducted and awaiting results, she finds out they never conducted any kind of investigation because——–football. This case is almost a year old and has only recently come to light. Then leaks from the police detective saying she was drunk so—-okay then? Victim said her blood tests revealed she was not. This kind of junk happens too often in this country. Disgusting to the max.

Unreal. Lawrence is now saying that the Clintons will be expecting President Obama to “deliver his coalition” to her in 2016, because they worked for him in ’08 or she worked for him as SOS or whenever. Ludicrous.

Per his late-night press conference: Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) is sorry, FYI. He’s taking a leave of absence and donating his salary during that time to charity. He is looking for redemption, and he is asking for prayers for his family. He is not resigning from Congress.

As a liberal, I say give him a chance. And then watch to see if he gives others a chance in the future.

      November 20, 2013 at 10:43 pm

You have much more Christian goodness than I could ever have JoB. I strongly doubt his political viewpoint will change – and wonder if the “treatment” will work.

      • 79 jacquelineoboomer
        November 20, 2013 at 11:02 pm

I’m not sure about that goodness part, but since he’s taking himself out of the limelight for a bit – and hopefully getting treatment – I say give him a shot. It’s a disease, after all. (Thank God I never got into drugs when I was young – I’d probably be the biggest addict!)

As far as changing his political ways in the future, probably not. So, then – leaving goodness way behind – we can go in for the (verbal) kill. (IMHO.)

          November 20, 2013 at 11:15 pm

I have been reading too much about the law – and how different it is for the rich and the poor (my world as well as yours) – those who get the opportunities seem to just keep on taking from those who are just managing to survive.

You do have the goodness :) – I will hold my judgement – but still believe he should resign from congress – and his party should demand that resignation.

          • 81 jacquelineoboomer
            November 20, 2013 at 11:21 pm

Oh, don’t worry, my first wish would have been that he had resigned from Congress immediately and given somebody else the job – preferably, a nice boring Democrat! :)

    • November 20, 2013 at 10:44 pm

Ms. Jackie, Bless your compassionate heart. I watched the presser too. Boo-hoo-hoo. I don’t feel sorry for him.

  36. November 20, 2013 at 10:37 pm

Why is it when Trey Radel gets caught with cocaine, he has a disease…anyone else is a drug addict and where is his mandatory sentence?

    • 84 anniebella
      November 20, 2013 at 10:42 pm

If it was my black son he would be in prison. Double standard.

    • 86 dotster3
      November 20, 2013 at 11:28 pm

D.C. law—-1st time offense—–probation. If he would have been caught in Fl.—–mandatory jail sentence.

    • 88 jacquelineoboomer
      November 20, 2013 at 11:32 pm

Racially and socioeconomically biased laws and punishments. Same answer for most of our ills.

We first should get rid of the current drug laws and mandatory sentences, which is starting to happen through some of the changing marijuana laws (but too slowly). If only we could keep people like AG Holder around forever, we’d continue moving in the right direction.

Prohibition didn’t work and the so-called war on drugs hasn’t worked – it just separated the rich or middle-class whites from everybody else, same as always. The latter “war” has just led lawmakers to pick and choose (with the unrepresented poor and people of color targeted and paying the price, as usual) who has the addiction and who gets the tough sentencing. I don’t blame anybody for their frustration. It’s all dead wrong and deadly.

  37. November 20, 2013 at 10:39 pm

The NYT tone is really bothering me; I guess I noticed it before, but they are so negative about this administration.

Fortunately, @LRozen sets them straight about this. (BTW, it’s a fact she never sleeps; she’s in Geneva now; it’s 4:40 am there now, and she hasn’t taken a break from posting today — she’s just amazing.)

I believe the “clinton coalition” was mostly called the “PUMA” crowd, as you recall.

    • November 20, 2013 at 11:05 pm

Jackie…I find it hard to watch the cable political shows anymore….they drain my positive force…I know that we need to push back….but it can be exhausting to do so..

but what can offset that is the tell the truth about PBO …to neighbors…family and friends…and to use social media to reach others….as that chart on John Stuart’s website illustrates….people of color because of their life experience…see quite clearly what is happening…I wish that insight could be transmitted to the other members of our country…

      • 94 jacquelineoboomer
        November 20, 2013 at 11:16 pm

Well said. There are many, many good people in this country who “get it.” And lots who don’t and never will. You are so right – all of us just have to keep talking up the truth about PBO, no matter how frustrating it is, because there’s an even larger group than the naysayers who just are NOT paying attention. That’s the only way to keep that “positive force” you cherish and I cherish!

Fingers crossed because I think there will be LOTS more women voters in 2014 (after the dastardly tricks of Republican politicians have been exposed, and more so every day) to help give our wonderful President the support he needs in Congress! I hope we’re all crying tears of joy on election night 2014. Hang in there!

Only Democrats drum their people out of office for the least little infractions. The Republicans keep their whoremongers, drug addicts, ex-cons, white supremacists and everything else.

        November 20, 2013 at 11:03 pm

Totally agree. Dems will throw you under the bus very quickly. Some are doing this very thing to PBO and the ACA right now. I have a feeling that they are going to regret that vote with Upton. The republicans are going to use it against them.

      • 99 No Child Left Behind
        November 20, 2013 at 11:10 pm

        FayPax,

So true. Remember how quickly Dems dumped the guy from NY who was sending naked pictures of himself through Craig List? What about the light speed with which Anthony Weiner was shown the cold door? Not that Weiner didn’t bring his own demise… But Dems are too much in a hurry to drop their own whenever they find themselves on the wrong side of the law, or the right etiquette for that matter.

Now some of them are doing the same thing vis-à-vis the ACA. By some, I mean the 39 who have voted alongside the GOP to bring some killer fixes to the ACA and thus lay it on a death bed as the right wing nuts have been dreaming since the passing of the law.

        Dems sometimes infuriate me.

Forgot to mention that he has no choice about his “leave of absence” —–part of his plea agreement was to seek inpatient drug treatment. He said he was sorry (he got caught being a druggie). He was adamant that he “WILL NOT RESIGN!” I tried to feel sorry for him as he choked up talking about his mom who was also an alcoholic and choked to death on a bite of steak at his wedding reception. But—-then I remembered about all his tea party whackiness, sponsoring and voting for every anti-Obamacare piece of legislation, suggesting Obama could be impeached etc. etc.—-and I didn’t feel so sorry for this difficult situation he has caused himself. He’s a jerk.

        November 20, 2013 at 11:31 pm

        Dotster3,

I am like you. While I recognize that any addiction is a disease and difficult to get rid of, what comes to my mind are the lame attacks against the president, Radel’s impeachment insinuations, his Teabagger bonafide and, worse, his vote for drug testing of anyone in need of food stamps. I wish he recover from his coke problem as much as I wish he resign from the office he holds.

      • November 21, 2013 at 5:20 am

Shame on me, dotster. Unlike you, I didn’t even “try” to feel sorry for him. :)
