Essential sweater zoom-in:
Thank you aaaaaaall for the beautiful messages to the blog tyrants in the last post, you lovely people!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving Mariele – and everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving MRM & congrats on first!
GGaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAaaaaAAAaaaaaaAAAaaaail!!!!! Happy Thanksgiving!
And to you & Danny too my dear.
It was nice to see that Cousin Henry stopped by to say ‘greetings”
It was lovely of him GGail, but he’s Irish so you expect loveliness
Oh….silly me….I forgot….the Irish got an extra sprinkle of loveliness
CC’s modesty’s on display again. /smh/
Not in any regular Bible!
First you started to redo dictionary meanings (like ‘Fiiiiiiirst’ when you are 10th and ‘morally’ when Lord only knows what you meant), and now you’re moving on to the Bible? Lord, help us.
Quite clearly, VC, I have the dictionary and the Bible on my side
Right or left? Obviously not in (as ‘in’ brain/memory).
I’m really fond of that sweater on PBO. Looks very relaxed and comfortable. Congrats to you, Mariele…and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Happy Thanksgiving, Chips. HUGE hugs for you and Danny!! Has he gotten to lick any gravy off anything yet??
DeeeeeeeEeeeeeef! I just ordered Danny a large rubber chicken, so that’ll have to do him!
I agree about the sweater DF!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your fam!!
Yep. It looks fantastic on him.
In the other post Cihips said:
To my shame, I’d actually forgotten so many of the things this President has achieved, so it was a beautiful, powerful, magical reminder
That was exactly what I was thinking when I read all the things Pres. Obama has done. Thanks, UT, for the wonderful reminder!
Why I live in L.A.
It’s 69 degrees and sunny.
And the missus and I have been having margaritas on our front porch.
I was just about to thank you for your earlier lovely message LL, but I’ve changed my mind. Completely.
The funny thing is that my first two years here all I did was plot to get back to New York. And now I have nightmares where I’m living back in New York. I wake up and sigh with relief.
I hear you, LL ! Beautiful day in PHX as well… 73 degrees right now…absolutely perfect. Even have a window open….
My Teabagger cousin from Tucson is next door at his parents’ / my aunt and uncle. But, you know, family.
Yeah, well…we make allowances for family:) Nutbags and all!
Yes, LL, it is a lovely day today. I’m done with my cooking and ready to chill.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Missus.
Thank you Gail!
The missus is unexpectedly home. She was supposed to attend to a patient today, but sadly he passed away last night.
Oh LL, I’m so sorry. Peace to the patient’s family.
Then the two of you do need to enjoy today. Go watch the sun set from Venice beach.
LL, you and I should have a talk about this unseemly weather bragging that visits you at the oddest times. It’s becoming a bit worrisome, particularly because I wouldn’t want it to become contagious.
Honestly, it was supposed to be raining today and tomorrow. I was quite looking forward to it. So I’m of two minds about the whole thing. But, still. Having margaritas on the porch on Thanksgiving day is a nice perk of living out here. However, I’m ready for a nice cleansing series of storms.
Well, I wasn’t going to wish storms per se your way, just a little snow.
Well, what I call “storms” the missus calls a rainy day. She’s always laughed at Angelenos and our relationship with rain.
“Storm Watch” Los Angeles style
Reminds me of when I moved from NJ to FL in the mid-1990s, and saw people enjoying Thanksgiving on their patios. And found out for the first (conscious) time that poinsettias actually grow in the ground, and don’t just come in a pot with a for sale sign on ‘em.

