Wow, Alycee, that is a whole lot of organization and a lot of pieces needing coordination! I sure hope each piece works well and that there will be no incidents to mar any aspect of this tribute and burial.

The pictures from Robben Island and The House of Slaves were so painfully heartbreaking and reminded me to give thanks everyday for what so many suffered so that people with a darker skin tone could walk free.

Humanity can be so cruel sometimes and then there’s that glimmer of hope that makes you think, okay, we’ll stumble, we’ll fail, but ultimately, we’ll be alright.

A very poignant comment, UT. Thank you for expressing it.

Every time I see these images of President Obama as he stares out of a window (and this one is particularly moving because it’s the actual prison cell which “tried” to hold Nelson Mandela’s spirit), including those where he peers out of an Oval Office window at the White House, I think how he must yearn for the days when he could go outside without 50 pairs of eyes’ needing to have his back! Two distinct images, of course – but, nevertheless, it’s a loss of movement and freedom of a sort. I’m selfishly glad anyway that he’s “stuck” in the Oval Office for another three years. He can roam free after that! Says me!

Mark Jacobs, the TBGOPers’ senatorial candidate said that the way to talk to women is on an Emotional Level.
Okay, the education of a GOPer on best way to TALK to Women is going Mighty Real……the late singer Sylvester would sing?

I don’t trust the networks to broadcast this service. Here are a couple of links to agencies who say they’ll livestream it:

So I just finished reading the five part series in the NYT titled “Invisible Child” written by Andrea Elliott and all I can say is “Bravo!!!”. THIS is what writing is all about. THIS is how you get people to take notice of a problem. Oh my gosh, it is so well written but more than that, the girl that is profiled is absolutely charismatic, smart, intuitive, a bundle of energy and si well aware of her lot in life. You won’t be able to stop thinking about her and wishing you could help.

When I first read it I thought it ended very unsatisfying in that it had no “ending”. Then I realized I had just read Part I. There are also short outtake videos included in most of the Parts which I watched after I had finished reading it. It is a VERY long read – I think it took me several hours — but if you have the time, you won’t be disappointed.

One last thing for those of you who were on Twitter last night when someone was promoting its release. It isn’t anything like it was being promoted imho. Instead just read it as a well researched, well written human interest story that maybe will cause the city of New York and other cities to reexamine how they handle kids who are caught up in the crossfire of their parents mistakes. There are no easy fixes of course but I do see that there are clearly some changes necessary just on the basic food and shelter they receive.

Here are some more details about US media coverage of the Mandela memorial tomorrow. It appears that most of the networks will have some version of coverage from 4AM tomorrow, and there will be continuous livestreams on CBSnews.com and MSNBC.com. Someone had mentioned CSPAN but I’m not sure yet – will have to check and see.

    Hey TOD Fam!

The memorial service starts at 2am in my neck of the woods. I’ll start my caffeine injections around midnight! I am so tickled! I dug up an old Mandela T-shirt I got at a rally for him in Brooklyn in 1990. It still fits! I’l be wearing it while watching the memorial!

I’m only human – human female at that.
It’s cold and this visual is warming me up.

You can use either or both of those to excuse what I’m about to say…

When I look at the above picture of the President with his back turned to us….my eyes keep getting drawn to “those buns”

CNN has just announced a new show at 11:30 PM with Brooke Baldwin called ” ICYMI ” . It will recap their highlights of the day.

(30 minutes of Wolf Blitzer saying ” Happening Now ” ?)

    O/T – SoCal TOD’ers \

Apparently Clear Channel will no longer have Progressive Radio on KTLK….that means no more Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Bill Press, and the morning shows after Stephanie and after Randi. They plan to replace them with Rush Limpballs, Sean Hannity, and The Blazing idiot they took off Faux Noise. Randi is asking people to go to her facebook page and give a short comment how this will affect you.
