5:20: President Obama delivers remarks at the Kennedy Center Honors Reception, East Room
Also at White House Live
7:30: The President and First Lady attend the Kennedy Center Honors, Kennedy Center
Don’t think this will shown tonight – will be aired on CBenghaziS on December 29… presumably Billy Joel will be ‘singing’ (sic)
Hellooooooo LadyTNT and COS!!!
We posted at the same time Lady.
YES WE DID!! (pun intended)
This slow Sunday is working out well for me!!
You are on a roll Lady T
Just for today!! But I like it!!
I didn’t get a good look at the dress, but I know it’s a pretty green!!
Way to go LadyT & COS!
Thanks VC!!! I feel like a mini vc today!!
Wat a minute, you implying that I’m oversized? Watch it there, LadyT!
NO WAY!!! Just saying I’m trying to be like you when I grow up!! That’s all!!! (I can’t even make all the smilie facies you can, so I have a long way to go!)
LadyT, I could continue to tease by pointing out that I’m not GROWN UP yet. But I’ll behave…..for now. Re smilie faces, Chips Chica shared a chart with us some time back. Here’s one that’s very similar.
Thanks VC!! You’re so and have made me feel so
Testing, not that I’ll ever need this one, but ….
o yes, and what about
You might need it when the BT’s post a new thread before you’re ready
Naw, I don’t get mad even then, LadyT, just frustrated that they won’t wait for an old lady. I mean, whatever happened to the tradition of helping old ladies cross the street? BTW, FTR, I’m only ‘old’ when it suits me.
Lol, I already know!!!
First Lady Michelle Obama looks AMAZING!!!!
Hmm..I missed her – can’t wait to see her!
Okay, Utal, SHARE, why don’t you! I could barely see FLOTUS – couldn’t even tell what colour she was wearing, though I do think I spotted her shoulder(s).
Oooooh, heavens: President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama arrive for the Kennedy Center Honors reception at WH http://t.co/1VljQyvZUD— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) December 08, 2013
THANKS, CC, you are worth your weight in pictures!
You calling me fat???
Wherever did you get that idea? [God, I wish someone would hurry and figure out the angelic smilie!] Pictures are still flat, aren’t they?
thanks! I’m just getting here and missed everything. Any chance you’ll be posting the President speaking?
What a handsome couple!
GGaaaaaaaaail!! Just forward to 8 ish minutes in this video:
Beautiful ! I can’t wait to see the program.
So, Chipsticks, I was chuckling while I listened to the President speak about the “one who shall remain nameless”
I love the Kennedy Center Honors in the age of Obama!
I may be wrong, but something tells me that you didn’t pay a whole lotta attention to it prior to 2009…
The President is praising Billy Joel.
Behave yourself, Chica!
See, it wasn’t too bad, because it didn’t last long enough to irritate.
Whaddya mean – it lasts from 22:55 to 24:43 on the video, a flippin’ LIFETIME.
Now, now, Chica. Be reasonable! PBO couldn’t not say anything and I’m sure some of the others had praise that lasted longer. Really most had more flowery, and more ‘natural’ language. I actually wondered if you managed to convey your issues with BJ to PBO.
Love how you use “(sic)” for some of your least favorite “singers (sic)” (like Billy and Mariah)! Makes me smile every time. (I’m an easy target.)
Well I guess it’s not just me who will be begging for Chips’ forgiveness….
You are in fine company, Hopefruit
Romney wishes it were him and Miss Ann trotting down the to the WH reception with all eyes on Miss Ann and him feeling like a King.
Luckily, their empty-headed mutual wish didn’t come true!
What was the little remark Queen Ann said when ask by Diane Sawyer if she had anything to say to President Obama.
There’s Chips’ man, Billy!!!
Chips, hope you held up all right through all the praise heaped on Billy Joel. Joel has not aged well, so there’s that.
It was hard Jackie, for the first time I found myself howling IMPEEEEEEEEACH!
Is that “grr” because of all the sexual tension?!
I did see that FLOTUS gown is green.
Just waiting for the pictures.

Kennedy Center Honors Gala, Saluting Martina Arroyo, Herbie Hancock, Billy Joel, Shirley MacLaine, Carlos Santana
The Honors Gala will be recorded for broadcast on CBS as a two-hour primetime special Dec. 29 at 9 PM ET.(The Kennedy Center Honors medallions were presented Dec. 7, the night before the gala, at a State Department dinner hosted by Secretary of State John Kerry.)