Sweatergate! I’m LOVIN’ the way that looks on him…..yardarm!!!!!
Desertflower, I know. I hope yardarm does not find out. Loving this sweater on our POTUS. He had on one similar in the Oval Office going over a speech. Remember anyone. I think we had to call Yardarm out with the mats during that time as well. HZ
I love this sweater! He looks so good in it. I bet it will be a popular buy for Christmas, lol.
President looks so huggable in this sweater.
I am so thankful to Chipsticks, UT, LL and all the other TOD regulars and contributors who help keep this beautiful oasis of love and support for our President going every day! This is my place of refuge when the naysayers on the news are babbling.
UT, that 50 Thank Yous to the President post was wonderful!! I passed it on to F&F. And the cool part is, that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the accomplishments of President Obama and his lovely FLOTUS. An amazing sea of change is beginning to wash over this country and the world! Even though the forces that fear this change are fighting tooth and nail every day, I know that a shift of consciousness is growing in the people’s hearts and minds, and we have our Pres to thank for it.
As you guys say here often, I am grateful to be alive in this time. And, I am soooo grateful for The Obama Diary!
Happy TDay to all and, for those lighting candles today, Mazel Turkey!
Thank you soooo much MadameSoph, happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgivukkah MadameSoph :-)
Thanks so much MadameSoph. Wishing you and yours the best!
You know, I truly love how all the Obamas do casual. They always seem real, no matter the occasion.
PBO is definitely rocking an LL look. Vneck sweater with a white tshirt. Classic.
If not for the most famous office in the world, PBO could be sitting in my house, making a phone call to a few friends on this Thanksgiving Day. HE OWNS wherever he is, so completely comfortable is he in his own skin.
+ 1,000,000,000 Happy Thanksgiving Isonprize!!!!
Backatcha, Chica. Wherever you are. Give thanks today and every day. Peace to you and yours!

Good for you GB!!! Hope all continues to go well for you.
Thanks, Bob! you too.
Fine analysis – you will not waste your time reading all of it:
“Saved by the Deal
How Rouhani Won the Negotiations and Rescued His Regime”
“In this sense, Rouhani owes his surprise election victory in June not only to the millions of Iranians who overcame their fears of a replay of 2009 to vote for him but also to an establishment that had carefully cleared the way for his dark-horse candidacy. The system’s sentinels had permitted him to run a wildly iconoclastic campaign that galvanized young Iranians and unshackled an extraordinary debate over the once-sacrosanct nuclear program. Then, after his win, Rouhani was permitted to install the most forward-leaning, Western-oriented cabinet in post-revolutionary history. In speeches and press conferences, he openly staked his presidency on resolving the nuclear impasse, promising more active diplomacy and efforts to build trust and transparency. Although Iranian leaders have continued to laud their ability to withstand and evade sanctions, the cost of defiance had clearly become too much for the system to bear.”
“If Rouhani’s government of “hope and prudence” is going to fulfill his people’s expectations, then the Islamic Republic’s current embrace of pragmatism must prevail over its well-honed authoritarian impulses and institutions. Nothing in Iran’s post-revolutionary history gives reason for optimism about enduring moderation; past attempts by pragmatic presidents to moderate the regime were derailed by hard-liner opposition and intra-elite competition. Still, with Rouhani having been entrusted with the historic role of engineering the country’s first opening to Washington (something neither Rafsanjani nor Khatami could claim), he may yet prove able to transform Iran’s domestic climate.
Many players around the world have critiqued the deal. But the ebullient Iranian response to the bargain offers a reminder of the power of diplomacy. The fact that the bargain boosted the profile of the country’s moderates — and put more pressure on them to deliver to the Iranian people — bolsters the case for diplomacy. We now know that Washington has long pursued diplomacy, even when the political conditions within Iran were at their worst — overtures that may have helped persuade the ever-suspicious Khamenei to initiate the quiet program of recalibration that culminated with Rouhani’s election.”

