    THIRSTY FOR PEACE

    The President of Peace

    By Spandan C

    ——————————

But it has been this president who has been the most effective advocate of peace on the world stage of any American president since John F. Kennedy. President Obama has ended two wars started by his predecessors, disarmed Syria of its chemical weapons without firing a single shot (even if no one in the media noticed, it did happen), and now is poised to permanently keep Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon. In the agreement unveiled over the weekend, it seems that President Obama, Secretary Kerry and their team has had yet another major Middle-East breakthrough:
    .
    .
This is what peace requires. It requires a commitment to fair play, and an iron strong guarantee of consequences for fouls, born out by facts. It requires an American president thirsty for peace, but undaunted to deliver consequences to anyone who takes him for a fool. It requires a president committed to security with targeted actions rather than all-out conflict. It requires neither a warmonger nor a peacenik. It requires the president of peace.

Thanks for posting this…and good to see Spandan back in action:) This reply to his post is where I am right now…I thought this was well said.

I’ve come to the point that I don’t give a damn whether the right wing loonies or the corporate media gives my President the respect he deserves. We know that he is the best President in our lifetimes, bar none. This weekend just reaffirms that fact.
I am convinced that the racial hate (yes I said it) exhibited by the GOP) right wing minions, and the use/manipulation of hate by Koch and others will only end if we vote. To hell with reacting to every hate radio insult. Distracts from the goal of helping PBO finish the job of transforming this country to a place where all are welcome and encouraged to succeed. Where the world is a safer place.
The neocons, right wing, and other assorted cons thrive on chaos. With the Iran agreement, oil prices dropped. The Kochs and others depend on chaos to increase their bottom line.
So my sole focus from now will be to elect people who will support PBO. From Senator to county dog catcher and coroner. Our future depends on it.

Yes, I saw that. The comment is spot on and good advice. Our mantra for the 2014 midterms has to be give President Obama a congress that will work with him for the common good of all Americans.

This is it, df. Everything else is a distraction, designed to take our eyes off the ball. We need to learn from our president and say laser focused on winning enough seats to flip the House and keep the Senate. Eyes on the prize!

      • November 26, 2013 at 10:13 am

        i so agree…

but the gop and their allies…have ramped up Voter Suppression….this fight against Voter Supression is a battle that must be waged…because we cannot change what needs to be done if folks are denied access to the ballot box..

Good morning LH. Spandan can always be counted on to see the big, global picture. Can you imagine how different our American history would be if more presidents had been like PBO. All the lives lost, all the wasted resources that could have gone into building the nation, creating the best educational system in the world, the best health care, the finest transportation. So much was wasted on ego, short sightedness or just plain stupidity. President Obama has shown us and the world what’s possible when you have a president who genuinely wants peace and sees the long view.

GM JG, I hear ya. It just makes to me want to weep when I think of where the country would be if the GOP loved their country more than they hate President Obama.

Once again, we know that the beltway media and self-proclaimed pundits do NOT LISTEN to what the President says. If they did, they could have expected this and could understand this agreement. He has been consistent since he ran in 2007 and 2008. He was consistent in his Nobel Prize speech, he was consistent in his speech to the British Parliament at Westminster (I know I keep harping on that speech, but if people had actually listened, they would have understood how he reset the entire foreign policy debate) he was consistent in Cairo and in Israel. He has been consistent throughout his career.
As Joe Biden has said so many times, “He has a spine of steel.” Frankly, we’re not used to that. We’re used to a president being swayed by money and others. Money does not impress PBO. He lived most of his life without it, which is why he understands what so many Americans are facing.
Once again, THANK YOU, President Obama! You are everything and more I voted for!

I just wrote the President and told him basically what I said here…and thanked him “from the bottom of my heart” for making the world safer for my children and grandchildren.

    PREACH!

    PLEASE PROCEED, GOP

    BY NANCEGREGGS

    ——————————————–

But by all means, GOP, please proceed. Please proceed to compare the achievements of our man to the failures of the spoiled, sniveling boy you installed in office. Please proceed to compare the glitches in the Obamacare website, a program designed to deliver affordable healthcare to millions of Americans, to launching a catastrophic war that has gained us nothing, and cost us more in dollars and lives destroyed than can even be calculated. Please proceed to equate the suffering and death of Katrina victims to the frustration of not being able to log onto a website. Please proceed to berate our man for doing everything in his power to undo the inestimable damage your boy did over the course of eight long, miserable years, while you cheered him on.
    .
    .
Say what you will about the current president, and say it as often as is your wont. The fact still remains that Barack Obama has clearly proven that when it comes to the presidency of the United States, the country should never have sent someone like your boy to do what is clearly a man’s job.

    http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/thats-not-what-appeasement-means

About five years ago, during the 2008 presidential race, far-right radio host Kevin James accused Obama and other Democrats of Chamberlain-like “appeasement” in the Middle East. When MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked James what, specifically, happened in Munich in 1938, the conservative host simply had no idea – James thought it’d be provocative to throw around buzzwords popular with the right, but he never bothered to gain even a cursory understanding of his own rhetoric.

