Carlos Santana and fellow 2013 Kennedy Center Honors recipient Shirley MacLaine
Person (unidentified) at the Kennedy Center Honors reception at the White House
?, Herbie Hancock and Martina Arroyo
Loved the way PBO’s comments re Herby Hancock felt personal.
Actually found most of the comments informative since I do not follow music or movies or opera.
Tied with DF for the Bronze too. Yahooo.
Woot for Df! I like having company when I enter the village.
Congrats, vc:) You shed that turtle tag a tonight:)
Rested up a bit today, so I could have one run at the crown before calling it a night.
Are you okay? ;)
Yep, are you?
You bet!
:) You’re such a stinker, Chips…poor Billy Joel….
Such a face! I’m headed to b e d. Been a long day….thank you all for another amazing day at TOD:) Night, Chipster. Night to Danny, too…..sweet dreams.
Night DF, sleep well buddy!
Thanks, lovey! I’m really going now……. :) See you bright and early!
I’ll give her credit for not leaving him out, Df – you know a subtle cut that only showed his right side, then his left side. You know she easily could have. ;)
She COULD have photoshopped someone else in there:) Yes, I give her credit for not leaving him out:) Night sweetness…stay cozy!
So very nice to see the Kerrys with the Obamas, out relaxing together on a chilly evening in December, taking a break from “saving the world from itself.”
Gold and Silver Medlaist Our Very Own TODable VC ;)
I swear the guy in the balcony above FLOTUS, applauding and grinning, could be my cousin Thomas! He spends a lot of time at the Kennedy Center. I will ask him!
The guy looks like KISS band member Stanley to me ;)
I thought it looked like Alan Rickman…..my daughter laughed at me.
I thought it looked like Alan Rickman, too.
Well, it seems Thomas wears glasses, but anyway.
There is an Unidentified Person ;)
and another with a Question Mark?
Any explanations Lady Chips ;) :?:
TODable Community, we need a Town-hall meeting to get to the bottom of this Mystery.
GEEZ…we’re having snow, ice, rain, thunder and lightning all at the same time. Mother Nature is even angrier at Ted Cruz than I had initially thought!
That’s what happens when you LIE LIKE A RUG. Should be over HIS house…….ONLY!
LMAO! Df you are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad….. :) :) But I agree with you 100%.
All of that is Climate Change Nature, why, why ;)
MJ’s Human Nature ;)
Chips, when will you relent in your Billy Joel jihad?
In the meantime, tonight’s menu:
Blackened tilapia, poached in white wine
Sauteed mexican squash and onions, with garlic salt, cayenne pepper, and cumin
And a delightful white table wine.
There is a Fine Line between L O V E and not so much LOVE ;)
Just saying
It still hurts, huh Chipsticks? Leaving you for Christie. :) :) :) Here’s something to ease the pain – I KNOW he wrote it about you. Heee.
Chips they are trying to convert you into a Billybot. :) And it might be working!
I guarantee you are going to have hot sexy dreams about him tonite. Why you might ask? I’ll tell you why. Because your Catholic guilt (the guilt part never “lapses”) is going to get the best of you for leaving his name out of the post and therefore he will be on your mind when you go to bed. And then of course we all know you have a secret crush on him.
Forus, you have just ensured I will have the WORST nightmares EVER.
oooh shit, lmao.
Now that I have seen the Honorees and the 1st Couple.
Then it is Time to call it a night and wish You all a TODable night.
Love and Peace ;)
G’nite Nena. Sleep tite. Don’t let Ted Cruz bite!
Billy Joel looks like a slightly slimmer version of my cousin Art.
“Some folks like to get away
Take a holiday from the neighborhood
Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood
But I’m taking A greyhound on the Hudson River line
I’m in a New York State of Mind”
CHICA, we love you just the way you are!!!
LOLOLOLOL – What did Billy ever do to you? Or NOT do to you, as the case may be???
“What did Billy ever do to you?”