VC, all of those are so thoughtful !
In the manner of ‘Are we there yet?’
Is supper all ready? I’m feeling a bit peckish? <<<< BTW, is this a familiar expression?
Yes, if you’re a Brit, or, like me, an Anglophile who started watching Monty Python when he was 8.
Dinner is all ready! I’m full from my taste-testing :D Just waiting for my daughter to get off work so we can eat together.
“Peckish”? what’s YOUR definition VC?
Mildly hungry. (Had to go out so just seeing your question.)
And yes, when I do cook for guests I end up not being hungry by the time they arrive due to my taste-testing. Added to which, if I’m responsible for things overall I’m the last to eat because I wait till the end.
The man is so freaking GQ!!!! He’s comfortable in his skin and his environment and it shows. That swagger is on blast.
Happy Thanksgiving from down under – I still haven’t quite worked out what and where and why about thanksgiving – but seeing as it generates some delightful posts and pictures and everyone sounds like they are having/have had a wonderful day – it seems like a very good idea
The last post will take me an hour to read – before I get to the comments – heading back there now
99ts – If you were asking about why we celebrate Thanksgiving today, in particular …
We’ve had national days of thanksgiving since before we had our Constitution, but Pres. Lincoln’s 1863 proclamation (during the Civil War) of a national day of Thanksgiving – marked on the final Thursday in November – was the origin of today’s celebration. Of course, even with all that, there have still been controversies about it. We’re America, after all – gotta be a controversy! Here’s more:
Thank you JoB – it seems too many of our special days relate to wars – which is a little sad – perhaps that is why Christmas is a favorite with so many countries – being as it celebrates a birth.
Do hope you enjoyed the day – and overindulged :)
Only overindulged on the pie part … well, actually, the whipped cream on top of the pie part!
LOL – I adore having pavlova for Christmas dessert – I pretend the fruit makes it A okay!
Yes, definitely, A okay!
Oh, and, seeing the glass half full even in the 1860s, what I liked best about Lincoln’s proclamation was his taking the thoughts of the nation away from the worst war ever, a war within our borders, and taking time to be thankful for what appeared to be prevailing and what did, eventually prevail (reminds me of Churchill’s thanking the miners who played their role during war and “cut the coal”):
“In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.”
I should have added – I have learned more US history on TOD in the past few years – than in my previous 60 or so :)

Cardiologists strongly back Obamacare, worry over rocky start
Heart specialists say the key to achieving that goal is a greater focus on preventive care and access to medical services for more Americans. They view anything that gets more people tested and treated for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and atherosclerosis as a major improvement over treating heart attacks and strokes on an emergency basis.
The Affordable Care Act’s emphasis on preventive care and increased access, as well as its ban on denying health insurance due to pre-existing conditions, accounts for much of the support in U.S. cardiology circles.
Some 7.3 million Americans with a history of cardiovascular disease are uninsured. They are expected to have access next year to treatment and preventive care under the new government-subsidized healthcare reform, said Dr. Elliott Antman, President elect of the American Heart Association.
“For people who have had a stroke who are uninsured, they’re at 56 percent higher risk of dying from that stroke than patients who are insured,” said Antman, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
“So if we could deal with elevated blood pressure and cholesterol more effectively than we do now by chipping away at the barriers (to preventive care), just think how much progress that would be,” Antman said.
Happy thanksgiving to you, Chips, and the entire TOD family. Thank you for being a family of inclusion. You continuously amaze me with your welcome to all who support PBO and his presidency, no matter their location, nationality and creed. This blog is evidence that people can engage harmoniously (even when they sometimes have different viewpoints) to pursue truth, justice and goodness. You have become the Virtual United Nations. Do accept our gratitude and love.

The last guy amongst the rescue of JFK dies at 87 yrs old.
So sad that he was the only one left and now he’s gone home on the 50th week of JFK’s untimely death by an assassin.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The last surviving member of the crew that rescued John F. Kennedy from an island in the Pacific Ocean during World War II has died.
Guy Gardo said Jack Gardo died in his sleep at his Greenville home Wednesday. He was 87. The younger Gardo said his father had suffered from dementia for the past six years.
Jack Gardo’s PT-157 was sent to rescue the survivors of PT-109 after the patrol torpedo boat was rammed in the middle of the night by a Japanese destroyer.
Gardo said he and his crew learned where the survivors were after a native islander arrived with a coconut on which Kennedy had scrawled their location.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! It’s such a small world. I have a cousin & his wife that live in Lawrenceville. I’ve been there several times.
Even though FDR’s “Four Freedoms” speech was part of his 1941 State of the Union address, I always think of it around Thanksgiving … since one of Norman Rockwell’s famous “Four Freedoms” paintings depicts today’s holiday. FDR’s words are still appropriate in this millennium, of course.
Happy Thanksgiving from Southern California.
Happy Thanksgiving Ms Chips and everyone, thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful blog, Ms Chips! Huge shout out to UT for her excellent posts, and of course LL, zizi, amk, Bob & LP! Hope everyone is having a beautiful day shared with family and friends.