So I’m watching the replay – I love these people – they are honored and they also honor their President. This is a two way love affair with every one of these recipients and the President.
Just shows how much of a false narrative the MSM is ginning up:
not that the press cares (i.e. he's doooomed), but Obma's Gallup approv rating today is higher than it was on this date 2011; #narratives— Eric Boehlert (@EricBoehlert) December 08, 2013
There can be no other explanation for Paul’s reasoning other than people want to stay unemployed, otherwise he wouldn’t think that taking away unemployment benefits creates job opportunities. This veers dangerously close to the “lazy urban” narrative that Republicans favor. It is not accurate to suggest that starving will create jobs. So this is not a good plan for jobs or for the unemployed.
*The* dress!!!! @NerdyWonka http://t.co/tSsx0v7rys— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) December 08, 2013
O, ho, FLOTUS’ dress straps both fell down!
I love how POTUS and FLOTUS look! They glow on these occasions, there’s no other word I can think of right now – the glow.
The Glowwwwwwww….yes indeed!
The most incredible couple of gorgeous people EVAH.
Lordy lordy the woman and the dress – I cannot turn away – so beautiful. They are the first nonfictional couple I have ever shipped. Well actually they’re the only for REAL couple I ship. Hey. Don’t judge me.
I saw Chris Matthews interviewing M Night Saymalan (sic) yesterday on Book TV . Night did an analysis of a 2 year study on Education in America and wrote a book titled ” I’ve been schooled ”
He made a comment that was very interesting …. He said if the scores of from the Students in the inner cities are removed from that recent study that looked so terrible for the US….removing those scores , The US is # 1 in every category.
The problem is the poor education in our cities…..and somewhat in rural areas.
Not sure the assessment re removing scores of inner city students is ‘valuable’. Inner city students ARE American students and something needs to be done to bring them up to par education-wise.
Indeed – the poor are already fairly invisible, and the GOP are working hard to make them even more invisible. Excluding them from the scores, when they actually number a fair proportion of the population, is pointless. Only 1% is wealthy, and the middle class is dwindling.
Also, pointing fingers at them in this way is IMO another way to class them as ‘other’, to lay blame, if you will. See, if it weren’t for *those* inner city students the U.S. would be on top. Well, she isn’t, so how can we address the inadequacies in the system to better serve our inner city students?
He was making the point that our system fails the inner city students…….
Thanks for clarification, Linda (still wish he hadn’t worded it quite that way. I’m sensitive about it I guess).
I didn’t interpret it quite that way – I think he’s actually laying blame at the inequality in the US educational and economic system which causes these children to underachieve.
I hear you and Linda both….now. That was one of my (rare?) trigger reactions. I can’t imagine why.
No problem vc! Actually I think most people would have a similar initial reaction as you and theo did, because many times, that’s exactly how this underachievement gap is presented – as a failure of the inner city students and their families.
So don’t worry! Glad we were able to clarify for you
I agree – it’s in really poor form. (Hey, VC!)
Hello, my dear Theo! Is this ‘next weekend’ or is that next weekend?
I couldn’t resist making a brief appearance. The go-live is next weekend, though…
Okay – confusion gone. The O’s will lighten your mind for sure, and send you back rejuvenated.
I think Saymalan’s point is exactly your point vc (and Linda’s point as well) – that the problem is not with US Education system per se relative to other countries – but within the US educational system, there are gaps in educational attainment due to systemic differences in the quality of education afforded by various groups in the US. The inner cities are dragging down the average scores because the students in those districts are under-performing – not because of their intellectual ability but because of deficiencies in their social and educational environment.
That is what is what he was saying…….
Thank you, Hf and Linda, for clarifying. Not having seen the clip or read the article or whatever, I confess that ‘taking the inner city out, we’d be perfect’ struck a nerve. Can you tell I’m an inner city child?
Maybe reflecting how the money is allocated for education in the states – the inner city areas are where the majority go to government run schools – which are being starved of funds by GOP governors

Oh my goodness!!! That dress!!!!! Our first couple the most handsome ever!!!!! Are we going to get to watch the honors online?
We just got back from the mountains and our day of tree cutting. It had warmed all the way up to 4. There wasn’t any wind and lots of sunshine so it was a beautiful day. We found beautiful trees and kept warm with wonderful hot chocolate and baileys Such a wonderful family tradition.
Now to have another cup of the hot chocolate and maybe a nap before putting up the tree.
FLOTUS looks lovely.
mission : enjoy the show