He sang Isonprize – a crime against humanity!!!
On the fourth photo down, it looks like the is a heart on the Presidents elbow. ;)
yup, he wears his heart on his sleeve. :) Good eye CarolMae!
You have a way with words.
Anybody know what’s behind the ” #nytguesses” on twitter? Did they guess Romney would win in 2012 or somethin’?
Google says it comes from here
There’s a very unusual, groundbreaking NYT story coming 2nite.I can’t say too much but it’ll make u rethink- well, I should stop.Stay tuned
From the way Carolyn Ryan announced it, it sounds rather non-gate worthy. I cannot imagine what she means my “great story”. She’s the political editor so I’m assuming it has something to do with politics. Hmmmm….
Ok, it's going up in the morning. And everyone wants me to stop asking about it. I'm going home to watch Homeland. It's great story though.— (@carolynryan) December 09, 2013
Thanks, 99ts and forus50 – Found this later one – probably the price of milk will be $10.00/gal. – Ha!
@ckaratnytsky @blakehounshell There's a political aspect I guess but mainly, I can't describe it, it makes you rethink the world u live in.— (@carolynryan) December 09, 2013
Ted Cruz is going to a funeral?
If he actually goes … well, how sickening. Another one with no core, eh?
There are some fun guesses
I'm sure the NSA already knows. #NYTguesses— Nina L. Diamond (@ninatypewriter) December 09, 2013
It’s about a homeless child living in Brooklyn.
I saw that – not convinced it is the report referenced – not really bothered either way – a political reporter trying to get people interested in a political report – when they all stop carrying water for the GOP might go back to reading.
The person who posted the “unedited” story seems to be an emoprog. I’m not even so sure what’s particularly groundbreaking about it.
I just saw another tweet that said that, too … posted below … (I’m way behind on the stories tonight!)
Who knows if this is true or not, about the story, but …
A New York Times editor brags about a story, and the Las Vegas Sun scoops it. gaw.kr/LJwqrUL— (@Gawker) December 09, 2013
I’m not even sure what the big deal about this story is. Homeless children living in shelters in NYC are nothing new. So they claim to have been following the child since 2102. Okay?…. And….? I may be missing something here…
Good points, as usual. Some of these people seem to have lived in caves and just pop up with stuff, every now and then, like they thought of it first. Unreal.
Indeed. So they just realized that 22K children in NYC are homeless. Just a couple months ago, we were discussing an article on TOD in which NYC Mayor Bloomberg said that the housing shortage is a good thing, and that homeless NYers were not in a hurry to move out of the shelters because the “spaces were nice.”
So how exactly is this NYT story “groundbreaking?”
Cannot wait until Bloomberg is out of there.
Heh. You and me both!
The joyful part is the guy that’s replacing him! Yeehaw!
whatever it is, please just let it not be any new beltway obsession about PBO or anyone in his team
LOL! I’m hoping the same as you Linda.
Exactly. The chatter is that it’s not, thank goodness.
That chap standing next to Michelle Obama has such a look on his face – I can hear him in his memoirs saying “I’m the man who accompanied Michelle Obama to the Kennedy Center”
I have to go and unwind. Bonne nuit, TODobots! Sweet dreams, or ‘Marvelous Monday’, everyone!
Here in Salem, Oregon we’ve had a brutal arctic freeze, uncharacteristic of moderate winters in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Today I heard the pipes in my church froze and flooded the basement causing an emergency clean up operation. I wasn’t there, but I did volunteer to work a soup kitchen at a Lutheran Church where the congregations of the city take turns on Sunday afternoons providing a soup and sandwich luncheon with personal hygiene supplies for the homeless and destitute. I took the opportunity to produce and make available a flyer to all the guests that invites them to sign up for coverage under the Oregon Health Plan, our state’s version of expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. It provides instructions for who to contact to set up an appt. to enroll including one agency that has contracted with Cover Oregon to do outreach and send volunteers to shelters and public places to enroll people. There were flyers at each table and I took a break from my dishwashing duties to check and make sure people were reading them and taking them home. Some had already enrolled, and others were grateful to find out they could enroll. So it was a good way to do the kind of outreach I am trying to do to those persons who have the most need, who have gone without basic medical care for too much of their life. They had a warm meal, today and the promise of health care coverage, but I hoped they had some other shelter to stay in when they left the dining hall to go out in this bitter cold. As I left for my home where a cozy gas fireplace waited for me there was a poor soul all bundled up with sleeping bag and covers sleeping on the cold concrete church steps in temps of the low twenties.
