You mean you don’t have your ballgown on this morning? You do realize there’s a TOD dress code, don’t you?

/whispering/ It doesn’t fit any more. I’ll stay over in the corner, behind that big tree so I won’t embarrass you all. Or better yet, up in the tree where I can get a wider view of attendees.

      And this is about time….http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/house-dems-hitting-60-republicans-on-obamacare

Now, I guess we need to break this info down into bite size (tweet) format for sharing with contacts That’s so “long” the average voter in these guys/gals districts aren’t going to read it all.

Foolishly read a piece on Robert Gibbs when I went to read your link – what is his problem? Was he fired from the White House? He can’t stop attacking the administration.

        • 41 dotster3
          December 4, 2013 at 8:35 am

I may be wrong—–it would be the first time, but ……:) I suspect Gibbs is still good friends with PBO and is doing his part in distancing Obama from the health care roll out with his continual assertion that someone should be fired. I read someone refer to him as a “roving surrogate” for President Obama, and I think this may be what his role is.

            December 4, 2013 at 8:50 am

Thanks for the reply – I hope this is true – but he has been negative about the administration every time I have heard him on MSNBC. I have trouble believing he is benefiting PBO by his words.

DF. this is a smart move on the part of Dems–stop being defensive and hit the Repubs back. I suspect there is now real cooperation between the White House and the DCCC. That’s what it’s going to take to win back the House.

The ‘little guy’ has so much stacked against him vis-a-vis financial growth. From the article Amk linked above.
      //……………..
Two of the eight, Barclays and UBS, were excused their financial penalties for revealing the cartels’ existence.

The Commission said it was shocking that competing banks were in collusion.

UBS and Barclays stood to pay the largest fines of 2.5bn euros and 690m euros, but avoided paying anything because they assisted the investigation.

A number of banks were engaged in the rigging of interest rate products intended to reflect the cost of interbank lending in euros, while another group fixed prices for products based on the Japanese yen.

The rates are used to set the price of trillions of dollars of products, including mortgages.

Some were involved in both markets and more than one cartel, including RBS, which was fined a total of 391m euros (£325m).

Amazing isn’t it how these f…rs were able to cut a deal just for squealing on fellow thieves and get out of paying the fines?

          December 4, 2013 at 8:07 am

Such honour among thieves! And they seemed to have benefited most! Pity the authorities didn’t simply halve *their* fine.

Morning Chips et al. Yesterday we had our one and only moderate, sunny day and I took a deep dive into Christmas decorating the outside of our house–front and back. That meant ladders, yards and yards of lights, wreaths, bows, and trips to Lowe’s to replace lights that don’t work, etc, etc, etc. Hours later, I could barely move and just stared at the TOD posts, wondering at all the energy it took for people to write them. Today, it looks as if we’ve might have over done it a teensy bit on the lights–maybe just a little too gaudy? Oh well, if you’re going to do it, might as well do it big. Have a great day.

Morning, JG. Your comment made me laugh. I like your philosophy so much – ‘if you’re going to do it, might as well do it big’ – that I think I’ll make the opposite choice. ‘I didn’t feel like doing it big, so I didn’t do lights this year.’ That’ll be my explanation should any of my cheeky Christmas guests ask. TY

Hey, VC, the only thing motivating me was the thought that our 15 month granddaughter is going to visit us and I wanted her eyes to light up when she saw the house. If it was just us old folks, I would have given up after the door wreath.

South Africa’s ailing first black President Nelson Mandela is putting up a courageous fight from his “deathbed”, his daughter Makaziwe Mandela says.

She told national broadcaster SABC that the anti-apartheid icon was “still with us, strong, courageous”.

“Even for a lack of a better word… on his deathbed he is teaching us lessons – lessons in patience, in love, lessons of tolerance,” she added.

Mr Mandela, 95, is receiving home-based medical care.

He was discharged from hospital in September after being treated for nearly three months for a recurring lung infection.