It seems the political world is witnessing a repeat of the same circumstances, only this time it’s on a much larger scale. Instead of one confused radio host being exposed as ignorant on national television, we have much of the conservative movement making the same mistake – Republicans, following Kevin James’ lead five years later, are still pushing a comparison they don’t understand.

The United States and its partners didn’t appease Iran and certainly didn’t give Iranian officials the green light for a nuclear weapons program. They did the opposite, stopping Iran’s program in its tracks.

If Republicans want to talk about instances in which U.S. officials empowered Iran, we can talk about Reagan illegally selling them arms to finance an illegal war in Central America. Or perhaps we can talk about Bush/Cheney expanding Iran’s influence in the Middle East by launching a disastrous war against Iraq, and sitting idly by Iran’s collection of centrifuges grew.

But the P5 +1 deal? That’s the opposite of appeasement.

Today Show this a.m., also on msnbc yesterday—The Cycle, also noted on local Chgo news last night. Already emailed complaint to Today. I think they know me well there by now—-I’m sick of this kind of continuing slanted reporting. In fact, I can’t believe what is going on. In the good news on this subject, I see Chgo Trib’s story on this subject was complete with PBO providing a “teaching moment.”

      Brilliant ………

Secret talks with Iran started in March 2013. So that must mean that not only is President Obama a charismatic and effective leader HE IS ALSO CLAIRVOYANT. He could see that the October 1, 2013 rollout of the Affordable Care Act was going to be a disaster so he started plotting in March 2013 to distract attention with a history making deal with Iran. WOW. /smdh/

Seems to me that the people pushing this distraction story have been told to keep a negative story going about Obamacare. Anyone believing it already hated PBO for whatever reason so believes every crazy story out there. We need more critical thinking skills and recognition of persuasive ploys taught to counter the brain washing ways of today’s media.

You Might Lose Your Doctor, But Don’t Blame Obamacare

    By Jonathan Cohn

    ———————————–

Obamacare critics on the right think they have a new issue. They are calling it “provider shock.” Thanks to the new health care law, these conservatives say, insurance companies are limiting beneficiaries to small groups of doctors and hospitals. As a result, people who depend on these professionals and institutions will have to seek treatment elsewhere—and, inevitably, get substandard care.
    .
    .
If you’re a fellow health policy geek, then you may have guessed the punch line. This article isn’t from 2013. It’s from 2002. And it’s a reminder of the essential truth here. Insurance companies have been using limited provider networks for a long time. It’s how they conducted business before Obamacare came along and, for better or worse, it’s how they’ll conduct business now that Obamacare is law.

Apparently for some, the Christian-Spirit and Patriotic Love of Country only applies as long as everyone “stays in their place”. For them, the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States is the ultimate displacement of roles. They are unable and/or unwilling to accept the changing roles and as a result, their systems have gone haywire, leading to the extreme cases of ODS exhibited in their behavior.

President Obama is not allowing the dysfunction of some to stop him from doing what he needs to do and neither should we. We can’t be so focused on how things ought to be that it keeps us from doing what we need to do. We know what is needed to repair some of the damage in the operation of our government. President Obama has given us a blueprint/map as to the direction he is trying to take us. That is where our focus has to stay. The cacophony from GOPTP/MSM has been around long enough that we should be able to relegate it to the background noise that it is. As Waltb31 commented in the Spandan post, we have to stop “giv[ing] a damn whether the right wing loonies or the corporate media gives [our] President the respect he deserves. [Because] We *know* that he is the best President in our lifetimes…” Otherwise, we are allowing their distractions to successfully stagnate our progress.

A few days ago TOD highlighted the first official state dinner of the Obama Administration in 2009. I loved seeing the glorious pictures again.

What is relevant to me today is that when that very historic event happened the news was diverted from the implications of the choice of India for the first recognition honor and ALL about a gate-crashing couple, woman in a red sari.

Gossip and trivia driving out respect and actual discussion of important issues.

What I didn’t know then was that the template for denigrating and trivializing all things Obama was being forged.

So when I was lucky enough to see the heart-stirring important policy speech The President delivered in SF yesterday I knew that the headline would be “President Heckled.”
Abby Huntsmann delivered. Crap and no content.

I caught the beginning of Rachel last night and she did cover the foreign policy and immigration guts of The President’s speech and her guest Joe Cirincione is a great advocate for the Iran deal. So not all dark yet. But getting there(ht B. Dylan)