Bill, thank you for serving and working for the “invisible people”
Thanks Bill for updating us and for all the ACA – related work you are doing for the community! Please stay warm and be safe in this weather :)
Bill R – That left me breathless. I commend your good heart and all the moves you make to help others. The person sleeping on the church steps reminds me that “there but for the grace of God” goes each one of us.
Very impressed with your kindness, Bill, and the actions you take to help others. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the kind thoughts, friends. I appreciate your support.
My kinda guy. Bless you Brother.
Bill, you are a true hero, my friend! We need millions more like you. Thank you for your dedicated service to your community. Bless you.
One last word from me on the beautiful dress…….I’ve named the color FLOTUS green. It is her color, an original, certainly not a paint color from a chart…..it is just elegant.
As to the dress and the drapes around her arms……I like them. They change the dress from just another strapless gown to something unique, original…..and certainly got our attention. Also, notice all the beautiful tuck work on the dress.
Whenever I see someone in a strapless dress, I think about Kitty Carlyle…….I’m that old! who used to be on What’s My Line. She dressed elegantly, and this was in the fifties when strapless dresses were also popular. Someone asked her one time why she never wore a strapless dress…..she said that sitting behind that panel table, if she wore a strapless dress, she would look like she was sitting in a bathtub…..I think of that all the time……..
Whatever FLOTUS wears at an occasion like this, every other woman looks remarkably dowdy and somewhat passé.
Does anyone know the designer yet?
Well…..time for bed. Exams this coming week, must write one tomorrow.
Just so there’s no confusion what I think about this thug ….
@Netanyahu you display to the entire world how small a person you are & you dishonor Israel as well as the memory of #Madiba. cc @JohnKerry— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) December 09, 2013
Thank you, HZ.
That’s the bad part – who cares what Netanyahu the man thinks, but – in his position – he’s not helping his country’s standing in the world by how he acts on the various issues. What does that remind us of – oh, I don’t know, maybe 8 years of Dubya?
Yes and Yes.
He is a disaster; a major threat to a sustainable Jewish State. The comparison with GWB (& even more so, Cheney, are apt).
I try to forget Cheney even exists. Well, GWB, too.
hit the nail on the head, Jacqueline
Well, good evening, Barb! Keeping calm?
apparently there is snow falling in NYC
will be gone soon!
Bill R., thank you for all that you do to make a difference in the lives of so many people. Your comments always touch me deeply. You have a loving heart and blessings to you. I am so grateful that you are so dedicated in sharing your time and efforts in spreading the information about the ACA. ((((((((((((( Blessings to you, Bill R.))))))))))))HZ

Dec. 9 – would have been Rear Adm. Grace (“Amazing Grace”) Hopper’s 107th birthday – and, coincidentally, w/h/b/ my Mother’s 92nd (although my Mother refused to even sit at a computer!).

When I first started working with computers – 1960s – we kept hearing about Grace Hopper – she was compulsory reading :)
Back in 1988, our Navy organization agreed to invite her to speak at a Federal Women’s Program event … I was in charge of making the program and visit arrangements. Just after she and her staff agreed and started to work with me on the planning, I believe she broke her hip or was otherwise incapacitated, and had to cancel out her speech schedule going forward. I thought the engineers and scientists at the Navy organization were going to weep! Would have been such an honor to hear her.
