Yes We Can, Iran Style

The Atlantic: Iran’s President Has Released His Own ‘Yes We Can’ Video

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s charm offensive continues at home with a musical clip that seems to have been inspired by President Obama’s “Yes We Can” music video. The beautifully made black-and-white clip, which includes segments of the Iranian president’s August 3 inauguration speech mixed with music, singing, and sign language, has been released to mark the first 100 days of his presidency.

…. Rouhani’s video was posted on his website and shared on Twitter by the unverified account of the Iranian president, which is said to be maintained by his media team.

…. In the clip, unprecedented for an Iranian president, people of all ages play musical instruments and sing to Rouhani’s words in Persian, but also in the languages of Iran’s minorities, including Kurdish and Arabic….

The main takeaway of the clip seems to be unity….

Chips, are you messing around with new widgets, or were these already there? BTW, “I like what you did with the place”

‘…what she did with the place.’ What DID Chips do? Is she the reason why the post section (and the font itself) looks greyer than normal, causing my eyes to hurt? I thought that was my laptop or WordPress acting up. I do wish she wouldn’t fiddle with the village when it’s working fine. :(

you have got to be kidding me. the fact that this video exists at all is unreal. president obama is is enough to make me actually believe in a higher power. that he came along at the time he did, and to influence the entire world in this way…incredible.

Urge all of you to read ever word of it:

    “Reforming NSA from the top

That the National Security Agency needs reform in the aftermath of the politically disastrous Snowden Operation seems unquestionable. As I’ve laid out in my open letter to my former employer, NSA needs to build trust with the American public, and fast, as well as prevent another Snowden-like catastrophe from ever happening again.

It’s known that NSA Director (DIRNSA) General Keith Alexander, USA – the longest-serving Director in the Agency’s history – will be out in the spring, along with his deputy, Chris Inglis. Which is good and, in my opinion, long overdue. It’s been suggested that it’s time to civilianize the DIRNSA position, perhaps making new directors subject to Senate approval. If we go that route, Congress may want to consider fixed, ten-year terms, non-renewable, as with the FBI’s directorship. However, any discussion of reforming the DIRNSA job and who holds it ought to be accompanied by a reality-based discussion of how NSA works at high levels. So here it is, you won’t be getting it anywhere else.”

this china stuff makes no sense, other than it’s on purpose by the military industrial complex to try to keep unrest happening somewhere, since president obama is dismantling all their favorite boogeymen one by one.

they tried this same stuff back when king bush the lesser was failing miserably already within his first year, and there was some thing about chinese and american planes out of nowhere, but that was shelved because 9/11 happened, then nothing about china anymore for years.

for this to be happening right after the historic iran deal….i call bull!

    • November 26, 2013 at 10:59 pm

Actually, China has been slowly asserting its claim to near-superpower status for several years. Perhaps not on the level of the US, but it does believe it should be the final arbiter of conditions in East Asia. And it wants to secure natural resources, thus its tiffs with Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Its acquiring a “blue water navy” so that it can challenge the US in the East China Sea. For once, this has nothing to do with the MIC; it has to do with an ancient country reasserting its might.

    • November 26, 2013 at 11:08 pm

No, this is being done with tacit Obama admin & Hagel’s consent. China’s pacific bombast had been increasingly growing into an intolerable irritant to the Far-Eastern countries. It is the reason many of them begged Pres Obama to exert US presence there. The result was PBO’s Australian Parliament speech in 2011 in which he asserted that China was free to grow but not by intimidating other countries in the region. He capped it by saying the US “IS A PACIFIC POWER, and WE’RE HERE TO STAY” Then he announced increases in joint US-Aussie troop “exercises”. So our defiance of China’s silly bluster is to tell em to go Eff themselves. PBO hates bullies who take advantage of smaller countries

As posted in the previous thread in response to an excerpt that amk quoted:

Yep. This is the ‘real deal’ that some of us have been watching closely for the past decade (while, of course, US corporate media has had effectively zero coverage). One of the great harms caused by GWB and the #NEOCONSTERS illegal war on Iraq is how much it weakened overall US National Security because of the damage it did to both our economy and our credibility. Had McCain or Romney been elected what is unfolding now would be profoundly more dangerous. But, #PBO has known from before he became President that this challenge would dwarf any that he has resolved or is trying to resolve in the ME.

      Its adults only, now.”

The “MIC” might be delighted but that would be a further indication of why President Obama – the only President since Eisenhower – is going to rein them in and, at the same time, be very much prepared for any challenge to our commitments to Australia, NZ, Japan, South Korea, etc.

#GWB and Cheney did enormous damage to our ability to do keep those commitments and that is why President Obama has brought such intense focus on our Asia Pacific relationships.

China has a history of aggressive expansionism. They invented gun powder and rocketry and used them as tools of land grabbing.

thanks all for the info. still seems strange to have this become the major news story right after such a historic deal with iran. president obama never gets more than 24 hours after a major accomplishment before “the news” is onto the next drama for him to take care of. the timing is what made me suspicious, not the activity itself.

The world is really tilting away from the Neocons isn’t it! They are going to have a difficult time in this new world…..”O Brave new World that has such people in it” Shakespeare fits almost any situation. That line and Orwell’s title come from The Tempest.
The neocons will kick and scream themselves into irrelevance……

Please respond to ObamaGrandma from the end of the last thread with your tweet on the Senate upping the Iran sanctions.

I can’t open another window to paste your tweet on the subject.

Apparently @Maddow was doing what emoprogs do best, undermining Dems.

ObamaGrandma, LP’s tweet said that the Senate action would take effect after the 6 month interim period, so is entirely consistent with what President Obama said on Saturday night, i.e., to let Iran know that if they don’t fulfill the terms of the agreement after 6 months they will pay the consequences.

    Thanks, LP!

All right, gentle yet fierce ones. I’m off to watch some TV, read, and listen to music. All at the same time, because I rock. See everyone tomorrow.

And Chips, I like the new widgets.

  16. November 26, 2013 at 11:23 pm

I sure do appreciate anyone, including the Pope, who speaks truth to power.

Tweeted this while preparing dinner ….

…. if anyone had suggested I’d be tweeting President Obama and suggesting he meet with a Pope I’d have responded with ‘you need emergency psychiatric care’ … prior to today.

It seems they might be quite aligned and able to do a great deal of good if they forge an alliance. I’d add President Rouhani to that mix.

Humanity is full of truly fine empathetic and brilliant folk. Let’s hope they congregate and act to stem the obvious forces of evil embodied in folk we all know all to well – the Kochs, Scaifes, etc …..

    Yes We Can

Well done, Bob. As an Obama-lovin’ Catholic, I believe that both President Obama and Pope Francis have arrived in our world just in the nick of time, and are “brothers in kindness,” to borrow from Pres. Obama’s borrowed quote today from Roger Ebert on kindness. And because I’m Irish and always lookin’ for a lucky number, and believe good things come in threes, I believe you may have something there with your choice of President Rouhani. Time will tell. Fingers crossed, rabbit’s foot standing by, praying to St. Jude (patron of hope and whom we Catholics pray to for intercession in “hopeless cases”).

Lovely comment, Jacqueline. Let’s hope that these 3 individuals will enable each other to rise to heights that as great as they each are individually they might not achieve without such a collaboration.

Hope & Change – we’ve seen plenty of it thanks to President Obama!!!

Mr. Bobfr, just catching up here.
You are truly a spiritual man.
Lou Rawls sang a song about a “natural man”. You are all that, and then some.
Thank you for being who you are.

With this bit of humor I’ll wish all of you a restful evening and lovely Wed morning …