The main stream media simply refuses to acknowledge that Boehner is lying. They happily report his “objections” to the ACA, but fail to confront him with the accuracy of his “evidence” and fail to demand that he presents an alternate plan of his own.

    • 74 jackiegrumbacher
      December 4, 2013 at 9:08 am

Does Boehner do anything but lie? It seems to be his best skill, along with relentless hatred, of course, which seems to corrode his soul. Maybe that’s why he’s orange.

Great little read. Has this already been posted? i’m behind…

    http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2013/12/the-obama-recovery-pope-and-collective.html

What does the recent good economic and foreign policy news and desperate Republican attempts to undermine the economy and manipulate the media have to do with Rush Limbaugh’s crackle with the pontiff, you ask? Everything. The right wing panic of the moment and the Republican obstructionism of President Obama throughout his presidency have the same root: they are afraid that the pragmatic, progressive approach to governance embodied by President Obama will work. And if it works, no amount of Fox News bobbleheading or playing the refs on the rest of the media will end up having lasting effect.

The libertarian belief that now dominates the Republican party and a good part of the Left media – that government does not, cannot, and should not work – is at the core of the knee-jerk obstructionism we have seen. Apart from the skin color of the man in charge of the White House, this is the biggest sticking point with ideological conservatives. In fact the underlying philosophy of of the two beliefs – racism and laissez faire economics – are one and the same. Both are based on the philosophy that sees the privileged as righteous, the underprivileged as morally flawed, and any concept of social equality as antithetical to the natural order of things.

Excellent article – thanks df for linking this here :)

A bit off topic, but generally related to this article and everything else:

PBO is going to give an economic speech on focusing on Income disparity – and of course, the media cannot simply report that he’s doing it, they have to lead in with a crappy propaganda statement that he’s giving the speech “amid doubts about his economic stewardship” whatever the hell that means.

The media has yet to produce a single article calling out John Boehner and his GOP colleagues in congress for failing to produce the jobs that they promised in 2010, and worse yet, for simply obstructing the President when he tried to produce bills that would create additional jobs. Instead they can find the time to concern troll every report about PBO, no matter how straightforward or mundane, by mentioning his “low” poll numbers, or “public doubts” or some other nonsense.

At least I got rid of Kristen Welker for me and y’all——at least that’s what I’m telling myself since I haven’t noticed her ugly, negative reporting since I blasted her in a Sunday night email to NBC, saying her misleading (lying), sarcastic reporting on Ocare and PBO was making NBC unwatchable. Probably just a temporary reprieve and she’s on vacay in the Bahamas, or something. But it’s been a nice breather, at least. Now on to repulsive Chuck Toad.

Dotster, my hat’s off to you for watching at all. I haven’t had the intestinal fortitude to watch any tv news on any network or cable station for years. It is all corporate propaganda. But I admire anyone who acts as a watchdog on these liars. Good for you for calling NBC out on their trash. There may be some local media somewhere that still do a decent job of reporting “news,” but for the most part the US media is dead. People in other countries have learned to bypass their controlled media through social networks and that liberation has led to a yearning for freedom in repressed societies. We give the “illusion” of a free press, so it may take a little longer for people to realize how much they’re being duped by the big, expensive media. I’m counting on the generations behind us to get it and reject them wholesale. I’ve always felt there’s a “greatest of all” generation coming up–maybe it’s the ones who have now grown up with Barack Obama as president and know what’s possible.

BIDEN URGES CHINA’S YOUTH TO CHALLENGE “STATUS QUO”

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden opened a two-day visit to China Wednesday by urging young Chinese students to challenge their government, teachers and religious leaders. … Biden paid a visit to the U.S. embassy, where he surprised Chinese citizens waiting to get visitor visas… Thanking a group of mostly young people for wanting to visit the U.S., Biden said he hoped they would learn during their visit that “innovation can only occur where you can breathe free.”

“Children in America are rewarded — not punished — for challenging the status quo,” Biden said. “The only way you make something totally new is to break the mold of what was old.” http://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-urges-chinas-youth-to-challenge-status-quo/
