Hi there,Chips and the rest of us.

I wish the MSM in America could be trusted to transmit the entire program that will happen tomorrow but experience tells me that they cannot be trusted.
Maybe they will show the visuals but muffle the sound when our President speaks. Wouldn’t be the first time. Or pull in so tightly on POTUS that you think he is speaking in a closet.
I want to see and hear the crowd of 80+ thousand people as well as an accurate showing of PBO.

Live streaming from a neutral source, SouthAfrica TV for example, will probably be best.

Hiya Vicki, I fear you’re right. I’m just putting together a post with live streaming links for the memorial, I’ll schedule it to post automatically in case I doze off!

Hey ole girl VC, I heard/read your confession over on the other thread where you said you were just jerking our chains and that we could handle the ribbing – you got that right! And so let me tell you how warm and sunny it is outside right now. I just came back from lunch and put on my sandals – HA!

I read earlier that Cuban President Raul Castro will be speaking at the memorial too, not sure how accurate that is – but if he does, RWNJ heads will truly explode!

I missed a whole bunch of previous posts and interesting stuff, while painting a wall in my living room and doing a bit of Christmas decorating – but glad you enjoyed it, again! I loved it. Saw it on CNN today (meaning LP was days ahead in getting us our “news”!) and thought it was worth bringing over.

I have a very heartwarming story about the missus.

She’s been caring for this one lady for the past three days. As with much hospice, she’s dying, and needs round-the-clock nursing. The family is not rich; she, her husband, and her developmentally disabled son live in a rickety trailer, and it’s obvious that life has not been kind to them.

This morning as the missus was leaving their home, the husband asked if she would be back. She told him that she wasn’t scheduled for anyone at the moment. The nurse taking over for the missus asked the husband if he was wanting to request her. The husband said “Well, I don’t trust just anybody.” The missus got a call this afternoon to go back to the house for a midnight-8 shift. So there’s a pretty good chance that she’ll be a more or less permanent part of the care team for this lady until she passes on.

What pissed me off to no end when she was let go from her previous job was the idea that her former boss thought she was a lousy nurse. She may not have been the best administrator; but as a nurse she’s top notch. All of her patients have always adored her, and the families of those patients couldn’t say enough good things about her. And the fact that this family, which has next to nothing, want her to help the mother as she fades away is testament to that. She’s brought a measure of comfort to a family which lacked it.

    • December 9, 2013 at 4:32 pm

LL, That is a beautiful story and testament to your wife’s caring actions. She sounds like a wonderful person. God bless her.

Thank you LL that was a heartwarming story about your missus and says a lot about the her as well as the man who married her. It takes a very special person to care for someone who is dying. When my aunt was dying her hospice nurses were super but her kids were such jerks. It warmed my heart knowing that my aunt was getting great care and love from her hospice nurse. Bless the missus and you too.

Wonderful tribute to your wife, LL. She is appreciated by the most important people–those she cares for. And that’s all that matters.

DITTO to all the comments. The lead hospice nurse caring for my mother the last few weeks was simply wonderful. Blessings to your missus–and you, LL.

      LL,

As a hospice administrator, I love hearing stories like this. I know how hard hospice nurses work, as well as hospice aides, and always make it a point to let them know when they receive praise and love from our clients and family. Following you on TOD, it always makes me happy to hear how supportive you are of your missus.

Administrating in the health care industry can be tough because we’re so heavily regulated, but it pales in comparison to the work that the nurses and aides do. It takes a special person to do this work and she obviously is a special lady.

Thank you for sharing with us the news of your wife’s services to her patient in hospice being appreciated. It takes a special person to help our loved ones coping with illness in the final stages of life. Please thank her for all of us here.

My favorite in honor of Madiba. I hope to have it as part of my obit.

    Requiem

Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

    This be the verse you grave for me;
“Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.”

    Robert Louis Stevenson

Haven’t had a chance to read all of this, but wanted to share as soon as possible. It’s written by Dr. Peter Storey, a South African Methodist minister and is he memories of the Nelson Mandela he knew and loved. “The Mandela I knew became beloved by me, not so much for the grand gestures, but for the lesser known acts that revealed a true genuis…..the awareness that his life was inextricably bound up with the lives of all of his fellow human beings, especially his enemies. He was the great includer. Nothing was too much trouble if he could cajole or charm another opponent into frfiendship.” WHO DOES THAT REMIND US OF?? Looking forward to reading the entire piece.

I was thinking the security for the memorial service must have to be extraordinary, maybe requiring the most precautions in history—-all those world leaders gathered in the same place. I’m guessing they were aided by other countries, other entities, in this massive endeavor.

Just busy catching up….. Got my White House Christmas card today…It’s BEAUTIFUL! I save them all.

LL…wonderful story about the missus and her hospice family. The loss is theirs for not keeping her on. She does the work now that she was meant to do. It fills her heart and those she touches with her care and kindness.

What else did I miss today?

    • 94 carolyn
      December 9, 2013 at 6:23 pm

This year’s card is particularly enjoyable and creative. I was cleaning today, and came upon my stash of all the previous Obama Christmas cards…..was a joy to look at them. Have to say this one is my favorite.

LL…..your wife is obviously doing what she is meant to do! People love her and she loves them, and gives exceedingly good care. So happy to hear this. Taking care of dying people is a gift, and relatives appreciate this. Sounds like both of you are in your “meant to be” professions. Life is rich when we are.
