It’s an “active shooter” situation in Littleton Arapaho High School, Denver area. One shooting victim has been brought into a local hospital. Just basic facts now. Groups of students are being brought out of the school.

It should be clear to every single person with even a minimum amount of thinking skills that this continuous gun violence is the #1 issue of our time. It is just screaming at us. Do something! How many more school kids do we have to see filing out of a school because of a shooting? How many more news stories reporting shooting fatalities do we have to endure?—-one or two here, one or two there, one or two everywhere– sometimes 5, 6 or 7 at a time—daily—across the country. I wonder when we stop ignoring this, stop looking the other way, stop saying ‘don’t tell me’—–and unite and be determined to bring the much needed change to this out of control gun culture in this country.

Dotster, people who do recognize this don’t always realize that the way make it stop is to make themselves heard and vote. I have a Republican governor and a Republican congressman–two brick walls when it comes to gun control. I know that the way forward involves replacing them with people who don’t put the needs of the NRA first. That means working for candidates who actually care about people and voting them in. Our children are literally being held hostage and made to live in fear and danger because of political cowardice.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say a Kansas male accused of planning to detonate a car bomb at the Wichita airport has been arrested.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom stated the man was arrested Friday morning at Mid-Continent regional airport. He claimed the person prepared to push a car that he believed was comprehensive of explosives into a terminal at the airport.

Investigators say the male is an avionics technician who life in Wichita and performs at the airport.

Terry Lee Loewen, 58, was charged with one count each of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to damage property and attempting to provide support to terrorist group al-Qaida. Authorities said he was trying to support “al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.”

The materials inside the vehicle were “inert” and “at no time was the safety of travelers or members of the public placed in jeopardy,” U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Investigators said Loewen is an avionics technician who lives in Wichita and works at the airport. He had been under investigation for about six months, after he made online statements about wanting to commit “violent jihad” against the U.S. The statements were made in a conversation with an FBI employee unbeknownst to Loewen, Grissom said.

Jodi Kantor is a NY Time’s columnist discussing her “deep thoughts” on Twitter with David Gregory – another media journalist in a very high position. These are not ordinary friends sharing views in a coffee shop. They are professional journalists and what they write/tweet about carries “weight.”

They have access. Pres Obama has done 617 interviews in 2.10 yrs with TV, Cable, print, Websites, etc. GW did 212 in 8 and Clinton did 191 in 8yrs. They complain about photo access. Jay said that they are doing as past POTUS have done. Their beef is that Pete S has many avenues for the public to view photos from the WH. They want to be able to manipulate and interpret photos exclusively. Hence their head explosions on the so called “selfie” photos. The photos was taken by a photographer. The MSM went bat poop on that to embarrass, to be critical and to be able to wag their fingers at the POTUS, nothing more.

        • December 13, 2013 at 5:45 pm

This surely is another moment in our hearts and minds that will take a lot of effort from each of us to first focus on the parents of the students there at the school. Say a word of goodness for their space.
Second, we would ask for wisdom for each faculty member and administrator to move wisely to protect and get their students in a safe place.
We give thanks for the first responders who are there to answer the call to this awful situation. And we need to push Congress to stop taking away funding from those departments that need our fine first responders.

I just was so angry when I saw that the Senate will not take the vote on the Department of Homeland Security Sec., Jeh Johnson until Monday. Of course, there is someone taking care of business in that department, but we need the Sec. of Dept. of Homeland Security confirmed now.

We need to send in email, expose this Congress by going on tweeter and let the public know how long these important departments have been waiting to be confirmed; yet the senate wasted our tax-paying time to play games all day yesterday and night. This light has to be put on these foolish and obstructionists and hateful people of the president.

We the people have got to put our heads together and exposed this Congress. We have to do this. I pray daily for all of our teachers, staff, and administrations to be safe in their schools. I personally have a great niece who has a high level job in a high school in a state that is not near me, and I worry about her and her colleagues and her dear students every single day of my life. I know what it is to be in a school with thousands of students in situations like we just witnessed today in CO. The students are a nervous wreck, and the teachers have a lot of responsibility to make their students as safe as possible even if we have our own children way across town at another students. Your mind is on where you are at the moment where these tremendous acts are taking place at that very moment.

We must lean and lean hard on Congress. Flood their mail boxes with millions of letters, fax, calls, tweets. Bug the hell out of them. They will listen to us. We are the people. We can do this. This has to stop. I will stop now. I am just so upset now just as I know my TOD family is as well. We will help our POTUS and VPOTUS push Congress to get this done.

Excerpt from Jim’s link above; a continued good analysis -go read the whole thing.

The Budget Wars are over! Which side won?

Can you see how the win/lose frame keeps us tied to the surface, stuck in the storms and unable to discern the deeper currents?

One way to approach this problem is to engage both dimensions, both levels of the question:

      >>> The surface question is “Who won?” Most would say the President and the Democrats eked out a slight margin of victory, though many would disagree. Here’s Paul Krugman in today’s New York Times lamenting the failure to extend unemployment compensation. Here’s Andrew Stiles in this morning’s NRO with his article “Score One for Boehner”.
      >>> The deep currents question, as always, is “What’s really going on? What’s trying to emerge?” The answers at this level will not reveal themselves if you are committed to wearing a particular set of lenses, generally of a partisan nature.

So let me try to work on the deep current question – What’s emerging? What patterns can we see, if we clear the lenses of perception? Here’s what I think is happening at a deep currents level:

      >>> Budget cutting is over. Budgets are not going to go any lower than the August, 2011, Budget Control Act sequester levels. That’s the level we have just moved up from. In the BCA negotiations, Obama insisted that the sequester should affect Defense and Non-Defense equally, and that entitlements should not be touched. Obama knew GOP hawks would eventually cry “Uncle” due to the serious Defense cuts, especially in year two of the sequester, beginning in 2014. They did exactly that and the result is the Ryan-Murray deal, raising Defense and Non-Defense Discretionary $67 billion over the next two years. The BCA is probably the last budget cutting act we’ll see for a long time: it set the principle that Defense and Non-Defense must be treated equally, and GOP hawks will not allow further Defense cut backs.

Are you kidding me? This is how I responded to Senator Boxer, instead:

He’s been in office for five years now – when do they plan to start supporting him without having to be begged to do it? Some of them have already starting getting “ready for Hillary”, which is ridiculous – when they’re not ready for the current Democratic President who is there right now. I don’t think they understand what their jobs are.

 You and Symmetry conspired to steal a slice of that cake and then boldly seek to make us accessories after the fact! We-ell, I never!!!!! I clicked the link and the first thing I saw was the rest of the evidence. No thank you, PF58, I’m not getting my fingerprint, or teeth marks, anywhere near this. /smh/

Anyone see any updated ACA info from Sec Sebelius or others in charge of ACA lately? It’s been really quiet this week compared to last week when there were daily tweets about website usage. Her tweets lately are sharing people signing up and personal stories. https://twitter.com/Sebelius My perception is that most of the good news is still centered around the state exchanges.
